Owned a pressure washing company in the late 90's/early 00's. Using a cold machine like the ones you're renting at Home Depot for cleaning concrete is a mistake. Wand cleaning concrete is a mistake, as well. It will generally either turn out streaked, still dirty, or both, and it'll take way longer than it should. Use a surface cleaner (kinda looks like a lawnmower) and heat for actual cleaning, then use the wand to rinse, and your concrete will come out beautifully in a much shorter amount of time. There's exceptions, tricks, and more to it, but that's the simplified version.

If you were cleaning I'd say you had a job. If you were charging $50, but paying a guy $7 per hour do work the job. Then I'd say you had a business. Is creating a job more important than working one?
The idea of a three-tier pricing model makes so much sense. People do love that middle ground. It's like offering them options without overwhelming them.
There's another model called "popcorn pricing" where you set expectation with the lowest-priced item, then offer extreme value with the higher priced items. A small popcorn at $7, medium with 50% more popcorn at $8.00, and at $9.00 with double the popcorn.
I get that these things work, psychologically, I just always feel cheated as a customer, IF I find out I have been manipulated by these marketing tricks. It makes me paranoid about how else I'm being fooled, hence I avoid dealing with them again, if I have options. Like, if you have an empty order book, because customers don't see the value in your 270$ service, then maybe you should add services instead of getting them to accept it using tricks of perception. Maybe I'm being overly righteous, donno xD

Dear Codie, thank you for everything you share with us. I implanted the idea of starting a pressure washing/window cleaning business with my daughters when they are in their teens. We are always discussing creative ways they can make money (we don't pay them to do chores, everyone has to do chores, but they do have an allowance to learn how to manage money). Last year at 7,7, and 9 we brainstormed little businesses and they all made business cards and canvassed the neighborhood. Cutest thing ever. It's because of you I've been able to teach my daughters the power of boring businesses (hubby and I have 3, not so boring + a rental house... have our eye on a local RV park). The kids chose poop scooping, leaf raking and removal and the older one is a mother's helper. Costs less than babysitting, but keeps little ones entertained so mom can get sh*t done around the house.😂 Goal: our daughters learn work ethic and business strategy young. Are able to earn as teens and have options as young adults. They love playing Kiyosaki's Cashflow for kids game. Can't wait to show them this video!❤❤❤

The thing to me is, if you invest and have other income outside of dividends then you will be able to live off dividends without selling. Which means you can pass that on to your kids which will give them a leg up in life. $52k dividends received in 2022.
I agree! That's why it is advisable that you have to invest while you still have a regular job or earning a regular income, and do it constantly. You still need to have something that will keep you going even if you're investing. Good financial planning and money allocation is the key.
The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my portfolio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment.
When she says she can replace your 100k per yr job by “making” $384 per day, she is leaving out cost of equipment, cost of insurance (huge cost), cost of gas, cost of chemicals, cost of maintenance etc. you’ve got to make a good bit more than $384 per day to replace your $100k salary that you probably make in the nice air conditioning. Just a word of caution before jumping in head first.

yeah, and does she have enough friends to provide half her income every day for the next X years? I feel like you would run out of friends hiring you after a week? and relying on cold calls/door knocking for the rest? theres gonna be days/weeks those wont get you any customers. and repeat customers could only repeat once or twice per year, if you're lucky.
If you make 100k a year you don't need to start a business. As long as you save and invest 15% of your income, you're set, you've made it. You won. It's the people like me making half that, that need this.

There is one big downside in renting equipment. Timely Availability. I'f the rig or other equipment you need is rented out messing with your time can effect your customers expectations of your business if it forces you to get the job done significantly later. Also not all rented equipment is in the best of shape so you may get a dud that passed inspection which is light use but the gaskets could go out on the job and now you're down a rig probably have to repair it because it broke in your use and puts your work schedule back.
Exactly. In big cities, usually there are plenty of sources. However, getting a dud can really set you back. I had a neighbor who was going to pressure wash their sister's house. The washer fired up (gas) just fine the first time but the hose popped off. So, turned off, reattached hose, then after a couple of pulls, the wheel got stuck somehow so couldn't pull or start it - done. They had to take it back and get another one. Lots of time wasted not actually accomplishing anything.

