I appreciate how thorough you are in your explanations.
I swear, this video came just the right time for me.
Thank you, Dr. Dray! You are awesome! ❤
Hi Dr. Dray, I’ve had hair loss since my 20s; it was blamed on birth control pill. The years have gone by and birth control hasn’t been used for ages. About three years ago I started getting scabs on my scalp, but only top front of head; with a terrible itch as if I had ants crawling inside my scalp. Long story short dermatologists recommended prescription clobetasol for the itch which did work, but it didn’t take care of the scabs. Until I found your channel! I’ve been using the 1% Nizoral for the past two months or so, what a difference to my scalp, no scabs or itch. Last week I started on the 2% which I will use 2-3 times a week. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your valuable knowledge. Keep safe
That is perfect timing thank you. Been thinking of trying something to slow down the loss of hair.
Dr. Dray, this hairstyle looks fab on you!
Ketoconazole "healed" my seborrheic eczema and I have also been diagnosed with PCOS so I am very happy to hear that I might also be helping my scalp with hair loss! :D
I am so grateful for this video. Thanks Doc!
Great video. Very informative, straight forward and honest about results.
Speaking of hair, I LOVE that style on you!
Thank you so much! I have tried everything for the last 4 years. All the pills, foams and shampoos, Purador, Nioxin, etc.... no noticeable difference until I watched this video. My hair loss has noticeably decreased since using Nizoral. I would not be exaggerating if I said the hair loss is 90% less with . I still have very thin hair, but working on one issue instead of 2 is easier and so much less stressful. Thank you. 🙏🏻
I think you are excellent and some of the most informative info I’ve ever seen for my kinky hair. You’re directly to the point.
TFS another informative video. Your knowledge has helped so many of us.😊❤
I’ve just started using Nizoral this week and OMG it has been a revelation to me! I’ve been having a really horrible flare up of seb derm and even my salicylic acid shampoo/face cleanser(because I have it on both scalp and face) hasn’t been helping as much as it usually would. I dunno about the hair loss aspect but I’ve been recommending it to everyone with seb derm or just itchy scalp so this is another possibility to convey to people.
Great information Dr Dray!
Thank you for all your helpful and honest information .
This shampoo actually is my go to shampoo and at times body wash to prevent fungal acne from my workouts thanks to you. Has worked great
Thank you for your recommendation regarding the scalp massager. It feels so good! The Nizoral you recommend has been a life saver. I did not have dandruff , but I had really unpleasant itching that has mostly gone away. I appreciate your advice- thank you!
What scalp massager was that? I can’t find where she said that! Thx
Dr. Dray had recommended the Heeta hair scalp massager brush sold on Amazon in one of her videos. It may have been under an Amazon find video she put out. She had mentioned how you need less shampoo using it. I, personally, just enjoy the way it feels. I believe Nizoral is being sold sometimes together with a hair massager, the Heeta or another.@@Melinda8162

Very useful information; many thanks.
I have a rosemary hair oil and I’m not convinced it’s working but it may be. I’m going to look into some of these shampoos, thank you!
Such a vital topic 💜💜💜
thanks for watching
Dr. Dray, I would be so interested in hearing what you think about the added beneficial/detrimental health effects of using products like Toppik to camo hair loss.
I have inflamed hair follicles, dr said use this and was on an antibiotic for a bit. Worked great! I use this in my rotation. 1 weekly or e/o week!
Your hair has gotten so full and luscious lately 😊 you should do a video of what you have personally done for your own hair in the past year. It looks super full and healthy.
Shampoo alone can't do much for hair loss, but if you're suffering, don't lose hope. I've had aggressive hair loss, and even my family has a history of it. I managed to keep 90% of my hair with minoxidil and microneedling. I believe DHT is linked to blood circulation (DHT cause inflammation which block oxygen and Blood supply = kill the follicle), At first I started with a roller without any results, once I switched to a high-quality pen results started to kick in. It worked for me and my mom in her 60s (She used 2% though). Be consistent, use a good pen, and don't skip sessions. if it worked for me, It can work for everyone.
I hear more and more people who have huge success with microneedling, can you share the brand of your Pen that you are using please? thanks for this comment btw!

