I've been dealing with hair loss for 2 years now, under a dermatologist care for over a year. I have been on a prescription for that time and was starting to see tiny regrowth but it's all gone now and idk why. I see my dermatologist in a few weeks and am really going to push for more treatment especially with you both stressing time is of the essence. I will say hair loss as a female, especially in today's society, is absolutely devastating 😔

Hairless as a young male is exactly the same. When he get older is more acceptable but at 20 having a huge bald spot like me destroys your confidence and people treat you like a weirdo.
@@manuelsilva6244 I'm sorry but I wouldn't say it's "exactly the same". Since biblical times a woman's hair has been called/seen as her "crowning glory". It is very much tied into the fabric of our society so much so that even women having short hair has been seen as "less attractive" and "less feminine". A woman who decides to shave her head is seen as sick, having cancer, or having some other debilitating illness otherwise why would she choose to shave her head. While males who shave their heads are often considered "powerful" or "sexy". It's very much an option for men, not so much for women (though that is slowly changing). There also has been a lot more scientific study on male pattern baldness and a lot more study on the medications used by males and their effects on males. Most medications have not been geared towards women and comprehensive studies of their effects on females have not been done or are fairly recent. I'm sorry you've dealt with negative feelings or have been treated badly because of your hair loss. People suck. We can only try to be the best version of ourselves that we can be and control what we put out into the universe.
Ive been losing hair for over 4 years now and my blood tests were always “normal”. Fast forward to now, a dermatologist finally told me that my iron levels need to be much much higher than what I have. Even though they appear to be normal, ive been deficient all these years causing my hair loss.

It has been shown that post patrum stage causes hair loss i guess due to changes in hormones, also stress and other factors having to adjust to new routine can also be a contributing factor

My hair has been falling out like crazy since I had COVID 6 weeks ago - really hope time gets things back on track as it’s really getting me down seeing all of it coming out out constantly…
I loose hair from medication for autoimmune disease so I really understand and feel for you. What makes a difference for me are 2 vitamins, viviscal and one that has silica, zinc and biotin in it. I recently started derma rolling and was really surprised to see that making a difference. I have an led panel and just started that too. I’d rather do these than minoxidil. All the best.
You might have covid induced telogen effluvium. Usually 10 per cent of our hairs are in the shedding stage. But the long term impacts if covid can cause up too 30 per cent of your hairs to go into the shedding stage. It does recover eventually but can take several months.
@@rohitrudrathiyagaraj5600 Hi, I added a biotin vitamin recently. One is a combination vitamin that’s primarily silica but it has zinc in it. The other is viviscal. They say to take one vitamin a day but I take 2 to 3 of the silica and 6 of the viviscal both split up half in the morning and half at night. Oh I also take about 6 or 7,000 mg of vitamin d in the morning. I came to this high quantity of vitamins by experimenting, when I go lower my hair falls out. But I also have an autoimmune disease so that makes a difference. And yes I do think derma rolling has helped. Good luck!!

I am merely 31 , woman, and My hair was thick and often long, no bleach, color etc. I heattreated when blowdrying more often letting it dry itself. Then came covid and after I suddenly began shedding and learnt it was common after covid, a sort of PTSD. If you’re supposed to act quickly I guess I did. Schampoo&conditioner specialized for hair loss, Priorin, switched to a softer brush and stopped all heat. Now use function of beauty sh&cond with hairgoals to keep my hair strong and heatprotected. No more Planning in good time to shower as with the other product it was like 3 min leavein for the sh & 5 min for the cond, such a Chore and added stress. Starting to bounce back now, shedding in chunks gone and the length have become more Me. Still waiting for thickness to return. This vid is inspiring.

