Honestly, SO many people need to hear this, especially all the infrequent-shampooing cultists. Yes, we get it, you can go months without shampooing. But some of us do need to shampoo every other day, if not everyday, and it’s n o t wrong. Let’s all just do what works best for ourselves.
Yes. I did the no poo thing a few years ago after being convinced via social media that it’s better for you. Little did I know, I have seb derm so it was bad idea, and now I wash nearly everyday. I don’t listen to social media trends anymore.
I absolutely LOVE using a shampoo brush. I could never get my scalp clean enough without one, even though I always need to double cleanse my scalp. Oily skin + hard water = constant buildup. PS, oiling the lengths of hair before using a clarifying shampoo for the scalp can reduce potential damage to the hair.
This! I normally apply a hair mask (usually because I need to detangle my hair when wet) and then shampoo my roots only rinse then condition and when needed do a apple cider vinegar rinse
@@tessahugo1700 whatever my normal shampoo is, but also cycle in a chelating shampoo (I find mine at Sally’s) specifically designed for hard water. I find that products with silicones or too many polyquaternium ingredients quickly build up. For a cheap option for deep cleansing I find that Tresemme Deep Clean 0% works well. I scrub my scalp, not the lengths, and a shampoo brush is a must.
I have an oily scalp. I was washing every day and saw too many youtubers saying it was not good to wash your hair every day. So, when I had a visit to my dermatologist, she asked how often I washed my hair. I told her what I had been trying. She saw sebum buildup and told me if you have an oily scalp you have to wash your hair every day! I've gone every other day and that's all I can bear.
In the previous year, I tested three different well-known hair growth serums. The one that worked the most effectively for me and gave me real result is littlleexttrra reactivate hair growth serum. In just four months, it made a significant difference. I began seeing baby hairs after twelve weeks, and by the 16th week, they were distinctly visible and started to cover the empty area on my scalp.
i reduced the frequency of my hair washes to two or three times a week. i apply the reactivaate serum daily and wash it off with plain water after 10 hours. i use coconioon shampoo and conditioner of litttllextra twice a week. i make sure to get 8 hours of sleep daily and focus on reducing stress. this routine has really helped me, resulting in no hair fall and increased hair growth.
Another good salicylic acid shampoo is the Nizoral Psoriasis Salicylic 3%. It's mild, fragrance-free, lathers well, and doesn't leave the hair dry. I accidentally discovered this while trying to get Neutrogena Tsal which was out of stock everywhere. I ended up getting this and I am fond of it.
Selsun Blue Naturals has salicylic acid and reduces oil. I only wash once per week, but I can go 3 days before any noticeable oiliness at the roots. I only use it at my scalp. I use a different shampoo to get product and dirt out of my hair.
Wish this came out a year ago, lol. my mom is disabled and I took over helping her shower when she moved. She had so much scalp build up that wasn’t taken care of, I felt so bad for her. A good apple cider scalp scrub once a week for a few weeks, a clarifying shampoo as well as patiently combing her hair to lift the dead cells and oil gently- it was a tedious and long process but it made my mom feel human again. Saving this in case it happens again!
I can relate! Something else that is strange but helps with cell turn over is massaging and combing the lotion "am lactin" on scalp, especially around hair line .... Shampoo after or even the following day. It's amazing lotion for skin but found this different use & maybe others can benefit from those of us caring for handicap folks
I’ve never loved you more! I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist ( hairstylist) and esthetician for 17 years. In 2005 or 2006 there was a curly girl book about curly hair that was a huge hit. The book condemned shampooing all together and said to only use conditioner instead when washing and you’d have beautiful, frizz free curls. Hair would have less frizz bc it was oily, layered in product buildup etc. Scalps were very red and irritated, lots of breakouts and dry patches. I know all my good life long female friends got it in their head from this book that shampoo was bad. So sad. Shampoo people! You’ll feel great! Promise.
My daughter bought the book and it was a good thing because we found a stylist who knew how to cut curly hair and offer suggestions for shampoo and conditioner that’s better for her hair.