She definitely not saying shampoo alone is end all .. she has tons of videos on hair loss but not everyone needs all the extra ❤
+1 for kora, I am using the device for about 2.5 years now. once i added kora to my routine I noticed massive growth after about two months
Do you lose hair again when stop taking topical minoxidil? Also, did it affect your hormones?
This stuff smoothed my skin on my face - clears fungal acne.
Just love this informative RUclips video. Thanks so much
This video is perfect timing because, as a newly menopausal woman, I have been experiencing hair thinning due to high free testosterone. I sat in my dermatologist's office yesterday for this very issue. She gave me several options like what you mentioned here. My job was to make a decision on what I wanted to do. I needed to research these suggestions. Thank you, Dr. Dray, for your help today with this video. 💗
Hi Jennifer. What labs did you have your doctor run? I am going through the same thing with my hair thinning and falling out like crazy, but I don't see my doctor until December.
Perfectly timed? This shampoo has been out for decades it isn't something NEW
After my hysterectomy & oophorectomy in '17 I started losing hair on the top and front of my head. I hate it!! I just recently started using topical minoxidil.
@@bumpakthe video is perfect timing 🙄
Go see an Endocrinologist. See one focusing on hormones.
I was diagnosed with androgenic alopecia and definitely noticed less shedding with 2% ketoconazole shampoo. I also take oral finasteride (5 mg), which has helped a lot as well with no side effects thank god. Oddly enough, I tried biotin recently and noticed *more* shedding after that. Same thing with rosemary water. Very strange and it's still pretty upsetting when that happens. Sticking with the ketoconazole shampoo, though, for sure.
Very informative, thank you, doctor
Thank you for covering scalp/ hair issues! I always thought my family and I were so unlucky... It's comforting to find a community who has also dealt with these issues!!
I feel like every time i go to the dermatologist about it, their first options are pills, even after i don't like them. I like to try other options... And you have given me that! ❤
Your videos are so helpful Dr. Dray!! Thanks for posting
I use minoxidil and the iRestore Laser helmet. You have to stay consistent. I use the helmet, as instructed, every other day. The minoxidil I use at least on the other day or every day. Great results.
I've been using Nizoral for a long time now and hairloss is a big fear of mine so I'm glad I came across this video, never knew of these benefits
Thank you Dr Dray! 😊
Nizoral is a great shampoo for scalp issues. I have an entire medecine cabinet of Rx creams for skin issues & my scalp became very itchy & inflamed requiring a prescription steroid shampoo & scalp treatment. When our health insurance stopped covering it, I started using Nizoral once a week. Not only has it helped the itching/inflammation, it has helped my hair density & reduced the amount of hair I lost every time I washed it. It is also gentle on color treated hair. Many dandruff shampoos have coal tar & other ingredients which can strip /fade/change your haircolor. So yeah, if you have eczema or seb derm or issues with yeast, Nizoral is a great product that can also potentially help with hair loss too.
Thank you this is the information. I was wondering how it would affect color treated hair as I used to use mynoxidil years with good results but recently quit because it immediately turned my hair color
Back in the early 90’s I traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico and purchased a tonic in the street marquet (tianguis) called Hongosol. It smelled like iodine and garlic. The lady selling it swore it cured nail fungus. I bought it for my dad for around $1. I knew dandruff was often fungus related so I decided to use it for my severe flaky dandruff. The solution worked in three uses and I’ve never had that kind of severe dandruff since. It’s been 30 years. My hair is still dandruff free. I am now suffering from thinning hair and oily scalp. They don’t sell the same product anymore so I’ll try nizoral and see what happens.
Thank you so much for all this info!!
Thank you as alway very honest information ❤
I (a woman) had a horrible experience with 5% minoxidil where I actually lost hair. After using it for over a year on my temple areas, I started to get raised sores and psoriasis-type plaques! I stopped the minoxidil and started using Nizoral and oral pumpkin seed oil. I now have lots of baby hairs filling in the bald areas.
Where did you get oral pumpkin seed oil? Does it have any side effects that you've noticed? Thanks.
Oh my God that's amazing!!!!! Congrats ^^
I'm gonna try it then. Do you have any advice or recommendation?
What kind of mynoxidil did you use? Those plagues can come from spray form, but foam doesn't cause them 😊
Same here, I used spray minoxidil for years but suddenly I became allergic. Tried different companies but all gave me rashes or dermatitis
@@user-vy3mz5sq3c that is not because of minoxidil. That's because of propylene glycol that every spray holds.
I was using original regaine foam, and then decided to switch to a spray from not original producer (recommended by my dermatologist). In about a year I got a harsh skin reaction on my head, like allergy mixed with dandruff, and also lost the progress that I had. All the symptoms were gone without any special treatment as soon as I switched back to the foam form.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you Dr Dray!
Thanks again Dr. Dray
I have androgenetic alopecia and minoxidil never worked for me, however I’ve been on daily oral finasteride for almost 8 months. No side effects thankfully. And I’ve noticed my roots feel denser and stronger, my scalp doesn’t feel as sensitive as before, and overall my hair sheds less. I think it definitely does slow/prevent follicle miniaturization, and with time can help strengthen and maintain the hair you still have on your scalp. I do like to use Nizoral 2% shampoo as well from time to time as a conjunction treatment. I lather it first, leave it on minimum 2 minutes before rinsing it out. I definitely do agree that, regardless, it is important to keep realistic expectations with any of the treatments you mentioned!
YOUR THE ONLY PERSON HEAR THAT HAVE SENSE AMAZING 😃,people like you make me wake and feel happy. YOU ARE AMAZING
Like most products and ingredients in my life, I’ve been using this shampoo as per your recommendation for about a year now! I will always take your recommendations with me to the grave! Happy Tuesday!

