      I may or may not have a problem "letting go". I can declutter just fine but then get stuck with finding homes for stuff. Somedays, no problem, put stuff out on the curb and by the end of the day it's often all gone. I can barely remember what I even put out there. Currently I have stuff in a room that I don't care about but I also am having trouble with it moving on. If you asked me what is there I could maybe name an item or two and yet there it sits.

    I wholeheartedly agree. People fail to realize that you can't undo struggles or behavior that you've been practicing for YEARS in one week. It takes time. Decluttering just for the aesthetic isn't going to cut it.

    Minimalist problems: having friends over and there's nowhere to sit, because you sold all the chairs.

    • @writegirl2937
      @writegirl2937 5 лет назад +22

      raksh9 If having your friends over brings you joy and especially if they are people who bring value into your life, then having nowhere for them to sit comfortably negates the idea of being a minimalist. Heck, get a few chairs and enjoy your friends!😊

    • @carolellamuch9571

      Im beginning to think I'm a minimalist but am not sure. Do they not have couches or chairs for company? I do have one couch..and a lounge chair but I keep my rooms kind of sparse. (My mother once chided that my home is like a museum although I think she meant lounge room. I don't prefer couch sets.. like with the matching love seats.. nor do I want more than the one chair. My family, grandkids, friends, sit on either my couch..or chair. I just got this way in the past year or so.

    When I was 18 and living on a $10,000 income I was a minimilist... How? I had a phone with no internet, I rented a bedroom with bathroom for $500. I had a twin bed , a microwave and a small fridge. I owned 2 pairs of shoes , about 10 outfits. I lived on microwavable veggies, ramen noodles and once a day I would eat a $3 jerk chicken sandwich for lunch at my favorite Jamaican joint. I paid about $300 a month for health insurance. My weekly bus pasd was about $11 a week, so no car for me. I always made sure to save a minimum of $100 per paycheck. on top of that I was paying for college myself taking as much classes as I could afford ( took me 10 years to finish college but I'm debt free). Through all this I managed to travel to Europe once a year to visit family by buying tickets on low seasons. everything is possible when there is will.

    I’m nearing 60. Looking back on all the things We’ve accumulated and the mindset growing up after WWII and the fast pace of the Business and profit mindset. Always had problems with where to store things and organize them. But Now, Slowly getting rid of things after experiencing parents deaths and dealing with all their stuff, we don’t want our children to go through what we experienced.

    • @saksma22
      @saksma22 5 лет назад +1

      I agree with the struggle of course..it's what we all struggle with when we're old and death becomes increasingly real...not a distant, barely imaginable event.
      At the same time, an important percentage of the things you've accumulated are not just objects; they are part of who you are, especially if they've belonged to people you've loved who are no longer. The question of what to do with them or what will become of them is laden with emotion. When someone does, a universe dies with them..much more than can be held in the memories of survivors. It's a stage of life that makes minimalism...so valuable a concept in itself...excruciatingly difficult.

    This is great..I was led on this minamalist path via spiritual journey, learning that everything I truly need is already inside of me and that the reason human nature seeks most material things is because human nature seeks validation from the material world to fill the void inside that comes from not truly knowing ones self due to programming and conditioning of the ego..Spirit self and Ego are two different Beings and I learned that until we truly get to know ourselves as our true spiritual nature..we will identify with the ego and the desires of the ego, which are never ending..i.e materialism..this is a rare path in the U.S, which has conditioned our egos for consumerism..commercialism..
    and capitolism..

      I am right there with you...but 3 babies, 20+ pounds, and mid 40’s. The struggle is real, friend! I can make one encouraging comment...as I have been working to declutter my life, self worth and love seem to follow...along with lightening my clutter, weight seems to come off little by little too! I think when we are less defeated in areas and have more success it seems to flow into other areas of our life! I think you will find the same truth so chin up and keep up the good work!

    I am not concerned about what others think. I was raised in a family who valued things more than people and I am the complete opposite. My biggest challenge is feeling discouraged I accumulated so much stuff and over bought items. I wished I figured this out earlier. But I am making progress and learning to be kinder to myself.

    Sometimes letting go just “happens” to us. I lost my home and all the contents that I had collected for years. It was a mental and an emotional challenge. I look back now and I realized didn’t NEED any of those things. There is freedom in keeping things simple.

