    Pretty cool little camera! I wouldn't call it a cinema camera since it's a fixed lens and also 8bit, but it is certainly cool and has its uses. I'd call this a compact camera similar to point and shoot but at a very small size. A real pocket cinema camera is probably the Sigma FP since it's close to its size, FF sensor, and 12bit Uncompressed RAW.

    • @Organalog
      @Organalog  9 месяцев назад +3

      I love this little camera, still amazed the quality it produces. 8 bit can work if you don’t push the image too much. I wish it was 10 bit though. There have been movies shot with 8 bit cameras that have shown in cinemas. That makes it a cinema camera to me.

    • @VENAXIS
      @VENAXIS 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@Organalog Unfortunately it wouldn’t or maybe in extremely rare cases. The whole point of a high bit depth is to allow for extended latitude in post. If you’re funding for a movie to make it to the cinema, shooting it in 8-bit is counterproductive, and no distributor in their right mind would accept it today. 10/12+ bit cameras today are quite affordable and come in all shapes and sizes for all budgets. However with that said, it can certainly work as a C cam or crash cam.

    • @Organalog
      @Organalog  9 месяцев назад +2

      @@VENAXIS certainly most distributors don’t ask if you shot in 10 bit or not. Where did you hear that? What matters most is the story you’re telling, and I’ve seen beautiful 8 bit movies. Blue is the Warmest Color for example.

    For anyone wondering:
    Slog2, phantom LUTs, zebras for exposure. You can do a lot with 8 but as long as you get your exposure right. Maybe not a “cinema camera”
    But a cinema camera is anything you shoot a movie with, so whether it’s a phone or an ARRI both could be a “cinema camera”

      You realize that full-frame is a still-photo format, right? For generations, most major movies have been shot on 35mm film, which yields an APS-C-sized image (AKA Super35). The same goes for most major movies shot on digital cameras. Full-frame results in excessively shallow DOF and a field of view that does not match standard cinema optics. It's useful when you need to achieve a wider angle with less-esoteric lenses, but be aware of the increased likelihood of missing focus at any given aperture.

    From Sony's specs it is a *nominal* 1" sensor, but it's physically considerably smaller than that (just under 2/3" diagonal):
    1.0"-type (0.52" x 0.35") Exmor RS® CMOS sensor
    It seems it's the same (size at least) as in their very popular RX100 cameras.
    Seemingly all "inch" size named sensors (1", 2/3", 1/1.7", 1/2.5", and micro four thirds aka 4/3") are likewise physically about 2/3 the size of their name, due to retaining the antiquated measurement system from tube sensors - which almost entirely stopped being made in the 1980s.

      No...dont speak as an authority when you have no clue on the subject. This is becoming a increasing popular viable lightweight solution on fpv drones that fit certain use case scenarious (though i think there are much much better options for various reasons). Most fpv drones utilize manual focus when carrying full frame/apsc or cinema cameras@@DoubleMonoLR . Sony cameras (not this one) are one of the few reliable enough af systems for autofocus on fpv drone(even still not always utilized unless in specific case scenarios); even then the ibis can be troublesome so you either have to permanently lock the sensor or fly very conservatively and smoothly . If you fly fpv cinelifters with arri, red komodo, black magic or just about any other camera you are utilizing manual focus even if its dual op gimbaled fpv cinelifting w a focus puller.

      dji zenmuse x5 has a Micro 4/3 sensor and an interchangeable mount , i think x7 has an even bigger sensor, Super 35mm. I don't think this camera has any justifiable uses in 2023, especially for the price

    A one inch sensor, micro-HDMI, miniscule screen, barely any ports, and micro SD card slot... a cinema camera this is not.

      If you watch the video, I give you my opinion why I feel it’s more of a mirrorless quality camera than action camera. I can see that it’s sold more as an action style camera for sure but I feel it’s pretty superior to most of the competitors.

      That DJI camera looks different than this Sony, more action camera like, although I've recently also seen some really nice footage from the Osmo 3 too! If you need a built in gimbal and other new camera features then the RX0 II is probably not worth it. It is nice the DJI has 10 Bit, I hope Sony updates this camera to have that.

    Funny that image quality of camera, that you are shooting yourself on, not even that good that image quality of that camera, what you are talking about.

      So what’s your definition of a cinema camera?

    • @davida5296
      @davida5296 10 месяцев назад

      @@Organalog there are a ton of resources on line which will help in explaining the differences, but a few hallmarks are a lens mount (personally PL is probably best and most widely used professionally) which allows for changing lenses , a large sensor, wide DR, gen lock capabilities (although not a true requirement) and a lot of other features that pros use. Interestingly, I don't count resolution as a make or break factor. For years the Alexa had a relatively low resolution and was an absolutely amazing camera that shot network TV and features. If you Google "features found on cinema cameras" or something like that, I'm sure you'll see. Hope this helps!

    Repeatedly calling this a "cinematic" camera isn't going to make it any more cinematic than an action camera. Sony has abandoned it because most people realize that and aren't falling for the ruse. This camera has issues: crappy battery life, crappy audio, overheating, focus problems, 8=bit, no stabilization, limited frame rates, fixed lens, and a ridiculous price tag. No thanks.

    • @Organalog
      @Organalog  9 месяцев назад

      Sorry you feel that way. I love this camera! Wish it was 10 bit but 8 bit but works if you don’t push too much. There have been cinematic movies shot at 8 bit. A cinema camera is not a universal definition.
