Druig’s speech about blind trust and how not interfering with human v human interaction was hurting him was the moment he instantly became my favorite. That speech also gave me watery eyes
@@CrystalLynn1988 he said he thought about taking the minds of everyone on Earth (when him and Sersi were by the river b/c Thena was releasing Gilgamesh’s ash). Im gonna butcher his exact words but it was sort like if he were to do that, he would be removing the flaws of everyone. They wouldn’t be human anymore if he took away their flaws. That’s probably why he didn’t interfere with world wars.
I hope to see more of Druig. He seemed like a very emotionally complex character. I am curious as to why his only power in the film was interfering with human behavior when they weren’t supposed to interfere.
They were allowed to Interfere when it came to the Deviants though. We saw a few scenes where we Mind Controlled the people to like get to safety or whatever
It was my understanding they could not interfere with human wars. And getting humans to orderly leave an area with deviants attacking is a good way to save them from the deviants.
Druig, makkari and Gilgamesh were the highlight characters for me that I wish we got more of. It was a shame to see Gilgamesh and Kro die, particularly Gilga. I really liked him.
Thor never returned Kingo's phone calls because in "Thor Ragnarok" Doctor Strange asked if Thor had a phone and he said, "No I don't have a phone, but you could've sent an electronic letter. It's called an email". Doctor Strange says, "uh huh. Do you have a computer?" Then Thor says, "No, what for?" Thor isn't good with technology, that's why he hasn't returned Kingo's calls.
It's more like Thor doesn't know much about *HUMAN* tech. If you really think he's that dumbbb then by your standards, all Asgardians are dumbbb and prehistoric because they don't have LED TVs, phones, PS4s, Xbox's, etc. while forgetting the dudes have a a hallow suit of metal that can shoot beams of energy that was supposed to be meant to fight the Celestials (as per the comics) that can only be controlled by the one who has Odin's staff or given "provisional access" to said armor and other things as well like living on a flat-Earther's wet dream or be capable of transporting themselves to other places quickly that's faster than any FTL equipped ship in the Marvel universe or the fact that said blonde hunk used to carry around a hammer that can follow him anywhere, is capable of FTL travel, is near indestructible, can be used to fly and can be heavy or light depending on the wielder.

9:13 Along with these parallels, Makkari inspired Mercury, the God of commerce and thieves (links to how Makkari collects many historical items in the domo) and was gifted with winged feet to be faster while serving as a mediator. Also Druig would seem to link to Druids of ancient celtic mythology, with them being religious leaders and living within nature as he does.
Very cool details, thank you for that! I've always thought that Druig's name was partially inspired by the concept of druids. I had never considered Makkari-Mercury, though
Thank you! As soon as I heard his name for the first time I knew which myths he was supposed to have inspired. So when he said "Druig doesn't seem to have a mythological link", it bugged me so much. lol
Druig does have Irish mythological roots! In Irish mythology there’s Cathbad, Amergin, etc… and ancient Ireland druids had a huge role in society and were thought to practice magic! They were bards/keepers of oral histories and leaders so in a way they influenced the minds of people. Absolutely love that they cast an Irish actor here!
@@KDFAK47 to be fair I study European History with a focus on the Irish and British Isles! Historically, we don’t know a ton about Irish mythology like we do for other mythological pantheons but what we do is really cool. I loved this movie; personal highlight to me was the dynamic between Thena and Gilgamesh. It was so refreshing to see not just a platonic relationship but also one where one is helping the other through mental instability
The way they portray the Celestials is - perfection! You get that grand scale and that sense of intimidation when you look at a Celestial. Now, after seeing the Celestials done right, I'm even more mad at Fox for ruining Galactus because he could have been so much more than a giant space cloud.
Once I realized the Eternals predated Earth and when Shang-Chi used the rings and turned to a gold/orange coloration, I immediately thought that maybe the 10 Rings were of Eternal origins. Especially since the rings weren't made of metal known to Earth AND was sending signals to someone or something most likely to the Eternals or Celestials.
I think most of the magic we see in MCU has some sort of ties to the celestials, as explained in the video even Asgardians are a product of the celestials so any form of magic power roots to the Celestials.
The weapon that Phastos used to restrain Ikaris kinda looked similiar to the 10 rings, perhaps Phastos could've had a hand in it? Wouldn't be the first time he created a weapon that inadvertedly created more conflict.
I was just surprised Arishem didn't react in anger to them preventing the emergence. It's like he respected their determination and ability enough to at least consider sparing humanity, which is cool.
That's (probably) because he's the judge therefore needs to inflict fair justice despite his goals and intentions, I immediately thought about that while watching and got worried of the influence of OUR justice system, sometimes corrupt, on Arishem's "trial" and final decision
Thinking about it, the Celstials main goal is to maintain the universe which includes life. Tiamut was killed and that's that, while he will be angry about this, punishing humanity would be outside his interest
The change of pace was exactly what made this movie feel so refreshing. The way they revealed Ikaris's betrayal was done so well that for me this was the first time I felt bad for the "villain".
@@daddyavocado Ikaris betrayed the Eternals because he believed in killing a planet so that a Celestial can bring forth even more life. He was told the truth for centuries and suddenly Ajak turned a 180 and said we should not have the Emergence and let humanity live which went against EVERYTHING he believed in for his entire life. His entire existence. It makes sense with his perspective to kill fellow Eternals in the belief of his ideals, especially if it's what he has believed in for millennia.
@@daddyavocado The storyline is not the best since it felt a lot of "antagonists" like at first it was the power absorbing Deviant, then Ikaris and then the Celestials Tiamut (debatable since he actually helped Sersi and the unimind) and Arishem (since he's judging humanity). So definitely not the best film plot, but honestly I'll take this then Michael Bay's transformers live action plot of The Last Knight. That movie made me so confused in relation to what was previously told that I gave up on trying to understand the plot and just watching it for the action sequences and character appearances.
I loved that Kingo family reference, as is super common in Bollywood for generations of a film family to produce stars. Seems like a subtle nod to the Kapoor dynasty

