My dear grandma, who trained as a beautician in the 1930’s, would remove her makeup every evening with Vaseline and then add another layer as her nighttime moisturizer. As a teen in the early 90’s who was fully on the “oil-free” train I thought she was insane. But I was stripping my skin with foaming cleansers and saturating it with alcohol toners and wondering why I still had zits! She lived to 95 and had beautiful, supple skin until the end. Grandma knew a thing or two after all!
Did she use a cleanser to remove her makeup 💄? Then go in with the Vaseline every night? Or, just use Vaseline all the time instead of a cleanser? Thank you in advance.
Yaasss!!! I was a teenager in the 90's as well and Vaseline was deemed the worst! I was on the Sea Breeze train as well and had horrible dried out acne skin. My mom swore by Vaseline on our diaper areas when we were babies and there was always a jar in the house growing up. I am so glad that I know the errors of my youth. I had no idea all the uses until Dr. Dray came onto my scene.
I, too, was a teenager in the 90s! If a product had a speck of oil, or if the ingredients list contained something that was deemed to be a comedogenic ingredient, I did not go near it! But if it had alcohol, no problem! 🤣Skip ahead to 2023, and I am 45 and slather my self in creams, oils, and occlusives every night!
@@babyprecious9147 No, she used the Vaseline like an oil cleanser. From what I recall she applied the Vaseline onto dry skin like a balm cleanser and then removed it with cotton balls, in the same way that women used to cleanse with cold cream. She may have followed up by rinsing her face with warm water, but I honestly don’t remember that part. She was a fastidiously clean woman though, so she wouldn’t have done it if it left any grime or residue.
I’ve been using Vaseline around my eyes for 45 years to treat the dryness on the skin of my eyelids and under my eyes. I started using it as a teenager, and it’s the longest skincare regime I have used, and I am 60 years old. I highly recommend using Vaseline than wasting money on high end and expensive eye creams.
I started using vaseline for few months ,but after I started getting small little pimple on my eyelids I just stopped using it . I have very sensitive and combination skin ,so I know now I can't use Vaseline. I try on my face because, and I got pimples the next day
@@eileendapaletemps3548it takes a few weeks for a pimple to come to the surface of your skin. Most likely you were going to get the pimple anyway….just a coincidence. My under eyes are sensitive too. I can not use eye serums, it will cause irritation. I can use Vaseline tho…
I struggled with horrible dry eyelids and under eyes for several months. Could not get it to go away for anything. After reading your comment I tried Vaseline and it completely fixed it. Thank you!!!
We have been bamboozled by nutrition and skincare. Eat the eggs, use Vaseline. So simple and effective. My grandmother used to slightly heat it in a small dedicated pot just for Vaseline to warm it up and thin it out. She then applied it warm to her face. EVERY NIGHT.
My best friend's mother used vaseline on her face every night and at 86 she had no wrinkles whatsoever. Her skin looked amazing. So yes it does work miracles.
@@repentjesusiscomingsoon1529 Maybe, apply after washing your face so it will absorb easier. If you apply with dry skin most likely won't absorb as good. Hope it works!
On the way to work before the sun rose, my Mom tripped over a broken parking lot bumper. She cracked open the nose skin big time & was bleeding profusely. She went home, washed, packed it with Vaseline & bandaged it. Called me afterwards. We waited hours in ER. Dr looked at it, re-bandaged it & said she had done a spectacular job. It was already healing! Didn't need stitches! And she was left only with a minor scar.
When growing up in Finland my mother used to put Vaseline on our faces before going out into the winter to play all day. Preventing us from wind , cold and possibly frost bite.
Same here in Montreal, Canada! I had 3 very blonde boys who got frost-bitten cheeks and never thought of applying anything but vaseline to their cheeks when they played outside in the winter - just like my mother did for me some 70 odd years ago!
Worked in a nursing home & one of my patients had the most beautiful skin. She told me she used Noxzema to cleanse her skin and vaseline for moisture since 1920s. She died in 2000 and I promise you not one wrinkle. Smooth, luscious skin. That was enough for me. I buy whichever brand is on sale lol I do like "nursery/ baby scent". I used it pretty much all over my body. It's good stuff, never did me wrong.
She sounds a lot like my late grandmother, on Dad's side! Almost her whole family NEVER AGED! She appeared to be about 40 in the casket and she was 95!
My husband and I are in our 20's and slugging now thanks to these videos about vaseline. Based on these comments about people's grandparents having amazing skin due to years of vaseline usage, I'm so glad I'm doing it before I hit my 30's!