@@jhwilliams6550Same. Because of that book I avoid sulfates and silicones which was a game changer for my fine, low porosity tightly curly hair. Some stylists swear silicones aren’t bad but MY HAIR hates them. Buildup and dryness. I learned more about how to take care of my hair from that book than in a decades of going to professional stylists. I stopped patronizing them.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but if you have waist length hair or long hair in general, try washing your hair in your sink (easiest with larger sink). I found that I can rinse out my shampoo from my scalp and hair a lot better, I can use cold water without freezing my body, and I save tons of water every wash!
Yes! As someone with curly hair I grew up being told by everyone not to wash my hair more than once a week, but tbh I shampoo almost daily now and my hair and scalp are so much healthier.
@@anunknownperson4018I struggled with this too.. now my face has normalized and isn't as oily as it used to be but my hair is so oily.. i try to shampoo every 2nd day sometimes every day
Do what works for you. I’m curly and wash twice a week. And the second time is a gentle Ayurvedic cleaner. I also don’t use heat to dry my hair and it air dries slowly. I don’t want it to be constantly wet like if I washed daily.
i have curly/wavy/frizzy hair (it depends on the day tbh) does anyone have tips on how to dry it? like do i air dry, use a towel, is there a specific towel type i should use?
Inspired by a suggestion about reaactivate hair serum of liitllextra, I started using it. After finishing four bottles, I’m experiencing new hair growth.
A related topic - scalp sensitivity. It’s physically painful to scrub my scalp. I think I deal with hypersensitivity in general (e.g., I’m “hyper-ticklish”). The sensitivity can be exacerbated by Malassezia growth, I think - years ago switching to Nizoral shampoo 2x/week and that helped calm the sensitivity a little bit. It’s certainly a struggle to balance scalp health with fine, fragile, curly hair.
Found a scalp scrubber for $1.25 at Dollar Tree…works great. Also, I’ll put shampoo on my finger tips and rub it through out my scalp while my hair is dry. Then add water to my hair and use the scrubber followed with a rinse. Helps concentrate shampoo at the scalp. Color my roots every 6 weeks for years now. Shampoo everyday…no way I can not wash my hair after working out.
Yes! Great topic! I use a SA shampoo about once a week. Also, make sure to brush my hair with wet brush which the bristles get to scalp, my other brush never got to the scalp. I never knew this until my head got itchy. Honestly, it was when you said long ago to wash scalp, not so much the hair that really helped me. 💕💙 you have helped me in so many areas of my life. Thank you as always.
@@giuliam2531 I think some people struggle with hearing so much information about how shampooing damages your hair and never being taught how to properly take care of their scalp :(
There's ALOT of hate for sulfates in the natural hair community that is unjustified. I have sebhorric dermatitis on my scalp, so I need sulfates in my wash routine in order to prevent flare ups. Follow up with a good deep conditioner and my scalp has never been better.
It sucks for me because I have psoriasis and sulfates make my psoriasis go bananas. :( I used a Lush shampoo bar and it was like snow in antarctica after a month.
It is not unjustified if the majority of people do well without very harsher sulfates. Its only unjustified for individuals who do well with harsher sulfates
Ugh, my husband and I miss neutrogena's discontinued clarifying shampoo SO much! I started having so many buildup issues once I couldn't find it anywhere. :( It's the worst when your favorite products get discontinued (or re-formulated!)
I ran out and tried to get a bottle at wmart a few weeks ago -- found out it was discontinued. aaaarrrrggggh !!! Why don't they announce these things so we can stock up first? Anyway, Biolage makes an amazing clarifying shampoo if that helps you guys. Used to be called Alternate Action, now renamed to Clean Reset.
It’s double shampooing that saved me from dandruff. I use redken’s acidic bonding shampoo, twice. And I wash my hair every three days. My oil production is more controlled and my scalp flakes have completely stopped-which is really saying something because I’ve had dandruff for 2+ years.
@@cudderkid1336 It depends also on what products you use. I used once shampoo with ginger and I got itchy scalp, so I use that shampoo for cleaning ny hair brushes and hair clips.
I love T-Sal shampoo. Really helps my occasionally itchy scalp and I think it helps with product build-up. I am going to try adding a weekly clarifying wash too.
Had bad breakouts and oily dandruff for forever. After lots of mediocre natural and at home stuff. Finally i went to the dermatologist i got an antibiotic that cleared it up in a week. I soon discovered that scalp care with the at home routine such as t sal is maintenance for the scalp after my antibiotic. The antibiotic was a jumpstart i needed to let the routines be effective. They werent mediocre it was just not the right situation kf use. It became preventative and maintenance instead of treatment. Maybe in mild cases treatment but if its affecting you like me to where i gave in to see the dermatologist i would recommend the derm appt. Then follow what i did if you have something similar. I have wet wavy/dry curly hair and am mixed.
