    A good tip to avoid swelling is keep one of the sides of the foils open so that it can get oxygen. I’ve done hair 15 years I promise it really helps. Also putting a tiny bit of water in your mixture will avoid swelling if you ever run into that problem

    • @gabriellablazed6458

      Mixing it a little thicker also prevent bleeding and helps the hair stick better to foil. U can add water but in some cases it makes it too runny.

    I find doing vertical angled foils along the hairline is wayyy better less stripy. Great job. I’ve finally figured out how to do the back of my hear with a mirror. Just bring the hair forward instead of trying to put it on the back of your head

    Looks so good!! Wish someone would talk about wavy to curly girls with grays, covering them at roots and putting in hi-lights. I do this on my own but in sections at a time. I don’t have thick hair per se, it’s dense though. And I’m just now having the issue of the semi-permanent (Redken Seq gloss/creams and cover+ creams) not covering them, like at all. Any one that comes along and read this I’d greatly appreciate any input! Thx🥰🌸🦋🫶

    I have been doing my own hair for 16 years. Just never liked how it turned out each time I paid a hairdresser, so I am pretty much self taught. I was born blonde and it became a medium blonde as I was in my late teens, and of course more of a light to medium brown as I got even older. I started getting enough grey by the time I was 38 where highlights weren't "covering" well enough for me. So I started using a root color using 7NN with 20 volume. In the past 3 years I have bumped it up to 8NN and add about 1/4 th ash to help tone the the any brass. Then, every 2nd time I do my roots I do the baby lights. I'm wondering with the top and sides being all grey now, as I'm older if the level 8 is too light for grey roots? And should I be using half NN and half ash. I'm concerned too much ash may give a green cast. I never tone my highlights because I only take them to meet the previously highlighted as you did in this video. Overall I'm happy with my hair, it's just those 2 issues I started to think about. If I should have stayed with the 7NN and equal parts of ash. I know that's a loaded question. I love your hair. Your base color is much darker than mine, but I am very fair skinned and blue eyes. I just discovered your channel and love it!

  • @lourdeslayton332
    @lourdeslayton332 Год назад

    Hi there! I love your explanation. My color story...About 3 months ago I went to my stylist and got blonde highlights on my natural level 4 root. She ended up using about a 7 on my hair and did a toner. I really love the color. 6 weeks later I went in for a toner, it kind of altered the tone of my color, witch I did not like to much. About a week ago I went in to my salon to redo my highlights. She used about a 7 and half and 8 on some pieces and she did tone my hair. Witch I don't understand why? I'll be honest with you, I am not loving my highlights, they look rather blotchy, bleachy, patchy, very yellowish silvery. Was the end results because she didn't use a toner? She is willing to fix it. How should she go about fix it, but still leave some contrast? I was going for some warm golden highlights on my hair. Please advise....Thank you!!!

I've never toned before because I did not feel the need to but thought maybe it would give a temporary look. Thanks. You are a great instructor in your videos. I've tried your haircuts also. It can a bit. For example if the root is a little lighter and you have a darker toner it will darken the root.

      @@kristymaccone7045 Thanks for replying, Kristy. I did buy the honey blonde. I only left it on for 10 minutes as I was concerned it would darken my highlights. You mentioned adding Olaplex to the mixture to protect the hair. Is it a specific olaplex product for hair coloring? I have olaplex shampoo and conditioner but i dont think you mean that. Also, how much of this olaplex do you use? Thanks!
    Martha

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  2 года назад +1

      Hi Martha
      Yes I do like to mix Olaplex in the formulas I make. The product that I use is the Olaplex no.1 and no.2
      There is a small kit great for personal use called the Olaplex Traveling Stylist Kit. I think it’s like $65 but it will last you a very long time.
      You mix 1/4 of an ounce to your bleach or dye formulation and let it process on your hair to protect the hair strand and then when you rinse everything out you follow up with No.3 which is a bond perfector. You leave it on for a couple of minutes and then wash your hair as normal with the shampoo and conditioner.
      I hope this helps.

    Hi, great videos. Would you mind posting what exactly you used for your hair on your roots and highlights for both videos? What specific color, peroxide levels, etc,? I’m a level five who also gets highlights and always want them beige when they want to go REALLY warm. Also about 50% gray in front. I only want permanent products which I know you used some demi and temporary. I’m mainly looking for what you did and go from there for myself with their permanent colors. I hope that made sense? Thanks!

