- The AutoEdit 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI 4x4 gets a complete suspension Upgrade with an Icon Vehicle Dynamics Stage 5 shock and spring kit, a set of Unbreakable RCV Performance Products Ultimate IFS CV Front Axles and the entire pallet of Mevotech X Factor components.
In this video, I tear every bit of suspension off the truck and start over!
There's a lot going on here so hunker in with me and you'll see how this total transformation can make a high performance adventure machine out of this somewhat worn out truck.
The big improvements start with the Icon Vehicle Dynamics Stage 5 Complete Suspension System for the 4WD Dodge. Here's a link to the web page for all the details: iconvehicledynamics.com/produ...
Next we eliminate the weakest link of the IFS suspension system by installing a set of RCV Performance Products Ultimate IFS CV Front Axles. These things are the strongest axles on the planet and have a lifetime warranty up to 42" tires! Here's a link to the web page for these axles: www.rcvperformance.com/axlese...
Last but not least, I wen to my favorite auto accessory website
JCWhitney.com and ordered all of the Mevotech upgraded X Factor suspension bits for the Dodge. What I like about the X Factor parts is that they offer bolt in ease and upgraded performance over OEM parts! www.jcwhitney.com/details/Dod...
Plus, the truck will feel better than new with all the bushings freshened up.
I've been asked a few times about the wheel and tire setup on the truck and those are TR Beadlock 17x9 wheels and I LOVE THEM! Here's a link: secure.trbeadlocks.com/17x8-12...
The tires are Falken Wildpeak MT 37x12.5 r17 and are the perfect tire for this truck. Quite like an all season tire yet aggressive off road and great looking.

This is exactly the way of thinking and motivation I needed! I have a tired '06 Ram 1500 that I've been wanting to trade in, but the price of new trucks is beyond ridiculous!! I think I'll look into doing something like this. Thanks for the informative video!
Even if you just pick out a few of the Mevotech suspension bits ... it's an actual upgrade over stock stuff and you will notice the difference.. then find some good shocks and BOOM !!!
I recently got a 2020 1500 Classic tradesman, which is no different from what you got maybe the transmission and MDS which is not that much cool. Well anyways, my bumber the front one, came out a bit crooked from factory, and ive been learning many of these new trucks even from Toyota, come out defective and they dont do much about it. So yeah, just keep what you have, work on it make it look great!!
Love the fact that you took the time to clean your undercarriage and gave it a fresh new coat of paint.
you instantly had me looking at Icon Suspension Systems!
They were literally my first choice for this project! I have been thrilled with them so far.
If its good enough for Jason Its good enough for me, After watching many of these autoedit videos I'm ordering parts for my vehicle. i.e. Adding some Powerstop Brakes once they arrive at my house from JCW.
That frame looked so good painted really made the parts stand out.
Thank you for noticing... it was a lot of work...LOL!
Great stuff Jason as always you spend time explaining what you are doing how to do it and why you're doing it.
Thanks for sharing and keep em coming
Thank you for taking a moment to offer feedback and support... it is greatly appreciated!!!
Great video! Love seeing a keeper upgraded and warmed up a bit. Makes me feel better about keeping my ‘14 and continuing to upgrade. Big fan.
Thanks!!! These are really great trucks... keeper leverl 100!
Almost 10 yrs old and that truck frame still looks brand new. Over here on the east coast, that thing would be eaten by the salt.
True... this truck did live in Michigan for a few years but I've been able to catch up on that damage. It's rough out there!
AutoEdits tell me about it, I live in Minnesota and the salty roads in the winter cause pretty much any daily driver to start rusting on the body after 7 or 8 years. When I went down to California in February I was jealous seeing 20+ year old vehicles without a spec of body rust on em.
Northern East Coast, the south doesn't use Salt.
lmao try Canada man... wish i didnt deal with salts and shit here
@@mackeal17 I always undercoat my truck and it doesn't look bad
I've deemed you my #2 only because my Jimmy is my #1, my hemi is my #2 well that makes you my #3 and #1 on my list of favorite how to Dodge Ram videos...thank you
Great video and some excellent improvements on the Dodge. Well done!