In case you have psoriasis on scalp - definitely try a tar shampoo (coal or pine tar). A lot of my family members have psoriasis and everyone is saying that the only shampoo that helps them is the tar one.
Make sure this stays away from your eyes though. This is only formulated for the scalp, not other parts of your body. It smells really bad, but you really can't smell it much once you rinse it out and your hair dries. My partner has used it for years.
@@jammies1431 Haha, I actually really like the tar smell :)) Besides the shampoo, I also use a tar hand soap, which is great if you have psoriasis on hands.
@@sirtsupirtsu That is great! My fiance was put through the steroid ringer and multiple medications with serious side effects until he was able to get on an immunotherapy drug. So expensive he immediately hits his deductible by his second shot every year. Psoriasis can be so debilitating. So glad both of you found some great options!
I was making a product list for hair and scalp hair yesterday evening…and now you posted this today! Thank you so much! Can’t wait to see a positive change for my hair
Hi I'm Loretta De Los Rios using Frank's account to make this comment with his permission. I agree! many people are not washing their hair enough! 🙏🤲⚘👋 They have been told there is less damage on hair. But this is a misconception because yes Dr. Dray the scalp definitely needs cleaning.
I got dandruff from not washing my hair so often, but it was solved with a Dercos brand dandruff shampoo, which is from Vichy, has salicylic acid and selenium. It's very good, I massaged myself very well and let it act for 10 minutes. I used it for a few days and the dandruff was solved. Thank you doctor Dray
Dr. Dray, so many people need to hear this. I’ve been in public so many times & have smelled dirty hair on people. 🤢. People actually “Brag” about being “able” to go so Long without washing their hair!!! Even the beauty operators at salons Unbelievable!!!!!! Thank you so much Dr.!!!! Jana - Texas. I bought That scalp massager!!! Love it
I needed to hear this. I have been trying this curly hair routine or whatever it is and honestly, I feel like over the last year I have less hair growth and my head is always itchy. I think I'll go back to shampooing my hair every 2-3 days. Thank you!
Careful with plopping! I did the wavy methods for a while and ended up causing yeast issues on my scalp, it SMELLED bad I couldn't figure out why, tried so many things to fix it, and I finally realized my mistake when doc here said in a short to not leave hair wet and plopped overnight because it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. It all clicked suddenly haha jeez.
I've been using a scalp mask weekly for my drandruff that has salicylic acid, pineapple enzyme, and piroctone olamine in it and it's made such a huge difference in my hair, i also use a chelating shampoo since i live in a hard water area which helps massively too
I was always an every other day washer but even with that, my hair did not look good the next day. I started using Olaplex 3, amika’s soul food mask (alternate the two) and Virtue’s density booster and now my hair looks really good for several days. I only shampoo twice a week now. I am amazed at how effective they have been for me since I am a low maintenance Head and Shoulder’s girl but Dr Sam Ellis’s channel convinced me to try fancier hair products for hair health.
I just discovered Dermarest salicylic acid shampoo and I love it. Has conditioners built in and it leaves my hair feeling very nice. It’s less expensive than some of the other medicated shampoos too.
Thank you I needed this!! I recently tried a sample of a scalp scrub and as soon as I started using I was like ohh no this was a bad idea. It stuck to my hair felt like it never reached my scalp. I have thick curly hair and I was like I’m never gonna get this out. So I will def be trying these tips. I’ve now decided not to waste the sample but to use it on my feet. It may be ok for straight fine hair girls but def not me and my hair. So thank you! Hope my crazy ramblings made sense!! Love you Dr Dray thank you for always keeping us informed and sharing your knowledge with us!
I wash and condition my color treated hair every day. Never had an issue. I don't use a clarifying shampoo but have been thinking to add one in weekly. This video came at the perfect time. Thanks Dr Dray! Happy Tuesday!! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💗
I’m Black and have tightly curly hair. I wash twice a week. I use a gentler Ayurvedic poo bar the second time as this wash is to clean my scalp but also to refresh my curls. The Shampoo brush at Dollar Tree works great.
