    I'm trying to wet vent a lavatory from a dry vent used by the shower and am not sure how long the vertical+ horizontal distances can be because the trap for the lavatory is above the floor. It's hard to locate examples online as most use the dry vent from the lavatory to vent the shower, but not the reverse. Is this possible? What are the maximum distances?

    SECTION 912 WET VENTING 912.1 Horizontal wet vent permitted. (2021 IPC CODE AND COMMENTARY) Note that fixtures connecting through a double-pattern fitting are considered to be independently connected to the horizontal wet vent. The individual fixture drains vented by a horizontal wet vent must enter the horizontal wet vent in the horizontal plane so that the connection is not below the trap weir of the connected fixture. Water closets, having integral traps that depend on self-siphoning, are exempt from this requirement. Other fixtures that are not vented by the horizontal wet vent (i.e., vented by a dry vent) can enter the horizontal wet vent horizontally, vertically or at any angle in between. Water closets, having integral traps that depend on self-siphoning, are exempt from this requirement. according to the 2023 IPC CODE and commentary. Water closets CAN enter a horizontal wet vent VERTICALLY because they depend on self siphonage AND they CAN but they dont HAVE to enter horizontally according to the information provided in this video However code in ur area may vary from code in my area, AKA take what I say with a grain of salt, especially if your state, province, etc uses UPC or any other plumbing code

  • @jwblount7802

    Heres something to ponder.... 912.1 Horizontal wet venting states every fixture must connect on the same level of the horizontal. In said section of the commentary the exception on the toilet. This is what it states.... "The individual fixtures vented by horizontal wet vent must enter the horizontal wet vent in the horizontal plane so that the connection is not below the trap weir of the connected fixture. Water closets, having integral traps that depend on self siphoning, are exempt from this requirement". With that being said saying a toilet draws air is not completely correct. A toilet pushes air when flushed that why a toilet does not need to be directly vented and limiting the distance for a toilet to vent is pointless... That would be section 909.1 Distance of trap from vent.

    • @jwblount7802
      @jwblount7802 2 месяца назад

      @@homebuildingandrepairs3122 The trap weir or crown weir is the part of the bottom of the p trap where the fluids start to leave the trap and travel down the line..... The case of the video you did this would be referring to the trap weir of the shower. Once it leaves that trap it enters the horizontal wet vent and that must be on the same plane.... For example if you traveled lets say 2 feet from the shower trap to the wet vent and you double 45 down to said vent then that would not be entering the horizontal wet vent at the same plane therefor the shower would need to be individually vented.

      @@homebuildingandrepairs3122 I do it everyday just like I described and it works like a champ. I do on average 50 -60 custom homes a year on average, I did 85 of them last year and plumbed everyone of them just like this..... What I have noticed with the IPC it is more on pipe sizing, increase the pipe size and the farther away from the vent the trap can be. But as for the toilet drawing air from the shower it does not. I did a log cabin house years ago and they want ZERO vents through the roof just AAV's. I told them at least 1 has to go out for relief. Nope not gonna happen.... Within 6 months of moving in the house locked won't flush of flushes very slowly and pushing on all of the shower traps. So I went back out there drilled about 12 or more 1/4" holes in the outside cleanout..... Been flushing and draining like a champ ever since.

  • @Grrrnthumb
    @Grrrnthumb 2 месяца назад

    The codes are specific that 1/4"/ft must be "in the direction of flow", which is impossible for a flat double wye, which would need 3 directions of flow. Normal fittings in horizontal applications are always in 2 directions of flow. For instance a long sweep 90 is 1/4"/ft downhill towards the drain, but ALSO 1/4"/ft uphill in a perpendicular direction. 2 different vectors. This is part of the reason waste easily crosses over the double wye & clogs when horizontal. They very frequently clog. It's bad plumbing.

    • @Grrrnthumb
      @Grrrnthumb 2 месяца назад

    @Grrrnthumb 2 месяца назад

    Last example with flat vent is clear violation which you have been explained & shown code sections but still advocate. You said you didn't understand the problem. The reason from the code's perspective is that downstream clogs back up and permanently clog or impair dry flat vents. If you don't agree with the code, I don't know if you should keep telling people to vent in a manner that would get them flagged at inspection

    What is the cost to span a distance 36' from one perimeter wall to the other? BTY I want to build with 2x6 studs so I should be able to build 24" on center. This would be for a small Desert home. I want a garage too. And that would be 24' wide and 36' deep (it will have a workshop / storage in the back of the garage. So just a continuation of the trusses all across the length of the home and garage? 36 + 24 = 60 feet, all of it 36' deep. And the last truss that's parallel to the perimeter wall, is that made of thicker wood at the rafters, so that there can be lookouts installed? anyway, at 60 feet that's 30 trusses. What is the cost of a truss spanning 36'? This is for a desert area home, in east San Diego County, CA. (I'd build a flat roof if the county would let me, but maybe that would be just as expensive in the long run?) I'd really like to know what is the cheapest, cheapest way to build a home. I figure 2X6 24" on center is the cheapest way to build and meet R values mandated in California. Anyone out there have any ideas for me? I was also thinking about a concrete block home, but that seems like it's just as much work in the long run.

    I have a concrete back porch that has a flat roof. Could I build a deck or balcony on top?

    Oh my god, you just made this make sense about not wanting liquid to run through the top of the pipes, because that’s for the air

    I see videos of venting through the roof because the pipe has to be vertical. Can we vent through the siding?

    I recently watched one of your videos called how are most tubs supported. I have a very small master bath that has a fiberglass garden tub that is surrounded by a ceramic or Subway tile base. Is there a way the Subway tile can be salvaged and the tub be demolishedin pieces, carried out to the dumpster what to do with the base of the floor, create a closet area with sliding barn door. Is this possible? Thank you.

      That's the most questions I've ever received in two sentences. I would suggest visiting our website to answer your questions.

    Thanks! Very helpful. If someone is under IPC (Colorado), could you use one of these layouts in a basement with an AAV (like at the sink) instead of connecting to a stack?

    Could you tell us, which city asks to use 1x4 as top plate? I think the total 1.5+.75=2.25" is not strong enough for roof truss

      Every job I worked on in southern California. Keep in mind that the jobsite engineer and your local building department or truss manufacture should be able to provide you with top plate sizes.

    Learning a lot from your recent hour long videos. Find it fascinating about the engineering behind structures. Just wondering, if you haven’t mentioned, the differences between stick frame and post frame structures.
