Simple Quilt - Double V Block using 2 1/2 inch STRIPS! 12th in our series to use leftover strips!

- Twelfth project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! This block uses just squares and rectangles to make an easy to piece 10" finished block! Make as many blocks as you need to get the size quilt you want! Make it super scrappy and use every color or just pick leftover 2 1/2 inch strips in two different colors to make a positive /negative effect!
I chose orange and black for one version for a high contrast quilt. The finished quilt is striking and will work all fall! The finished size is 50" x 70". The second sample in the video is a very scrappy Christmas version. The Christmas quilt measures 85" x 108" and included sashing, cornerstones, and a border.
Here is a link to our video series playlist featuring Projects using 2 1/2 inch strips:
• Projects using 2 1/2" ...
Stay to the end to see the finished quilts, fronts and backs.
There is also an update on the 2 1/2 inch scrap bucket situation!
I've challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some "future" project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I'll always have a scrap bucket of strips because I'm constantly adding to it but I want to get it down to just ONE bucket instead of three...make that seven after the "GREAT SORTING"! This series will last until I'm down to one bucket. Let's be honest, it will take at least 2 years to use up enough strips to make a difference! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps!
If you don't have leftover strips from other projects to make scrappy quilts, cut up fabrics in your stash into 2 1/2" strips to make the project. No stash of fabric? Head to your local quilt shop and buy a jelly roll or some very pretty fabric to cut into strips! Shop owners are more than happy to help you find the perfect fabric, don't be shy, ask for help if you need it!
Consider joining our Facebook group called "The Quilted Forest Friends". This is the only place you'll have access to exclusive free quilt patterns used in some of our other video projects. It's also lots of fun for members to share their project updates. Here's a link to the group:

I love these 2.5 inch strip videos! Keep 'em coming! And I also want to sincerely thank you for how quiet the videos are. No music, and the sewing machine noise is muted. I really appreciate that.
I agree! Greatly appreciate not having music in the background also!
Yes! They are calm and soothing because of it. I love that so much.
Yes! I watch them over and over. Just such a great format for a tutorial, relaxing and watchable.
I am 77 years old and I wait so impatiently every month for the next video in this series to be available. It’s almost embarrassing! Each one is wonderful but they somehow get better and better. Thank you for the work you put in to provide such increasingly excellent ideas to us! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! Happy Quilting!
I love that you used a mid-century pattern in such a modern way!
I think it’s cool that you share your quilt math with us. Those scrappy quilts ate up a lot of yardage!
I am thoroughly enjoying this series on 2 1/2 inch strips. Saving them on my Playlist.
Hi, Shelley! I just wanted to say that I always enjoy your construction videos! I’m also in awe of your productivity. Last year I made five quilts-two QOV’s, a HUGE queen sized scrappy Irish chain, a baby quilt and a very large twin. Pretty respectable. This year I’ve worked on a very large queen since January and it’s still not done. Oh, well. It’s a very challenging pattern and I have to say I’ve enjoyed the challenge. But I don’t anticipate catching up with you!! Thanks so much for these scrap videos. They’re just great.
Love these videos! I look forward to seeing the newest one each month. 😊
I look forward to this series every month! Thanks for the wonderful ideas and beautiful quilts! 😊
I am not a Christmas quilter, but I love your scrappy quilt! WOW! Love this pattern and the sashing did make a cool secondary design. Hope you have more videos coming-love these videos!❤

Love how these turned out with your design-as-you-go method. Making design decisions at the moment is the heart of quilting in my opinion.
Another wonderful block to use up strips, this winter when winter has arrived again . Thank you excellent time saving hints

Really enjoying this series and love these two quilts. Thank you
Wow! You're amazing. Thanks again.
I get excited every time I see you have posted. I love your videos. I am a recent quilter and am growing concerned as my scraps accumulate. Thank you for easy patterns and such calm encouragement. I went to university at Ames (not an Iowa gal) and have lived in BC, Canada for the last 37 years. I feel far from that time and place, but every time I hear your voice (accent, I know you don't think you have one, but you do).. You sound just like my college roomate from Rockwell, Iowa. :). Such warm memories.
Go Cyclones....another ISU alum. I agree with you about how great this channel is. I'm retired and don't accomplish near as much😂
Our son graduated from ISU. We're big fans.

Look like present under the tree (gift) and nice quilt
I really love this pattern. It would make a great QOV project!

I love your videos! You make everything look so easy. It makes me feel like I can do it! Thanks for all your hard work!

YES!!! I've been waiting VERY impatiently for the next video in this series!!
I love this block, thank you for finding it and your great video!!
Love, love your videos to use scraps!
Thank you for sharing
I’ve been waiting for this!!!!
This is great, I could do this as a leader and Enders projeck
I love it!
You inspire me
Love it💕
Do you have some design boards? To lay out the pieces, when you cut out a side project, or a main project, so you can work on sections and put them back in place, to keep organised. Put the whole project aside neatly etc. You could easily make a few with batting and fabric scraps, some cardboard or foamboard, cut to size, you can use different sizes depending on your block size, and store them in your bins to keep aside? Lori holt used a lot of them, nas a how to make them video.. They become free to re-use as you finish up quilt tops. Loving your ideas, all the best.
I always look forward to your videos. Im retired and can't keep up with you 🤓 scrappy is my favorite
Another great tutorial!
The quilts are amazing
Love love love the video!
Thanks for the ideas 😊
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you ❤🎉❤
I want that book! lol
We'll be getting them in stock soon. If you'd like to pre-order, just give us a call at 641-585-2438 and we'd be happy to help. We're open 10-5, central time, Monday through Friday and 10-4 on Saturday's. Tell whoever answers that Shelley said you could pre-order.
I agree about "seeing better" with the photo than in real life.
Que trabalho maravilhoso
Parabéns e obrigada por compartilhar
❤
I wonder if a jelly roll and a mini 2 charm packs would be enough
A jelly roll and 2 regular charm packs would get you quite a ways!
👋👋🥰🥰
😀
By chance do you have a one sheet pattern directions..for the 2.5 strip series?
Why does your Bernina machine rock back and forth when you sew? Is it just the table?
Your Christmas quilt is beautiful. The fall quilt is also beautiful; however, I like the colors in it best (because my old High School colors are orange, black and white). This is another great scrap fabric buster. It doesn't have to be made with a Holiday theme. However, I see four hearts in each block (which are the Vs).
❤