I’m assuming you might now a lot about this topic since you left multiple comments… I’m hoping you can help me! I went thru a long depressive period and didn’t wash my hair. My scalp is a hot mess. I think it’s a mixture of dandruff and dryness but I’m not sure. I tried acv but I could’ve done it wrong. I also used a clarifying shampoo and that didn’t get any of the gunk off either. I find it hard to get at since my hair is so long. Maybe I’m wrong for expecting it to be all gone with a wash and in reality it takes multiple times doing the same thing for it to be gone. Again idk if you’ll know the answer but it’s worth asking! Thank you in advance!! I also have hard water so idk if that’s effecting my outcome.
I used to shampoo daily As I age with dry skin dry hair and sensitivity i have found changing shampoo and conditioner beneficial I normally shampoo every other day now with shampoo and conditioners that are more moisturizing Watch those scented products UGH😢 A water softener in the home has been a very positive experience for my skin and hair. THANK YOU DR DRAY😊
I used to have dryness, itchiness and dandruff (since college age), then I started Nizoral. Washed with it 2 times, poof gone! I still use Nizoral once a week for maintenance, tho if I just use regular shampoo for weeks, they still havent come back. Felt like magic lol. But now first time in my life my scalp gets really oily. At first I thought it was a diet thing, maybe the hair supplements causing it (stopped using them). Also this taught me if your scalp gets all oily, it takes more water and shampoo to lather and get that cleaned out 😅 I started using salicylic acid leave on treatment before shower (like leaving it at least 3 hours upto sleeping with it and washing in the morning). I think it really helped with cutting down the oil buildup between washes. I've never been a no-poo girl, even though I have curly hair, had dryness/frizz (all those CGM rules blahblah). No way with the dandruff I used to have lol 😂 Tho I never washed my hair everyday, I mean my 2nd day hair usually looks best anyway. I think I'm just gonna add one more only scalp wash over bathtub as well. Seems like this is the way.
YES!! I love that you hit the nail with the topics I need lately ❤❤ I've been having a bad build-up lately, and nothing seems to be working :( It always feels irritated by wash day. glad to know I'm in the right direction except for frequency... unfortunately I have thick and long straight hair (like 10 lbs) with low water pressure so washing my hair takes like an hour and I don't have time for that every day 😞 thank you for talking about it though!
I have found only washing my scalp (though the upper part of my hair gets wet, too) over a sink or bathtub really helpful - the scalp gets clean, but I don't have to deal with washing and drying the rest of the hair every time.
@@violetviolet888 I have, many times, and having beautiful luscious hair continues to win 😭 I usually keep it at medium-long but I get a lot of compliments now that it's longer. I'm getting a trim next week and I always ask for thinning with layers at least.
I found a coconut oil treatment at the body shop that made my hair AMAZING. I made the decision to leave it in my hair occasionally and then started realizing that when I wasn't at work I could just rinse my hair and add more. Here's how I saw it. The oil blended with the oils on my scalp, so as I rinsed a lot of it would go down the drain. The dandruff that I got was so extraordinary. I skipped right over head and shoulders and went straight to the coal tar stuff. I understand it might be unhealthy but it itched so badly. Lesson learned (my head itches now)
Thank you for making this video. Scalp itchiness & stress lead me to pull my hair out. My derm told me the same stuff you said in this video, especially with using T Sal or T Gel, but i think you really helped me understand the causes of the itchiness & that shampooing more regularly is important.
The scalp cleansing brush would help prevent natural fingernails tearing and help nail polish to stay on. However, I do enjoy the feeling of washing my scalp (twice) with the tips of my fingers though. The brush is worth trying to see if it is beneficial for scalp and hair care. 👱♀️❤
I double wash too. First shampoo, I use the silicone brush to release dandruff or other junk in hair. Second shampoo is fingers only. It feels so clean after. I follow up with a good conditioner mid length to ends only.

My hair got thinner as the result of medication and then got super oily because I had less hair to distribute the oil. I've always been a daily shampoo girl. I'm going to try this because I do get build-up from styling products. Thanks!
