Right there with you. My son had autism and my whole world revolved around him for 28 years. His presence filled so many places in my world~ son, life partner as I was divorced, best friend, soul mate. He truly was my whole world. He always came first. I lived my life FOR him. Losing him put me in such a tailspin. Identity crisis, no purpose, terrified to go or be alone, all on top of a shattered heart. 21/2 years out and I am still trying to find and accept the ‘new me’ this ‘new life’. I dont know how to live life for ME. Nor do I want to. I also dont want another relationship. I only want him back.
I am free to do whatever, go wherever I want but the huge dark shadow that hangs over my heart wont let me. Therapy til I die~ I guess.😞

This video really resonated with me since I helped care for my mother for many months while on hospice who passed away about 6 weeks ago. You are very helpful to so many people, Brooke. I look forward to reading your book. Take good care. ❤

I really needed to hear this , my son died in August 2022 at the age of 30 . He was an alcoholic but he died of fentanyl poisoning . I dealt with 10plus year of alcohol addiction but didn’t know of any drug use. He was doing well not drinking for 5 years , got married and had a son. Then his wife left him and I knew he would go down hill fast and after just 5 months he was dead . It’s all been so stressful for so many years the constant worry and I often feel a sense of relief and I feel completely ashamed of that . He had his issues but he was a really great guy , and I loved him so much and I miss him . But I feel awful mostly because his was so sad and didn’t have a chance to enjoy his life . But a part of me knows if he was still here he would still be struggling. Thanks again

My heart is with you. We lost my husband's oldest daughter at 36 after watching her slowly kill herself with alcohol for eighteen years. We can not be more invested in making their lives something worth living more than they are. ❤

I felt this after my grandpa died. My grandma died 9 months prior from heart surgery...went to sleep on the operating table and never woke up. After she died he went completely downhill. I truly beleive he died from a broken heart and when he passed we were happy for him.

I’m so sorry for all the loss you’ve suffered in your life. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. It has helped me to know others feel the same way I do and that there isn’t something wrong with me. I haven’t experienced the relief aspect of grieving as my husband was taken from me very suddenly and unexpectedly. It has been so difficult I still can’t believe he’s gone or how his death has impacted every single aspect of my life. One day at a time is how I try to move forward.

You are so welcome. I'm so sorry about your husband, and I know that's definitely a different situation than feeling relief -- I'm sure it opened up a whole ton of secondary losses for you to figure out. I'm sending you love and strength as you move forward (one day at a time!). ❤