Scott
Stumbled upon your video with the Jasper install, leading to this video. I'm on Active Duty in Afghanistan. I'm happy with how excited you were with the install of the knew suspension for the truck. Us guys really love our machines...and new parts are what makes us happy. Anyway great video..and from your other video with the Jasper install,... gave me some confidence for when I purchase my rebuild from jasper for my current car. Subscribed...will check out more of your vids. CARRY ON! HOOAH!
Awesome to hear from you and Welcome to the channel... Howdy! Yes, some of us dudes love wrenching on our junk... lol Interesting to hear you may have a Jasper engine swap project when you get back as well... I'd love to hear how that goes for ya! There are a couple more cool upgrade vids on the truck coming up so I hope you like them! Thanks so much for your service and saying hey!
112 degrees and made us a great video. Why I get excited when my man post a video
Ha! You know it! Thanks so much!
I feel really proud to know I've done this type of upgrade on my Dodge. U don't know what u can do until u try and overcome - AND I CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN TO MY NEW TRUCK
Jason, I always appreciate your organization and attention to detail.
Thanks!
I wish it was that easy to do on an older truck in the Midwest, years of salt and corrosion rot these out and are so much more difficult to get apart. Great video as usual!
Right ? lol . That upper control arm bushing came off a little too easily, as well as the lower strut bolt
Love these videos and so glad to see the Ram back under the knife!
Yes!!!
I Love that feeling of all new suspension components!!
Why is it the Dodge or Ram is just so cool and mystic. That truck is just so cool with so much character. A man and his truck, and his dogs = bad ass fun, especially with rebuilding something cool. great video. Those dogs are such a great touch
I like your way of thinking. I tell people all the time that tell me I need a new truck.
Even if I have to replace the engine, transmission an rebuild my suspension system with all new bushings an parts it's still will be cheaper then buying a $50,000 truck.
Yep, plus... like in this truck... I have a lot of good history with it and want to keep it around for a while!
autoedit
That's where I'm at. Alot of people i know don't understand this mindset. One of my customers just sent his old Jeep Cherokee to the junkyard because it wouldn't pass smog. Tried to explain to him that the old 4.0 was easily rebuild able but he listened to his brother who is a car salesman an told him some BS that blew my mind to convince him to buy a new ram.
Told him that a rebuild would be throwing money dowb the drain on a 25 year old Jeep with 500,000 miles on it.
Unfortunately he isn't a major car enthusiast so he thinks in part thanks to his brother that Kelly blue book is the end all in what is or isnt worth anything.
That 50k truck tho is 10 times better than the old one. We are talking new seats, lights, body panels, interior every thing new.
Im more of buying new salvage cars( less 10,000miles) and rebuilding it then selling. Th at 15 year old car even with new engine and suspension is not as good as new one.
mohammed ali shaaeli
I don't think they are that much better. Aside from more advanced infotainment systems there aren't that much different. I have seen the chassis of a 2018 F150 an it's not that much different from my 2006 aside from where the chassis is fluted for weight savings. Engine wise the 5.0 is just a slightly improved Ford modular motor in my 06 an the 3.5 ecoboost is good but problematic once it gets miles.
I will say the new transmissions are hand over fist better.
i wouldn't say "10 times better" my 2003 ford expidiotion's seats still work fine, body panels are rust free, lights are a little old and the interior is well taken care of, its only worth $3000 (new was $60k so ford gave it some 2003 love) but tows my jeep and is fun to drive, if i had the money to rebuild the suspension the same way as autoedit it would be a $50k truck to me minus the heated seats and touchscreen radio that you can get on amazon that comes with everything anyway. A fair estimate would be only 2 times better.
jason's vids are given an automatic thumbs up bc i already know its gonna be great!
