A keto/carnivore diet helped me with my psoriasis (scalp). My carb and sugar intake is zero. It is not a cure because you're just genetically predisposed to this condition if you have it. But I no longer suffer like I used to before; waking up in the middle of the night scratching my forehead and scalp to oblivion.
I have very mild psoriasis. I have been using The Body Shop ginger scalp treatment for 3 years and it has helped immensely. I saw my Dr for eczema who told me to eliminate gluten, sugar and dairy but this has also helped my psoriasis. I know different things help different people.
Thank you for this. I'm a hairstylist and I like to share your videos with my clients who suffer with hair and scalp conditions. I also recommend they see a dermatologist.
I was literally standing in the anti-dandruff section of my local supermarket yesterday staring at all the different options Dr. Dray it’s like you’re reading my mind thank you
Thank you so much for this video Dr. Dray! I have psoriasis and axial psoriatic arthritis (and am on a biologic) along with a few other chronic conditions and have been having a really rough time lately, feeling like this disease has taken so much from me. Although I already do most of the things you mentioned, i teared up a bit when you acknowledged that psoriasis can feel defeating and emphasized that there ARE things we can do. I would love to see more psoriasis videos, perhaps about the different prescription treatments and procedures and the different types of psoriasis (I've had guttate, plaque and inverse). What OTC products are good for psoriasis or at least won't make it worse, and what ingredients in skincare products should be avoided would be great! Again, thank you for being you and for sharing your life and knowledge with us.
That's the huge mistake in the medical system, to have a doctor for every part or organ of our body, when the body is a whole. If psoriasis is caused by inflammation IN THE BODY then we should treat the INSIDE of the body. Anything topical is a band aid.
This is the first thorough and properly educating video on psoriasis I've seen, and the deeper understanding that you have of the other problems most people with psoriasis are facing is why. Thank you!
Thanks Dr Dray. It’s really helpful to hear such an extended take on how to deal with psoriasis. In my case it affected so many aspects of my life that I accepted the lows and highs of it in my daily life. Picking and scratching, there are days it’s all under control but also days where I become aware that I’m scratching my scalp only because my partner kindly reminds me not to. Nutrition is something I’m having no problem with, or at least not anymore. I do have a tendency to gain weight but I found ways to treat myself with healthy meals. Those daily moments of self care have become very important. Meals, skincare, exercise if possible go way beyond psoriasis control but can benefit on so many levels. Thanks again for this video and your other videos on psoriasis but all the others as well. Many 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis for over 20 years and have had a lot to psoriasis. I’ve tried all the things you talked about and they work pretty well.
I have PsA w/the rash. I am limited to medication I can take for it because I am allergic to Aspirin. In finding Dr. Dray, my skin has improved 100%. I used to have patches of psoriasis on my legs. I now use the dandruff shampoo 2-3 times a week in the areas with psoriasis when I have a flair up. It is amazing how much faster it clears up now when I have a flair up. I still have my topical prescriptions and use lot of CeraVe and Eucerin creams. But bathing the right way has made a HUGE IMPACT. Thanks Dr. Dray!
Thank you for this video! I struggle with scalp psoriasis for 15 years now. Never did I get such good tips from any of my dermatologists, I was actually misdiagnosed for several years as my scalp psoriasis appeared when I was 15. I would love a video about scalp psoriasis and hair loss, another struggle I’ve been facing for 4 years now, with no improvement.