One little/huge thing that stuck with me: in the final battle, Sersi turns a hurtling magma boulder into a flock of little birds. So she’s able to also create life from something lifeless.

I agree, although I do think steering from the formula did hurt them in some places. The end felt a bit anticlimactic when compared to other Marvel movies, and there were very long gaps between action sequences, granted the characters were great enough to keep those gaps interesting (unlike Black Widow imo)
It's a jab at DC to prove that marvel is better, it was literally a copy of the failed justice league that was made to be better to kind of "win the war" between marvel and DC, don't believe me, watch both movies and compare them
So, Arishem the judge, Nowhere the head of a celestial, Eson the searcher, Jemiah the analyser, Ego the living planet, Nezarr the calculator and Tiamut are the only celestials we've seen. Can't wait to see more of them in a huge scale!
Cut ego out of it because technically in the comics he’s not actually a celestial, and I think now that they are going deeper into celestial lore now in mcu they’ll retcon that point. Something like “he only claims to be a celestial” or something

Hey, hello. I never met anyone from a different universe, especially one where The Eternals movie makes sense as you mentioned. In this universe, most people disliked it a lot as the film was really bad with too many characters and themes crammed up into almost 2h30 that seemed like 5h. Plus incomplete story arcs and a dull protagonist.
@@miguelrosado6348 well that's the thing about this universe. Everyone is allowed their own opinions of what makes something good or bad. It's called individuality and free will...something that the Eternals just discovered they have.
Exactly what I was thinking. I get so tired of what I call police descriptions. Where you meet a character one after the other with a whole lotta exposition explaining everything. Somehow they let us meet the characters one by one.
Nahh.Thanos was just crazy af. The Celestials were/are the solution to his perceived problem. The Celestials create galaxies out of a single planet. Resources would be nearly infinite.
As an MCU movie lover with 0 knowledge of the actual comics, these videos explaining the lore and connections to real world events/things are MIND BLOWING.
Fun Fact: When Don Lee slaps one of the deviants it is a reference to a lot of the movies he is in where his signature move is a killer slap. I know a lot of people won't get it, but that scene made me laugh very hard For fans of Don Lee this is a huge W.
Thanos to Stark: "You're not the only one cursed with knowledge" So I guess Thanos found out what the celestials really were up to and by taking away half of all life in the universe he is delaying not only earths celestial seed but every worlds and galaxys celestial seeds. Is Thanos a hero? Infinity War was basically his story, ending with "Thanos will return" like every hero gets at the end of their movie. He knew what he had to do, no one else would understand or could know. Am I crazy?
That's one of the two ideas the film brought up that I thought seemed really obvious and needed to be developed more. I don't think Thanos is a hero, but it's more complicated than him just being the villain.
I saw a lot of people didn't like Eternals, my kids included, but I really liked it. I liked the mythology and how they plug their lives into real events, the little twists of betrayal, visuals, etc. It wasn't the greatest, but it was FAR from being the worst film made. Maybe if people saw it again they'd like it ( I had to with Shang-Chi and now I love it)
this is a harder movie to grasp so I get kids not really being into it. I feel like a lot of people are going to sleep on it for a while than it will grow on people and suddenly become a fav
I agree. As Shang-Chi was a slight hybridized nod to films like 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' by way of its cinematography, while it's rumored that the next Doctor Strange will act slightly as a horror film, I felt that Eternals had a cinematographically-'epic' feel like that of Noah; which makes sense being that the storyline intertwines with human existence and creation. I didn't understand why younger audiences didn't like it as much until I watched it and it made sense why, being that it's not the exact feel of Marvel movies of past where it's led by action dependent on CGI, hints of quirkiness, and a certain pace.
I didn't as much... People say this felt somewhat different to an MCU film but not really... That's the most MCU thing they could have done right then and there
@@saundz8791 I think they meant the whole thing of Crow not being the final villain like many thought. Ikaris also just killing himself was something many didn't expect.