Realizing that their clinic is not too far from where I live 🙌🏽 I had terrible post-partum hair loss two years ago especially in the temple area, my scalp felt tender for a whole month from the hairloss, but luckily it grew back. I recently started to lose hair again, almost in the same pattern as before and would clog the shower drain after every shower. My ponytail has always been thick, but it has halved in size...again, I see a ton of baby hair growing back but the temple areas are still very thin. I hope it was just related to stress, post covid, and hope it does not lead to permanent hair loss 🤞🏽
I have Alopecia Areata, I hope you will cover that too some time in the future. However, I do hope you mention the number one effective "treatment": acceptance and helper hair ❤️
Thanks for this excellent, comprehensive video! I'm especially glad to hear you're planning on making this a series. When you do, would you talk specifically about women and hair loss? And also how hair loss (and hair loss treatment options) can differ for premenopausal women, perimenopausal women, and postmenopausal women?
Year on finasteride and 6 months on minoxidil and hairloss still worsening:') couldn't imagine how much worse it would be if i hadn't started. these treatments are sooo accessible with online providers, start!!
I'm afraid to get on any pills. I lost most of my hair over 2 months when I was 24. Luckily I haven't lost any more hair for the next 12 years. Not even a bit. But worried that if I start these meds, then stop there will be a rebound effect and it will get worse.
I'm dealing with hair loss and plaque parapsoriasis at the same time which makes me depressed from time to time, but I recognise the fact that if I let it get to me, it might get worse so I try to stay positive majority of the time.
Certain types of scarring alopecia are considered an emerging epidemic. More awareness needs to happen. An episode dedicated to the many types of scarring alopecias would be awesome.
I can personally attest to the fact that Monoxidil does work. About 18 years ago I was in a very deep depression and had extreme anxiety attacks. When I realized I was losing hair in small clumps around my face I decided to try Rogaine (for women, of course 😉). It didn't take long for my hair to start growing back. It was a huge relief!!! The only thing was most of the new hair was turning GREY! 🤣🤣🤣 Oh well I'd rather have grey hair that I can color than no hair at all. PS; Now I'm in the process of getting all the dye out so I can be a natural gray hair old lady 😆😆
Rlly appreciate this video, I can't lie it is a lot easier to listen knowing that you guys understand the same struggle/worry that we have. I find it very difficult to listen to those doctors with fantastic hair telling us that finasteride is harmless
Thank you so much for this video, it was very helpful! Next video can you please talk about scalp treatments, scalp massagers, silk pillowcases and microfiber hair towels?
In the UK the Belgravia hair loss clinc is useful. Castor oil makes the hair look thicker, but it would be nice to have a study for 4C type hair. Thank you both for good content.
I'm a woman and I've been taking both Finasteride and Spironol for over 8 years now. No side effects, but the results are very slow. The balding is not progressing, but the regrowth is quite slow. I have also tried Minoxidil orally, but this one had pretty harsh side effects I didn't like.
I take spironolactone. It completely cured my hormonal acne. It also helps with my body hair; however, I am so confused on how it reduces body hair but aids in head hair loss.
@@krytos6460 o actually never started because I accidentally ordered scalp x which is only for the crown of the head. Mine is slightly receding in the front and it would be too strong. Hi Dr. Maxfield and Dr. Shah Thank you for this video. I did sign up for a zoom consult with Bosley and hope to see some difference. I gave birth to my first in the beginning of Covid in May 2020. Six weeks later my dad passed away in July 2020. Two months after that I was pregnant again in October 2020. You should have seen my hair in the front- it all fell out! I think my body was so stressed it rejected all hairs from growing. My hair was absolutely horrendous and STILL is recovering 2.5 years later.
As a person who is dealing with hair loss #1 finasteride (very very very few suffer from side effects). #2 minoxidil (you will need to use this with finasteride, they go hand in hand and minoxidil will not stop your hair loss by itself. Also awesome video 👌
I'm 27 and I'm going through hair loss on my temples. My dad was bald so I already knew that I needed to focus on it. Right now I'm only using specific shampoos, conditioners and serums (such as loreal's botanicals line) and even though I feel like I'm not seeing any changes at least my hair is getting stronger. I don't wanna go through those medical procedures but I'd get any advice as much as I can about the "hair care" stuff. WE NEED A HAIR CARE ROUTINE VIDEO!! Thanks and love you!
There's this brand called alpecin I think it's called has coffee ingrediant In it, meant to improve hair loss etc. I might give it a go cause like you temples are starting to change