Except she didn't do it all with only $400 a MONTH income and rent at $350, starting cash of $100 and NO viable credit to get a loan from ANYONE! (and have no friends or family period) While I do applaud the information as correct, the starting point is one from an already established financially secure position. As she stated, it's to REPLACE a $100k job NOT start from scratch. Should she fail, she has more then enough financial security to fall back on thus no risk and no pressure.

This is a good idea, but this is only one weekend. A person wanting to do this would have to hustle a lot harder and try to pickup repeat customers. Most homes can't afford to pay a monthly pressure washing fee. I would think asking restraunts and gas stations may pay off in the long run. Also, what do you do in the winter time when pressure washing isn't going to be needed as much? Would you have to create a second business to get you through the winter or would you put money back that allowed you to be off during the winter months? Those are things to think about before quitting your full-time job and going out on your own. I want to own a business but I just don't know where to start and the uncertainty scares me to death. I have a family to support. That being said though I often wonder if I could provide better for my family if I owned my own business...
I'm currently no finance major or business administration major, but a possible idea to help write out rough patches to keep the business afloat is to invest most of your money in high dividend yield stocks.
@@Bald_Fred You'd need some serious capital to meet your crossover point. You'd need to forecast for seasonality demand and factor that in. So you'd need to hustle twice or more as hard to be cushioned enough to make it till spring. It's a tough business which it takes grit to keep at it.

That's the beauty of 9-5. You can achieve the same thing as business owners in a 5 year period with no risk, statistically speaking. Worse reason to start a business is to make money. You have to want to leap out of bed to apply water at mach 2 into pavement.

I did something similar back in 2000 and it was great. Unfortunately, this is not accounting for States/Counties/Cities that require a business license/insurance, have water or chemical use restrictions, have containment requirements, etc. Regardless, it's the "thinking outside the box concepts that I love on your channel.

Door knocking is quite time consuming, I had an old roommate that did sales jobs like that and he was quite good but it's still time consuming. And that's not even counting the work of power washing or handing it off to other companies for less $. Still, excellent video of how to create your own company.

I was in a similar dilemma two years back. A business may not be the right/only way to go about getting that extra money except you won't do the running of the business yourself. You should probably consider investing instead. Stocks, ETF's or even Real Estates if you have the money are viable options. You don't necessarily need a lot of time for this and it is equally rewarding. You can even use the service of a financial expert and this way, you literally do nothing. I make close to twice my regular income this way and I plan to still own a business but much later when I'm ready to retire. Goodluck
I don't really understand your first question. For the second, you should start by looking out for those from credible firms and good track records. You should also make sure the person is licensed. Personally, I use Michael Allen Eckrich. He's good and you could also look him up.
building, writing, selling e-books on stuff you are passionate about to people who have equal passion but are more novice. I would make sure to enter forums, in-person meetings, and other places where you can meet your niche audience to help boost sales because if you want to sell a book with zero ads, you gotta do the exposure yourself. Probably on the weekends in-person and at night you market yourself to spaces online. Make sure you find places that are friendly to self-promotion, because otherwise it will backfire and you will tarnish your brand

The way you figured out pricing is insane. One call with one price lol. Not even calculating your cost. Assuming his $175 wasn’t his highest. Then I noticed this is pre tax assumption. No truck/transport cost. Most people you know won’t spend a dime with you, 99% of the business will be cold calls. Remember she’s a popular RUclipsr, who does business videos, of course her friends will be in and she got one. I owned an auto shop for years before I sold my half, my mom was the only one that actually spent money with me. Cold calls and repeats made us MILLIONS in revenue a year. Most friends want free or never show. It’s awkward for them. Now if you’re spending all day selling, you aren’t actually doing the work. So either hire someone or get half the knocks. Fun video but for people doing this that don’t understand, you’re missing a lot of information. Likely even doing it this way will net you a $40k a year job after expenses and taxes and insurance etc. again fun video, she’s 7/10 honest. Rather see the facts not the dream. IF you have the cash to have a few sales people and two trucks with crew to start you can expand very fast. Also lead gen will just LEAD to them stealing your customer. A very stupid way to do business, selling your leads.
1000 percent accurate and i know because lawn service ppl do it all the time when they hire ppl to do the job for them!!!! Some jobs better off done by self and this is one unless your revenue is coming from commercial businesses because generally that may mean that you are well off and well established where a small time person can’t just intervene for many reasons.