@@mr-rush-gaming8800 It's them having 'programming glitches' where they start to slightly remember and get confused over 'past life' memories. Originally it was like a disease caused by the Eternals having human minds and living for so many thousands of years it could cause them to go nuts from acquiring so much knowledge.
I love the way this film used well-designed “eternal” machines to explore deep questions about humanity. The best moment- in regards to this allegory- was Sprite tearfully asking, “why did Arishem make me this way?” The film does a great job of analyzing religion and faith without actually mentioning religion at all.
Yeah it’s definitely a lot deeper than the average McU movie and doesn’t treat its audience like they’re children, probably why it’s getting the reaction it is
Yeah and Phastos yells I wouldn’t change anything about me to ikaris and it feels subtle enough. Like we know what’s being said but about something else ya know?
The infinity saga had literally 20+ films just to showcase the snap. But Eternals posed a far bigger threat than the snap in just one movie which had been developing since earth's creation. That's the reason why it's taking time to digest the plot. P.S. Its visually the best MCU movie so far tho.
That’s why it’s crazy that they packed it all in one movie. I feel like some of the Eternals should’ve been introduced prior to this, even just casually
@@bigwill-gc7su idk some scenes definitely needed a little more work on like the deviants but I legitimately felt the cgi was really well done. Shang Chi tho definitely had the better shots, everything in that movie felt like a dance so just great choreography. This movie however felt like it was cinematic . That’s my thoughts on it tho.
I really loved this movie cause even with all the cosmic apocalyptic giants and stuff it actually feels like one of the most 'human' marvel stories to date
I love how this movie basically redefined the MCU while also clarifying other parts, especially on a cosmic level. It also makes me think of how Thanos may have been mostly right in the end (the means is still atrocious). We still don’t know if everything Arishem was true. Also-is Thanos and Eros another Loki-Thor situation, or are they actually blood siblings like in the comics? Because if they are siblings by blood, then we can safely assume he’s a mutated Eternal, and I have a guess why. The movie explained that Eternals are basically the second created beings by Arishem, using the lessons learned from the ever-evolving Deviants to create a non-changing race to help wipe out the Deviants. What if Titan (Thanos and Eros’ home planet) was another planet with sentient life that was seeded by the Celestials, but instead of complying the Titan Eternals rebelled against their purpose. They lived on Titan along with the natives, and used their cousin Deviants as a means to cure themselves of their impotence. Which is how children of Eternals like Eros and Thanos are possible, and why Thanos somehow resembles a Skrull except purple (because Skrulls are descended from Deviants on their home planet). I would love it if this was true!
Yo!! That makes more sense! I had the same question as you. About how Thanos could be eternal if they were synthetic. So that makes sense that he could be an eternal mirrored after the people of titan but mutated. Definitely hope we get answers on that.
In the comics the eternals and the deviants would fight over a planet. Which ever won that fight would dictate how the sentient beings evolved. Deviants weren't four-legged monsters in the comics though. Thanos is an eternal born with a deviant gene. Sounds familiar?
I think a Thor-Loki situation fits more in the MCU, so the Titans would be a race that looks like Thanos, and he could have been adopted by the Eternals of his planet, who had rebelled as well. Although they could easily explain it in other ways, like the Titans being the offspring of Eternals who managed to reproduce perhaps by using deviant genes. Titans cannot be pure Eternals though, it wouldn’t make sense, as Thanos was said to be around 1000 years old.
Phastos definitely created Shang Chi's ring and is responsible for the distress beacon they emit warning of the Celestials Judgment or asking to be saved. I got Terra/Aqua/Venmus vibes
i dont think it was phastos because the next movie of shang chi will be release first than eternal i supposed because one is a big a hit and the other is in process to know the result, but the point is phasto right now is getting judgement from the celestial and the beacon is in process with shang chi so i doubt they will wait to phasto to come out of that situation to bring it to shang chi movie after that. I think the rings owner is kang. kang use powerful artifact to fight like we saw in loki and the comics so it will make sense. i think the rings use quantum energy to power up and also that is why give the owner eternity.
Fun connection for the emerald tablet: mythologically it's considered by the ancient Greeks to be written by Hermes (associated with the Egyptian god Thoth), who is associated with the Roman god Mercury, who in Marvel is nominally connected to the Eternal Makkari who's searching for it.
10:17 another possibility for arishem's scratched and rotting armour could be Knull, god of the symbiotes who was angered by the celestials disturbing the abyss by creating the universe, angering knull enough so that he would sever a celestials head and use it to temper his blade.

