    You’re my favorite! Been watching you for a while now. You always give off such a positive vibe. Seem to be very beautiful & genuine person.
    I think this video will help me a lot! I’ve always been blonde, lifting the hair prior to coloring it seemed unnecessary. You explained it so now I understand what was happening to my color at the roots. I was always using ash/blue/violet colors so it’s so frustrating to end up brassy after a hand full of washes! Thank you! 😊

    I am totally comfortable doing this and have been retouching my own highlights since March, but what I haven’t found is a Demi gloss that even comes close to shades EQ for toner. What toning product available to the public do you recommend? The wella toners (that are really permanent color) blow my level 4-5 base up and turn it orange even when I use 10 volume.

Yep, Ellebangs. I don’t trust any other hairstylist on youtube with advice especially not for anything blonde hair. So I just wanted to leave a thanx for helping not just me but surely many other women all over the world not to walk around with sad looking brassy hair:) Because let’s be honest when the hair and skin are good, even the bag and the shoe doesn’t really matter that much. Yep, especially for us level 6-7ish blondes! It’s so hard to get gray coverage at that level that isn’t guaranteed to fade to an unflattering hue falling somewhere along the spectrum of the Lori-Vallow-Prison-Garb-Orange family of colors! Speaking of her, fun fact for y’all: Child-Murdering Cult Mom Lori is actually a hairstylist herself, originally from San Bernardino! Which is Reason #456 I find her 2000’s-era mahogany-underneath-blonde so curious!) 😂 In all seriousness though, I’m wondering if using a Demi-Permanent line known for at least a moderate amount of gray coverage (perhaps L’Oréal DIA Richesse or Redken SEQ cream?) is a better solution for tiding over those of us with less than 50% grays, who can no longer get away with just a head full of foils...thoughts??? I just feel like permanent color on my type of hair is always going to fade to an unflattering color, to the point that we need to figure out a way to address that warmth strategically, rather than always having to do corrective work once those between-the-foils sections inevitably fade to yuck. Wouldn’t refreshing the base with a Demi every 4-6 weeks ultimately be easier on the hair than using permanent and then having to correct the tone every time anyhow? Would love to hear any insight you might have Sylvia, since I know you specialize in blondes! 💛

      I call most 7-8’s the no color zone, for it lacks depth and light! I either mix 1/4 of a #6 and the rest 3/4 #7 20 vol. same is true with your reds, don’t ever put straight red color with 20 vol on the roots aka the heat zone . mix 1/4 red to 3/4 brown or blonde. That way you don’t end up with “Hot Roots”. Or you could use 10 vol with your 7’s and/or use Shades EQ Demi put cap over it and under the dryer for 20 then take cap off and let it sit for 20 more mins for gray coverage. It’s ok if the roots
      Are a bit darker, especially now!

      Do it as close as possible and the bleach will swell a bit. It will get a bit on the other but when it’s all down and together you won’t notice the small change. So long as you seeing doing one stright line and a huge glob your going to be fine.

      You & I must be going to the same lame hairdressers!! I've been to high-end salons down to Aveda beauty school with instructors overseeing the foils. The only time I actually had a successful foil (had bands that she fixed the next day) was after the second foil... BUT she bleached 45 minutes on top of highlights she's done the day b4 & all my 'money pieces' broke off over the next month. But I looked 'freakin awesome' for the next month... & then just 'awesome' into I had 8 months worth of roots. I was too scared to have it messed up again. But another hairdresser did! Level 8 ASH is my enemy! Makes my hair color look like dirty saw dust color.

      @@angelas.9717 I recently went to a salon who did an amazing job. In fact they don't even use purple shampoos because they lift hair so amazingly. I was blown away. In fact they recommend against using purple shampoos and just concentrate on getting the lift right. Then follow with the correct toner or toners then maybe gloss. I bring up the purple shampoos because all of us blondes are told to use it like it's the saving grace and it's not. It always leaves my hair looking metallic magenta or gray. I had a great experience and have been getting compliments non stop!