all great advice but people are struggling right now. cars getting repoed, cutting back on food, moldy driveway and sidewalk is far down the list to spend $300. realtors, air bnb owners, condo complex may be your best bet. upsclae neighborhoods would work if you can get in the gate.
Easy enough to do most of this however once we hit contacts, thats were most people will fail. Most of you will have to go door to door or advertise. Just my 2 cents.

Also, once you have canvassed all the people, they probably won't want it done for another 3-5 years. Also, you look like someone who people would want to pressure wash their abodes. If your not as good looking, perhaps it would be a harder sell. Two stroke engines can be quite finicky. You didn't mention learning about those and how to wrangle them. More knowledge. Selling your leads was probably the best idea ever.

A couple questions. Your uniform says Pinks, but then you sold the leads to a company called Pinks. Since you're saying you started this business from scratch, and their already appears to be a preexisting company called Pinks, I'm assuming you are claiming to be a representative of a company you don't work for. If this is the case, how is it OK/legal to do so. If this is not what happened, could you explain the relationship between your business and theirs? And I have seen the concept of selling leads before to preexisting companies. In those instances, do the customers not wonder why some other company showed up to perform the service you sold to them? I would think some people would perceive this to be some kind of scam or would be worried everyone involved are criminals looking to rob them or something.

How is it starting a business in a weekend from scratch if you're already invested in a competitor company, you go around the neighborhood dressed as an employee for that company (again, not sure if that's even permitted or legal), and then at the end of the day, sell the leads to that company instead of doing the jobs herself? She's taking advantage of preexisting relationships and connections that the people this video is aimed at wouldn't have at their disposal. Not to mention it allows her to circumvent other costs and concerns that would have to be dealt with if she performed the services herself, like getting insurance to protect against the possibility of property damage. I'm not saying there isn't good info or ideas in the video. Just saying there's definitely a bit of cheating considering what she initially set out to accomplish.
@@Intramorph Definitely a very misleading video. First sale is a friend - footage of the call, none of any work being done. Second sale all pitch and no work done. Third sale is just her walking around and making up a quote. Finally she sells the leads to a company she's an investor in - falling well short of the money she originally set as a target to replace the "9 to 5 job". The only power washing in this video is footage of someone else doing it. She didn't set up a business at all, essentially she just worked as a door-to-door salesman for another company.

It's more like a seasonal kind of job because most people don't pressure wash their properties until late spring, early summer unless you live in a nice warmer climate. And some home owners won't do it unless they want to sell their houses.

Cool ideas.. knocked on about 1000 doors got 5 to ten leads… this spring -attacked by one dog and got into argument with the home owner .Once also had a guy jump on my car saying i was stealing his stuff. On another flyer campaighn my buddy slammed his other buddies hand in the door and she had to quit .. Dogs not leashed and random doors left open are insane… almost got attacked by multiple dogs , some Houses looked haunted and i decided id better not leave flyers there. Once did flyers in a low cost area and got 0 leads after 300 flyers 😅. Long story short… don’t quit. You’ll get people Taking your service ,then Get the neighbour to do it.. had that happen many times and then you’ll get some that try to tell you how much you should really be charging… either way if you can survive door knocking u can do almost anything in business!!