I use Redken acidic bonding shampoo. It contains salicylic acid but no sls. Its purpuse is not to calm down a crisis of psoriasis but it helps me not to have too many crisis. For them, my doctor prescribes a corticoid lotion that Can be used to the scalp, the face and the body (because I didn't want to use shampoo with sls). Hard water is also really bad for psoriasis, so I use a filter system shower head (round on Amazon for 20€) and it's really helping. Hope that can help you.
@@sandrinemonestier1518 gracias estoy pensando comprar un purificador de agua para la ducha radicó en USA creó el agua es muy dura x los productos que ponen también estoy batallando con mi soriasis buena idea gracias bendiciones 🙏
I have tried every otc and prescription med possible except for a biologic. A pandemic isnt the best time to start one of those so the suffering continues. It is so easy to say “Don’t pick” but continuous relentless itching is impossible to ignore!
Dr. Dray, before your dermatology education, were there any skincare mistakes that you made? If there are, I think that would make for a fun video. It would also inspire confidence for those of us that are just learning about skincare that mistakes can be reversed to an extent. :)
Oh, you should definitely watch her videos from the beginning! I just started, and I’m like, “Wait, no reapplying the sunscreen during the day on the face or at all on the body?!! Washing the face in the AM and PM?! Are you putting St. Ives on your FACE?!” We are all def on this journey together 😅
Neutropenia T-Gel is great. I’ve used it for years and I have a clear scalp and thick, full hair. I’m a male. It really smells very good and you won’t mind it at all!!! Coal Tar is really the answer!
Dr. Dray - I have been using the t-gel shampoo for years to help maintain my psoraisis on my scalp and recently added salycilic acid into my scalp routine as well and it definitely helps. The question I have is post shower moisturizing.. like my psoriasis on my body, I always moisturize after showering and throughout the day. Is there anything you recommend for moisturizing the scalp and keeping it conditioned through out the day to fight the itch when it occurs? Thank you!
Hi Dr. Dray, I'm a first-time and viewer who developed a bit of scalp psoriasis over the winter. I thought it was from the dry winter conditions; but learned through Google search that it is more than that. My doctor recommended I start by using T/Gel. While searching RUclips, I came across your channel. I'm so glad I took the time to listen to it, because you provided so much in-depth information about causes and treatments. Would never, ever have connected my really poor sleeping habits (staying up till all hours of the night, rising so late in the morning, nodding off throughout the day from lack of sleep) as contributing to my scalp psoriasis. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm going to start using T/Gel and making more at a concerted effort to improve my sleep schedule. Will be watching for more of your very informative videos. 💜💜
I’m African American it is only on my scalp my skin is flawless I’ve never had a pimple but I can say when i was younger and not overweight I only had dandruff this video was really helpful
I have a mild case that gets really itchy once in a while so I can handle myself, but finding which of these products work is a frustrating trial & error process. Nizoral works well for me, but that’s just me. You forgot to mention - most of the products you recommended can strip the color out of color-treated hair.
The trial and error can be so frustrating, especially since medicated shampoos are generally more expensive. I don't have psoriasis, but I have pretty severe seb derm/dandruff, and it took me forever to find what works for me. I shampoo every other day, alternating between Nizoral and Dermarest, gently work it in with a silicone shampoo brush, and leave on for the duration of my shower before rinsing. I think I've finally found a good balance of what to use and how often. When I colored my hair regularly, I found that using a semi-permanent color, toner, or glaze/gloss (depending on your color) helped refresh color without damage in between permanent colorings. If you get it done professionally, make sure you talk to your stylist about at-home options that won't make things harder for them (like a glaze or gloss).
I'm happy to read this comment, i too have color treated hair and actually do use my perscribed ketoconazole shampoo to strip the color from my hair when I'm ready to change the color of the ends because i use temporary color, it works well. That's about the only thing it works for, for ME LOL doesn't do jack for my psoriasis 🤷
I was never taught how to deal with it, and never really was helped while i grew up by my parents, i havent taken care of my scalp psoriasis before until now in my life that im discovering how to take care of myself in general. These kind of videos help a lot!
I tried for so long not to wash my hair as frequently to control my scalp psoriasis only to find that washing more frequently helps so much more! I can’t stand how tar shampoo smells and the odor is impossible to get out of your hair!
So I Sam a 54 yr old African American woman. I grew up with eczema in my scalp. Recently I was diagnosed with psoriasis. It is all over my scalp, inside my ears (ugh), behind an ear, and on my face. My dermatologist tried to freeze a spot on my temple/hairline. I am so frustrated. Peeling the scales relieves the itching for me. I was given the medicated shampoo that I should leave on my scalp for ten minutes. I don’t understand why this has flared up at this age. I did use the T Gel before going to the dermatologist and it took the pain away. The itching though is unreal. My dermatologist did not go over any of this information.
Thank you so much! All the products you mentioned to help the symptoms of psoriasis are right on. Farther more, I love you mentioning about healthy lifestyle habits and bringing to light that people with psoriasis when having to deal with the frustrating disease, tend to have a problem with substance abuse, and mostly alcohol abuse. Turning the whole life a snowball of cause and effect making the disease worst, and that resulting into more substance abuse and depression. I like that you boarded that aspect of this cruel inmune disorder. Thank you!
I’m so grateful for your YT channel. I do have psoriasis and pretty bad acne scarring but thanks to your channel and adopted lifestyle modifications - I’m HAPPY HAPPY with my skin for the first time!! This is earth-shattering for me personally. Stay fabulous! :)
This video was very informative. I Picked my scalp so bad that it spread all over my scalp. I then put a tight braid style in hair and a large amount of my hair came out. I’m treating it with zinc shampoo, coconut oil and mineral oil. I’m hopeful to get my scalp back to normal and this video was so helpful.
Coal tar is awesome. I currently use the shampoo Alphosyl 2 in 1. Cleared the scales without rebound and leaves the hair soft and easy to comb. The smell is ok as they put a herbal fragrance.
My scalp broke out in blisters after using head and shoulders and selsun blue. Those are not intended for dry scalp and psoriasis. I was also diagnosed at 11, and was told it can be hereditary.
I would love it if you could talk about Ichthyosis. I see a dermatologist but most that I have seen seem to know very little about the condition and what products to recommend. Especially ichthyosis on your scalp! That is the most challenging for us I feel.
My scalp psoriasis resolved with a gamma linolenic acid supplement 🙂. I use hemp seed oil, culinary type. It comes back if I stop, though. GLA is an anti-inflammatory in the body.
Skin is reacting because something is going on internally. That needs to be discovered and addressed most importantly in order to help with the breakouts or eruptions on the skins surface!
Wow, I have been diagnosed with psoriases like 10 years ago, and a year ago with GAD. I would never think there is any link in between that. I'm also recovering alcoholic, my mind is blown