I'm 72. I've been using Vaseline since I was a child and my Mom would apply it to my hands and elbows and feet after bathing me. Now I use it around my eyes at night (I also use a tretinoin cream but NEVER under Vaseline) and on my cuticles and occasionally all over my face. I have also been using it to get stubborn mascara and mineral sunscreen off before washing my face at night. People say I have beautiful skin for an old lady. I occasionally use the Aquaphor or Cerave healing ointments but just plain old cheap Vaseline works for me.
@@jamierogers4530It is Retin A use to prevent wrinkles watch Dr Drays videos about it. I am 76 and look 60...not my opinion my dermatologist's. I have used it for decades. LOVE it and low cost compared to cosmetic treatments. Im going to start slugging with vaseline from time to time but I Wont change from my nighttime RetinA/ Tretinoen.
72 is young!! I love Vaseline. I would coat my feet in it then wrap my feet in plastic wrap and put on socks! I've got great young looking feet. I do this twice a month. Got baby soft feet!
My daughter, at age seven, had horrible cracks in the bottom of her feet. Sometimes they would bleed. The doctor suggested a prescription cream that didn't work and then another cream. Both of them came in a tube only slightly larger than my baby finger and both cost close to $50. Neither helped and so in desperation I slathered her feet with Vaseline, put cotton socks on her and sent her to bed. In the morning there was a great improvement. By the end of the week her feet were totally healed. I also found it to be a great treatment for diaper rash (back in the day before disposables.) The Vaseline provided a moisture barrier and cleared up the problem.
I decided vaseline must work wonders when my dermatologist had me putting vaseline on a skin cancer scar after surgery. If it has great healing properties for the skin, we should all be using it.
I grew up in the 50's and it was either Vaseline or Noxema as far as skincare goes. Also we weren't into washing your face with chemical strippers - plain soap and water. I now have exzema on my face and when it was diagnosed the doctor told me to wash my face and slather on vaseline. It works like a charm!
I agree. Her skin is more even and she finally got her eyebrows done right. No sharp edge in the arch, although I think they are too long at ends. But what a difference. Lovely.
I used to snob Vaseline, until I gave my face a chemical burn from using skin products incorrectly. It was taking weeks to heal and was a flakey and inflamed. I looked up how to treat a chemical burn and Vaseline was suggested. After 3 days my burn was almost healed. I’m still in shock. It will forever be part of my skin care regimen ❤ sorry for judging you mom😂
I have been using Vaseline to my under eye area for years which has helped me to have decreased lines. So listening to you tonight 11/1/2023 is confirming. Also, I am happy to know that I can use it after my skincare at night. Yes, it does help in healing the skin if irritated. I normally go back and forth between Olive Oil/Vaseline for irritation to skin. Now after watching your video I am more comfortable to continue its use. Thank you very much.
@@pansywalker9017 I don't truly believe that it's a medical condition but just my opinion. When we block the skin cells, which need oxygen for optimal health, it doesn't allow the natural exfoliation of the skin cells to turn over. So we keep occluding and congesting the skin cells with petroleum and silicone, among other film forming agents.
@@holisticstarhealing8673 I totally understand, but you have to wash face daily for cleansing. I have not experienced that condition thank God. I have been exfoliating mechanically three times per week to promote cell turnover for years. My basic care was cleanse, witch hazel astringent, exfoliate and moisturize with weekly mask of egg, milk and honey. I also steamed my face with chamomile tea first before masking. Plus I drink 10-12 glasses of water 💧 per day. I never used sunscreen, but now I do. I’ve been living in Florida for over 30 years and the sun’s heat has definitely changed. Overall, a healthy lifestyle is key to good skin.
When my nostrils are dry, cracked, and/or bleeding from having the heat on during winter, I swab a small amount of vaseline inside my nostrils to restore moisture. It’s very soothing!
All I know is my 104 year old Uncle used Vaseline on his face his whole adult life -- even as a pro golfer, who was out in the sun daily -- he had, to the very end, absolutely smooth, wrinkle free facial skin. It was so astonishing that a lot of people insisted he had to have had multiple face lifts. Nope, just Vaseline. I am a believer from empirical evidence. I use name brand Vaseline to remove eye makeup, and have done that for decades. Thanks for this!
As a young teenager in the 60's I have used petroleum jelly as my main stay. This normally horrified women in my life when they learned this about me. I just attended my 50-year class reunion, I look fabulous and decades younger than my peers because of using the vasoline ;)
I have used Vaseline on my face daily for over 35 years. I have painful eczema and it is the only thing I have found to comfort my skin. The bonus for me is it's unscented.