Would love to hear from you about starting up in a deeply recessed country where real estate is not an affordable investment for someone starting up, people are very suspicious, the country in general has always been in survival mode and thus not supportive to long term vision, so also most people are not investing in making their houses look good or really spending money on the smaller things that a well established large country gets to settle down into. In fact we are in the middle of war! Help? How do we provide needed services and products with no market to people with very little to no money. Obviously we have some very high net worth citizens but they have their luxury services already, it's a relatively small pool here. How do we better the life of the average citizens without breaking their bank? ❤

It’s also a good idea to keep yourself equipped with liability insurance schemes.
Owned a pressure washing company in the late 90's/early 00's. Using a cold machine like the ones you're renting at Home Depot for cleaning concrete is a mistake. Wand cleaning concrete is a mistake, as well. It will generally either turn out streaked, still dirty, or both, and it'll take way longer than it should. Use a surface cleaner (kinda looks like a lawnmower) and heat for actual cleaning, then use the wand to rinse, and your concrete will come out beautifully in a much shorter amount of time. There's exceptions, tricks, and more to it, but that's the simplified version.

If you were cleaning I'd say you had a job. If you were charging $50, but paying a guy $7 per hour do work the job. Then I'd say you had a business. Is creating a job more important than working one?
The idea of a three-tier pricing model makes so much sense. People do love that middle ground. It's like offering them options without overwhelming them.
There's another model called "popcorn pricing" where you set expectation with the lowest-priced item, then offer extreme value with the higher priced items. A small popcorn at $7, medium with 50% more popcorn at $8.00, and at $9.00 with double the popcorn.

I get that these things work, psychologically, I just always feel cheated as a customer, IF I find out I have been manipulated by these marketing tricks. It makes me paranoid about how else I'm being fooled, hence I avoid dealing with them again, if I have options. Like, if you have an empty order book, because customers don't see the value in your 270$ service, then maybe you should add services instead of getting them to accept it using tricks of perception. Dear Codie, thank you for everything you share with us. I implanted the idea of starting a pressure washing/window cleaning business with my daughters when they are in their teens. We are always discussing creative ways they can make money (we don't pay them to do chores, everyone has to do chores, but they do have an allowance to learn how to manage money). Last year at 7,7, and 9 we brainstormed little businesses and they all made business cards and canvassed the neighborhood. Cutest thing ever. It's because of you I've been able to teach my daughters the power of boring businesses (hubby and I have 3, not so boring + a rental house... have our eye on a local RV park). The kids chose poop scooping, leaf raking and removal and the older one is a mother's helper. Costs less than babysitting, but keeps little ones entertained so mom can get sh*t done around the house.😂 Goal: our daughters learn work ethic and business strategy young. Are able to earn as teens and have options as young adults. They love playing Kiyosaki's Cashflow for kids game. Can't wait to show them this video!❤❤❤

The thing to me is, if you invest and have other income outside of dividends then you will be able to live off dividends without selling. Which means you can pass that on to your kids which will give them a leg up in life. $52k dividends received in 2022.
I agree! That's why it is advisable that you have to invest while you still have a regular job or earning a regular income, and do it constantly. You still need to have something that will keep you going even if you're investing. Good financial planning and money allocation is the key.

If you make 100k a year you don't need to start a business. As long as you save and invest 15% of your income, you're set, you've made it. You won. It's the people like me making half that, that need this.

There is one big downside in renting equipment. Timely Availability. I'f the rig or other equipment you need is rented out messing with your time can effect your customers expectations of your business if it forces you to get the job done significantly later. Also not all rented equipment is in the best of shape so you may get a dud that passed inspection which is light use but the gaskets could go out on the job and now you're down a rig probably have to repair it because it broke in your use and puts your work schedule back.
Exactly. In big cities, usually there are plenty of sources. However, getting a dud can really set you back. I had a neighbor who was going to pressure wash their sister's house. The washer fired up (gas) just fine the first time but the hose popped off. So, turned off, reattached hose, then after a couple of pulls, the wheel got stuck somehow so couldn't pull or start it - done. They had to take it back and get another one. Lots of time wasted not actually accomplishing anything.