Microneedling upregulates SULT1A1 in the hair follicle, so stimulates the transition of Minoxidil to Minoxidil Sulphate; the active metabolite. So it will make more people respond to topical Minoxidil. Alkalizing the environment also shifts this chemical equilibrium to create more of the sulphate. Applying tretinoin after microneedling also stimulates SULT1A1, I use this mostly at the hairline. I have a series of videos on Minoxidil that dives into these areas.
My dad has tried applying castor oil with drops of rosemary essential oil, and we noticed new hair growth on his bald spot we jokingly call "tonsure" after 3 months of consistent use. Hope someone will explore this more in a controlled research.
Hi hope you are well Would you mind sharing more about this e.g how many rosemary essential oil drops How many times in a week does he use this Thankyouu
I started putting a dime size amount of castor oil on my hand and 5 drops of rosemary oil and rubbing it together then going through my hair. I’m on day 2
Thank you so much, very helpful information. My husband lost his hair at a very early age. When he was about 24 (genetic) and I'm worried about my three boys, this has surly put me on right track to be prepared as soon as I see the first signs of hair loss.
Dr. Dray has some information on this too. For women sometimes the way we treat our hair like harsh hairstyles, chemical treatments and the way we wash and dry or style hair can cause hair breakage. I’m glad they are covering the scientific ways to get help.
Check your ferritin. Lots of videos on RUclips about ferritin & hair loss. It’s crazy how overlooked/dismissed it is by doctors and yet causes so much hair loss
I shed a lot of hair after loosing weight (despite me following a very healthy diet) - thankfully it stopped just as quickly as it stared...but it's really scary when you wash your hair and it comes out in strands. I still shed hair sometimes during the year, but it never resulted in visible thinning or bald spots so I stopped stressing about it. BTW- a lot of men look good bald- some even better than with hair. ;)
I do know that castor oil does grow hair you take castor oil and onion seed oil half of each and a few drops of Rosemary after using the 1 mm Derma roller (Gin Amber Beauty for roller). Keep oil on hair for 2 to 3 hours. Shampoo out the oil and style as usual. Do this at night. I have plain castor oil in a mascara tube and use on my eyelashes and that works to get them longer. I put same oil on my eyebrows too! 😀
So cool and interesting. Just like skincare, there should be more videos on scalp treatments and hair loss. How do y’all feel about hair growth products like Vegamour? Do they really work?
I have androgenetic alopecia and started noticing that I'm losing hair in my very early 20s (thanks to my dad's side of the family... Lol). Fortunately I've always been a very confident person and it has never really bothered me and I rock a bald head very well. I'm now in my early 30s and am really getting tired of the constant shaving and the side effects (shaving bumps) and have decided to try Minoxidil and micro needling. It's still very early to pronounce on any progress or lack thereof but I'm hoping for the best. 😊
Today is the first time I have discovered your videos. So glad I did. Thank you for all of the information you give on all concerns from hair, skin and nails. Wish I could find a dermatologist like both of you.
Love this video. I knew a lot of these concepts ad-hoc, but this really took my knowledge at a whole new level and helped me put all the concepts together. This should be required learning in college for men :). I wonder if that Finasteride Video is due anytime soon, cant wait for it.
I feel like more younger people (20's) are experiencing hair loss today compared to when I was in my 20's. I always wondered if the different types of birth control pills played a role like maybe if it throws hormones out of wack. Would be nice if there was more research or stats done on the diff types and its possible effects on our hair.
I have a experience hairloss since I started to take a birth control pills. and even though my hormones are normal fine. When I stop taking pills my hair grows back little bit. And I'm just 33 years old. I started to loss my hair at 23 when I had my first child.
Men are also having way more hairless and younger than women. People always say it's stress but I call it bullshit. People in the past had a lot of stress too and they started losing hair way later. There's definitely something going on. I don't know if it's good, lack of vitamin D or something. It's not just hormonal from birth control because men are losing more hair younger too. For example my father and my grandfather's where bald but they lost their hair when they where 40. My older brother started losing is hair when he was 27 and I started when I was 18. Younger people are losing hair faster and the medicine doesn't care to research on a cure or what's causing it because it makes a lot of money to companies to seel products that you have to take forever and that have mild results instead or solving the problem. Even transplants most of the times have to be done multiple times.
What are your thoughts about these so called DIY for hair loss? How effective are they and how often would you need to do them to get results? You guys have a great set of hair by the way 😍