    Thank you so much for confirming what I am planning on doing as far as lifting my new roots! After I lifting the entire new growth, I have been applying lightest golden blonde (level 10) with a "No Red" color correction due to the amount of natural red tones in my hair. My natural color is a level 6 to 7 with approximately 30% grey. Currently I have an inch of new growth. I was wanting to ask how much new growth do you typically want before lightening your new growth? Any suggestions would be very helpful 🙂. Thank you again for such an awesome video! I look forward to seeing you in the salon soon!! Hopefully we will all be getting back to our lives but with precautions. 👝💄💋🛍. Not the creator, but I do my graying roots myself every 6 weeks with an eSalon kit. Sylvia is an affiliate for eSalon, I use her code.
      I guess it really depends on how fast your hair grows, on average hair grows about an half-inch per month. I like waiting a bit longer than that , it makes it easier to color my roots without touching my existing color.

    I've had issues with orange roots my whole life. The rest can be ok, but the roots have that orange hue under the color on my scalp and it's horrible. I've yet to find anyone that can help me really find a solution I can use. I use Wella 50 toner on it and haven't in awhile, cause the rest of my hair is ok, but a bit dark. But the new growth, ugh! It never matches the rest of my hair!! So last night I used 30 volume, cause it seems to me that 20 is not lifting it enough and only getting to orange. Well, I have the color, though it went darker than I wanted and that was a 5! Gonna try the wells T50 asap. I guess use 20 volume? I'm scared to use 30 again on my hair. I used to bleach it with 40 and powder when I did it blue, purple several years ago. Then I left it alone to grow back, for the most part, and put stuff like Artic Fox, etc. But I'm tired of my only option is going black. But I hate red/orange in my hair. I've actually been using a color spray to buy me time. But I gotta tone this hair!! This has been going on over 25 years. =(

    Hi Sylvia, you make amazing videos. Thank you so much for sharing your amazzzing info.
    What about gray hair? It is different than a natural or coloured hair colour.
    There are different levels of gray on a head. They are rarely ever all the same. The colour lighter on top and darker in the back of the head.
    The top can be dyed with a colour to a level 8 -9. So you are blonde.
    But the back - underneath can only be dyed to a level 7 RUST tone. Eek!! 🤯
    Would luv to know how lighten the back without bleach? Do not wish to use bleach.
    Perhaps with an accelerator that is not bleach? Scruples has one.
    How about a High lift blonde with 30 or 40 volume?
    Or, what about dying the whole head with a level 7 and 8 - 1/2 and 1/2 with an ASH Blonde? Could this result in a medium ash blonde all over evenly and cancelling out all red tones?
    Will toner and purple shampoo work properly on dyed hair?
    Would luv to have the answers to these questions. You are definetly one of the BEST with hair. 😊

    This may sound like a ridiculous question, but how do the ends end up being so light once the hair which was once at the root (which was tapped) grows out? Does that make sense? So if you do a root tap which is slightly darker, eventually it’s gonna grow out to the end. So how is it that the ends are still so blonde? Does the toner wash out eventually? I understand the whole concept of the highlights/baby light. I just don’t understand for the hair that’s left dark how that ends up being so light on the ends eventually. Can someone please explain that to me? Please? 😕

      I’m not a hair dresser...but when you highlight, you’re taking the color out of that hair permanently. Hair color or root tapping will color your hair, but eventually it will fade lighter because the hair underneath has been bleached. --that’s how I understand it anyways 😂

    • @wendy8561
      @wendy8561 4 года назад +1

      I also don't want to bleach, even only highlights. There's got to be solution for us, too. Who only want get rid of orange-ish tone on regrowth. I guess blue semipermanent colour diluted in conditioner... but for how long? 🤔

    This was a helpful video thank you! And I usually get Redkin 9V, what makes it different than the 9P - is it the pearly shade?