I didn't even get to the end of you comment before I hearted it and thumbs up'd it!!! Thanks so much!
Jason, great video, best narrative of any auto/truck parts install and upgrade anywhere. thank you
Wow, thanks!
I have an 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 sport. I wish I can do all of this. Great job, your truck is a BEAST
You're a freakin beast man. Love the videos. Glad you touched on affordable LCA options for the Ram 1500
Thanks! Yes these Mevotech arms are really amazing... here's a "Pro Tip" I put all those things in my JCWhitney shopping cart for a while and when they had a sale on Instagram... hit purchase and scored!!!!
I don't understand why you don't have a million subs. You make very great content.
I would definitely like more subs but I'm pretty happy that many of the one's I have now are as awesome as you! Thanks for the support!
I’m amazed at the difference after you painted it. Great job, keep up the great work
Thanks 👍
Painting was such a nice touch. I'm inspired. Been looking at used trucks lately and really glad I am over brand new. I'd actually be able to afford working on them!
Glad you appreciate that about this. What I recommend is to at least check out refreshing the regular suspension pieces with the Mevotech stuff... made a huge difference!
I did this on my truck but with Fox shocks and it is 1000x better!!
Yeah buddy!!! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼 Hands down, you've got one of the best custom built rams out there now Jason!!! Awesome video as always! Cheers!!!
Yeah buddy right back atcha!!! I do like this truck a bunch and can't wait to share a few more road trip adventures in it.
Dude I give you kudos !!! it takes a lot of know how and chutzpah to take on a job that big and complicated, it was the one thing I was most afraid of screwing up, so I had someone else do it for me.the exhaust, and the suspension, were the only two things I didn't do myself on my truck.wish I had you around!!………..GREAT JOB!! :)
Thanks! I'm lucky to have the space to work on it and just keep chipping away at it!
I have a 2021 Ram Warlock 1500 classic so your videos are very helpful to me and gives my ideas of what I wanna do to mine. Thank you! Great videos
Good luck!
Jason, I also live in Cali... I have a shop fan like yours but I zip tied a 7 nozzle mister kit on the front grill, makes all the difference in the world.
That is a fantastic idea!
Great video.
I used this as a guide for how to restore my own 2012 Ram 1500 Laramie Limited.
I had a lot more rust to deal with from nearly a decade of long Alberta and Manitoba winters, with all of the associated road salt corrosion.
But I couldnt agree more about loving older trucks, and the end state is awesome.
FYI - The tab on the lower control arm (in video @ 15:30) is an anchor for fastening a steel wire retainer that is used to manage factory routing of the parking brake line. This is only used on the driver side (at least on my vehicle) as the passenger side then routes across the rear axle itself.
Glad to hear and thanks for the tip.
Awesome, this is the kind of stuff I wanna do to my truck, get my wear out of it, and then just go for a refresh as stuff wears out, like what you're doing here.
They are great trucks!
Should've made a video on how to scrub down the frame and stuff and then paint it!
I keep meaning to do that on the Jeep because it needs a refresh as well... maybe soon.
Jason its been too long lol love your vids
I'll try to post more frequently... it gets tough sometimes.
I've seen many videos of the 1500 and 2500 RAM and the truth is I love that trucks
I've been watching this video for a few years now and using this as inspiration for my 2010 ram. I'm still working on it but I'm getting it done thanks for the video.
Glad I could help! Keep going best as you can!
I just bought a carli commuter leveling kit, the mevotech ttx lower control arms, mevotech ttx tie rods end and core 4x4 uca's, and core 4x4 rear control arm kit with their track bar. I just got all of this the other day and I can't wait to install them all.@@AutoEdits
Cool, I just got a 2006 Ram 1500 4.7 (still great), and I just ruined my drivers side strut with my rough off road driving haha. Getting those replaced right now, tight budget but hey, I will keep these upgrades in mind.
Remember, even ordering just a few of the Mevotech bits and pieces will make a big difference and they are not expensive!
