FREE fix for p0446/p0449 [Chevy Colorado/ GMC Canyon Fuel System Issues]

- Опубликовано: 21 окт 2021
- This video is relevant to all years of the first generation Colorado's, Canyon's and H3's but a couple parts are specific to the 04-05 Colorado and Canyons with the 2.8l and 3.5l motors. In 06 GM went to a return-less fuel system and did away with the external fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. All model years of the first generation Colorado and Canyons as well as the Hummer H3 have the purge valve solenoid and over time these can clog and fail causing a p0449 check engine light/MIL. Don't replace it if your fuse hasn't blown. Symptoms for the solenoid typically are from gas spilling out when you fill up. The valve is clogged and cant let the fuel vapor from the tank exit as you're filling up. Click the link below and you'll see just how expensive this fix can be and watch the video to fix it your self for free. With a few basic tools you can get your truck running very quickly.
Below you'll find links to the items used in this video. I get a small commission if you purchase these. This is at no cost to you. Every video I make a couple bucks but it's not about the money. I just want to make videos to help you guys fix and fix up your trucks.

Worked just like the video said it would. If you have to do your fuel pump this is only an additional five minutes of prevention. Works not only for off-road trucks, street trucks can benefit from this as well, especially if you live in dusty areas.
I love your video. I am going through the struggle now. I changed so many things just to get rid off the shaking. I am checking gas pressure things now.
Best video I’ve seen about this issue! Thanks pal!
Happy to help.
You're the man! And im not blowing smoke. Video was Thorough, informative yet concise and to the point. Fun to watch, great camera work. You have my sub and like! All things colorado start with this guy
Glad it was helpful!
I want to thank you for your videos, you have saved me so much money on repairs and parts and me doing it instead of taking it to the dealership, I bought a 2004 Chevy Colorado before the COVID 19 crap started for 4,000.00 with 110,000 miles 3.5l 2wd, extended cab. I never researched that it was the first Colorado after the S10, and that parts where really hard to find and if you did they was twice as high or more because of the first generation a lot of parts are discontinued, example the top latch lids latch, had to buy the whole lid ebay, small things. I am at nearly 199,800 miles now, electrical issues at first wipers, cruise control, running lights, headlights, something chewed wire under fuse box not the truck's fault airbag light stayed on since it was purchased, fixed broken wire in back extended cab door's both doors, light gone and my speakers actually work in the back now and that's a plus. I just finished the video and cleaned mine, my codes always been a P0496, research said EVAP selinoid valve I have replaced everything from the motor back to the canister still when it's sat and cold in the morning it would kick the code again but always seems it was cold outside, still runs normal no misfires nothing, I average 15 town 18 hwy gas mileage so I researched and think that's about all I would get anyway. Hoping the canister clean prevents it from happening again, if not what could it be, thank you in advance, I also put new pigtails in to.
Clean the canister vent solenoid and see if that helps.
Awesome very helpful thank you
أحسنت النشر وهذا فيديو توضيحي قد استفدت منه شكراً لك thank you
Very good video
Thanks. Works good. 👍👍👍
Good work
Thanks for this video! Just got this code on my 2015 canyon. Didnt know it had a filter back there.
This video is specific to the first generation trucks, but likely a similar solution can be found on the second gen trucks such as yours.
@@BadlandIndustries good to know before I dropped the tire.
WOW I wish I found this video before I replaced mine I would’ve saved $100
Great job, you made that look easy.
It's not all that dificult once you get the spare out of the way.
thanks.. i actually just started having this problem.. though it only seemed to happen at quiktrip.. so i wasn't sure what was going on
Just run through the basics but this is pretty common.
I clean my fixed my problem 👍
The Warrior Poet Society shirt is tough
Thank man
Heads up you can get a evap vent valve for a hummer h3 that is exact same part without hoses and canister for 20$ or so from acdelco
Just seen it in the description so disregard that comment. Thanks for the informative vid👍
Yes but I wanted to show you guys you don't need to replace it. just clean it
thanks! just finished cleaning those parts. lets see if the p0446 code goes away!
update: did not work
Oh my, I have a P0446 also. About to try it but this really is a downer. Noticed that my hose was cracked so I replaced it. But still have the same p0446. Can you update and let me know did you eventually fix your problem?
