I have this exact same layout. What would you do if you have 4 triangle steps on your way down into a tiny dining room that doesn’t have room for more stairs? I can’t make the stairs go out any further out downstairs and the walls need to stay where they are. The top of the stairs are also 4 inches away from the nearest doorway, so I can’t make more steps up there

Trying to make it so the head room of the downstairs is higher. So want to rebuild the stairs going up so there is head room gluing down the stairs going in the basement.

How would you deal with this if the pie stairs are at the top instead?

With 4 risers on the bottom floor I hope the owners are not 6' 3'' tall like me or they would be ducking coming off the bottom platform.

    He sounds really young.

I have definitely been doing this for a while, perfecting the art of stair building and residential construction.

I'm sorry but "pie stairs" are not dangerous and have been used for centuries and still are today. Usually they are used because lack of space (pie stairs usually come in 3's). Even in your presentation you show that changing them will require stairs to enter into the room which creates its own issues. If the space was there the builder would have used a landing just because it is easier and cheaper. If they are hardwood stairs you will have to have custom treads and risers made for pie stairs. Even if just plywood the carpet guy charges extra to do pie stairs.
As for coming down the short (tread) side of the staircase, that's why the railing would be on the opposite wall.

I think what you might be referring to is that pie stairs aren't dangerous to everyone, but might be to some and that's probably why there are building codes to make them more safe. I had a set of them in one of my houses and everyone living in it fell down the stairway at least once, so it's a building code I agree with.

We have pie stairs and all of us have fell down the stairs at least once (some of us multiple times). They can be dangerous (although I disagree with making it into a building code. If someone prefers pie stairs , who is the govt to tell that person whether they can or can’t have it).