did the shampooo work?????????
Has the shampoo been working
THAT IS WHAT I WANNA KNOW LOL@@midlifemom5829
Is it working?
I love Nizoral shampoo! I use it daily for scalp health and to combat dandruff. By the way, you are glowing Dr Dray!
Daily is way to much....2 times a week max is suggested
With Nizoral shampoo is there a good conditioner to use with it? That won’t negate
@@mr.perksy I am sure any conditioner would be fine. It is a treatment shampoo and that is why you leave it on the scalp for five min. It is working on the fungus then.
If you have dandruff or any scalp buildup (seborrheic dermatitis), then dandruff shampoo can absolutely stop hairloss. That’s been my experience, even though I have what looks like androgenic alopecia. Seb Derm can be tricky to treat, however, because the scalp develops resistance to the active ingredient in the shampoo. So most people rotate active ingredients (zinc, selenium, keto, etc.). Prewashing with vinegar also helps, as does MTC oil.
She recommended switching around
I've been using Ketoconazole shampoo for psoriasis for YEARS, 2%, and I leave it in for 7+ mins. I've lost so much hair in that time. I've tried Monoxidil and it makes my hair look terrible and it irritates my psoriasis. In addition I have to inject a medication monthly for migraine one of the main side effects of that medication is hair loss, so basically I'm screwed. Dr. Dray was so right to validate the feelings of hair loss, especially in women. It's horrible. I finally purchased some clip in bangs (my hair loss is mostly in the front right around my face) and I feel more confident in public now. Good luck in your journey!
Try using vitamin e oil on your psoriasis. I dealt with scalp psoriasis and was losing patches of hair. Two dermatologists and multiple RX meds and shampoos didn’t help. In an act of desperation I popped a few vit e pills on a dry patch that was particularly irritating me. It was gone within two days. So I started using vit e on my scalp for every area of psoriasis. Completely cleared! And my hair grew back. Now whenever I feel an episode coming on, like a slight itch with a little redness, I use a vit e pill to prevent any further skin issues. Works every time. Twenty plus years doing this.
@@erpo3549 I'm so happy that worked for you!!! Unfortunately I'm allergic to Vit E topically so I can't try it.
I was recommended Nizoral about 20 years ago by my dermatologist for hair shedding. It took awhile but it minimized my shedding fairly well if used consistently. It also makes my hair feel fluffy.
any chance you also dye your hair? i’m wondering if it’ll fade color
and silica vitamins.. bamboo, green beans etc. that is the best vitamin you can take..idc what anyone says..i will take the bet vs anyone that silica beats your biotin or any other pill

