@@drewcook2119 black panther was made for African Americans who wouldn't understand those African languages so they had to use a lot more English. I wish they didn't tho
Interesting details I noticed: -The dweller of darkness glows purple and grows stronger by consuming souls, which seems oddly similar to the black panther purple plants that that came on the vibranium comet, since their culture is so based in death and the afterlife and the plants make the people stronger when they eat them -The waterfall portal to the village was literally the water version of the fire portals the sorcerers use, which makes me see the village as essentially nature based implementations of the same core magic system in the MCU. Which makes me think the 10 rings function as some kinda conduit to various magic types, similar to thors hammer being a conduit to the odin force. The rings turned gold in the final attack, which I'm pretty sure is cosmic attacks.

You mean the overly traumatic evebt that F up the earth and all the universe and got several heroes (2 of them figurehead of humanity and avenger, permanently out of fight) being brushed up in 15 sec in a not so funny joke segment??? yhea... they really do reference it
I don't know how the MCU will have it but Dweller in Darkness was part of the fear lords in the comics. MCU puts their own spin on so much so I don't know if its part of that or if we'll see a connection down the road
It was literally the best mcu film for me, the lore around the movie made it very interesting, the videography, the plot, the way they just tone down on avengers or other marvel character reference really help establish the movie on its own rather than just a movie that is part of the mcu...the father and son conflict was executed very well and most of all the fight scenes were great.
Shang actually learned the moves from his mother when he was young. He just never realized it until his Aunt showed him briefly while sparring and then during the fight when he flashbacked to when his mother was moving him through the moves. Kind of like Karate Kid. All that "Work" he did was training him.
heard that The Eternals was supposed to aired first but was pushed back due to pandemy or something... maybe they'd explain something that linked it to Shang Chi there?
The 10 rings/bracelets could be linked to the 10 Eternals. Also: the scaffolding fight may also be a nod to Jackie Chan and his scaffolding figth in Rush Hour 2 :)
I like when Katy and Shang-Chi are telling their friends the story about the bully calling him “Gangnam Style” and Shang-Chi says “I’m not Korean”. Nice little reference to Simu Lius time on Kim’s Convenience where he plays a Korean character. 😂😂

It always amazes me what marvel(I guess Disney too lol) does with their cgi. I honestly feel like it’s not talked about enough how good and consistent their cgi has been especially in recent films.
Great movie,. good review. Looking for more from Shang Chi. Since I have practiced both Tai Chi Chuan and Ba Gua Chang, I can verify that the style you are calling Tai Chi Chuan (Principle of Yin/Yang Fist) is actually Ba Gua Chang (8 directions/principles Palm). The circling step is the basis of Ba Gua. There is only one circling step in the long tai chi form (leading into the Lotus Kick). The most common tactic of Tai chi is half-step yield, small pivot with spiral parry, and spring forward to uproot or flow through any opening. There is some overlap but they are distinct. Just saying.
Now that I think about the title “multiverse of madness”, emphasis on the madness part, madness is often associated with cosmic horror stuff and love craft so I wouldn’t doubt there’s gonna be so sort of Cthulhu monster as a main antagonist. Would be a great movie if done correctly, especially if it’s actually a “horror” movie as they’ve described.
It really is amazing that I didn’t know much about Simu Liu or Tony Leung before this movie and watching these guys absolutely just kill these roles made me feel I’ve been watching them for years. Props to the casting director!

What I really want from marvel is this, different genres, thriller, horror, R rated, rom com etc its cinematic universe right so multiple genres one world
Marvel has done a lot of different genres at this point. Spy thriller, heist, urban fantasy, afrofuturism, romance, sitcom… The MCU is a setting, not a genre. There’s a lot of room for Marvel Studios to play around and try their hand at different genres within the MCU. I want a slice of life movie about a family who half survives the blip. Like two parents, two kids, but then it’s the story of how one parent and one kid get snapped. I think that if it’s done well it could be a really emotional and heartwarming watch, and it could expand the MCU world building.