Dr Dray, thank you so so much!!💕💕💕 I’ve been a subscriber for many years and haven’t seen this one. This is full of support, validation, and really pragmatic tips. Some I know and practice, some I’ve suspected, and others are brand new! In addition to psoriasis, I have psoriatic arthritis. My rheumatologist suggested an anti inflammatory diet when I was first diagnosed. It helps soooo much. The way I look at it, food is the largest volume of chemicals I put in my body, so I want to be careful which ones I allow in. Thank you, again!
Thank you for this!! I have dandruff but also scalp psoriasis around the back of my ears and nape of the neck. I’ve tried every shampoo in the drug store and I use it daily, had prescription creams and foams that don’t help much. I still “snow” all over my clothes😭 I do have a habit of picking it, I don’t get enough sleep, and the anxiety/stress. I really want to try these tips and perhaps a medication!
Thank you !! Just what I needed. My hairdresser is looking for a mild color treatment. My dermatologist (male) was useless, he didn't even look at my scalp 🤨
Thank you, Dr Dray! I was diagnosed last Year, in June 2020, with Psoriasis at 57. It started on my hands, then moved to my face. I had to stop using Tretinoin 😥 because it was so irritating even though I know it's suppose to help. Now it's on my scalp. I am so glad I found your video today after I googled pictures of scalp psoriasis. I've been watching you for quite sometime. Hubs drove me to Walmart and we picked up the Dermarest and Mineral Oil, almost immediately and before finishing your video, LOL. I'm back and will follow your recommendations first thing tomorrow morning. Now I am wondering if the switch to 25 mg Losartan could of triggered the psoriasis after all these years and not in my genes. After reading that some blood pressure can trigger it today, I plan on sending my Primary Doc an email. Thanks again 😊
@@shellyliu Hi Shelly, I'm still using the Dermarest once a week or so, I find it did/does help. I actually stopped using the mineral oil. My Psoriasis is better now though. My Derm Doc had me on Otezla (failed, stomach issues) but now I'm on Tremfya ($5 copay), 2nd self injection about a week ago and from now on it's every 8 weeks. Major difference and getting better daily.
Aloe Vera is great for your hair! I have psoriasis pretty bad on the front of my hairline and by my ears. I found a hairstylist that gives aloe Vera treatments on my scalp and it’s much more tolerable. She cuts the plant and spreads the gel directly on my problem areas. Not only does it feel amazing, but my itching and scaling is going down immensely.
I have moderate scalp psoriasis and it's so frustrating! It's really effected the appearance of my hair! I find that the only way I get it under control is washing frequently!
It' starts in the gut. Not washing your hair. My natural path knew I was allergic to gluten and dairy. It's gone. BTW. It starts in the gut period. I promise
All thanks to (Dr iyare moses) on youtube channel for curing me from psoriasis/hyperthyroidism with his natural herbs supplement& body cleanser thank you doc..
Very quickly and super high level, eczema is dry skin, seborrheic dermatitis is oily skin, and psoriasis is likely caused by an autoimmune disease. They all look like they have the same symptom “dry skin”
VERY good video! Thank you so much!! I have silver hair and found that the coal tar shampoo discolored my hair. I switched to T/Sal and found that it does not discolor.
Thank you . Do you have a video on psoriasis on other skin as well ? Having both takes same treatment ? Don’t scratch , pick , or peel ? Easier said than done ! T-Sal made my scalp burn like fire !
Dr. Dray, please make a video on oily eyelids! Why they happen and maybe what type of products might just help with that issue? I used to have very oily/acne prone skin during puberty but now because of your channel it has calmed down to a normal skin type but I still always have oily eyelids especially in the summer, ugh! I've tried researching it but all that pops up is to use cosmetic products such as primers and oil absorbing sheets. Anyways, thanks for the vids!
I recommend organic amla powder packed full of vitamin c which helps to heal skin. Powerful detoxification. Prickly pear shampoo too. Shea butter has mass nutrition to keep skin moist.
This is a really useful video thank you. I have been using coal tar (Alphosyl) shampoo for 20 years which keeps the scales back and reduces some itch. I will look into salicylic acid shampoo for the scalp. I used a have a prescribed scalp solution but it seems to have stopped working. I also find glucosamine, vitamin D, cod liver and omega oil supplements helpful to stop my knees swelling. I think that it is psoriatic arthritis.
Have you tried wearing cotton gloves in sleep? This is what we do with babies and little children to keep them from scratching an itch, maybe this helps for you, too.
Nicole on EQ - After years of doing the same, I was able to leave my head alone by keeping my nails short and getting them done with gel dipping like sns or acrylics and the increased thickness of the nail made it so I could no longer get the traction! So getting my nails done has also become part of my self care regime for managing my psoriasis
Thank you for this information. I visit a dermatologist but I'm still struggling despite the treatments he recommends. I'm going to develop a plan based off your advice and I think it's really going to help.
Hi Dr Dray could you please do a similar video for treating scalp eczema. I'm allergic to coal tar and have extreme dryness which doesn't respond to dandruff shampoos for obvious reasons. Sulphate free shampoos with scalp moisturising treatments work most of the time fairly well eg Eucerin scalp urea treatment lotion, but during flares the itch is difficult to manage. I also have very dry/curly hair (with some highlights to camoflage the white strands), so many shampoos are not moisturising enough. Finding fragrance free shampoos that are moisturising enough for dry/curly hair is also difficult, as the haircare ranges targeted at curly hair are highly fragranced. Best wishes.
T gel smells amazing! It has never stained anything for me. The sulfur shampoos, like Selsun Blue etc, reek to me, and stain. I just buy T gel for occasional dandruff.
Thank you for suggestions - I will try some of them. Just one question: how can you stop yourself from picking and scratching? It's so difficult to do.
I have found that my scalp psoriasis (mild) can be controlled by simply using Selsun gold (stronger than the blue one) I do only have mild psoriasis, but I think these tips will really help as I've found selenium sulfide to be very effective on mine.... Bit smelly tho. 😄 I would highly recommend a shampoo that contains selenium sulfide!
I have had psoriasis for over twenty years. Acupuncture and homeopathy helped me so much that i went into remission for 10 years at one point. During the last 7 years, mold in our home triggered the worst I've ever experienced. I finally resorted to seeing a dermatologist and it was a big mistake. I refused the steroids and got a vitamin D cream instead which gave me some relief, but this suppression made it pop out in a new place. Your body is getting rid of toxins so be careful how you find relief.
thank you very much dr dray, i have a question< should w avoid all products with silver(not colloidal silver) ? especially if it has been listed as last ingredient or as preservative?
Dear Dr Dray - as most of us trust you a lot and this past year I would suggest that a few more of us have issues with sleep/stress/exercise/good habits it would be really useful if you could go into some of the apps you find helpful - esp beginner and middle ones. All your audience witness your immense self-discipline but believe you are very compassionate and, IMO many others would love to hear your recommendations re the apps that gently encourage those of us who are 'not quite (read light years away from reaching) your level!

