Had to take meds that were incredibly strong which did cause a ton of hair loss. Not bald but lot of hair loss & damage. Can being diabetic also be a contributing factor?
please reply. i have scalp folliculitis from hair pulling disorder, but stopped 4+ months ago. causing inflamed roots. i made worse from oils, apple cider weeks ago.. but stopped! i'm doing a lot of the things you mentioned, but advice? i'd pay if you know something to help that bad... my hair used to be full & long. i'm male, if matters. thanks.
What i got from this was its due to eating to much inflammatory foods. Sugar inpaticular for myself. Ever since i limited my water intake the last few days and have been eating alot of sugar my head has been on fire. Like literally. I found ot interesting how she said your blood flow went thru your hair shaft and ultimately your scalp. Just like your immune system is in your stomach. Meaning depression, anxiety, not eating healthy. Eating lots of gkuten and sugar and under extreme stress causes my inflammation in my body to become severe. My system is very very sensitive. As soon as i eat something my body is having some sort of immune reaction. I used to hate my sensitive system. However, i apprexiate ir now as it tells me where im being unhealthy and what foods amd environments to avoid. Its like i new this already. Yet it is now showing me that i need to leave the environment im in asap. So i fel like posting this in hopes that i help someone else out.
Folliculitis is hard to get rid of. I went to the emergency room twice they treated it as a fungal the dermatologist confirmed it was bacterial. The medicine used also treats chlamydia. doxycycline pills, fluocinonide ointment for the scalp and Keflexin shampoo. it went away for years, but will reappear. If my hair is pulled too tight or an infected comb is used by a stylist. i’ve heard it’s not contagious, but I think it is.
Tea Tree Oil stinks but it works, I purchase mine in the pharmacy . I put it in my conditioner and shampoo. My scalp is heather than it's been in years
@@AshaBlack-wy3ol may I ask ,,, what are your symptoms for using this. I have very painful places and they leak. It's like clear. I have 6 places on my scalp and maybe 6 places around my hairline and face
I have learned so much from listening to your video; also I when i am multi-tasking . I am 84 years old and broke my hip. I now have a PA who visits monthly trying to control my thyroid, which was normal before but changed from all the antibiotics and other drugs that I was given while in the hospital and physical rehabilitation. She increased my thyroid this am and reviewed the antibiotics they gave me in the hospital including physical rehab too. i am finally back to fighting these medical issues and WILL NOT QUIT. Tnank you again and God Bless You in helping others.
I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy! Irritating and constantly plays on your mind. The best thing I’ve used to calm things has been the Moo Goo (Scalp Cream)
Thank you for this information. Like someone else posted, I had gone to TWO different dermatologists, and neither of them talked about inflammation or folliculitis. Just automatically said I had ccca. I could actually see where I had bumps and my scalp was dusky looking around my hairline and in center. They never addressed it. I stopped going. I love how you talked about there may be multiple conditions. Definitely agree about the triggers, when I get flair-up I immediately start trying to figure out what I changed that may have caused it. My latest was yogurt. I was eating a lot of it because I thought it was healthy. When I stopped, I noticed a difference in inflammation and the bumps on my hairline. I'm in my late 50's and 9 years post-menopausal, so I am very realistic about what I can and cannot expect. If I can keep the hair I have, reduce thinning, and get some regrowth in the areas where I lost hair, I will be happy. Please keep sharing.
I used to get it a lot until I went natural (stopped the relaxers), washed my hair more often (I used to wait MONTHS to wash it) and decreased my use of oil on my scalp.
You forgot the most important point... That it is hereditary and chronic in many people and maybe linked to psoriasis as well...becAuse my mom inherited psoriasis from her parents and then she gave it to me and my sister...we both have chronic scalp folliculitis...surely there can be triggering things but for things to trigger...the bacteria is already living inside and doesnt want to go permanently..
Thank you for all the information, no doctor has broke it down or diagnosed this issue the way you have I 🙌🙌🙌you. Thank you letting us know if we have questions where to get in touch with you. I wish you worked in AL.
Hi my name is Jeanette and I'm experiencing pimples on my scalp and itchiness. I was searching on Utube for information on scalp itchiness and pimples. You video popped up and I became interested. You giving me information about scalp Folliculitis I never knew of. Wow! Am stunned I have this the symptoms you describe on the video. I haven't seek a professional because I have no insurance but I will try the advised treatment you given. I wish I can get the appropriate help from a professional to really diagnose my condition and my concerns. I want too Thank You for the information you provided. Sincerely, Jeanette a viewer Belleville New Jersey.
Shampoo causes dryness, severe itching every time I use it, no matter how paraben free, etc. I stop shampooing, and my scalp got better and stopped itching. I use conditioner to wash my hair and then oil my scalp, every other day and that makes a big difference for me. You have to listen to your scalp. It will tell you what it likes or dislikes.
True that I swear I wanted to kill the germ that gave it life so I STARTED doing this get my hair wet to wash hot water then I started taking a bar of dial antibacterial soap and I literally used it for 1st shampoo when showering anyway once my hair was very well soaped up I left in my head for 7 to 10 minutes before rinsing out so I kill any bacteria before washing with shampoo and condition my hair For 20 to 25 minutes before rinsing cuz lord knows I needed moisture in my hair I came up with the dial soap idea after I had a surgery scheduled and my doctor told me to be there at 5am and to take a dial soap bath before I come and that surgery would start at 7am so I thought if the surgeons main requirement is to take a dial soap bath before surgery dial soap surely can help me with my hair and yes washing every other day by starting with open hair strands and follicles then depositing dial bar soap letting it do it's job for 10 minutes then shampoo rinse condition my follicles don't have bad germs causing inflammation so they don't flare up or crust up on the surface my new hair is able to actually pass threw the scalp and I suddenly notice the stubble and it's still growing
Good information here. I've been dealing with this for over a year now. I've tried all the medicated shampoos both OTC and prescription. I've been to 2 different dermatologists. Went last week and now we're trying red light and ivermectin lotion in case it is Pityrosporum (Malassezia) folliculitis. It's exhausting and expensive to try to remedy this. I've spent $1K so far. :(
I have hair thinning like crazy in the middle of my hair and years of I guess what you said is inflammation on and off. My dermo (2 different visits) suggested minoxidil. That's it. Which I haven't bought yet. So basically I'm back to doing this on my own and consulting professional like yourself online. Thanks for sharing!
@@marjanachowdhury10 I did not use it. Washing my hair often remove the use of oils and focusing on my lifestyle and diet....slowly progress but there is progress
Low vitamin C ( which is very common as less citrus and fresh veg is being eaten ) , can cause this too and as this lovely lady says it may be a symptom of another health problem such as an autoimmune condition that is hindering nutrient absorption .Vitamin C is responsible for healthy connective tissue and collage protection . Do not confuse with Follicular Hyperkeratosis , Psoriasis or Sebhorreic Dermatitis which is spread across the scalp , folliculitis is actually the hair follicle that is infected and presents with a yellow head .
I learned so much from you!! I never knew about the oil making matters worse! I have an appointment with my dermatologist soon and I’m hoping she can help me without making my hair fall out more. Thanks so much ❤🙏🏽
My son has folliculitis and I make a thin paste with water and colloidal oatmeal and apply it to the affected area. It reduces the swelling and the pain from the sores/bumps on his head. I also disinfect his hair brush often. For the itching I spray hydrogen peroxide on his scalp. Hope this helps someone.
I think it deliberate maybe they are putting things in the products to coarse hair loss need to use natural products thank you for your professional advice we need our own shop's and new healthy proudusk for our hair
I am 19 years old and have been suffering from folliculitis for 5 or 6 years now. I have no idea how I got it, since I follow an almost perfect diet together with a nutritionist, I usually wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week, and in general I have perfect hygiene. There are times when it completely disappears and they are some of the happiest times of my life. While there are other times, like these days, where it's freaking me out so bad. I've tried various therapies with various dermatologists, and they only work during the therapy period, once it's finished, everything goes back to the way it was. These days I can't even lay my head on the pillow without feeling pain and I haven't been able to sleep for two nights. I really don't know how to do it

