@Gamfluent I don't hate him, but they made him too overpowered in the anime. Like his battle with Diantha was TRASH cuz how is a champion with a Pokemon that's not even your ace soloing another experienced champion's team? Don't even get me started on how he practically one-shot Alain's Charizard. Yeah, I was expecting Alain to lose, but not like that considering Alain's insane feats with his Charizard and even battled Steven at one point and was quite even as well. This is also the same Charizard that had ten battles against mega evolved Pokemon back-to-back with no breaks with the last opponent being an elite four member's ace and him still winning.

Not gonna lie, Cynthia was on demon timing when it came to Ash. Spiritomb managing to use Destiny Bond on Pikachu was a 300 IQ move on her end simply because Cynthia _knows_ just how much of a threat Pikachu is, and she _not_ gonna let that thing stay on the battlefield.
And a psychological block to Ash as well
I like that even in the anime Cynthia is throwing "you can't catch this" type hands
What I love about Alola is that it made Pikachu the ace of his team with the addition of the Z move. Pikachu was always good, but legit got the power to beat any Pokémon he would face. Off top Cynthia took down his best weapon. 🔥
It's also a good way to let Pikachu lose without having him get overpowered. Pikachu only takes a few KOs during the last half of Journeys, so having the only one he takes in the tournament be a Destiny Bond that overrides his endurance lets him stay being a monster combatant
I also love how the battle plays into how well Ash and Cynthia know each other, out of all the Champions (aside from Iris obviously) she's definitely the one he's closest to and spent the most time with, so she *knows* how he battles and uses that against him, but Ash is still Ash and catches her off guard repeatedly during the match, so she can't predict what he's gonna do past the start.

Any Pokemon can Dynamax which just makes them huge but only some Pokemon get a Gigantamax, which changes their appearance (like a giant mega evolution basically) and gives them a special G-Max move (if they have a certain attack).

20:44: It's Dynamax for everyone, but some Pokemon can Gigantamax (e.g. Leon's Charizard, Ash's Pikachu and Gengar, several others in the games). Those that can Gigantamax have a special Gigantamax move that its respective-typed moves will turn into (for G-Max Charizard, Fire attacks turn into G-Max Wildfire).
gigantamaxing will also change the appearance of the pokemon

Fun fact(ish): Dracovish is one of four fossil pokemon from gen 8. The reason it looks and moves stupid is because you get the four different pokemon from mixing mismatched fossils. Dracovish literally has its head on the tip of its tail.

To be honest if Cynthia beat Tobias and his full team of mythical pokemon. She really is the 2nd strongest trainer after ash
Ima go over this more in the ash vs Leon vid but I personally feel like Cynthia would’ve been a better final boss instead of Leon. Take Leon out the tournament completely and replace him with Paul or sawyer and have Cynthia be the one ash beats in the final

@BrandonDTM cynthia has one of the best competitive teams out of any of the champions. just replace her with leon and id be happy. she deserves the center spot. leon lost to eternatus. cynthia didnt lose to cyrus or the box legendaries, she just lets the player go first and you capture them before she does. pokemon themselves have an entire short about leons perspective and memories of his brother and the player stopping the end of the world and how it negatively effects him before your champion battle in game.

1.) Sawyer, Paul or Alain do not have that level of feats that could put them on a higher pedestal than these champions. In fact, I believe any other Champion like Wallace or Alder should have replaced Alain. Or if they wanted to fit JN theme, put Raihan instead. Leon defeats him, so that doesn't break canon and it also shows that Raihan is a Champion level trainer. Paul is just overrated and it's just BS in my opinion how quickly he was able to train ace pokemon on the level of Champion.
2.) Cynthia doesn't have much character other than the fact that she likes Ice cream and is strong. That's it. Her only fans are rookie trainers who struggled against her. My Torterra deadass beat her entire team in Platinum and my Weavile destroyed her in BDSP.
Compare that to Leon who has feats that put him above Cynthia and has an actual character arc. Plus Tobias was plot device and there was no statement that he actually challenged the E4 or Cynthia. For all we know, he just defeated the Pokemon League and is now chilling on a beach in his farmhouse.

You know it would have been actually cool if anyone in the Masters 8 was written to be a competent battler and Ash using his old Pokemon like he SHOULD have been doing. Like seriously this is the “Best of the BEST!?!?!?” Fucking Paul was more of a fight than these chumps and that was goddamn 10 years ago!
i would love to see any of these trainers using manga levels of power. red himself got wiped by one of the kanto elite four, and all of the kanto elite four got wiped by lance. he defeated palkia with one dragonite for gods sake! and the whole point of his immense skill with dragon types is that its founded on his dragonite being able to control and change the trajectory of hyper beam to become homing.
diantha is one of the weakest present in the masters 8 in terms of previous anime strength, if this was manga levels of strength, she might not make it to top 8! if they had used the series to bring in characters from the manga (as they should have) she would likely get replaced by pryce (they could have taken the opportunity to show off his true strength in the anime, he beat up ho-oh enough to catch it with just a delibird and his swinub took out dialga)
it could have been an excellent opportunity to showcase the strength of some of the total monstrous trainers that exist in pokemon.
what would have been crazy (although it woud never happen) is if a manga dex holder showed up, or even have giovanni show up in the rocket airship and just say he was too strong for them to not allow him to be in the competition.
Last I remember, Paul got one-shotted by Cynthia in his introduction

Basically dynamax is when the pokemon grows in size but doesn’t change form like togekiss or dragonite, and giagantamax is when the form does change like ashes gengar and Leon’s rillaboom
Leon's fit is based off a soccer uniform, since Galar is based off the UK which LOVES soccer. And as such Galar gym battles are stadium battles that give the feel of a soccer match. And Leon is the champion of that region, so that's why everyone there's riding him since this is a home game for him