I have tried every otc and prescription med possible except for a biologic. A pandemic isnt the best time to start one of those so the suffering continues. It is so easy to say “Don’t pick” but continuous relentless itching is impossible to ignore!
I Know what you mean, the scales drive me nuts
Dr. Dray, before your dermatology education, were there any skincare mistakes that you made? If there are, I think that would make for a fun video. It would also inspire confidence for those of us that are just learning about skincare that mistakes can be reversed to an extent. :)
Oh thats a brilliant idea! I second this, Dr!
One person's medicine is another person's non-medicine.
I’ve started using “free and clear shampoo” it’s dye free and frange rance free so it helps my psoriasis on my skin as well too
3 kiwi fruit daily , apply castor oil 4 times daily , 3 days started working and 2 weeks fully recovered.
Neutropenia T-Gel is great. I’ve used it for years and I have a clear scalp and thick, full hair. I’m a male. It really smells very good and you won’t mind it at all!!! Coal Tar is really the answer!
Is there a difference between scalp psoriasis and scalp eczema?
@@ronaldfernandez5625 shut up

Im watching this 3 yrs later and from abroad but this doctor is so cool!
Thank you for this helpful content!
I have a mild case that gets really itchy once in a while so I can handle myself, but finding which of these products work is a frustrating trial & error process. Nizoral works well for me, but that’s just me. You forgot to mention - most of the products you recommended can strip the color out of color-treated hair.
YEAH MY COMES AND GOES .
Mine was gone permanently through the help of DR OSEMUAHU on RUclips you can contact him also he can help you ❤️
I tried for so long not to wash my hair as frequently to control my scalp psoriasis only to find that washing more frequently helps so much more! I can’t stand how tar shampoo smells and the odor is impossible to get out of your hair!
Yeah I got this idea in my head that I’d dry it out more if I washed it too often.