something I also haven’t really seen mentioned is that I LOVE how all the humans react to finding out their loved one is an eternal - like Dane and Phasto’s husband - which is to say, they don’t really react because it’s not world ending news. Which is refreshing to me going into phase 4 that we aren’t really spending time having to see humans react widely to other beings - that absolutely just makes sense story wise given everything that has happened up to this point. And it really worked for me because while learning about the eternals themselves isn’t being news, it allows us as the audience to really think critically about ideas of ethics, mortality, humanity, and purpose. And with the introduction of celestials - THAT is something that deserves a larger reaction to. It calls into question everything we’ve ever known
I 100% agree with this. This is why I love this movie. And I find it a shame that shallow people who can’t understand the emotion and humanity that went into this film, say it’s bad because it didn’t have all the no brainier fighting the whole way through. I love the fact it’s different
That actually bothered me a little at first. I didn't want to see any over reactions, but felt like they were a bit too calm. Then remembered that present day is after the events with Thanos, so it makes perfect sense that most humans probably wouldn't be too shocked.

When Phastos said that he needed bracelets to unite everyone's minds into the unimind, I was 90% certain it was going to be the Ten Rings. Like, there were originally 10 eternals, so i assumed they were the ones to bring the ten rings from outer space/domo. But they somehow lost the rings/bracelets, and phastos was saying "we need to find them now" But to my disappointement, he just created the bracelets on the spot. Oh well...
to be fair, phastos probably made a lot of those rings during his time on earth. he probably lost soem and they found their way to the hands of shang chi's dad.
@@abr4xas if I remember correctly, Wong said ythe ten rings were older than the earth itself, so it's possible an Eternal from a different planet made them.
I disagree with #33 at 29:50. Just after Sersi says that Tiamut joined the “Uni-Mind” Phastos says something about the Eternals joining with the Celestials during the Emergence being the explanation for why they survive planet ending events. So I don’t think they meant to say that Tiamut was OK with dying to save humanity.
You're right about what Phastos said. Also just something I picked up reading one of the comic runs was that Tiamat didn't agree in principle with what Arishem and the other Celestials were doing and they put him to sleep imprisoned inside earth. I hope this is explored because I don't believe Arishem is telling the entire truth to the Eternals.
I’m not fluent enough in marvel to really understand what exactly was being set up for the MCU in the Eternals but as a stand alone film I really loved it. I’m a sucker for beautiful scenes, character struggles, and moral dilemmas.
I can't believe he didn't understand that DRUIG, was likely loosely translated to DRUID, as he lived in the woods, and as Druids had magickal control over nature, DRUIG had the ability to control THE NATURE OF MEN. Also Druids often protected nature from civilizational progress, and DRUIG in this movie often wanted to control the minds of men to give them civility instead of war, which can be viewed as a type of protection of the nature of men, as Druids protected nature FROM men. All very easily changed in one bad translation or a historical game of Telephone over a millenia of time. Just saying, I can't believe this wasn't picked up on, because he did such a swell job in naming the other historical figures that closely represented by the Eternals throughout history.

Same. I thought Sersi turned him into ice & I was like....what have you done Sersi? making a huge ice in the middle of the Indian ocean, it's going to melt & flood the coastlines! Turn out it was marble. Lol.
Something that just occurred to me was that when Icarus & Sersi were married but didn’t procreate over the 5,000 years they were together. Backing up the idea that they might not be able to because they’re not organic beings.
Which begs the question: how is Eros-an Eternal-related to Thanos? Thanos doesn’t look like an Eternal, but I think he and his Eternal colony world of Titan may have found a way, by crossing with Deviants. Deviants can evolve, Eternals cannot. This makes the Titan Eternals capable of procreation, but with the side-effect where they have Deviant genes like Thanos.
@@JTLI90 That's possible yeah. Zuras' wife could have had the Deviant-gene and that's how it came into Thanos. Maybe instead of eradicating Deviants, they became allies and married each other etc.