thank you for this video - since this will be a series i have 2 suggestions you could maybe talk about 1. does working out increases hairloss? - on the internet i have found conflicting information about this one - lifting weights => increases testosteron => increases DHT - some articles i red say the duration of the increase in testosteron is too short which does not result in faster hairloss 2. Is there something like a topical Finasteride which could replace the minoxidil? Thank you !
Hi Doctorly! Thank you so much for all your great content! I would LOVE to see a video on how to take care of your scalp and skin on your head for people who are already bald (and who love it!). Basically: how do you treat your head once it's bald and how to care for it so it looks good and healthy. Thanks!
Hi, doc. Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been waiting for this topic. I want to ask you about a few things. Is biotin really would help me to fight my hair loss? In shampoo, in conditioner, or take it orally, which one is the best way to use biotin. Also, could you please tell us about Stemoxydine. Does it really able to fight hair loss? Thank you so much
Also I feel bad for people in Canada suffering from hair loss because in Alberta are least, it takes a few months to get in with dermatologists…and some a year!
I actually watched one of your videos a few months ago there was something about rosemary so I decided to give it ago. So I boiled it with water and then added more water to dilute it after and used it as a spray after shower for 4 months. I actually got more baby hairs in my temples and people said where I split my hair was also less visible. But I also kinda get a flaky and weird texture scalp from it.
GREAT presentation! Thanks to both of you, and congratulations on good work. I agree that Bosley does very good work there in Raleigh. I think the FUE could be the next thing for me. FUT worked well, but the FUE has now been better developed.
My younger brother was a great responder to finasteride and topical minoxidil, he even uses the worthless laser light device. I told him ditch the laser light and try dermarolling. But all in all his crown and temples have tightened up significantly.
Can u please do a video on how to control oily hair! Please! If I don't shower every single day my hair just becomes flat and greasy. I know it's not good for my scalp but I honestly can't stand it. I've been trying to find videos on how to fix it but I can't find any that actually helps me.
Join the club.I have oily, thin hair and now during COVID I notice some hair loss as well.Bit I still try not to wash my hair every single day, even if they are a hot mess.😔😢
dr. dray says it's fine to wash hair daily, and that's what she does. i am not a doctor but just wanted to share what i heard from another dermatologist on youtube
I've had really oily hair like that. I started very slowly stretching out how often I washed. Lots of dry shampoo and hairstyles that hide some of that oil. Then when quarantine hit I just went full ham and only washed once a week. I'm still doing it now and days 1-3 are actually decent looking then I go to usually braids so it's not as obvious. My hair is so much healthier and thicker now so if you can, I would definitely suggest trying it! Even washing every other day can help!
minoxidil and retinols are best friends i swear both of them make a good team like they make u panic by showing u how horrible could things start and the ending it casually with a mind blowing results 😂 like why all the drama lol i love them both the best traumatic bond ever 😂❤