    • @carbonwildflower

      I think it has some ash in it and violet vs just violet

    • @sarabara29
      @sarabara29 4 года назад +7

      P= grey base + blue/violet
      Grey base= lighter shade of black, which is a (blue) base
      +
      blue/Violet= (blue) + (blue + red) =
      Blue + Blue + Blue + red (3 cools to one warm)
      9V= (Blue + red) (one cool to one warm)
      The extra blue in 9P can turn some blondes green depending on how much yellow there is. You can add in some 9V to your 9P to lessen this.

    How do I lighten dark hair with grey roots?? I want to look younger, not older. Lol. I'm 66 years old. I use the Loreal Preference #5 Medium Brown. But, it's too dark. How do I lighten my hair to a lighter brown or an ash brown?? Thank you!

    • @missidoleyes
      @missidoleyes 4 года назад +2

      Joan Gentile ,first 5 is too dark almost like black, even 6 is too dark. Use 7 or 8 for mid brown. Second do not use drugstore colors. Use wella or majirel. I use majirel cool shades 8.1 with %30 developer and it covers my greys, lifts my dark hair and looks mid brown. When I use 9.1 it does not cover my greys. Anything higher than level 8 will not cover your greys if your hair is resistant and thick. Also you need to use high developer in order to lift your dark hair color, %20 developer is not enough for me that is why i use %30 developer. I hope this helps

      @@missidoleyesThank you so much for your advice! I appreciate it!! It helps a lot! I'm going to try that. Maybe, I can finally get the right color and color my gray roots at the same time. 😊

      Joan Gentile you’re welcome. It took me a couple of years to finally find something that works for me, hope will work for you too. Remember to always start with high levels when coloring, because to darken hair is very easy but to lighten hair is always a struggle. Therefore, Start with coloring your hair with level 8, if you find the results lighter than you like, next time you color your hair add level 7,1 to level 8,1 , but do not add too much level 7 in one go, add gradually ( forexample mix something like 1/4 level 7.1 and 3/4 level 8.1 ) and see how it goes.

      @@missidoleyes You are so sweet, Missi!! Thank you so much for your advice! I appreciate it!! I'm trying to save money now because of the coronavirus. I don't want to go to a salon, unless I absolutely need to. I'm 66 years old. I also have asthma. My husband doesn't think that I should go to a salon, until sometime next year, if we ever get a vaccine. I told him we can't wait forever for vaccine that may never come. No one seems to know what's going on with a vaccine just yet. So, I need to be safe, than sorry. I have three beautiful grandchildren that I want to be around to spend time with. I’m getting this orange with 30 volume and bleach powder… !
    I really don’t want to go back to using 40 volume like I did in the old days when I did platinum white… But I can’t seem to get a level 10 with bleach and 30v. On naturally dark blonde level 6 hair! …should I be trying a different brand? It’s only coming out level six or seven orange so it can’t be toned yet, I need higher lift before toning. It is IceCream brand from Shoppers w blue bleach powder.

    Can anyone help me - I'm doing a semi-perm shadow root at home of level 7 after bleaching to level 8/9 on my natural level 3 roots, which works really nicely but wondering about maintenance... will the semi perm fade so I can then bleach my natural roots when they grow and start from scratch or do I need to slightly over lap bleach onto previous shadow root? Im not sure how much it will fade yet. Any advice greatly appreciated :) Thanks!

    I had my dark ashy blonde hair dyed (highlights plus dye) in a lighter shade a few days ago and ended up with brassy roots, and also a colour way lighter than what I had in mind. The hairdresser didn't want to put a toner on straight away, and told me to come back in a week if I am still unhappy. How do I explain this to him? He had proposed to put a few extra highlights to balance it out, but I am really looking for that natural darker ashy blonde transition. I am feeling like I just lost my hair so please any advice on what to ask for is welcome.
