*Safe midge bug protection: Most NATO militaries use a process of dipping uniforms, underwear, socks, etc., in a water/"permethrin" solution. If you are near any hiking or outdoor stores, you can ask about products they have. You dip all clean clothes in the solution and let drip dry. Good to go for 3-6 months. I even think the clothes can be washed and will keep the protection active. Obviously it won't work on exposed skin (that's where regular bug repellant comes in) but, it will work on clothing and any surface you spray on. GOOD LUCK with the bugs!

Hello and good day to you both,
Unfortunately I only got around to watching your video now.
Yes, the mosquitoes or whatever they are can be annoying. When we were still camping, we also had an exterminator that killed the cattle, but you just can't catch them all, so we also have a small cordless vacuum cleaner and whenever we go Whatever we saw, we soaked it up.
Great video, very nice with the painted stones.
If the brakes on your bike are squeaking, it's usually the brake pads (pads) that have become hard and maybe even a bit dirty. Clean them with a little detergent and water with a brush, sponge or cloth. You can also try cleaning the surface of the blocks a little Let's rough it up with some sandpaper or install new ones. Just never put oil on it then you will no longer have any braking effect. Greetings Oldie

I once had a bike like that and didn't have any other advice, so I installed leather blocks and from then on it was quiet. Have a good time and don't let the mosquitoes or bugs eat you up. Greetings Oldie👍

I go up the west coast every May and never had much trouble with midges. Once I went right to the top but usually cut across from Ullapool to Inverness then make my way back down through the Cairngorms. This year I left later and for the first time had a similar experience as you with them on my last day at Oban and that was enough for me. I only book my sites as I go so I cut the trip short and headed over to Rosemarkie which was midge free. I'd take mosquitoes over them any day.

the midges suck, i went for the plug's to repel them. I guess you could also light coils outside and hope that wards them off from the pod also. Be interested to see how the zapper goes. I keep thinking about buying a small dehumidifier for the van, think you just made a good case for it.

Try Smidge to keep the midges away from you and citronella candles or air fresheners for the caravan. Maybe even citronella incense or the bigger candles outside the caravan to keep them away a bit. We used citronella air fresheners in a bell tent last year and it helped a lot. Loving the videos 🙂

Very Lovely video again . Loved the trial views speeding down the runs. My wife is driven nuts by midges and really reacts and i seem a popular target too, so our solution is we go April and no later than 2nd week of May and after 2nd week of September onwards. Bit extreme by we hate the little sods

Hi Roz, I'm no green warrior, but at the same time I don't like using chemicals in enclosed spaces where I stand a good chance of breathing them in. In midge season I would leave a couple of small mesh bags full of Lavender in my tent, both when up and packed away, may be my imagination, but I'm sure it at least reduced their inclination to share my space. Don't know if a small amount of essential oil smeared near vents and your doorway would help too, but cheap enough to try.

    * You have my complete sympathy having to endure being hunted by midges. I hate bugs and, for me personally, visiting Scotland, beautiful as it is, isn’t worth having to deal with them.
    * I love Winston’s “No” bark when you ask him to get in the trailer😂
    * Weighing your muesli? Does it have to be that accurate?😂
Keep up the great vlogs, Roz.

We did the nc500 in May this year visiting many of the places you recommended. We returned on May 19th from Kinlochewe and the midges began rising on the last couple of days! I had taken a usb “plug in” heater with mozzy killer pads but was nervous leaving it plugged in when out in case of fire - and the thought of using it when I was in the caravan and sitting in an atmosphere that kills insects wasn’t appealing - tricky!

Hi Roz, have just recently come across your videos and am so enjoying them. Must admit it was Winston who grabbed my attention but you are doing such a great job with them. I love that he is your priority in all your decisions. I am in Melbourne Australia and have a dog who looks very similar except he is brown/white and he is a Brittany, do you have them over there. Wondered if Winston might have this in him? They are a hunting dog, mine is pure pet. Have never subscribed to a channel before so you have definitely won me over. Looking forward to your further adventures :)

Hello! Yes, we have Brittany spaniels over here but they are not very common. You mainly see Springer spaniels, working cockers, and show cocker spaniels. Winston is a rescue dog so I have no breed papers for him. I think he’s a working cocker, but could have some Brittany in him.