I noticed that my hair was suddenly falling off a lot. I read up some info from Google and I realized that it's perhaps I had not rinsed long enough recently. Thanks so very much for helping us ♥️
Thank you Andrea. My daughter & I are both dealing w/scaling scalp buildup, bumps & patches of large dry hurtfull scabs over hair follicle strands. I also suffer from BP230 which is an added problem. Hey Dr. Dray, speaking of scalp/hair; have you ever done a video on leave in conditioners? I'd love to hear your thoughts on them and if you have any recommendations.
When I was growing up my mom put some shampoo in a plastic cup and added water. We used less shampoo and it lathered better. Good for these stressful times as everything is getting more expensive.
Any advice for a hairfall? It would be great if you could make a video talking about silicones, sulfate, etc to hair products. Ive been avoiding them because they say its bad for hair or will make your hair thinner in the long run.

I have seborrheic dermatitis, I had surgery recently and I couldn't shower for a few days. I had my hubby help me shampoo my scalp because by day 3 I couldn't stand it. My scalp was so itchy and I call it a breakout, there were patches all over that were oily and flaky all over, I use a scalp brush thing and it helps a lot. Once I have a breakout it takes months to get it to go away. I use Selsun Blue and the scalp brush and I usually wash my hair daily because my scalp just doesn't like not being super clean. I use a good conditioner every time and my hair is healthy, I rarely get split ends.

Thank you for the tips, Dr. Dray! 🥰 I’ve been using the Vanicream Pyrithione Zinc 2% Dandruff Shampoo for Sensitive Skin (formerly known as Free & Clear) 1-2 times a week and it does a really good job of keeping itchy, dry scalp at bay.
Very informative as usual. Thank you. Couple of questions for you regarding hair. This could be a couple of videos 🙂 1) How necessary are conditioners. How long to put on scalp. How to identify good ones ? What ingredients. 2) Do you recommend hair mask over conditioner ? Any recommendation for leave in conditioner 3) Can I just use like regular salicylic acid face wash on my hair (like the laroche posey) 4) Why can't I just use my body wash on my hair ? Are the ingredients in shampoo different. 5) I am south asian and I have found that my hair is pretty dry even if I use a good conditioner. And no product out there does a reasonable job of keeping my hair not dry. I have tried expensive products like moroccanoil (which has very little actual oil). The only thing that works for me is a couple of drops of oil. Of late I have started using rosemary oil. I read that there is data to show it promotes hair growth. Any thoughts on this please.
It's like the universe needed me to see this. I've been struggling with break-out like bumps on the back of my head. My new derm mentioned TSal shampoo, but I forgot all about it until seeing this video.
I get really hot when I sleep and noticed bumps on the back of my head, too -- I switched to a stay-cool pillow and a satin pillowcase, and no more problems! (also use T-Sal once a week)
This video is super helpful. I tried the once a week wash but I feel like it messed up my scalp. It’s been itchy ever since. Now I’m washing it more frequently to get back to healthy. I like the Brigeo Scalp Revival Shampoo. I’m using it once a week only and regular shampoo the other days.
I wash my hair every second day with Vanicream free and clear shampoo and conditionor. Then I use Neutragena Anti residue shampoo 1-2 times a week to help get any hair pomade or any other hair products that may build up. :)
I used to have permanent dandruff even using Head & Shoulders. A dermatologist prescribed me a special shampoo. Didn’t work so then he got me on some pills that reduced the greasiness from both my face and scalp. My dandruff disappeared while on these pills but when I stopped (there was a max amount of time I could be on them), the dandruff came back. I went back to head & shoulders since at least it eliminated the itchiness. I was really surprised when I accidentally discovered that using a shampoo brush + head & shoulders did remove my dandruff completely. I’m finally flake-free now :)
@@Bea_Rosy I don't remember because it was years ago, but what I do remember is that he mentioned it was a derivative of Vitamin A, and social security in my country did provide those pills for free with his prescription.
Thank you for this. There’s so many individuals walking around with a greasy dirty scalp and hair. I’m talking about those that don’t believe in washing their hair. Their hair looks limp and gross. It just looks like they haven’t bathed in months. They smell and have terrible BO. Gross. I can’t wait for this trend to go away already.