I have used Rogaine for 10 plus years to keep the hair I have. I started adding Ketconozol about a year ago as prescribed by my derm. I used the shampoo once a week. Seems to help some with hair loss. Thanks for the video!
Is it ok to use colour to dye hair while using Minoxidil?
I wait a couple of days after I color my hair before using Minoxidil. My scalp gets itchy if it don’t wait because both products dried out my scalp. Other then those couple of days, I use minoxidil everyday.
What about ketoconazole cream? Does that help as well?

Is It Bad to Wash Your Hair Every Day?
By Jancee Dunn
* Published June 6, 2023 Updated June 7, 2023
If you wash your hair every day and your scalp is not irritated, your hair isn’t dry or brittle and you are not losing any hair, Dr. Alam said, “then keep doing what you are doing.”
Thank you Dr. Giving it a try!!
Been using Nizoral 1x week to every other week. I don't generally get dandruff, but it stops any scalp itching. I first rinse my scalp with a regular shampoo, then rinse with the Nizoral
Is it give you oily hair or not?
Nizoral works! I’ve had hair loss since my divorce 5 years ago - and even though most of my hair grew back, it sheds excessively. I definitely see a reduction in shedding when I use Nizoral shampoo once or twice per week. It does remove hair color- so I wish it would come in a brown tinted version so it could help cover grays while it helps hair loss. I let it sit on my scalp for a few minutes and really work it in.
I agree that using minoxidil with Nizoral is a winning combo! I also added red light therapy 10 months ago and my hair is growing long again! I’ve needed 4 haircuts since using it! These three things are working and I feel it’s not just one- but all of these things together that is making a difference as I’ve used minoxidil by itself and it didn’t do much- then added the Nizoral- and that gave me better results- but the red light therapy helped even more! A multi pronged approach works for me!
How often do you do the red light. I just bought one of those helmets. Thanks
i really think its just the minoxidil thats working. have fun using it until it gives you bad side effects then youy have to stop using it then you end up losing more hair then ever before...

My husband and I have noticed minoxidil is less effective in our late 50s ( we both have androgenetic alopecia) than it was in our late 40’s when we first started introducing it twice a day.. over the last 2 to 3 years both our hair loss has accelerated, despite dedicated use of minoxidil. I started incorporating growth factors, which seems to really help my hair growth and density as well as low level laser, light therapy.. My husband’s hair loss is consistent. @@susanneg2824 I would get these sorta dry patches (large and small) and for whatever reason these patches on my back and shoulders would NOT tan so it looked really goofy but that's what defined them. I had it again years ago on my chest and up my neck. They were not itchy nor looked enflamed. I went to the skin doctor 2 separate times for the issues - both times 2 different creams and a steroid. Nothing worked. Out of chance, I started using Nizoral on those areas - I would wash my body with it but prior I would rub it into the areas like a cream, allowing it to penetrate for several minutes. After only a few applications and washes, it went away. Both times.

