It took a long time but seeing Ash finally win a championship was genuinely heartwarming

Although I think ash’s victory over gladion was kinda forced but his battle with kukui definitely redeemed that for me
I do admit "Counter the Counter" does sound pretty stupid but I think it works. Counter in and of itself is an attack so naturally it can be Countered. It may not work like that in the games but neither does Electroweb working like a trampoline.

I mean it was technically Guzma’s own fault for Golisopod letting Scizor take the fall. It’s his responsibility as a trainer to know when Emergency Exit will activate.
It's the ability emergency exit.
A Pokémon’s actions define the trainer. He should’ve known by now emergency exit would come into play.
But the way they set it up made Golisopod look evil. Its like Guzma wasn't the one controlling his Pokemon but Golisopod is the one in charge who decides who goes out and fights.
Ash doing a Kamehameha as the move to literally confirm the end of his career (outside of that champion league thing) may be the best iteration of anime characters doing a Kamehameha
Just remember, the time between Ash starting his journey to Alola is only about 3 months because in Journeys, Kukui and Burnette have a whole ass child in between the time of Sun and Moon and journeys, which takes 9 months. Ash is still 10 by the end of journeys, so he did all of the stuff between Kanto and Alola in 3 months, or less

Same difference isn't Charizard was sleeping in the arena because it didn't care about battling causing the loss it was an extended period of him doing nothing which led to the disqualification.
Rowlet was down for long enough that the judge could make the judgement that it was unable to battle due to literally being unconscious hence should have still been a disqualification as rowlet still made the choice to sleep for an extended period of time instead of fighting.

The power level of this league seems ridiculously low compared to other regions. I feel like Ash from Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos, Iris, Paul, Gary, May, and a couple other characters I'm forgetting coulda won this league.

4:09 I'm just here to keep record of this, that BOMBACLATTT followed by Hau complaining about Hala's call while Ash is waking up Rowlett is hilarious.
I really like this League. Except for Gladion vs. James we got to see every battle. I get that people are bummed that it was mostly 1v1s and the finals was a 3v3 but I think what helps it is that all 3 of Ash and Gladion's Pokemon were are relevant. A lot of the time, Pokemon will be there just to be there and fill things out. There are exceptions of course but then you have cases like Alain where I love that battle, but let's be honest, you're there for Charizard, Greninja and maybe also Pikachu putting up MVP numbers. Here we have Melmetal who just evolved, Silvally who is pretty important to a plot point of the Aether Family, Pikachu (no explanation needed), Mohn's Zoroark and the culmination of Lycanroc's story. Plus it was still very entertaining and there wasn't really a dull moment. I say it's a great closer follwed by the awesome closure of Ash vs Kukui which I hope I doesn't need its greatness explained. I will admit the criticism against Ash vs Hau is fair though but don't pretend that "earlier series wouldn't fumble like this" when Tobias' and his acton replay are standing right there.

This comment explained my one nitpick with Ash-Greninja. The transformation itself was fine, and it's battles were great, but it ultimately meant that most of Ash's battles moving forward would become "In what order will Ash's other Pokémon go down before Greninja clutches the win?" I don't mind a trainer having an ace Pokémon, but it does mean the battles can get a bit predictable when said ace has a Mega Evolution or an exclusive Z-Move.
Again, I still love Ash-Greninja. It was a hype and memorable thing for a lot of people. It just came with an unfortunate formula, and it's why I'm glad the Alola League avoided that for the most part, because a lot of the battles with all sorts of Pokémon mattered.

Meanwhile, Ash's opponents in the championships: Either cheating or having fully stacked teams.
