The funny thing about ash is that i realized when binging that almost every league he'll lose to the last minute person he meets right before the tournament no matter how dumb they are.

2 things:
1. Fire does neutral to ground.
2. I think the anime just hate Turtle mons such as Torkoal and Torterra which is why they get the most L's

The Hoenn league is the one league where it didn’t feel like they were actively trying to make him lose, and despite him making lots of dumb decisions he also made lots of good ones.
Sinnoh was where they actually actively have ash loose like Tobias came outta nowhere ..... Like we were so focused on Paul and then Tobias was shown as if he was important while we never see anything about him nor any rumors about someone having a darkrai for that matter.
Unova they really being making Ash lose way early than expected (Even in 2 Gyms battle where Ash forgot to put Pikachu in his team forgetting how to count, and making a 6 Ash Pokemon v 3 Unova Gym battle losing to a Koffing), especially with the boy way dumber than Unova Ash for a comedy relief that doesn't know how to count about Gym badges and the battle against Ash on 5v5 thinking was a full battle (That is the worst way to lose a battle, if they want to Ash to lose aleast makes him lose to Bianca, The guy with Eeveelution team, Stephan or Even Trip his main rival since it only got 1v1 and Ash barely won that)

Gotta love anime logic: Regular characters can't jump a ledge higher than their knees in the games, but Ash is able to defy all natural laws of gravity.

The confusion is understandable though since a LOT of Ground type are paired with Rock type which is Fire resistant.
When your Fire type gets bodied a bunch of times by an Onyx or a Geodude, your trauma is taking notes.

About Pikachu vs Dugtrio: I remember the fight against Iris and her Escadrill in Black&White where Ash uses Thunderbolt, despite he knews PERFECTLY that it haven't effect on Ground Type, and explain that he and Pikachu uses ALWAYS Thunderbolt because it is their characteristic move! LOL
I absolutely love the "Friendly hanshake" of Corphish to Golduck :D. That was the moment where Ash defeated Katie, because she was totaly messed up by that cringe twist XD
Somebody said that Ash had to let Morrison get disqualifield.... and this is a big absurdity! Yep, Ash in the end won the fight by a narrow margin, but this is the way that Ash wanted. Despite his flaws he is very loyal and sporty, and expecialy Ash want defeated, or lose, against his rivals in a true fight!

In the end I don't dislike this league, some battles (es. against Dominick) were not written very well (Corphish suffered too many super-effective attacks) but I enjoyed myself :)

Note: Ground is neutral to Fire damage. And in Marowak's case, it's still hitting its inferior Special Defense stat. Flamethrower would indeed be the optimal play here.
Type matchups not working in the anime like they do in games wouldn't bother me much if it was at least consistent within itself, but it isn't...
1 type matchup is pretty consistent. Water type almost NEVER beats fire type, going as far back as Ash's Charizard vs Gary's Blastoise and as recent as Leon's Charizard vs Lance's Gyarados.

To be fair with Dugtrio, he most likely had the Arena trap ability. So Ash wouldn’t have been able to Switch Pikachu out. No excuse for Morrison’s Steelix though.

I didn't watch the episode, but was Brock the one to expose them as frauds? If not, that's a HUGE missed opportunity. He can even tell which Jenny's and Joy's are from which towns. So it would make 100% sense that he could spot a fake.