    I’m a minimalist too, and agree with all of your points. Letting go isn’t a struggle for me anymore: fear of letting go is usually caused by a scarcity mindset. Whether it involves money, women, valuable stuff or professional opportunities: I try to see these through a lens of abundance. Whenever a door closes its entry for you, at least one other if not many more doors will lead you to new paths in life. By removing excessive stuff and people from our lives, we will all govern our own little world with the patience, love and respect which those who are happily part of our world truly deserve.

    I don't care what others think about what I do, as they are not paying my bills. I really don't care for lots of stuff...I do like clothes. I like comfy clothes that I look great in. That is important to me. I like good cooking pans and bake ware to help me make healthy meals. Comfy bed and lazy boy recliner is important to me to rest. I can get along without things that I would have to dust, clean and keep track of. So don't have any clutter on shelves or counters tops. Just simple and easier to clean home. Not many books, as I read them and donate or give away. I no longer visit my local public library, as they have bedbugs and I will not risk getting those bugs in my home. I buy new books from Amazon and pass them on. Gotta see how to do Kindle or e books. Take care. Cheers.😁

    I had not noticed how crowded my apartment was until I took my early retirement. I had never thought about all of those (harmless) outings with my friends to shop as anything more than a stress reliever. However, a few months at home was when I realized that I had multiple copies of the same things in different colors but had mis-laid (lost) them in the mess in my closets and dresser-drawers. That was when I began to donate to churches, homeless shelters and women’s shelters. I had clothing in three different sizes, handbags of every kind and for every occasionand I knew it was just too much. I just want to say that watching your videos is helpful and thank you for making them.

    Words cannot express how much joy I feel after watching this video. To answer your question, one of the hardest things that I’ve struggled with is the support from family. Mom: “Here take these bags, plants, clothes, etc.” or “Well why don’t you have ‘x,y,z’ or watch ‘a,b,c’.” And quite frankly, the truth is that materialism disgusts me! I am so cautious and aware of what I feed my mind and spirit, and what I bring into my home. There’s a sense of peace in the benefits of minimalism, that only a small percentage of us understand. So, kudos to you, and blessings on your journey. You’ve absolutely gained a new subscriber.

    its so refreshing to see a black minimalist. I wouldn't say that I am a minimalist. But I only have things that bring me joy, that have more than one use and I think about how my consumption affects the environment. So, I don't indulge in fast fashion, I don't buy prepacked food (fruits or veggies especially. They come in a lot of plastic), and I try to only eat at home. But I would like to eventually become an extreme minimalist. Its the simplicity and mindfulness of it that attracts me to it.

    I got depressed.
    The first 2 months were cool, I actually loved removing so much. It was wonderful!!!
    Then the lack of “things” started weighing down on me. I started to feel anxious. Feeling like something was about to happen but I didn’t know what it was... I was constantly waiting.... on something.....
    Usually I would get lost in my “stuff”. Without stuff to wander to, I didn’t know what to do with myself.
    I didn’t know what I could comfortably buy. I didn’t purchase items that I really needed because mentally I was trying not to buy “stuff” anymore. I was a mess!!!
    Now I’m back to more clutter than I had before I minimized. I dont have anxiety like I did then. But now I’m just disappointed at myself when I look and my new “collection” of stuff. 😕

    • @RonaldLBanks
      @RonaldLBanks  5 лет назад +4

      It sounds like you’re missing your “why” and you didn’t quite have a goal and values set after you’ve declutter. Your why is important because it helps you stay focus on why you want to do something. Your goals and values help you stay on that path going forward. If you ever feel inspired to try again. Go at a slower pace and start with your why before you declutter anything! I hope that helps you. Keep growing!

    First time tuning in. Love your tone and your philosophy :)
    I’m on a journey to minimalism and my biggest struggle is really letting go ...

      Letting go is definitely different than decluttering and it can hard. But when you do it really changes things! I’m happy that you’re loving my videos Véronique. Keep growing on your journey!

    This young man is a voice of the beautiful movement in the black community. For YEARS things have killed us! We don’t have a car, live in section 8, and can’t pay for our kids school lunches, but hey, we got jordans. Or our kids got new xboxes last year. And how about the new iPhone. Thank you thank you and thank you. Continue to speak young man, don’t change and don’t sell out!

    Love the part about what adds value. It's very helpful for me to know I have the most essential things to feel secure when I let go of what I don't need. Would like to hear more on letting go :)

    Love this, I am also working on minimalism and it has opened me up to so much, it's been over a year now and it's freeing, and also it doesn't bother me with how much I actually have, it's quite the journey. Nice video