When Wong summons Shang-chi at the end of the movie saying, "Xu Shang-chi!"...Shang-chi responds "Present!". This is similar to the matchmaker who called out, "Fa Mulan!", and Mulan responded "Present!"
In the fight scenes between mother and father, father and son, I enjoyed the fact that the person who won was the person motivated by love and simply used the old philosophy of using your aggressors' rage against them while keeping your inner balance. As someone who loved watching old Jackie Chan movies with my dad back in the day, this was just lovely to see. 🍀🍀🍀
Fun fact: In the late 1980s Stan Lee had considered a film/TV series about Shang-Chi, and had in mind Brandon Lee, son of martial arts superstar Bruce Lee, for the role. Shang-Chi was visually based on Bruce Lee, so Brandon seemed a fitting choice, but the plan didn't go through

This movie is up there as one of the greatest stand alone MCU movies. I enjoyed it on a similar level to Black Panther and Ragnorak
True but black panther spoke english not half movie in another language that mos4 americans dont speak falls way short but it appeases there chinease owners
@@drewcook2119 well, Marvel is a global brand now, not just American. You think here in Europe we dont watch Marvel because it isnt in our native tongue? There are subtitles for that, Americans are just lucky and privileged that most blockbusters are in their first language haha
@Aliver87 obviously is right
@@drewcook2119 black panther was made for African Americans who wouldn't understand those African languages so they had to use a lot more English. I wish they didn't tho
If you think Shand Chi, Ragnorok and BP are some of the best MCU movies, we must have seen different cuts.
Interesting details I noticed:
-The dweller of darkness glows purple and grows stronger by consuming souls, which seems oddly similar to the black panther purple plants that that came on the vibranium comet, since their culture is so based in death and the afterlife and the plants make the people stronger when they eat them
-The waterfall portal to the village was literally the water version of the fire portals the sorcerers use, which makes me see the village as essentially nature based implementations of the same core magic system in the MCU. Which makes me think the 10 rings function as some kinda conduit to various magic types, similar to thors hammer being a conduit to the odin force. The rings turned gold in the final attack, which I'm pretty sure is cosmic attacks.
I'm surprised no details was mentioned about the water portal. It's oddly too similar to the fiery portal ring.
Kinda thought ancient one was the ancestor of those villagers

The bus fight scene really impressed me, the fighting choreography in this movie was great overall
Brad Allen (rest in peace) was really talented and worked a lot with Jackie Chan. Really good choreographer.
You've gotta love all the blip references. There was a time we thought they'd basically ignore that once everything was back now it seems they can't get enough. I love Blip Sync. That may be my favourite. It's simple yet the more I think about it the more hilarious it gets.

The soundtrack during that final father/son fight scene was AMAZING
Wong is slowly turning into the Uncle Iroh of the MCU
Don Lee would make a great Uncle Iroh
Shang actually learned the moves from his mother when he was young. He just never realized it until his Aunt showed him briefly while sparring and then during the fight when he flashbacked to when his mother was moving him through the moves. Kind of like Karate Kid. All that "Work" he did was training him.

heard that The Eternals was supposed to aired first but was pushed back due to pandemy or something... maybe they'd explain something that linked it to Shang Chi there?
I was thinking the soul sucker must be related to the dark dimension
The 10 rings/bracelets could be linked to the 10 Eternals. Also: the scaffolding fight may also be a nod to Jackie Chan and his scaffolding figth in Rush Hour 2 :)
The scaffolding scene is just like the use of his jacket and bus is , some of the stunt/ choreography crew have worked with Jackie
The choreography was very well done. Also, I love how they incorporated thousand year old Chinese wisdom of ancestral grief and filial piety.
I like when Katy and Shang-Chi are telling their friends the story about the bully calling him “Gangnam Style” and Shang-Chi says “I’m not Korean”. Nice little reference to Simu Lius time on Kim’s Convenience where he plays a Korean character. 😂😂