Thank you!
Over the counter tar based shampoo. Magical.

Picked my scalp so bad that it spread all over my scalp.
Finally someone that understands, just incredible thank you Dr !!
Omega 3 and vitamin D supplements really helped me
My scalp broke out in blisters after using head and shoulders and selsun blue.
GLA is an anti-inflammatory in the body.
oh really :o what mg did you take per day and how long did it take to heal?
Intelligent, informative, and you obviously genuinely care about helping. Thank you.
Same
Dr Dray, thank you so so much!!💕💕💕
I’ve been a subscriber for many years and haven’t seen this one.
Hello have anyone heard of Dr iyaremoses on RUclips channel he cured me permanently from psoriasis with herbal remedy..

Thank you !! Just what I needed. My hairdresser is looking for a mild color treatment. My dermatologist (male) was useless, he didn't even look at my scalp 🤨
you are well spoken and articulate!
Dermarest serum really helps loosen scales works better then lotion dermatologist gave me.
I really appreciate how you also emphasize lifestyle changes after your treatment recommendation
Thanks again 😊
did the dermarest and mineral oil work?
@@shellyliu Hi Shelly, I'm still using the Dermarest once a week or so, I find it did/does help. I actually stopped using the mineral oil. My Psoriasis is better now though. My Derm Doc had me on Otezla (failed, stomach issues) but now I'm on Tremfya ($5 copay), 2nd self injection about a week ago and from now on it's every 8 weeks. Major difference and getting better daily.
I found that putting 100% aloe vera gel on my scalp reduces the inflammation and itch - is this safe to use?
Aloe Vera is great for your hair! I have psoriasis pretty bad on the front of my hairline and by my ears. I found a hairstylist that gives aloe Vera treatments on my scalp and it’s much more tolerable. She cuts the plant and spreads the gel directly on my problem areas. Not only does it feel amazing, but my itching and scaling is going down immensely.
Yes! I use it for itchy scalp...I don't have psoriasis. Use it for a leave in hair conditioner. Great for hair. 🌞
The channel Doctorly has a great shampoo recommendation
I have moderate scalp psoriasis and it's so frustrating! It's really effected the appearance of my hair! I find that the only way I get it under control is washing frequently!
I also have moderate scalp psoriasis. Can you tell me how is it now? Did you get rid of it? If yes, how?
It' starts in the gut. Not washing your hair. My natural path knew I was allergic to gluten and dairy. It's gone. BTW. It starts in the gut period. I promise
I have not tried this and I have no doubt that it works, but I can tell you that by eating clean and reducing stress, I got the same results!
It is a autoimmune problem that stems from your gut. It is not a skin disease.

What's the difference between scalp psoriasis. Scalp eczema and seborrheic dermatitis?
Very quickly and super high level, eczema is dry skin, seborrheic dermatitis is oily skin, and psoriasis is likely caused by an autoimmune disease. They all look like they have the same symptom “dry skin”

I think that it is psoriatic arthritis.
raw Shea butter has helped me a lot amazon has good psoriasis products for cheap.

Really good to see you describe how they look on different skin tones.
Best wishes.
i have a video on scalp eczema
Can you do tips for Psoriasis of the nails..fingers and toes? Thank you for these tips, I am sure they would help.
A doctor who actually included what a skin condition looks like on a person of colour.....broooooo I knew I liked you
I've been struggling with this issue for a while. The fact that you make this video is means a lot for me. Thank you very much ☺💛
if you have trouble with picking, it can help a lot to just stay on top of cutting your nails and keeping them short.
What types of conditioners should be used with the shampoos that are suggested here?
Great question!
