I've been trying to work out the size and shape of my kite steps - I have the same problem, too narrow at the inside to pass building regulations if we replace the stairs. This is such a simple way to picture it! Thank you. :-)
Thank you so much for sharing this ! After viewing this on the grid paper it made so much more sense to me! So for my problem my stair way with winder steps is already narrow. So this means I have to increase the landing which also means I have to remove part of a non bearing wall to create enough room for the landing. I think I should be able to do it. I wish I had you with me while I am trying to improve my staircase! It's all in the math and I have always made math more difficult than it needs to be.
Hello width is important not for fire reasons. It should have sufficient space for people crossing each other. But you prestn is very good and brilliant.
Yup. Won`t work. Specifically, there will be height lost for each step that is taken out. Will not make it to the top height without enough steps somewhere.
This whole video is a complete waste of time you walk up the middle of a staircase anyway so why would you change the staircase the cost would ridiculous

You are so welcome!

i would just make a square step (7 x7 on your 2nd drawing),and do away with all the angles; do you see any problem with that?

Wow..super..u have cleared my doubt..

Because code requires a consistent tread depth on the "walk line" and code defines the walk line as 12" from the inside arc of the stairwell.