Hello Dr Dray, what about topical azelaic acid in order to block conversion of testosterone into DHT? And adenosine as a "stimulant" somewhat similar to minoxidil?
I LOVE Ketoconazole. I have a big giant bottle of the Nizoral (Kinda expensive though for what it is). I use it in my groin and pits during the summer to keep Tinea Versicolor away. Works like a charm. I only have to use it 2x a week to keep dandruff away too (Head and Shoulders otherwise). I too have to shampoo once a day or my scalp goes crazy. Nizoral also makes a unmedicated conditioner now specifically to be used after the shampoo.
My Andro Alopecia is advanced now, and 13 yrs ago I had to start wearing wigs. Minoxidil used daily over a year back in 2000 didn't help and gave me sores. Been on spironolactone for 30 years! It didn't ultimately stop hair loss, though it might have slowed the loss down the first 15 years. It does help my skin stay clear, which is nice. I still take spiro, but a smaller dose starting this year after losing 60 lbs. PCOS is a cruel syndrome. Thank goodness there are natural looking supplemental hair options. It is what it is, and I no longer try to fight hair-loss, I throw on a wig and look nice as well as 20 yrs younger.
minoxifil is different these days try it again . ,there is different versions, foam and srpay do your reaseach
I went for decades with seborrheic dermatitis, and I tried all dandruff shampoos. When Nizoral went OTC, I finally found the product that completely controlled SD. It was a mini-miracle for my scalp. I never thought about it for hair loss.
Yep suffered from SD for 20 years, saw multiple doctors spent so much money trying to figure it out. One video from Dr dray, tried thus and it's gone now.

I read this from Dr. Dray several days ago and ordered both the shampoo and conditioner . . . I am absolutely AMAZED that the use of these products made such an overnight difference! I’ve suffered from hair loss from the Pandemic for 3 years now and have lost at least half my hair. Every time I shampoo, it comes out by the handful. . . These two product instantly stopped that (and no, I am not exaggerating). Lost only several hairs, scalp is clean and hair is soft and healthy. My doctor prescribed Effexor several months ago (usually prescribed for PTSD) and I’m back to being myself, so it could be a double remedy (I was BORN anxious!), but I will never be without these two products. . . Thank you, Dr. Dray!!!!!

This is so helpful, thank you! Do you have any thoughts on AHAs for scalp exfoliation or probiotics for soothing sensitive scalps? Nutrafol released products for each of those, and as you said, I don't want to just be susceptible to marketing...
I believe she talks about AHAs for scalp in her review of the inkey list hair products. Dr. Jenny Liu addresses them in her video on improving hair growth and scalp care.
Hi Dr. Dray! This is a bit off topic, but I was looking at papers about red light therapy and combo blue/red light therapy for acne/anti-aging, and saw that a reported effect in some studies was reduction of sebum/porphyrin. I think all the papers I looked at which measured sebum reported reduction of sebum, but most anti-aging papers don’t. As someone with normal to dry skin, I was wondering if you think the sebum reduction would worsen skin dryness?
Red light is associated with anti aging. Blue light is associated with acne
The red light therapy I used did decrease the oiliness of my skin by about 20%. I had very oily skin so I welcomed this side effect. When I stopped the therapy, my skin returned to its previous oiliness.

very frustrating
Dr. Dray, you look so beautiful wearing makeup!
Been dealing with AGA for 40 years - Nizoral has recently become part of my routine. The shampoo is very harsh, and can leave your hair feeling rough. That said, I do see a small but noticeable difference. It is NOT a miracle cure - but part of an overall strategy. If you have long hair and want to try it, protect your hair but saturating your ponytail with conditioner first, then apply Nizoral ONLY to the scalp (not the pony tail). As you rinse it out, the conditioner will keep the Nizoral off your ponytail, and you won't be left with fried hair. The hair closer to your scalp will feel rough... but the added texture is a cosmetic benefit... helps hide the bald spots a little better.
My hair started thinning when I was around 17. I am 23 now and I started using this two weeks ago. I already see a difference
This happened to me but why?
Thanks for the video Doc! What do you think about Niacinamide on the scalp?