I put hydrocortisone on my scalp, I thought I had traction alopecia, or maybe I did, however it grew back once it was healed, and it healed quick like in a week.
Can u please tell me in detail like how did u put that thing in your scalp? I don't know alopecia but I got folliculitis because of using wrong shampoo and now I am losing my hairs especially the top layers in a HUGE NUMBER
I literally shaved my head once in 2020 (went to the barber) and I've had it ever since and I've been seeing a dermatologist using ketoconazole and other clobetosol but it still won't go away. It itches like crazy and I don't see any relief in sight
Folliculitis is a very difficult condition to deal with. Many times topical products won't work because there are internal factors contributing to your outbreaks and inflammation. I would love to do an evaluation with you and provide a customized treatment plan to help heal not only your scalp but your internal system to prevent reoccurring flare ups. Same here! The itching and burning is driving me nuts. I went to the dermatologist and they gave me Clindamycin for the scalp and some anti inflammatory shampoo I hope it works. 🤞🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Very helpful Dr. Nina. I have the itching and bumps and scabs from it. My hair stylist says my hair is very healthy. I doesn't feel like it to me. I might like to see what the cocktails that you would prescribe would entail.
That is great, Charcoal does a really good job of detoxing our bodies. If you are in need of additional help or long term solutions I would love to assist you!
Scalp stimulation i use a large tooth comb an just rub the tip of it back an forth over the bald area for like an hour every evening you have to wake up your follicles when you stimulate them the blood will flow to area of stimulation but you have to commit to constant stimulation til you see new growth then your in You know how when you shave and you get out the shower and while you drying off you catch a chill from being kinda wet and the air is cool and suddenly you get the chill bumps on your just shaved legs and suddenly 20 minutes after shaving you need to shave again blood flow to your hair folicals on your legs from getting the chill bimps while trying to dry off ive never seen it not work