      I am currently using Schwarzkopf igora 5-0 mixed with 6-1 with volume 30 on my grey in the front. I only apply it to the grey.
      For the Highlights I used Schwarzkopf vario blonde bleach mixed with peroxide volume 30 ( I always add Olaplex as well).
      To tone my highlights I use the Schwarzkopf color gloss mousse in 9.5-1.

    I have a question , i went to hair dresser to get my hair colored and highlighted, he did some olive grey-ish blondy medium color and the highlights were two levels lighter , it was prefect , after two washes all the color was gone and all my hair got 3 levels lighter , i went to get it fixed , he dyed all my hair darker and told me with washes it will get lighter, and yes it did got lighter , but it wasn’t the same color , it got ugly kinda brownish gloden brass or something mixed with some greenish hue , and also the hightlights wasn’t two levels lighter , it barely half a level light now , my hair is very damaged now so i will not go to any hair salon and especially not to the same one, i was wondering if toning it would solve my issue , and if i can get my highlights to be as light as it was with toner or something, also he did heavey highlights all through the hair ,so its not just the end so i can maybe use lighter and darker toner , and i don’t know if the toner i must get is light as highlights or darker as the rest of hair , if u have recommendation i would be grateful

      Candy R Candy R hi, I’m so sorry you are having a bad experience. The good news is that it is fixable.
      So hopefully your hair will continue to lighten as you shampoo and as time goes by,
      I’m pretty sure he probably applied a temporary hair color on you. That is why it is fading.
      If you want to fix this safely without damaging your hair you could apply a semi or Demi permanent hair color similar to the color you have. I recommend this because these products usually don’t have ammonia and are gentle.
      Now if you want to maintain your highlights you might have to visit a salon so they can remove the last color that he applied. ( keep in mind that color removal is not the same as bleaching )
      The thing is that toners do not tend to lighten hair. They can only tone and deposit color into the hair.
      I hope this helps!

      Kristy Maccone do you think if I removed all my hair color (with the solution not bleach ) and applied some other color to all the hair , my highlights will come back ? Or maybe show more ? Or it’s gonna unite to the same level , like if I applied the demi permanent color

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  4 года назад +3

      Tayebeh Kakeshpour Hi, Thank you for watching. Toners are usually just to deposit some color on the highlights. So the answer is no, it won’t lift levels and make you look blonder. But, on virgin hair a toner can sometimes lift the natural level just a tiny bit, but nothing major.

    My problem is when I tone my blonde, it lightens my dark hair to a brassy color. I don’t know how to tone only the highlights & not get it on the rest of my hair.

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  3 года назад +9

      Hi
      That is a common problem. What causes the dark virgin hair to lighten is the toner itself. There are different kind of toners:
      Temporary ( usually in mousse or shampoo) this the kind you need and I prefer as well so the virgin hair does not lighten.
      Semi or Demi permanent- notice that these toners are always mixed with some kind of developer or peroxide. This is what is lightening your natural base.
      These Demi/semi permanent hair toners are great if your base is colored with hair dye and then you have highlights done. In this case the base will not lighten nor turn brassy. Because one hair dye can’t lighten another hair dye.
      I hope this helps.

      The issue is you need to use a lower volume developer. 6 volume if you have it or at Sally's the Wella activating lotion solution that is made specifically for their demi permanent line. It is a 5 or 6 developer. You don't need to lift the hair anymore. There is zero need to use a 20 volume or higher to tone. It defeats the purpose! Anything higher than a 10 will lift your hair. I like to stay under a 10, but unless you can get ahold of the Wella stuff you will have to order on eBay or Amazon. (do so at your own risk and discretion!) I am not a hair dresser but I have a STEM degree so I know my fair share of chemistry and I went to art school prior so I have done my own hair for a long time now. I honestly LOVE the Redkin Shades-EQ line to tone and you can get it on Ebay. Many, many cosmetologists use Redkin products. That or the Guy Tang products. If you know someone who has a cosmetology license they can get supplies at Cosmoprof for you. The Guy Tang line is sold there for license cosmetologists. :)

    • @RachelWrites
      @RachelWrites 3 года назад

      @@gamergirlmars Thanks so much for the info! Do you think 10 developer would work, or is that still too high?

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  3 года назад +1

      Hi Maren
      A 10 developer will lift the natural level a bit as well, especially when mixed with a Demi permanent or permanent hair color.
      Try to use a toner that does not have ammonia and does not need a developer 10 or higher. These will usually be temporary or semi permanent hair colors.

      Hi, you can leave the mousse on 5 - 20 minutes. If you are just retouching your regrowth you can apply it to the mid length and ends during the whole process. Just keep in mind the longer you leave it on you will receive a more intense tone. But it must be rinsed out and never left on, like a regular mousse.