Another effective but unusual shampoo as well as face and body wash is black soap. Yes it looks black but lathers non color so no worries. Its AMAZING for gentle exfoliation on the face to clear skin while keeping it soft and supple. Its great for gentle scalp exfoliation while keeping hair moisturized too 😘
I have an extremely oily scalp. My sebum is also very thick. It’s so difficult to find a shampoo that actually removes everything with just one wash. I just can’t believe people who rarely ever wash their hair. It’s disgusting and smelly. I stopped counting the amounts of time I’ve been told I should wash my hair less because that would make it less oily. I’ve listened to those people and I walked around with super disgusting greasy hair and constant painful pimples on my head because the pores got clogged.

A little bit of baking soda sprinkled in the palm of your hand with shampoo does wonders. Removes scalp build up & relieves itchies. I keep a box in m shower just for this.

Dr dray I have not tried a hydro facial scalp treatment, but I went to salon that offers a scalp treatment that helps removes build up from the scalp. So far have only done 1 treatment. Thank you so much Dr Dray for the advice. Would you have any advice for best conditioning methods for african-american type hair that has to be washed 2-3 times a week to prevent build up? I feel my hair is always so frizzy when I wash more often
I stopped coloring my hair a year ago and my gray is growing out alot but I can vouch for the fact it feels so good on my scalp to shampoo every other day with deep cleansing shampoos and I don't have to worry about fading hair color. My scalp got alot healthier. I have psoriasis so the hair coloring was so bad for me that I had alot of hair loss. That has gotten better alot since not coloring. If I go past every other day shampooing then my hair roots start to hurt literally and burn. I use Nizoral (reg) shampoo alternating with a regular one. I condition only the ends. I also started Rogaine a year ago and helped my hair line come back.
That neutrogena T/Sal I got at Walgreens literally relieved it after one wash it worked so well I had such a gross build up that looked even liked scabbing but realized it was this!!! Highly recommend that cheap easy bottle has 3% of Salicylic Acid. Highly recommend because even regular shampooing didn’t help get rid of it once it got to that point and it was even on a specific part of the hair. I’m not sure how you feel about salt scrubs for the scalp but I use one with a shampoo brush and omg, it’s amazing. I use it once a week or once every 2 weeks and follow with a deep conditioner.

I've found a scalp brush helpful I have trouble with arms and fingers.
Folks, this is NOT Dr. Dray posting and you have won nothing - this is a scammer pretending to be Dr. Dray! Beware!
@@CL-mn1yq that's such a good idea. im totally trying that.
Promise.
I agree with you!
I'm pretty sure all the people you describe have tried shampoo. I have. It makes my hair dry as straw.
My daughter bought the book and it was a good thing because we found a stylist who knew how to cut curly hair and offer suggestions for shampoo and conditioner that’s better for her hair.
I assume you are talking about Deva Curl but didn’t mention they make a low poo which is a gentle cleanser.
I have medium length hair I wash my hair sink half the time
Same!
Yes! As someone with curly hair I grew up being told by everyone not to wash my hair more than once a week, but tbh I shampoo almost daily now and my hair and scalp are so much healthier.
I have straight hair and my hair is so oily that i need to wash it everyday plus my face is also oily
This is so real
I simply use Cocoonioon oil and Reactivate serum by Littlellextra, and my hair feels so thick and beautiful.
Vouching for Nizoral! Really great for relieving inflammation.
In Japan there are “head spa”’s where the whole point is to clean the scalp. They use a magnifying camera to show before and after.
That was my first thought when I saw this video. I would love to go to one.
So glad to hear this has helped 👍🏼
👱♀️❤
I use the salicylic acid in squalane from The Ordinary on my scalp 30min before I shampoo and it works wonders for itchy scalp.
As a hairstylist I appreciate this. So many people are not washing their hair enough. So gross!
Thanks for watching
@@DrDrayzday the no poo movement is not good. Back in the day we liked to color hair that wasn’t freshly washed. Actually, still do. But not filthy!!
I hear from my hairdresser that people will go in with dirty hair to get it styled (no washing of course). Ugh
@@giuliam2531 I think some people struggle with hearing so much information about how shampooing damages your hair and never being taught how to properly take care of their scalp :(
I wash every 3 days. Is that gross for you? 😅 I actually wash Tuesdays and Fridays to be exact
Definitely needed this video. I have scalp issues and its nice to know how best to deal with it. Thanks Dr Dray. 🌺 Love your tennis dress btw. 💗

There's ALOT of hate for sulfates in the natural hair community that is unjustified. I have sebhorric dermatitis on my scalp, so I need sulfates in my wash routine in order to prevent flare ups. Follow up with a good deep conditioner and my scalp has never been better.