You say it never goes away - does that mean everyone have dormant folliculitis, or is it just that when you get it.. you're screwed for the rest of the life? I've been dealing with this for 10 years, been through multple dermatologists that never helped, all the topical treatments, antibiotics, even accutane. I changed my diet completely, made sure to stay healthy. And I STILL have it - do I just need to accept that I'll forever be tortured by this?
Hi, so it can become dormant with proper treatment and diet routines. There may be different factors that can trigger inflammation and irritation again even after it has been calmed so that is why continuous care is needed if you suffer from Folliculitis.
I relate 100 percent. I was a hairstylist and this destroyed my career, personal life and I have to wear head covering all the time because of bald patches now and my hair is broken off and brittle. I’ve been to dermatologist 3 times and nothing helps. I feel you’re pain
@@staceydigre3657 I'm so sorry you deal with this horrible illness as well. The level of confidence it takes away. I can't remember the last time I brushed my hand through my hair and didn't feel pain.
@@Hunkstaban me to. I’m so sorry you are experiencing this. I feel Like I’m handling it better then most would considering my background in hair. Most women would crumble and I have a Sense of humor but I’m so over it now. It is a comfort knowing I’m not alone although I hate to see others suffer.
Dealing with this for almost 11 years now…haven’t been to a dermatologist but tried a lot of creams and few soaps. These disappear for a short time but come back. Like a never ending headache

I recently saw my dermatologist about my hair folliculitis, mine only started after my first dosage of oratane. I never had it before so far the only thing ive found that works is doxycycline or benzoyl peroxide wash in my scalp. I've also tried reducing sugars and increasing water intake but the moment i stop or slow down on the benzoyl peroxide it comes back. Ive also tried a variety of skincare vitamins. Im kinda at a loss of what else to try cause im sick of trying to maintain it and wanting to find a more long term fix.

Hi I'm having same side effects you mentioned. I came from hair transplant. I got my hair transplant 7 months ago. I don't know when I started experiencing scabs or crusts that comes out with pieces of hair, but I do remember heavily using essential oils like Rosemary, coconut oil, Castro oil. The scabs or crust become white and visible when I finish showering. When my scalp gets dry the crust or scab is less visible. I have a habit of removing them from my scalp and when I do pieces of hair come with it.