Except she didn't do it all with only $400 a MONTH income and rent at $350, starting cash of $100 and NO viable credit to get a loan from ANYONE! (and have no friends or family period) While I do applaud the information as correct, the starting point is one from an already established financially secure position. As she stated, it's to REPLACE a $100k job NOT start from scratch. Should she fail, she has more then enough financial security to fall back on thus no risk and no pressure.

This is a good idea, but this is only one weekend. A person wanting to do this would have to hustle a lot harder and try to pickup repeat customers. Most homes can't afford to pay a monthly pressure washing fee. I would think asking restraunts and gas stations may pay off in the long run. Also, what do you do in the winter time when pressure washing isn't going to be needed as much? Would you have to create a second business to get you through the winter or would you put money back that allowed you to be off during the winter months?
Those are things to think about before quitting your full-time job and going out on your own. I want to own a business but I just don't know where to start and the uncertainty scares me to death. I have a family to support. That being said though I often wonder if I could provide better for my family if I owned my own business...

I just start this business. Learning how to pressure wash is the easy part. The harder part is getting customers and sustain that so I can no longer work a 9-5 job.
That's the beauty of 9-5. You can achieve the same thing as business owners in a 5 year period with no risk, statistically speaking. Worse reason to start a business is to make money. You have to want to leap out of bed to apply water at mach 2 into pavement.

I did something similar back in 2000 and it was great. Unfortunately, this is not accounting for States/Counties/Cities that require a business license/insurance, have water or chemical use restrictions, have containment requirements, etc. Regardless, it's the "thinking outside the box concepts that I love on your channel.

Door knocking is quite time consuming, I had an old roommate that did sales jobs like that and he was quite good but it's still time consuming. And that's not even counting the work of power washing or handing it off to other companies for less $.

I was in a similar dilemma two years back. A business may not be the right/only way to go about getting that extra money except you won't do the running of the business yourself. You should probably consider investing instead. Stocks, ETF's or even Real Estates if you have the money are viable options. You don't necessarily need a lot of time for this and it is equally rewarding. You can even use the service of a financial expert and this way, you literally do nothing. I make close to twice my regular income this way and I plan to still own a business but much later when I'm ready to retire. Goodluck

I don't really understand your first question. For the second, you should start by looking out for those from credible firms and good track records. You should also make sure the person is licensed. Personally, I use Michael Allen Eckrich. He's good and you could also look him up.

I would make sure to enter forums, in-person meetings, and other places where you can meet your niche audience to help boost sales because if you want to sell a book with zero ads, you gotta do the exposure yourself. Make sure you find places that are friendly to self-promotion, because otherwise it will backfire and you will tarnish your brand

The way you figured out pricing is insane. One call with one price lol. Not even calculating your cost. Assuming his $175 wasn’t his highest. Then I noticed this is pre tax assumption. No truck/transport cost. Most people you know won’t spend a dime with you, 99% of the business will be cold calls. Remember she’s a popular RUclipsr, who does business videos, of course her friends will be in and she got one. I owned an auto shop for years before I sold my half, my mom was the only one that actually spent money with me. Cold calls and repeats made us MILLIONS in revenue a year. Most friends want free or never show. It’s awkward for them. Now if you’re spending all day selling, you aren’t actually doing the work. So either hire someone or get half the knocks. Fun video but for people doing this that don’t understand, you’re missing a lot of information. Likely even doing it this way will net you a $40k a year job after expenses and taxes and insurance etc. again fun video, she’s 7/10 honest. Rather see the facts not the dream. IF you have the cash to have a few sales people and two trucks with crew to start you can expand very fast. Also lead gen will just LEAD to them stealing your customer. A very stupid way to do business, selling your leads.
1000 percent accurate and i know because lawn service ppl do it all the time when they hire ppl to do the job for them!!!! Some jobs better off done by self and this is one unless your revenue is coming from commercial businesses because generally that may mean that you are well off and well established where a small time person can’t just intervene for many reasons.

wow, so impressive. thanks for the video. spring and fall may be a good sell but probably harder in summer and winter. Also, once you have canvassed all the people, they probably won't want it done for another 3-5 years. Also, you look like someone who people would want to pressure wash their abodes. If your not as good looking, perhaps it would be a harder sell.
Two stroke engines can be quite finicky. You didn't mention learning about those and how to wrangle them. More knowledge. Selling your leads was probably the best idea ever.