What ended up working?
@@gamer-thrones6757 I had to change the sensor on the top of the fuel tank
What app did you use for the OBD2? I got the one your recommended but not sure which app to use.
torque pro
I love the wheels, plz share what kind
stock z71 15s
Does this problem do anyting to the drivability of my truck or is it just a cold that you want to get rid of
Since it won't vent the fuel vapor properly you could get fuel to burp up the fill neck when fueling up.
Did you cut the metal dust shield around it to have easier access to the tab on the back of it ? Mine goes all the way up to the top of it
Nope just struggled like man lol
@BadlandIndustries okay was just wondering if looked like yours wasn’t as tall as the 07 looks like yours has a little more room to get at it than mine. Thank you for the reply
What years does this work one? I have the 0446 code on my 2016 Colorado. Wonder if this would fix the problem
This video is specifically for the first gen colorados but the concept is relatively universal.
What were some symptoms of this needing fixed beside the code?
Fuel coughing up when you top off
So…. Yeah….. my “pre-filter” completely fell apart when I cleaned it off. So I’m gonna make do with a similar style filter from the pet store, cut to shape of course 😂
Adapt and overcome! Cheaper than replacing the cannister.
I don't see the links for the parts you used in the video description
They're up now.
@@BadlandIndustries All those parts say they don't fit my '06 Canyon. Not sure why lol
@@AGPullen gotta love Amazon. If I went by what they said every time id never be able to link anything. Pretty sure the header studs last video were listed as a ford.
Hi I’m Rodney I have a Chevrolet Colorado 2006 6cyl I replaced the fuel pump when I check the fuse no light
Tell me what can I do., crank no gaz on the system please 🙏
You'll likely have to purge the fuel lines with your 06 not being a return style fuel lines.
This evap thing is driving me crazy i tried to clean the vent solenoid canister like you did no luck. Po449 Light was back instantly, so i just bought a new, still got the code replaced the purge valve up front everyone said it was the cause 🙃 no fix, fuse is good, 12volts at the rear plug harnesses to the canister with key on....what am i missing please help 😂
I'd check if you have a good ground.
@BadlandIndustries yea i did wire probe all night I'm at a lost I have no ground for sure, I replaced the harness connection a few inches back do to some abrasive feeling in the wires, an nothing changed sucks knowing it can seriously be anywhere from there all the way to the ecu pinout seriously over it unfortunately just sucks can't be easily fixed with a canister like 9-10 other people had to be a broken short in the whole harness.
@@Vortec.Z32 the ground points are few. Just trace them back and clean them. There's 2 really obvious ones on the inner fender in the engine bay. Idk what all they go to but they are common for causing issues.
@BadlandIndustries I was trying to find a diagram for it all do you have one I do have a factory 09 5.3l chevrolet colorado
@@Vortec.Z32 I don't but there's some out there you just need to search for them. Maybe on charm.li?
I think the whole canister is just in with a 10 mm bolt, might be easier to get that purge valve off once the canister is hanging down- but geez GM, what a stupid place to put it!
its pretty protected but unfortunately it's in a pretty dusty place
Off subject but my 2.8l only gets to the quarter mark warmed up, should it get higher?
Yes. Most complain about it being at 3/4. It's possible your thermostat has failed open.
Ah crap that was my fear
@@huggi3z08 it's pretty easy to get to. Pull the alternator and you'll have pretty good access. Hey it's a great time to flush your coolant.
I just did the timing chain and was debating on doing thermostat looks like it got me good 😆 it has brand new coolant lol
@@huggi3z08 unless you are getting a code or no heat I wouldn't worry about it
I wouldn't buy anything from Amazon. Great video though
You don't need to buy anything if you watched this video.
