A Minimalist is one who does the least to yield to most.
I like to sum being a minimalist up as living with as little as possible. So then need dictates how minimal a person can go/get. When it comes to the things one needs, then of course get quality, if the usage dictates it. Being a minimalist is also as much about being an efficient spender. eg: Eating healthier choices will cost you more upfront no doubt. But eating healthier also saves you expensive medical bills later down the road. Instead of only thinking you are paying more for food, retrain the brain to acknowledge that you are paying for not only food but for ongoing natural medical care plus gain the benefit of good health.

Minimize your spending, debt and rent. If you're renting save to own. Once you have a little house with s little yard you can save money by:
Hanging your clothes on the line to dry
Washing your own car in the driveway
Build a greenhouse and grow your own veggies year round
Set up a tent, tiki torches and bbq... enjoy a "staycation" day several times a year in your own backyard
    You get it...

In Europe it is not so important to

in a high education, happy experiences and having a healthy

Thank you for tailoring your clothing. Its a dying art (getting your clothes made for you and a time for socialization even) that is a skill learned and never mastered through out life. As a tailor myself I really appreciated that. It really needs to happen more. I love making peoples clothes fit and watching them thrive on it. That actually used to be the only way people got there clothes was from tailoring or making yourself (another form of tailoring I guess you can say) and well I realize that is not coming back exactly, but there should be more people taking their clothes and going to a tailor to fit them at least.

I started my journey 2 years ago. The sense of peace & contentment you get is so rewarding. I value experiences & time over possessions which has increased my faith & increased my giving. I challenge myself every month to give more. I also paint & clean as a side hustle. After seeing the dirtiness under the surface stuff , which doesn’t look bad, I am grossed out by how filthy homes really are. My husband & I are facing aging parents & all their stuff. I do not want to put my kids in that position of dealing with my stuff one day.
I watch Forensic Files and when I see crime scene photos & see all the stuff in those photos, I know I’d be freaked out if that was my mess on TV. Crazy thought I know!
Lastly, living in rural America, I’d be horrified if the ambulance or fire department had to come in my home & it was a mess!
You are such a positive person as most who live minimal are - focused on the right stuff!

I’ve been so hesitant to take them to get tailored because I keep telling myself “They’re just pants,” and I feel like I’ll be wasting money if I do. Hearing another minimalist talk about exactly that really opened my eyes and gave me the green light to go get them tailored, especially since they’re my clothes and I want them to fit how I please.

I honestly didn't like the idea of it at first, but two years later I'm really starting to consider it! There really is something to say about how freeing it is for people to let go of material things! Might be a little hard for me, as I am a carpenter / general construction contractor and have a lot of tools, but going to start looking on minimizing on other things to get started!

For you it may not include reducing carpentry related stuff, maybe organizing and giving it a better space for you to do carpentry might be involved as you realize it's significance to you. I think the minimalist idea appeals to more ppl than are actually practicing it because they think they aren't "allowed" to buy anything once they've started discarding when really, each person can manifest their own, individual idea of minimalism that works for them...and they're going to have to buy things.

I just discovered your channel and as someone Kondoing my space it's great to watch others on this journey. I've been into aromatherapy for 15 years and have amassed quite a lot of recipes for natural body care products. A great homemade beard oil - jojoba oil as base, tea tree and lime essential oil. Jojoba is moisturizing without being too oily (it's actually a plant wax). Tea tree is naturally antibacterial and good to prevent dryness. Lime oil is uplifting and fresh.

That’s super cool! If you’re looking for samples, check out Eden Botanicals and AV-AT. Plant Therapy and Edens Garden are great as well. There are so many great companies out there. I’ve found out a lot from Aromatherapy and Beyond on FB. I’m in some BST groups and well and that’s been great too. I put up an ISO search for some oils from PT and EG since they don’t do samplesand got 1-2ml decants. It’s perfect! I can try the oils, save money, and don’t end up with oils I hate. Oh and for carriers, try Lipid Lovers: Home of the Real OIls on FB. Rainforest Chica is great for South American ones and 3CayG is great for African and South American ones.

Just discovered the channel this evening. I enjoy what I'm seeing.
If you're into making your own beard oil, etc., here's another tip I found a few years ago when trying to travel more minimally: DIY solid cologne.
All you need is some beeswax, your cologne and a small tin. You should be able to find these things where you buy your oils. I find mine at Whole Foods.
    1) In a small saucepan on low heat, melt enough wax to fill the tin you're looking to use.
    2) Once melted, spritz a few squirts of your cologne into the wax. (Or don't. The gals seem to kind of like the honey-like beeswax scent as well.)
    3) Pour the wax into the tin and allow to cool.
Now you have cologne in a much smaller container than the bottle takes up, and you can take it when you travel without worrying about a bottle breaking in your luggage. To apply, I just scrape the back of a fingernail on it and rub it in at the usual pulse points.
People often recommend using the mini Altoid tins. They're a great size but I found it very difficult to scrub the peppermint scent out. If your store has unused small tins, go with those.
This obviously does not solve the dilemma of having cologne bottles taking up space in your home/apartment. One solution is to not buy any to begin with. I'm not necessarily going to encourage this, but a person COULD invest in a few very small containers, go to a department store that has scents you like (some of which may be more than you wish to spend on some smell-good) and deliver a few spritzes into those containers to put into the wax at home.
Yes. It's shady. It's also a few hundred dollars less than actually buying Creed Aventus.
    Take care.

I also hire a housekeeper 2 to 4 times a year to come and just deep clean my house. I clean so much at work and at home :I really don't want to do the deep clean on top of that. It has proven to be very useful and not as expensive as I thought it would be! People often say "I can't afford that" 8r "that is too much of a luxury for me" when they haven't actually checked what a service really cost: they are just Makin the assumption. I did too in the past but then when I checked it wasn't as bad as I thought

    • @AWanderingEye

I would imagine the first deep clean would be the most expensive so I would work with them, but each season after that it should go fairly quickly esp. with a minimalist household AND regular tidying up. Less build up that way and easier /faster to do tasks.

Nicely done. After purging 80% of what I own, I began to only get high quality items. This doesn’t mean more expensive in all cases, just more mindful.
I did recently invest in a Barbour Ashby jacket which is a bit more, but it’s so verities and will last me forever.
Also tailoring is excellent. I own one suit (a mid-dark Grey suit tailored to resemble a Thom Browne suit). I use it for all occasions.