A couple questions. Your uniform says Pinks, but then you sold the leads to a company called Pinks. Since you're saying you started this business from scratch, and their already appears to be a preexisting company called Pinks, I'm assuming you are claiming to be a representative of a company you don't work for. If this is the case, how is it OK/legal to do so. If this is not what happened, could you explain the relationship between your business and theirs?
And I have seen the concept of selling leads before to preexisting companies. In those instances, do the customers not wonder why some other company showed up to perform the service you sold to them? I would think some people would perceive this to be some kind of scam or would be worried everyone involved are criminals looking to rob them or something.

@@OhWhatFun Then that's pretty misleading given the stated goal for this video. How is it starting a business in a weekend from scratch if you're already invested in a competitor company, you go around the neighborhood dressed as an employee for that company (again, not sure if that's even permitted or legal), and then at the end of the day, sell the leads to that company instead of doing the jobs herself? She's taking advantage of preexisting relationships and connections that the people this video is aimed at wouldn't have at their disposal. Not to mention it allows her to circumvent other costs and concerns that would have to be dealt with if she performed the services herself, like getting insurance to protect against the possibility of property damage.
I'm not saying there isn't good info or ideas in the video. Just saying there's definitely a bit of cheating considering what she initially set out to accomplish.
@@Intramorph Definitely a very misleading video. First sale is a friend - footage of the call, none of any work being done. Second sale all pitch and no work done. Third sale is just her walking around and making up a quote. Finally she sells the leads to a company she's an investor in - falling well short of the money she originally set as a target to replace the "9 to 5 job". The only power washing in this video is footage of someone else doing it. She didn't set up a business at all, essentially she just worked as a door-to-door salesman for another company.
@@HK1982PBwhat she did was make a video. Everything in it is bullshit. Some okay tip and tricks for sure, but she didn’t really do anything for real. Life is not this easy for 99.9% of people trying to start up their own small business

Mind blowing tutorial. Undeniably good plan. But you did not address a business license and a tax number. But I get your point.
It's more like a seasonal kind of job because most people don't pressure wash their properties until late spring, early summer unless you live in a nice warmer climate. And some home owners won't do it unless they want to sell their houses.
I love this Codie. Even professionals can get out there and sell. I am a professional too but hate selling especially if it is selling door to door, but I love selling over the phone and I have used it for my own benefit. I am looking for more ways to make money and your videos are the best. You are such an inspiration to a lot of people, thank you!

Cool ideas.. knocked on about 1000 doors got 5 to ten leads… this spring -attacked by one dog and got into argument with the home owner .Once also had a guy jump on my car saying i was stealing his stuff. On another flyer campaighn my buddy slammed his other buddies hand in the door and she had to quit ..
Dogs not leashed and random doors left open are insane… almost got attacked by multiple dogs , some
Houses looked haunted and i decided id better not leave flyers there. Once did flyers in a low cost area and got 0 leads after 300 flyers 😅. Long story short… don’t quit. You’ll get people

This is such a wonderful mentoring thank you! I so appreciate you showing us step by step how to literally step it up! Now some of these specifics will be different in other cultures and countries. Would love to hear from you about starting up in a deeply recessed country where real estate is not an affordable investment for someone starting up, people are very suspicious, the country in general has always been in survival mode and thus not supportive to long term vision, so also most people are not investing in making their houses look good or really spending money on the smaller things that a well established large country gets to settle down into. In fact we are in the middle of war! Help? How do we provide needed services and products with no market to people with very little to no money. Obviously we have some very high net worth citizens but they have their luxury services already, it's a relatively small pool here.
How do we better the life of the average citizens without breaking their bank? ❤