Lab Muffin did a video on this not too long ago. She also said people have taken the sulfate hate too far and that they serve a purpose.
I swear by T/Sal and then T/Gel when I was dealing with scalp psoriasis. They work and you can even dilute it. It’s the best on the market
Half water Half Apple Cider Vinegar on your wet hair for a few minutes, massage it in, then shampoo out. Perfect scalp and hair color is fine.❤️
I also miss the Neutrogena Anti-Residue. It was so effective and worked well for my extremely dry, curly hair.
Cried when you said I couldn’t use the head scrubber I was so excited to use one 😢 ~ a psoriasis victim
I feel you one of my fave shampoo was discontinued I hate when they discontinue them
Try nizoral
This was my fav shampoo too! I hope theyre reformulating and will release it again.
I hate that.
It’s double shampooing that saved me from dandruff. I use redken’s acidic bonding shampoo, twice. And I wash my hair every three days. My oil production is more controlled and my scalp flakes have completely stopped-which is really saying something because I’ve had dandruff for 2+ years.
Double shampooing has given me the itchiest scalp ever. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😢
@@cudderkid1336 It depends also on what products you use. I used once shampoo with ginger and I got itchy scalp, so I use that shampoo for cleaning ny hair brushes and hair clips.
I have one of those scalp exfoliators & it's made of silicone. It's so gentle, & feels amazing, so I 100% recommend getting one.
I love T-Sal shampoo. Really helps my occasionally itchy scalp and I think it helps with product build-up. I am going to try adding a weekly clarifying wash too.
It does dry out my hair though
i had a bad reaction to it, my scalp got so itchy and i got a bunch of scalp acne.
Yes, Neutrogena has not only T/Sal they also have T/Gel with coal tar, it smells though but nothing out of control bad.
I wish I could use tar based shampoo but I have alot of gray hair/white hair and it will yellow white hair alot.
I was making a product list for hair and scalp hair yesterday evening…and now you posted this today! Thank you so much! Can’t wait to see a positive change for my hair
Fellow Black people y’all need to shampoo at least once a week. Not every month and stop the co washing and raw oils and butters.

You can also install filter into your shower head. Usually it has some stones in it to filter out things from your bath water
I LOVE coal tar shampoo! It eliminates itch and seems to condition my hair, making it silky smooth and detangles.
This scalp brush has been seriously miraculous for me. It gives me 2 extra days before my hair gets greasy
Plus they feel amazing!
I used a Scalp massager shampoo brush for the first time & my scalp felt the cleanest ever.👍
🤢. People actually
“Brag” about being “able” to go so
Long without washing their hair!!!
Even the beauty operators at salons
Unbelievable!!!!!! Thank you so much Dr.!!!! Jana - Texas. I bought
That scalp massager!!! Love it
I needed to hear this.
I'm so so interested in the scalp Hydrafacial, PLEASE do one for a video!! And show the gunkie that comes out at the end!!
I forgot to tell you how much I learn from your videos. You are a gift!!! Dot
Thanks for watching
Hahahaha! YES. The scrubs are definitely not for curly girls.
I have super thick wavy hair and tried the scalp scrub too, have no idea how people could use it.
It helps me to do an extra rinse of shampoo vs shampooing more often during the week. I find that helps with the oiliness, too.
I wash and condition my color treated hair every day. Never had an issue. I don't use a clarifying shampoo but have been thinking to add one in weekly. This video came at the perfect time. Thanks Dr Dray! Happy Tuesday!! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💗
The new Olaplex clarifying shampoo (it’s in a blue bottle) is the BEST. Highly recommend. My hair has never felt better!
Thank you, Christina! 😊
I’m Black and have tightly curly hair. I wash twice a week. I use a gentler Ayurvedic poo bar the second time as this wash is to clean my scalp but also to refresh my curls. The Shampoo brush at Dollar Tree works great.
Spraying scalp with ACV once a week before shampooing works excellent as scalp clarifyer, especially with hard water ~
Thanks for watching

I found a coconut oil treatment at the body shop that made my hair AMAZING. I made the decision to leave it in my hair occasionally and then started realizing that when I wasn't at work I could just rinse my hair and add more.