I know it's gross, but in winter, the air gets so dry that I wake up with a bloody nose almost every day. I use a slight coating of Vaseline on the inside of my nose at night and it keeps it from drying out overnight. I always hoped it was safe to use this way and now I feel much more assured. Thank you.
Instead of mascara on some days, I appy vaseline lightly to my lashes and curl my lashes......they stay curled all day. I use it as a moisturizer especially in the cold climate winters....works perfectly!
My grandmother and her 6 sisters all born in from the 1920’s-1920’s, smeared Vaseline on their faces religiously, nightly. All lived well into their 80’s and had smooth, beautiful skin. They also avoided the sun with long sleeves, hats, gloves, etc.
Several years ago I had huge areas of dermatitis on my face caused from using some essential oils as skin care🙄. At the time I was clueless as to what the oils were actually doing to my skin. The dermatologist had me use Vaseline exclusively on my face for two weeks. He told me to put some Vaseline in my hand with a few drops of water & make a sort of cream & rub it in the the skin. I was horrified! He calmed me down & said many of his patients used it as skin care & had done so for years. The dermatitis cleared & my skin looked great!!
Thank you for this tip! I’m experiencing an allergic reaction to a sunscreen and my face has been itchy for over a week, and I’ve tried so many “remedies”. I’m going to try Vaseline.
My sister was just in town with a purse full of essential oils and crystals 🤦♀️ she insisted on rubbing my dads feet with lavender oil. I said that’s incredibly irritating and she looked at me like I’m an idiot and said “it’s fine if it’s mixed with an emollient”. She dropped it into a handful of lotion and went to town on my poor pops. This “natural” craze needs to stop.
Vaseline was the only thing my Grandmother used on her face at night. I remember being very young and thinking she was crazy because her skin looked so greasy at night before bed. Needless to say she knew something we all did not. She lived to be 87 and her skin was flawless, she had a few wrinkles around her eyes but not many at all. I remember when I was in my 20's looking at her skin and how flawless and smooth it was. I always thought it would clog my pores because I suffered with acne for years and years. Today, I am 56 and honestly after watching this video thinking about going back to vaseline just like Grandmom. I too read many things that scared me away from Vaseline during the years. Thank you Dr. Dray for having the courage and wisdom to bring this back to us.
I LOOOVE using vaseline on my face😍I slather my entire face with it before going to sleep and I wake up with the softest skin✨vaseline has done more for my skin than all these overhypes overpriced products out there
Me too. Learned from previous videos from Dr. Dray, so doing it for over one year now. Also use on my neck, shoulders and chest. Just wish I had learned it sooner.
I use either Vaseline or Aquafor every night on my lips and hands. Also use it on my feet under socks when the weather cools down. It's great for softening feet.
My mom used Vasoline every night on her face for decades and she always had soft skin well into her 80s. I have started using it as an eye cream at night. Love it!! Works as good if not better than those high priced designer eye creams. Thanks mom💗.
I been using Vaseline for 40 years and my skin has soft and it has help my skin look youthful. I heard so many skincare representatives telk me that i should not be using vaseline ? Actually a cosmetic injector recently ask me how i get soft skin..when i said Vaseline..she said..yes i heard that it is wonderful...but was surprised how a cheap product can do so much!! .i feel people are brainwash to think you need expensive products to actually make a difference in yoir skin..even ceravie or Cetaphil doesnt compare to Vaseline
In my family, we used vaseline always. I still do. It is cheap and it works so much better than alot of face creams and moisturizers out on the market. I use it to remove left over make up and I use it as a moisturizer. Im 54, no complaints here.
Hi, how do you cleanse your face in the morning? I don't use a cleanser in the morning, and if I put Vaseline at night, I feel like I have to use a cleanser to wash it off.
@@mochispacesI literally just splash plain water on my face in the morning, mostly to make sure I don't have any sleep crud in my eyes. Don't need to "cleanse", just water is fine. If you use too much Vaseline, a hot wet washcloth pressed on your face will help. Don't need soap or cleanser.
Dr. Dre! I have been using Vaseline on my face, especially around my eyes and lips for 60 years! I cannot go to bed without it... You look so nice today!
Great info. I’m a big fan of Vaseline. When I was a swim instructor and we were in the pool 4-6 hours a day, I covered my body in Vaseline because it protected me from the chlorine and from drying my skin out
I use PONDS and I believe it has Vaseline. It was recommended to me from a 89 year old lady, who had beautiful skin , who used it for years. I Find it helps my combo skin (to clean it without stripping thev moisture).
I was really struggling with the chlorine in the pool this summer. I took your advice about applying it before swimming and it’s made a huge difference, especially around my eyes. Thank you for all of the science based, practical information you provide!