EJason What a machine?! By Jeremy Clarkson It’s a pleasure to watch your videos.
I really appreciate hearing this... thanks so much!!!
awesome video all around. Great shots on the suspension working! I'll keep this in mind when I upgrade
Thanks so much!
Great video, I’ve been waiting for commentary on this set up. Thinking of doing it for my 2011
Thanks! The point I really wanted to get across in this video is that any of things I did are great to do by themselves... I just went crazy and did them all. These half ton Rams are really great trucks and worth upgrading to make them even better!
Next mod..... a full respray on the truck? Maybe a desert sand or obd green in line x..... INDESTRUCTIBLE!
I never even thought about the desert sand LineX idea... I like!
That truck would look awesome desert sand with all the black parts
you spent some serious $$$$$ on this rebuild! Looks great though.
Mr Goodness Rides Again, Gr8 build Jason !
Thanks!!!!
Great job man. I had a 2004 Ram 1500 I completely rebuild everything on. Twinning STS Turbos was the biggest expense. I didn't lift it. Just a leveling kit and more beefy parts to keep it simple. It got totalled in 2010. The frame was bent pretty bad. 3 trucks later I finally got another one Im happy w/. A 2015 Ram 1500 4x4 Quad cab.( Love My Dodge ) As long as I don't get side swipted again ill be doin lots of rebuild.
CUTE IFS. LOL. LOVE DODGE/RAM
Yes, Ram is good!
I know you well enough now... was waiting on the clean and paint part lol
You got me!
دتةب٨ل٦٥٤
Always impressed with content and quality. Another great video!
Thanks!
Oh man! Nice video! Makes me want to work on my Dodge Durango. Absolutely loved it. Keep up the awesome videos man!
Do it! Just get out and do something to it. LED lights or something easy is still rewarding!
Did it man! Replaced my rear shocks on my dodge durango over the weekend! Learned a lot.
I need to upgrade my suspension on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4. my city streets are terrible, you'd think I was driving on the moon with all the craters
You'd be surprised at how doing few of the Mevotech parts will make a huge difference... and some shocks of course.
18:50 lol you passed my house !
Jason thank you so much for taking the time to explain. I have a 4th gen 4runner and I'm actually on the same process of upgrading my suspension. Even though I don't have a Dodge Ram I still some how get inspiration from your videos. Just to give you an example on your last video you used loctile on your bolts , CRC brake cleaner and now semi gloss paint. I can tell you care about the little details. My Mechanic don't even do half of what you do. Hows that saying, If you want things right do it your self. Awesome video bud....
Thanks so much for this... glad to hear !!!
Amazing this helps a lot...I upgraded to long travel kit this could’ve helped but I learned as I went.....stay hydrated
Wow, you did a long travel on your truck? How do you like it?
autoedit Mid travel I’d say....from dirt king all bolt on just like yours here....did you order the axels from jcwhitney?
Man truck looks great. You need to make a video on how you got that frame so clean and fresh. Also a quick question what are the arms you use for your GoPro?
Hey, just posted a chassis detail vid... check out my how to shoot video for an entire list of my camera equipment!
autoedit oh yeah forgot about your camera tutorial video. Awesome I’ll check out that detail video now thanks
Now that you've had some time on them, how do you like the Icon suspension parts? I'm looking to get a Stage 2 (no reservoirs) on a 2017 RAM 1500 4wd and am worried the valving may feel harsh. I will be driving a lot in Death Valley in the winter and the Eastern Sierras in the summer. Love your videos, lots of good (inspiring) info!
I have very good feedback for you... the fronts are the same for our kits and they are the stand out highlight of the install. So I would recommend it just for that alone and then the rear with these adjusters are pretty great as well. I actually use the knobs at soft for around town and bump them to 4 for hot dogging and it's perfect. I was worried at first but the truck rides better than I imagined so 2 thumbs way up... legit! Thanks for asking and good luck... I might see you out there since Death Valley is where I go most as well.
