The writers made peak with Ash vs Paul, then remembered that there were at least 2 rounds left so they cobbled together a guy who got an action replay from his mom to make sure Ash didn't win. But aside from that and them cutting Quilava's only battle evolved (bro did not put in the work in Johto for this), this was a very good League. I always juggle between this, Kalos and Alola weighing their pros and cons but all 3 were pretty goated to me.

One thing I like about Tobias is that his Latios had a noticeable personality. Darkrai's only purpose was to sweep teams but Latios is a showoff who loves to make an entrance and he had a gentle smile at the end of the battle which shows that Pikachu earned his respect by going head to head with him.
They should have had Tobias use Darkrai, Latios and Latias but the rest of his Pokemon were non-Legendaries. Have his Starter Pokemon be a Zoroark who's mated with his Ninetales, so he likes to use Illusion to take her form. That way, Tobias still doesn't use his entire team to beat Ash into the ground but we technically would have seen 5 of his Pokemon.
The Inspector Joy in the Japanese only bonus episode had a Latias
Honestly Tobias should've had a gen 5 starter or a Haxorus (considering it was designed when Platinum was in development) in the back to tease Black and White like how Harrison had a Blaziken in the Johto anime.

@@hardawayplayedgamesBack in DP the writers were still gatekeeping evolutions and pseudo legendaries. In-universe the justification was probably that gible was caught really late and didn't have time to train enough to evolve. You know what pseudo legendary evolutions are like, they take FOREVER

Nah cause I loved Paul, like he was an actual good competition. Like not to say Gary was bad and we don't talk about Unova or Johto. But like Gary was hating for no reason, like weren't ya'll childhood friends or something, ya'll can have a friendly competition. He does improve later on but so did Paul. I do agree man beefing over really nothing. But that battle definitely fire. Tobias was just built different, I think it was confirmed his whole team were legendries.
