Interesting video! I've never used any of 7Artisans lenses. I'd certainly be interested in a direct comparison (image quality wise) between this lens and the Samyang/Rokinon 12mm F2 lens; which by all accounts is a high performance lens really. Great review, I've enjoyed watching your reviews on different lenses. Keep up the great work. :)

I have the 7 Artisans 50mm f/1.0 and it is fantastic. Mine is in the Leica “M” mount. I pretty much keep it on my M9P.
It should be noted that this lens now comes with a much nicer metal push-on cap instead of the gimmicky plastic cap shown in the video. They also sell an optional 77mm filter adapter.

Agree with your brother. After buying the sigma 16mm for my a6000, I have already sold 2 lenses and LOVE LOVE LOVE how sharp the sigma is. Was going to sell my a6000 but finally found the perfect match for it with the sigma 16mm so she lives on.
It's an awesome lens but it does struggle with indoor wide shots on an aps-c body, simply not wide enough.
Ended up selling mine and going for the Laowa 9mm Zero-D and it's served me great so far for real estate/architecture.
To whom it may concern, with Laowa there's strong vignetting (+75 to fix in LR/PS) as well as greenish color cast on the edges. All fixable in post but it's a required step for each shot.

I do have the 12mm 7artisans since January and I had 2 copy of this lens (the first one had a problem so I send it back and I received a new one 2-3 days later (I m living in China so that’s why) when I was in Japan I had the chance to compare it with the sigma16, and the 7artisans can still give a really nice feelings, a face to face with other lenses would be nice and clear 😉

I know this review is old but thank you for doing it. I have the Sigma 16 and was looking for wider but it doesn’t seem to make sense now. I’m not looking for ok sharpness or “good enough” images, I want the amazing images. That’s why I spend the money. What I’d love to know is if a wide angle adapter on front of the Sigma 16 is any good. 👍🏻

@Minute 6 and later: It's called focus breathing. Among tele lenses it's a common phenomenon. Not so much among wide angle lenses, that's true. But that you seem to have never heard of it gives me real confidence in your overall expertise!

Haha I also asked you to review this lens! I don't need a free one though cause I already bought it (and love it). It might fall a little short for photography, but for video it's as good as most people could need it to be. I also have the Sigma 16mm (which is obviously vastly superior) but it's really not quite wide enough for every situation.

16 mm on apsc is not really ultra wide angle like 12mm in apsc.
Was so excited to try on the Sigma 16mm, but mine arrived DOA. It would not focus, neither manually nor by autofocus. Back to B&H it goes for a replacement. Hope the next one works. If it's as sharp as the 30mm F/1.4, it'll be well worth the wait.
uscfroadie mine has arrived few days ago, and it's AMAZING!
Received today pretty sharp it's infinity is sharpest at around 2m mark, distortion is pretty amazing for such superwide.

Great video, have you heard about the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8? Also, do you see any reason to have the Rokinon 12mm and the Sigma 16mm?
I'm torn about which wide-angle lens to get. I'm just starting out and am tempted by the cheapness of the 7artisans, but then think I should go for something that will last (but is much more expensive) like the Samyang (Rokinon) 12mm f2.0
Now to make matters worse, I have seen a glowing review for a Brightin star 12mm f2 - an unknown brand name from China. But his is the only review I can find and it is not nearly as detailed/technical as yours.

I recently got this lens for fuji and it seems like they changed the lens cap. Mine is just a round cap that covers the whole lens (it doesn't have the tabs that go on the inside). Much easier to take on and off, but can be pulled off when you pull it from your bag (sometimes).
Hay, can you test zone focusing and hyper focusing markings on your manual lenses?
Love my Rokinon 12mm f/2.0. Granted the 16mm Sigma is great but, it also quite a bit larger than the Rokinon!

Hi there! I’m a big fan of your channel I have to admit, I have a Sony a6000 for 1 year now, I didn’t really like the kit lens that came with the camera so I got myself a Sigma 16mm f1.4 and a Sony 50mm f1.8 and I just love them! But know my question is, what lens could I get as from 16 to 50 mm it’s such a big gap, let’s say my budget goes until 400$, what would you advice?!

Sigma 16 vs Rokinon 12 vs Sony 10-18 for wide angle travel, interior architecture video and photos on A6400. Which would you recommend for value for money and which has best wide pic quality?
Please explain how you do a focusing on a wide, long shots, without any specific frontal subject. I want to buy these lens for Z CAM E1 and this issue bothers me.
I bought the Altura 8mm f/3.0 fish eye lens and this is probably a dumb question but I feel like it just cannot focus on anything that's close to it to a certain point? What am I missing?

12mm is a total different focal length compared to 16mm! Difference in field of view is immense. It's exceeds the wider the angle gets. 4mm on tele is negligible, NOT on wide angle lenses.
Which one is better this lense compare to Meike 12mm f2.8 ?

Well, since I’m on the market after ultra wide lens I wouldn’t tell that Sigma 16 is direct competitor to this 12mm. As I suspect this 7artissns might be quite often a choice of someone who’s actually looking for 10mm but has too tight budget to get any decent piece (I’m Fuji user so I’m manoeuvring within some really limited areas of choice here)
Can you use this on a A6500 and a gimbal ? Or is this lens -non auto - focus ?
And! I’ve seen a proper review at some other page today where this lens in terms of sharpness behaved really decent, I mean quite useful for n a midframe even @2.8. Bad copy?

Pretty bad focus breathing. Making a decent rectilinear wide angle isn't easy, especially if you're going to sell it cheap, so I guess they found a shortcut.

Arthur, do you have a 70-200mm F/2.8 solution for APS-C? Possibly a Tamron A frame with an adapter?
Chris Kaufman I tried the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 DI old version, not the newer one with VC. That one is roughly 500€. Together with sigma MC 11 = doesn't work!
Plus you need to note that a 70-200 + Adapter is extremely heavy! These are full frame lenses. Stupid combination. Lens is 1.2 kg, adapter 200 gram.
There is NO APS-C lens 2.8 on earth at the moment. The ONLY option is Sigma 50-100 F1.8! This is probably going to work with mc11 and 1.8 gives you similar shallow death of field like FF does with 2.8.
Comparing to Samyang 16 mm? When it comes to glass?

I have off topic questions and scared my a6500 may be a f ck up! ...when i change lenses i can not see any of the photos on my camera from the other lenses , like when i put on the 105 after the kit lens and vice verse?? why would it do this