This video is LEGIT. Very well done.
Hey thanks a bunch!
I love how organized you are!
HA! I try
autoedit at least you give us the illusion you are organized. That’s what my boss says at work anyways lol
Awesome to see you so stoked about these mods! Does this mean there's gonna be a Miller 2.0 for the Ram?
I am genuinely excited about this truck being fixed up and HECK YES... I am gonna get that Miller Jeep Trail eventually!
Outstanding! It's not too hard, but it is slow going. It would take all day to go up, eat, and go back down for the clubs I went with.
I wish I could give it 5 thumbs up great video, and did I see you in a Kia Commercial recently?
Why yes you did. Thanks so much for the support and watching this stuff!!!
Man knows his stuff. Great vid
Would this set up be compatible with my 6” BDS suspension or are they designed to only replace stock components from a stock height RAM 1500? I’m thinking it’s a no brainer since lift kits utilize some stock components already and I’ll just be replacing them with heavy duty parts but aftermarket parts Can be a little quirky so thought I’d ask anyway 🤔
you could just contact and icon and ask
"Ain't nobody got time for that" lol
Those camera shots are dope af. I like to see how everything works. I just upgraded my shocks now for the cv axels.
Thanks!
6:19 "These older trucks are good!" Meanwhile im sitting on a 20 year old 2nd gen. =b
Same here still a great truck 😂
Same here. I just rebuilt my front tie bars and steering box. My 98 still runs great.
What exhaust is on this truck sounds great
Flowmaster Outlaw... it's awesome!
Love the way this hemi sounds....👍👍👍👍
Very nice job man i loved how your truck looks!
Thanks a bunch!!!
California’s been in a heat wave since 2003 ...
I read every single comment, and you wowed me with all your dedication to returning thanks to everyone. That is very kind and humble of you, shows great character. You have a great camera presence. In the video I thought you were one of those professional TV hosts working on his 4x4.
I just bought my first, and newest vehicle ever 2 months ago, (2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4). I live in Iowa and bought it in Kansas City. My work has me in Houston TX and when I go home for 2 days every 2 weeks I stay in that drivers seat probably 10-15 hours those 2 days. I absolutely love driving it. Some day I will do the suspension like yours and level it with some 35's I'm thinking. For now I'm just going to get that spray "Fluid Film" and soak the undercarriage so the rust don't get it after winter. Hopefully next summer I'll be able to start building it for a little more piece of mind off road/pavement handling abilities.
Anyways super great video and please keep this truck and making videos of it so I have something to reflect on in the future, mine isn't going anywhere anytime soon. There's not a whole lot to choose from for 09/10 Dodge Ram 1500 on RUclips. You earned my sub. 👍🐏
Howdy and Welcome! Thanks so much for such an in depth comment. I really do agree that these are just great driving trucks and your plan to set it up on 35's is solid. I intend to hang on to this thing for a while and have some really fun road trips planned for later this year.
Awesome video and really cool upgrades! With all the upgrades to the truck you better hold on to it for a while.
I plan on it! Thanks for watching!
Dude u almost are at 100k followers I think I started following you when u had like 5-10k....awesome video
Thanks so much for sticking around and the support!!! I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!
What a beautiful truck Congrats Man!
Thanks! I really like this thing.
Nice work done there. I also replaced my cars suspension system like you did. Saves so much money and hassle. 🙏
Great job showing and telling, and yes that looks great, wish me luck I am putting in axles in my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 yes good trucks fun to drive in these Tennessee hill . Thanks again for showing telling and great job painting looks like new see ya next time see ya bye.
I've been waiting for this video!!
HA! Thanks!
That was an AWESOME VIDEO! YOur cleanliness and order were fantastic! You really show me that I got a lot more to learn! I got a 05 Dodge Ram that I want to "Bit by Bit" go through an upgrade, and you got great parts and suspension work! Thanks for posting this video! You are totally awesome and your truck...if she was a girl....would be a complete knockout! Mewow!