I have maybe 3 or 4 bumps or red like lesions, sore to the touch, burns when i sweat. I feel i may have folliculitis, i had a lot of curly hair, my home burned and damaged my truck as well, so i am dependent upon my sister for abodement and transportation, it causes a huge amount of stress, as i try to limit my use of utilities,,, i think maybe washing my hair like twice a week and trying to use my towels sparingly has caused serious problems with my hair and skin. She has animals as well but i am used to my animals having an outlet and a proper way to take care of them, she cant bathe them properly and i feel sorry for her and them. Oh my i feel trapped. I feel like my condition is self inflicted and i cant do anything about it. Will selsun blue help with out antibiotics, i really dont want to cut my hair off.
High blood sugar levels, often associated with diabetes, can indeed impact the body's susceptibility to various infections, including skin conditions such as folliculitis. Folliculitis is the inflammation of hair follicles, which can be caused by a bacterial, fungal, or viral infection. Individuals with high blood sugar levels may have a compromised immune system, making it harder for their body to fight off infections, thus potentially increasing the risk of developing conditions like folliculitis. How High Blood Sugar Affects Folliculitis - **Immune System Impairment**: High blood sugar can impair the immune system, reducing the body's ability to fight off infections. - **Skin Conditions**: Diabetes can cause changes in the skin, making it more susceptible to infections due to altered blood flow and nerve function. - **Bacterial Growth**: High levels of glucose in the body can promote the growth of bacteria, providing a conducive environment for infections like folliculitis. Hydration and Mineral Water Hydration is vital for overall health and can indirectly support the management of high blood sugar levels and skin health. While staying well-hydrated is beneficial, it's important to understand its role in the context of managing blood sugar levels and folliculitis: - Blood Sugar Management: Proper hydration can help in diluting the blood sugar in the bloodstream to some extent and promote kidney function, which aids in excreting excess glucose through urine. However, hydration alone cannot significantly reduce high blood sugar levels; it should be part of a comprehensive management plan including diet, exercise, and medication as prescribed by a healthcare provider. -Skin Health: Adequate hydration can improve skin health by maintaining its elasticity and barrier function, potentially reducing the susceptibility to infections like folliculitis. Mineral water, specifically, can provide essential minerals that might support skin health, although its direct impact on blood sugar levels and folliculitis is not well-established. ### Vitamins and Minerals for Blood Sugar and Folliculitis Several vitamins and minerals can influence blood sugar control and skin health, potentially impacting conditions like folliculitis: - **Chromium**: This mineral is known to enhance the action of insulin, which can help in improving blood sugar control. - **Magnesium**: Low levels of magnesium have been linked to insulin resistance, a condition often preceding type 2 diabetes. - **Vitamin D**: Adequate levels of Vitamin D are important for insulin production and sensitivity. Additionally, Vitamin D has been shown to play a role in skin health and may support the immune system's ability to fight off infections. - **Zinc**: Zinc plays a vital role in wound healing and immune function, which could be beneficial in managing skin infections like folliculitis. It also has a role in insulin action. While these vitamins and minerals can support overall health, including blood sugar management and potentially reducing the risk of conditions like folliculitis, it's crucial to approach their use with balance. Excessive intake of certain nutrients can have adverse effects. It's best to aim for a well-rounded diet or use supplements under the guidance of a healthcare provider, especially when managing chronic conditions like diabetes. _In summary, while hydration (including mineral water) can support overall health, managing high blood sugar levels and conditions like folliculitis requires a comprehensive approach that includes dietary management, regular exercise, adequate hydration, and possibly medication. Consulting with healthcare professionals is essential for tailored advice and effective management of these conditions._

Yes true same I noticed
Folliculitis is hard to get rid of. I went to the emergency room twice they treated it as a fungal the dermatologist confirmed it was bacterial. The medicine used also treats chlamydia. doxycycline pills, fluocinonide ointment for the scalp and Keflexin shampoo. it went away for years, but will reappear. If my hair is pulled too tight or an infected comb is used by a stylist. i’ve heard it’s not contagious, but I think it is.
Whole family got it
I tend to pull out the hairs in the sores...it feels good.
Tea Tree Oil stinks but it works, I purchase mine in the pharmacy . I put it in my conditioner and shampoo. My scalp is heather than it's been in years

What is ccca?