It's a lengthy process and typically takes around 3 to 4 months to see the visible results. However, the results are truly effective.
Definitely appreciate this content and the organized and evidence-based way it is presented 👍🏼 RUclips is lacking this and is a cesspool when it comes to hair content, so thank you!
Heyy! Any update?

We can only try to be the best version of ourselves that we can be and control what we put out into the universe.
devastating. I feel sick sometimes just beyond depressed
Ive been losing hair for over 4 years now and my blood tests were always “normal”. Fast forward to now, a dermatologist finally told me that my iron levels need to be much much higher than what I have. Even though they appear to be normal, ive been deficient all these years causing my hair loss.
I'm also having hairfall...my Hb is,also normal..with the blood reports for iron showing normal how did your doc found that you have iron deficiency??please reply..
@@t_a7923my doctor would always say my results were normal and that I was losing hair because of stress. I got a hair transplant back in October, the best decision ever!
Omg! Me too! I’m wondering if dry shampoo is a no no while the hairs are fighting for their lives!
@@rhonda6791 what are those two vitamins and how's your derma roll progress
@@rohitrudrathiyagaraj5600
Hi, I added a biotin vitamin recently. Good luck!!
zarbon uses ancient Russian recipes that have been hidden for centuries,

I had terrible post-partum hair loss two years ago especially in the temple area, my scalp felt tender for a whole month from the hairloss, but luckily it grew back.

Have you been using it daily for 18 years?
Are you still using the minoxidil? Or did you only use it short term?
and yet for me, six months and it's just getting worse. I also have the laser cap and take Nutrafol for hte last three months

I'm a woman and I've been taking both Finasteride and Spironol for over 8 years now. No side effects, but the results are very slow. The balding is not progressing, but the regrowth is quite slow. I have also tried Minoxidil orally, but this one had pretty harsh side effects I didn't like.
But the "bolding non progressing" is already a success :-) Without your medication you would have most likely lost more hair.

it's been over 6 months for me and nothing is happening. I don't shed much but somehow when I look in the mirror more is missing.
Thank you guys. I’m a Cosmetologist so I’ll pass this on to others.

Thank you so much, very helpful information. My husband lost his hair at a very early age. When he was about 24 (genetic) and I'm worried about my three boys, this has surly put me on right track to be prepared as soon as I see the first signs of hair loss.
if my mom was focused on my hair loss at that age I would just feel worse about it
Castro oil works for me, but these days you don't find good Castro oil.
I have been using it for months now and I see some new hair growth.
My issue isn't so much that I'm losing hair, but it seems like my existing hair is thinner than it was when I was in my teens and 20's
Same issue here. I started to use biotin shampoo and conditioner and they helped me restore thick hair.
Dr. Dray has some information on this too. For women sometimes the way we treat our hair like harsh hairstyles, chemical treatments and the way we wash and dry or style hair can cause hair breakage. I’m glad they are covering the scientific ways to get help.
Sark, which brand of shampoo do you use? How much thinner in persentage approximately you hair thinned before you started on biotin shampoo?
Hair thins as we age. It is genetic. Try a shorter haircut.
Check your ferritin. Lots of videos on RUclips about ferritin & hair loss. It’s crazy how overlooked/dismissed it is by doctors and yet causes so much hair loss
Please make a video on dark underarms.

I am so thankful for your videos and advice. I wouldn’t have seen such progress in my skin without your advice. Thank you 🙏

I feel like more younger people (20's) are experiencing hair loss today compared to when I was in my 20's. I always wondered if the different types of birth control pills played a role like maybe if it throws hormones out of wack. Would be nice if there was more research or stats done on the diff types and its possible effects on our hair.
It's stress. Life nowadays is very stressful. I had major hair fall issues without even touching the birth control pills.
I have a experience hairloss since I started to take a birth control pills. and even though my hormones are normal fine. When I stop taking pills my hair grows back little bit. And I'm just 33 years old. I started to loss my hair at 23 when I had my first child.
Maybe it the food/nutrition ?
