    Hey Chad - I've been fishing for over 45 years and never stop learning. Great video. As reference, have several Shimano & Daiwa Baitcasters that I either use Mono backing or use a small piece of electrical tape. I have never had an issue with either of those methods. This year, once I get my reels back from maintenance, I will re-spool them all. I use the method of re-spooling braid from one reel to another every other year. This year is NEW braid year. I will try this arbor knot method to see how it goes. But I have never had electrical tape deteriorate. When I take the line off, the tape is still sticky and in good shape. Again, great tip and I look forward to trying it. 🎣

    Just came back to this video after cleaning and lubing a reel that I was about to give up on, I thought the drag was shot. I marked the reel with a marker and applied tension to the line and the spool didn't move but the line slid on the spool. Came back to rewatch and no more slip. Thanks Chad.

    Would love to fish with my Navy brother, when are you coming to Texas. Thanks for the braid-to-spool tip, I'll be using that going forward. I actually used a piece of tape on my first DC reel and when I went to re-spool it, I thought the spool was delaminating so I ordered another spool. After I received the new spool I took the old one off and realized it was the tape. Now I have one spooled with braid and one with flourocarbon.

    Few turns on the spool with some copolymer connected to braid with an Alberto knot and good to go imo. To each their own. Thanks for sharing!

    • @ChadHooverFishing
      @ChadHooverFishing  3 года назад +1

      You will still get potential slippage and you also have to tie more knots and the bulk of the Alberto knot causes the line to stack unevenly on the spool, which in many cases is the cause of backlashes for some people. But you are 100% right, if works for you, it works for you. My job on this channel is to share tips with people and hopefully help them avoid issues and frustration and get more out of their fishing experience.

      @@ChadHooverFishing well short answer is stupidity on my end , and honestly it was my first time touching a baitcaster so it was all new to me. The arbour knot confusef the first time i got it right on the second try. Then i realized I didnt pass the line through the reel guide. Undid it and passed it through the guide but not through the inside of the of reel so i couldn't put the spool back. Last thing was the extra loop knots , but i figured that out quickly. All in all I fully agree with you this is the best way to spool braid , mono backing and tapes are just bad ideas

  • @mikefurness1598
    @mikefurness1598 3 года назад +2

    I've always found that rubber bands work really well keeping my bulk spools of line on the spool. And I always have plenty of rubber bands skipping around because I use them for a lot of things.

    • @ChadHooverFishing
      @ChadHooverFishing  3 года назад +3

      The only downside to rubber bands is they break down and dry rot really easily and if you ever get them near anything Z-man they will cause a giant (and expensive) melt down mess.

    Been using this method since you showed it to use at Bienville years ago. Made my time on the water much more hassle free.
    Prefer the SLX DC to the Curado. Exact same braking system and costs less. The micromodule gears in the Curado don't offer any real on-water benefit and are more sensitive to wear and gear lash. The extra bearings in the reel are there to keep the smaller gear teeth from stripping not make the reel any smoother. I own several Curado DC reels, but had the SLX DC come out at the same time, I'd probably only own the first one that I bought to try out and the others would be SLX. My SLX DC is always on my frog rod and my Curado DC reels sit in a reel case.

      It’s exactly the same. I use line conditioner if I fish straight flouro, but I also don’t get those ringlets like you are talking about because I fish quite a bit, those usually happen when the rod sets up for a long time. And actually, I am talking to the “normal” fisherman and trying to save them time and money because most work a regular full time “normal” job and don’t have as much time to experiment with stuff, figure out how to solve those problems long term and share it with others.