Awesome! Thank you!
THAT TRUCK IS SO BAD ASS!! Just bought my first Dodge and I cannot believe that way it feels with 150K on it.
Enjoy that truck!
Great video, love the components!
Man! What an inspiration! I remember reading about that truck in one of the mags. Badass truck. Here I've been considering selling my '15 Ram w/ 64k miles to buy a new Tundra so that I can run a F locker. Never heard of Mevotech before. I will check them out. I want to do an IVD stage 4 on mine. Thanks!
The front coil overs from IVD are a real highlight for me!
This truck is beautiful and beautifully built. 😍
Glad you like it!
Awesome RAM with an even better video 👍
Thanks! 👍
As always a great video. Good thing you did all the work, as labor costs would have certainly been pricey, on top of all those high end parts. Enjoy, and happy trails!
I actually enjoy doing the labor. That way I have a better idea of how things work and how they are installed. Thanks a ton for watching and yes, I'm a very fortunate dude!
Couple things son .......
I love your video quality ....
I love your truck ....
And you’re a smooth talker ....
Thanks for the video bud !
Thanks 👍
Another great one Jason👍
HA! Thanks a bunch dude!
Another great video! Thanks Jason
Thank you!
Just found your channel, great vid! Make that install look easy!
Thanks! Honestly, the hardest part was the cleanup of the under bits.
Dude you made that look way too easy! Great job.
Thanks... It was kind of easy... just A LOT of work!
@@AutoEdits watching vids like that make me think I can do it too. Then I take everything apart, it gets late I go to bed. Then the next day I can't remember how everything goes back together! Lol.
dude great vid and ended with a nice test run.
This video was the inspiration for me doing the suspension upgrades on my 2012 RAM Sport. The only thing I didn't change were the front LCAs and both sway bars. 👍
Awesome to hear! Congrats!
One day I’ll have more of the “goodness” like you have. My stock components did make it 187k miles :)
Mate that truck sounds really good..👍
Thanks 👍
I miss your videos , been waiting , nice video buddy
Thanks so much for the support! I'm going to really be putting some effort into the channel over the next couple of months and hope you like the content!
Subbed. I love your channel! My 2012 Ram 1500 crew'c has 60 thou' miles, and the exhaust manifold is ticking. I'm not a really a gear-head, but I love my truck, and DO NOT want a new one. You've inspired me to invest my money in improving what I have. Thanks!
Awesome to hear this! Welcome to the channel and thanks!
Thanks for all your videos.
Thank you for watching!
Came here looking for the Leitner rack for my 11' ram 1500 then I found your account and am not let down. It's good to see you live here in SCV as well. I noticed Saugus high, the intersection at the Whites bridge, etc... hope I see your truck around town man. I'm in a ton of 4x4 groups around here so hit me up if you wanna go wheeling.
That was a fun video to watch. I love my Ram 1500. I upgraded to an ecodiesel a few years ago because I drive it 22k per year. I think about what my outdoorsman with the Hemi, 3.92 gears and 6 speed would have been like with some of the upgrades you have done. I need to get a daily and a toy that I can play with!
These are such good trucks! I would say that with the miles you put on... remember to replace some of your bushings/ball joints or control arms like I did here.... It made such a huge difference.
This was such a cool video my friend...
Great video, planning and doing this to my 2007 4runner sport 4WD ;)
The combo of ICON suspension and Mevotech components has been great!
As always... Great video!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Excellent video !
Thanks!
Awesome videos! I really like the way you break everything down, take the time to show the steps, and explain why. I also like that you're working with parts on a conscious budget.
Are there any Ford Super Duty channels out there doing this same thing to their tired Ford suspension?
Thanks very much! I would look through the catalog of Mevotech stuff for your Ford. Those parts made such a huge difference and were cost effective. I'm in the middle of putting together a Mevotech parts order for the front end of my Jeep... I've been really happy.
What a good video, made with passion
I love this stuff... glad it shows!!! Thanks!
