    I hated my job so i fired myself. I kept the job but only kept what unemployment would pay me and banked the rest. It hurt to have so little money. Soon i figured it out cutting expenses and living different. After 2 years i had banked enough to really quit and start a business. Now im making 4x what i was being paid at my job.
    Best move i ever made.

    Codie I love that you are giving this advice! I started a business that I worked during the day and worked nights at my full time job. It started because I needed to make more money and no one would hire me and the only option was to work for myself. I ended up quitting my job and working full time at my business which freed up time to add more side hustles. I then bought another bus which didn’t work out but was able to sell for more than I bought it for so I broke even.
    I had my life turned upside down and closed my business just at the point where I was really starting to grow. (I know stupid) I lost all confidence, moved away, tried 9-5 jobs and working my way up. I was miserable! I got married and am finally at a point where I feel like I can start again.
    Thank you for the motivation!

    No fluff, just truth bombs and motivation! I call this walking into the dream with your eyes open. There's challenges but if you want to move forward at a rapid pace you probably have to work at it like you never had before, I love the part about mediocrity and multitasking, it took me 20 years to figure that one out on my own...

    Really very solid, pragmatic advice. My only quibble is the part about not quitting the W-2 job until your 'side hustle' can pay all the bills...this sounds great in theory but in practice, most people will just get distracted and never reach that point and stay in their comfy W-2 job forever. What finally worked for me was having "NO PLAN B". Nothing focuses the mind like walking a tight-rope without a safety net.

    This almost seems like an outdated idea since things are changing so quickly. Sure, the typical 9 to 5 is not what most people prefer, but nowadays having the right one may actually be better than trying to grind away at this "start your own business" mantra.
    The business world is quite saturated and there are a lot of false promises. No job is safe and there are a lot of shifts happening, but maybe finding something secure and not flashy is becoming the new way to go.
    Cheers.

    • @JimmyLasagnaa
      @JimmyLasagnaa 7 месяцев назад +4

      Let me add, if that’s how someone feels, nothing wrong with that whatsoever. There are a lot of great 9-5 jobs out there if that’s the model that works best for you. Just make sure that is YOUR decision and you aren’t just letting fear and self-doubt or someone on the internet tell you other people can have it a certain way, but not you.. THAT’S crap. Be aware of the difference and make your choices consciously.☝️

    • @lpslancelot05
      @lpslancelot05 5 месяцев назад

      That’s true, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows either way.
      Some people would actually prefer the regular salary and being told what to do. They’re task oriented and thrive in that environment.
      Other people need the creativity, the challenge, the wins and losses to be engaged with life.
      For me personally, a 9-5 job feels like prison to me (I did it for 10 years). I’d rather make way less money, work more and call my own shots than live at a desk.
      People may think I’m crazy, I think they’re crazy, maybe we’re both right. 🙂

    As a newbie that wants to invest, you must have these three things in mind
    1. Have a long term mindset.
    2. Be willing to take risk.
    3. Be careful on money usage, if you're not spending to earn back, then stop spending.
    4. Never claim to know - Ask questions and it's best you work with a financial advisor.

    I think the biggest caveat that Codie's videos all seem to suffer from is that they all very obviously cater to younger people. I understand that she has to have a certain critical mass of impressionable minds in order to maintain a relevant online presence but there's a very hard reality that is missing from most of this content, older people want financial independence too.

    Many of your videos seem like you were talking about me. I've had many of the businesses over the years that you've talked about in your videos. And in this video you said some of the very things I've been through. In 2012 I met an MD in Chicago from an IB out of Manhattan. We talked about a lot of stuff over the 2 or 3 days at this event. I told him vaguely about one of the businesses I was working on since 2007. We didn't have an NDA so I didn't feel comfortable going into much detail. At the end of the week when it was all over he said that his company wanted to invest 5M (I was told this was their minimum) You may know if this even sounds right or not. I was a bit spooked by it once i really started considering it. Anyway I let that go at the time. So I don't know if this was something real or not.
    My three businesses (sister companies) are all in the same industry but serve different purposes. The lesser of the three does $42k per month from one client and usually on a 24 - 36 month contract. Lunch for two everyday is literally my expenses.
    Side note: I had a business when I was 17 that my family thought was a side hussle until they saw I was working only 4 hrs per day 2 days a week and was making $187k a year. Then they wanted a job. lol. This would be a good one to feature on one of your low start up businesses video. The contracts would probably be easier to land now since there's internet.

      @@riselikeaneagle I didn't take over my business, I started it from the ground up. I'd say the biggest problem I've had over the years is scaling. I've delegated everything I can, but I'm still required. My goal was to systemize everything so I could do other things if and when I wanted. I cap out at around 100 clients and 4 projects. More than that and my sanity starts slipping.

    Would you mind putting a language rating on your videos so I can know which, if any, I can share with my daughters?

    Great Video with all the videos and influencers the line gets blured. I am in my mid 40's no formal education. Because of my communication I was able to land a job as a techsupport manager making $70k and now after 4 years we may all get let go! Going back to school might be an option but I really don't think I can waste an additional 4 years w/o making money. I applied to several jobs and going back to $22 an hour just SUCKS! I've worked and trainined and talked with engineers for years. I just don't have a college degree! I am thinking of openining up a business but I am not sure in what. I don't know what to do....

      I'm in very similar circumstances. There are tons of people retiring and selling their businesss. Much of them not advertising them. I am negotiating a deal on a 22 year old business right now. Can't wait to be my own boss.

    I don't have 9-5, lifetime entrepreneur here. Tried probably300 business ideas and all failed. Running out of time money and energy. Can't lose my last bit of money. made money from some but sadly most no. Because I don't have a 9-5 to get financing for a senior care home I paid $30k to learn how. They didn't tell me I need a job to get financing. these are the brick walls I keep running into. Any ideas on how or where to get financing for a senior care home?

    Codie, it's not so easy with kids. The truth is that once you have kids in your 30s you are screwed on the side of side-hustling. Either you have your shot in 20s or then if you have kids in your 30s you're done. You come back in your 40s I guess, once the little buggers grow a bit...Kudos to all side-hustling parents there!

      So tough with kids especially if you are a single parent. I was able to have my husband’s help and have a side hustle even with little kids

      @@Styledmicasa Single parents hustlers are superheroes for me, they are unreal! Kudos to you for keeping up! We have a second child now - a 2 year old ( older daughter is 8) and I am really struggling to go back to side hustling even tho I exactly know what I want. For the most part it is because we have no routines and the little guy pretty much waste us all and we all fall down at 11pm. We need to change it, but so far it is more in terms of talk than execution. But, he will grow, it is going to get better.

      "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right."
      Point is, it's your mindset that matters. If you think you can do it, you'll find a way. If you think you can't, you'll only find excuses to 'rationalize' why you're not.
