    To people complaining about the 'bracelets', they're not bracelets. They're based off the Iron Rings commonly found in the Hung Gar style of martial arts. The shaolin style Yau Kung Man also uses them as well. So technically yes, they are still rings.

    • @Wo_SH

    An observation I made while watching this that I didn't catch when watching the trailer is that when we see The Mandarin on a throne/chair with long hair, the Ten Rings mural behind him is different than what we have seen at any time before. Specifically, the characters/calligraphy in each ring is done in a much older Chinese style whereas the symbols/calligraphy we've seen in the previous Iron Man movies looked more like Arabic in style. This could be a hint that long-hair Mandarin is in a flashback and that its showing us that the Ten Rings organization has changed over time.

    • @waltascher
      @waltascher 3 года назад +5

      I’ve done some research about this. Apparently the script on the older Ten Rings logo is Mongolian calligraphy, with each ring bearing the name of a different Mongolian or Turkic tribe. But the Mongolian government complained to Marvel about a part of their culture being used for a terrorist group, so I’m guessing Marvel decided to change it.

I was kinda bummed that we didn’t see Shang Chi suit up in his costume but based off the poster, his suit looks really cool. I also really like the Mandarin’s overall look. Changing his ten rings from finger rings to arm ring bracelets is a very good move. Visually it looks much better and I’m sure when the Mandarin uses his powers, we’re going to see some very interesting effects. Ever since I first watched Iron Man 3, I adored the Mandarin twist, because the plan to control both sides of the war on terror with terrorist imagery and preconceived notions, just to send Extremis to cover AIM's mistakes, brilliant. Plus, Ben Kingsley was having a ball playing him. As time passed, people have either cooled down or seen that comic Mandarin wasn't that interesting to begin with, so I was game for this, but I do get the anger a bit, so now we have a brand new version, that's less... I am an unapologetic Trevor Slattery fan. When “The Mandarin” was revealed to be a washed up, drug addled English actor, I thought it was great. There is room in the MCU for The Mandarin and Trevor Slattery. I'm sure that Shang Chi is going to be great, but bringing back Slattery in some way would put it over the top.

    I like the change from actual rings to
    Hung Gar style iron rings used by martial artists. It blends the story and teases the possible connection with FFF. Having regular finger rings would be a bit silly

    • @antona.1327
      @antona.1327 3 года назад

      You're saying regular rings, which aren't rings to begin with, make less sense than clunky hand bracelets? You're also talking about rings being silly while mentioning a possible appearance from an alien dragon.

    • @AIIXIII0
      @AIIXIII0 3 года назад

      @@antona.1327 What are you preaching? The clunky hand "bracelets" is used in martial arts. Like the guy said Hung Gar style. Iron rings. Go and see Kung Fu Hustle. Yeah, those clunky rings made a lot more sense and fits a lot more well. It ties well with all the martial arts concept. Who the F wore rings to a martial arts fight?
      And yeah, the dragon make a lot more sense too. It resembles the dragons that Chinese believe in. They want to showcase the culture well and all of those do instead of the original rings.
      And its called Iron Rings. Its rings. Not iron bracelets.

  • @trevordeke
    @trevordeke 3 года назад

    Just FYI, either hand can be used in defense or offense. Generally, the right hand blocks attacks coming from the upper right zone, the right leg the lower right zone, the left blocks the left side, etc etc. Strikes coming from the back hand, generally, are power strikes; strikes coming from the forward hand are less powerful, but have greater reach. In the wing chun variant I studied, we trained to fight with either hand dominant, and change dominance with every step forward, constantly pressing the opponent and trying to force them to make mistakes. This is why either arm (or leg!) needs to be able to attack or defend at all times, regardless of position/dominance.
    So, basically everything in the Twitter comment seems wrong, except maybe this might be a Wushu pose. Tiger palm and (obviously) fists are pretty popular with multiple disciplines. While I have studied a few martial arts (wing chun, western boxing, judo), I don't want to pass myself off as an expert, but just as someone with a fair degree of experience. But this comment seems to be far off enough to warrant a criticism.

    Shang Chi was initially filmed and mainly filmed in Australia in 2020 from Feb to Aug 2020 during the height (still increasing) of the Pandemic in the USA which was fortunate since Australia was largely free from Covid, had good medical resources, organised and disciplined enough to effectively control outbreaks allowing more or less natural movement after mandatory quarantine.

    Something I noticed is the swords in the ten rings symbol are different than the ones in Iron Man; these are Fu Tao, or Hook Swords, a traditional Chinese sword; potentially suggesting either regionality to the organization, or another point of difference between this-the true ten rings-and what we saw in Iron Man

    If the rings come from space, maybe they are somehow related to the Infinity Stones, because the MCU relates everything absolutely powerful to a slight connection with them. Or they could be pretty much like Apocalypse's armor.

    You missed that the rings is an actual kung fu weapon tracing back to hung gar and shaolin, traditionally used like weights to strengthen arms as monks practice but also to give more power to blows when used in fights sort of like gauntlets.
    It’s even referenced in Kung fu hustle by the tailor character who also used the rings to fight in a very hyper stylized way of course. So maybe the poster is also a foreshadowing.