Two things:
1) Are Shang Chis 10 rings Eternals technology??
2) The ikaris and mikari fight was dope! Like the flash fighting superman
There were 10 eternals and 10 rings coincidence? They did have have rings around their arms at the end of the movie to fight the celestial
The 10 rings, in the comics, were created by the alien dragon race known as the Makluans. Look up Fing Fang Foom.
I was just surprised Arishem didn't react in anger to them preventing the emergence. It's like he respected their determination and ability enough to at least consider sparing humanity, which is cool.
Probably is a little scared of their capabilities as well.
Tiamut was killed and that's that, while he will be angry about this, punishing humanity would be outside his interest
probably a ton of other celestials so tiamut specifically really didn't care
His lack of anger makes him more scary imo
The change of pace was exactly what made this movie feel so refreshing. The way they revealed Ikaris's betrayal was done so well that for me this was the first time I felt bad for the "villain".
Nah bruh that shit was corny and lame as hell, him betraying them was a weak excuse for the story not having an actual antagonist.
I really loved this movie cause even with all the cosmic apocalyptic giants and stuff it actually feels like one of the most 'human' marvel stories to date
Totally agree
Didn't read
Phastos definitely created Shang Chi's ring and is responsible for the distress beacon they emit warning of the Celestials Judgment or asking to be saved. I got Terra/Aqua/Venmus vibes
Yeah but it wasn’t a distress beacon it was a tracking beacon that the owner of the rings was using to find them.
@Alex unless the alien dragons are deviants
The moment he mentioned rings I got ten rings flashback
i dont think it was phastos because the next movie of shang chi will be release first than eternal i supposed because one is a big a hit and the other is in process to know the result, but the point is phasto right now is getting judgement from the celestial and the beacon is in process with shang chi so i doubt they will wait to phasto to come out of that situation to bring it to shang chi movie after that. I think the rings owner is kang. kang use powerful artifact to fight like we saw in loki and the comics so it will make sense. i think the rings use quantum energy to power up and also that is why give the owner eternity.
@Alex no, it’s not possible. This is just dumb.

10:17 another possibility for arishem's scratched and rotting armour could be Knull, god of the symbiotes who was angered by the celestials disturbing the abyss by creating the universe, angering knull enough so that he would sever a celestials head and use it to temper his blade.

This movie is far from perfect, but I appreciate how many risks Marvel took and the level of ambition to bring this story to the big screen.
Just because risks were taken, and ambition was shown, that means we have to like the outcome?? No no no...you may like the movie, but at least spout that bs to someone who doesnt know any better. D&D took risk and showed ambition to bring us season 8 without source material, so by your logic we should appreciate their work?? The Eternals could have been brought to the screen with writers and a production crew who actually cared about the source material and its fan base, instead of caring more about checking off boxes with woke agendas, and crap story telling, in all to make a buck off the Marvel tag and well known/liked Actors and Actresses.

I'm not arguing Eternals was better or even equal, but I don't think the gap was huge. I don’t think one film being received well and another not being received well don’t have a connection. It’s just that they were released around the same time. If they came out two years apart and got the same results, you likely wouldn’t be comparing them?
For entertainment value, I do see Dune as a better movie. But they are quite similar -from the blocky spaceships and a lot of world building. But Eternals was not a bad movie. Or I set my expectations really low with all the mixed reviews.

The Blue Whale skeleton is there in place of Dippy the Diplodocus which is a complete Diplodocus Skeleton that is currently on tour across Europe I believe and the Blue Whale is there in place of that for a little bit!
I wondered for a moment if it really was a Deviant skeleton. Humans mistook it for a whale skeleton.
One thing I will give them props is to the sets especially of ancient times. It showed parts of our world that don't honestly get more on screen time, well not in the scale this does. It was nice to see a slightly better varied and balanced look at history. It wasn't all Egypt and Greece (as much as I'd like the 3ds models of those places too.
Also no one in any history department around the world has budget to recreate, in 3d, the city of babylon the way they did. They skimped a little inside i think but it was still beautiful. So for a look at history I thank them.

something I also haven’t really seen mentioned is that I LOVE how all the humans react to finding out their loved one is an eternal - like Dane and Phasto’s husband - which is to say, they don’t really react because it’s not world ending news.