Look up CCCA. This is a big condition in black hair
I, too, was told the same thing. I have not purchased minoxidil. I just wash my hair often. Also, I just try to keep my hair moist.

So what exactly is the cure?
Low vitamin C ( which is very common as less citrus and fresh veg is being eaten ) , can cause this too and as this lovely lady says it may be a symptom of another health problem such as an autoimmune condition that is hindering nutrient absorption .Vitamin C is responsible for healthy connective tissue and collage protection . Do not confuse with Follicular Hyperkeratosis , Psoriasis or Sebhorreic Dermatitis which is spread across the scalp , folliculitis is actually the hair follicle that is infected and presents with a yellow head .
If take high amounts of vitamin c we can cured from folliculities?
I learned so much from you!! I never knew about the oil making matters worse! I have an appointment with my dermatologist soon and I’m hoping she can help me without making my hair fall out more. Thanks so much ❤🙏🏽

You say it never goes away - does that mean everyone have dormant folliculitis, or is it just that when you get it.. you're screwed for the rest of the life? High blood sugar levels, often associated with diabetes, can indeed impact the body's susceptibility to various infections, including skin conditions such as folliculitis. Folliculitis is the inflammation of hair follicles, which can be caused by a bacterial, fungal, or viral infection. Individuals with high blood sugar levels may have a compromised immune system, making it harder for their body to fight off infections, thus potentially increasing the risk of developing conditions like folliculitis.
How High Blood Sugar Affects Folliculitis
- **Immune System Impairment**: High blood sugar can impair the immune system, reducing the body's ability to fight off infections.
Hydration and Mineral Water
Hydration is vital for overall health and can indirectly support the management of high blood sugar levels and skin health. While staying well-hydrated is beneficial, it's important to understand its role in the context of managing blood sugar levels and folliculitis:
- Blood Sugar Management: Proper hydration can help in diluting the blood sugar in the bloodstream to some extent and promote kidney function, which aids in excreting excess glucose through urine.
### Vitamins and Minerals for Blood Sugar and Folliculitis
Several vitamins and minerals can influence blood sugar control and skin health, potentially impacting conditions like folliculitis:
- **Chromium**: This mineral is known to enhance the action of insulin, which can help in improving blood sugar control.

Very informative. I appreciate the detail.
It don’t itch bleed etc but there is a bump
I used salty warm water and got healed
Can you tell me exactly what you did with the salty warm water? I'm pretty sure my 3 year old has this condition and I would love to stop it now.
I used boiled water from an electric kettle, put 5 spoons of salt mix it then pour it into a basin ! Take a small piece of towel like cloth put in the hot water and squeeze it ,then put it on the head ! Do it twice a day within 4 - 6days you will see some changes ! The painful sores, blisters will dry quickly , the itching will stop!
@@eminix2132 Thank you soooooo much! I will give this a try beginning today!

Can we apply rosemary water on scalp folliculitis??
Try various antifungals - rosemary, oregano, cinnamon essential oil, etc. The antifungal oils work well. Usually works in 1-2 weeks or less.

Hello Dr. Ross. I don't think I have Folliculitis but there is some type of fungal on my scalp. Along my hair line my scalp gets patches, and they bleed very lightly when I shampoo my hair to remove the patches. I also have very dry patches throughout my hair that itches really bad. I stop relaxing my hair and I've been natural for about 2 years and I really need some help. I've tried EVERYTHING under the sun and no relief thus far. I'm so over this!!

What shall I do.. I’m currently in low self esteem because of this and even with seeing the dermatologist my hair loss is worse

Thank you for this information. I needed to hear this..I went to the doctor today also I asked about my hair.
How can I moisturize my hair if I can't use oils?
Hi, we do not recommend putting oil directly on the scalp. Instead, you should put the oil on your hair strands and allow the moisture to naturally travel to your scalp. Also, fish oils are good supplements to take to help reduce dryness and irritation.
I have folliculitis decalvans and it burns and crust. I lost so much hair and i had to be homeschooled. I got diagnosed with hidrendentis suppurativa first then months later this started so do they have a connection?