Here's how I saw it. The oil blended with the oils on my scalp, so as I rinsed a lot of it would go down the drain.
The dandruff that I got was so extraordinary. I skipped right over head and shoulders and went straight to the coal tar stuff. I understand it might be unhealthy but it itched so badly. Lesson learned
(my head itches now)
Frequent washing of the pillowcase helps too.
This is more for men or women with short hair
Hi Dr. Dray and everyone!
Such great information on scalp care.
A lot of things to help keep our scalp heathy and clean. 😀
Hello, I've been watching your channel literally hours ago. I am practicing at a young age to learn how to become a general physician. I subscribed to your YT! I'm trying to gain knowledge from all different types of Health Sciences.
I added 1/4 tsp (x2) of Borax to my shampoo bottle, and my scalp, and hair feel so light and clean.
Borax is antifungal and antibacterial; basically, a salt.
After +10 years of seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, terrible itching, trying all the medicated shampoos, all tips and tricks, i finally got a suggestion for Dercos by Vichy. Changed my life
My hair got thinner as the result of medication and then got super oily because I had less hair to distribute the oil. I've always been a daily shampoo girl. I'm going to try this because I do get build-up from styling products. Thanks!
i am starting minoxidil
This Neutrogena is one of the terrific shampoo
I noticed that my hair was suddenly falling off a lot. I read up some info from Google and I realized that it's perhaps I had not rinsed long enough recently. Thanks so very much for helping us ♥️

I recently added a bit of baking soda to my shampoo and dove soap. All that extra build up on the scalp and the skin gone!

Very informative as usual. Thank you.
Couple of questions for you regarding hair. This could be a couple of videos 🙂
1) How necessary are conditioners. How long to put on scalp. How to identify good ones ? What ingredients.
2) Do you recommend hair mask over conditioner ? Any recommendation for leave in conditioner
3) Can I just use like regular salicylic acid face wash on my hair (like the laroche posey)
4) Why can't I just use my body wash on my hair ? Are the ingredients in shampoo different.
5) I am south asian and I have found that my hair is pretty dry even if I use a good conditioner. And no product out there does a reasonable job of keeping my hair not dry. I have tried expensive products like moroccanoil (which has very little actual oil). The only thing that works for me is a couple of drops of oil. Of late I have started using rosemary oil. I read that there is data to show it promotes hair growth. Any thoughts on this please.
I’m so pleased watching your videos every day. Thank you so much for all of these information Dr.Dray. I have learned a lot from your videos. ❤

I get really hot when I sleep and noticed bumps on the back of my head, too -- I switched to a stay-cool pillow and a satin pillowcase, and no more problems! (also use T-Sal once a week)
I have thick, coarse, dry hair. The Sheila Stotts detangling brush is the best for reaching my scalp. No other brush compares. Have a great day.
What were the tablets called? Was it spironolactone?

Yes! Just wash your hair people! These dry shampoos have recently been under fire. Concern about ingredients.
Dr Dray - you're on point again with your content !! I really appreciate the breadth and depth you go into with your topics and this episode is another excellent case in point. Always - the context given with juicy facts and unique anecdotes aid our understanding. Thank you - so very much appreciated. Stay well and positive. Hello from London : - )
A little bit of baking soda sprinkled in the palm of your hand with shampoo does wonders. Removes scalp build up & relieves itchies. I keep a box in m shower just for this.
So I have Seborrheic dermatitis and suffer from hair loss so my scalp can get pretty oily. Dr dray I have not tried a hydro facial scalp treatment, but I went to salon that offers a scalp treatment that helps removes build up from the scalp. So far have only done 1 treatment. They usually recommend 3-5 hopefully it helps.
Hi! Thanks for this video! I was just wondering if the Neutrogena T-Sal shampoo is safe for color treated hair? I was thinking of purchasing. Thanks!
Definitely would say everyone needs a bottle around in case it happens to them I’m shocked how well it worked. (I wash my hair almost daily from workouts)

I was so meant to watch this today ! I have recently been seeing some dandruff and build up on my curly hair scalp, however it looks more like dry skin. Not sure but I am trying the shampoo brush and some clarifying shampoo. I do use a ton of styling products on my curly hair, so I’m sure I have build up from time to time.