I used to get compliments on my young looking skin up to 72. Didn’t use Vaseline but other market items. Now I am 75 and my skin is dry, more notable wrinkles, bags under the eyes. I read several comments of the wonders of Vaseline, as well as your video, I’m starting the Vaseline skin care!
I use Vaseline on my feet with socks, it’s wonderful. Name brand or generic doesn’t matter to me. My grandmother swore by Vaseline for many things and always used it on her face, she passed at 92 and of course she had wrinkles but her skin was super soft, clear and had a beautiful vibrancy to it.
I always used Vaseline on my face throughout my 30s and 40s. Then, i googled it one day and i read that it caused cancer so i stopped. I can totally see a difference. My face looks older than it should. Im starting my Vaseline regimen TONIGHT! I really appreciate all the comments here. Youve all convinced me!
I am so glad that Dr. Dray did a video on this. I watch a skincare YTuber(not a doctor) video that warned people not to use Vaseline because it is harmful being derived from petroleum. Greatful to get information from Dr. Dray.
I used Vaseline for slugging last year and my skin was glowing, not sure why I stopped but decided to start again and then you put out this video! Thank you Dr. Dray!
I took care of my Mom bed bound at 89 to 91 - she swore by using not just Vaseline but Vick's Vaporub (or copy cat versions ) - there is the vaso dilative aspect of Vaporub so it would make sense as therapeutic and she used it like Vasoline - I would say also sort of off subject that she had quit smoking (posterior stroke) without noticing (smoking since ?? 13 ?) and I had the unpleasant task (I'm a guy - she's my Mom) of washing her hair - but at 90 years old her hair got STRONGER and her hair was always sort of fine whispy (at times) when she drank coffee and smoked a pack a day - so.... the Body is ALWAYS trying to be better and grow and shine -so never give up
I started using Vaseline on my face when I was in high school and it cleared my acne tremendously! I also have really dry skin and it helped with that too!
Do you have to use it everyday to help with dry skin ? I’m looking for something to help dry skin that I don’t have to put on my face everyday but I’m not sure if there is such a thing lol
@Jack_99DE I used to do it every day, but honestly, every other day works fine too :) I would lather it on my face and wear it overnight. Then when I wake up, I'd shower and wipe it off and my face would be moisturized :)
I have meiboman gland dysfunction resulting in pretty uncomfortable dry eye and blepharitis. Applying vaseline around my lashline has been a lifesaver for significantly reducing the irritation and redness.
I’ve used it my entire 60 yr old life with severe eczema issues. It helps seal in water after bathing and It was so soothing for burning and dryness. I Also used it for diaper rash, abrasions and cuts which helped immediately with stinging.
Scott Barnes, youtube, famous makeup artist, uses Aquaphor under the eyes and parenthesis lines of his models to prevent creasing from concealer and makeup.
I used Vaseline regularly on my daughter’s bottom and she never had issues and a very happy baby. Also, have used for myself to remove eye makeup gently. I will always remember someone complaining about makeup they loved but it was impossible to remove. I said to try Vaseline, she thought I was crazy (back in the 90’s). Well she gave it a try and she was amazed and thought I was so knowledgeable!
I am loving your switch to playing with more color. Both as fashion and home decor. Loved your serious neutral looks with grey and navy but seeing more pops of color like orange has been a bright and cheery look. It's great to see more of your creativity with color.
I have acne prone skin and have used Vaseline on my face (on top of my moisturizer) at night for a couple of months now, thanks to you. I LOVE it. I’ve noticed my skin being highly hydrated.
@@Name.......... I did, but I'm still pretty wary about putting something so thick on my face. And it would feel very uncomfortable and heavy on oily skin.
My skin has always been really oily and I tried to follow the "use a lightweight/gel/foam moisturizer" advice. The thing that genuinely helped my skin get to more balanced state was to use a super occlusive moisturizer/slug at night. Did it feel heavy? Yes. Did I wake up in the morning as a greaseball for a while? Also yes. But then my skin stopped being sensitive and oily during the day.
Yes! Me too! I've always been very oily. Now that I use occlusives like triple paste or Vaseline a few nights a week, I'm less oily throughout the day. I think my skin was over "making oil" because I was actually dry. Not sure but I'm happy I figured it out.
I am 71, and I've used both V Brand and store brands, and both seem to work the same. When I lightly pat on my face at night, after cleansing, my whole face looks so nice and smooth in the morning. Better than using any other moisturizer. I also like to rub a tiny bit between my fingers and gently, lightly pat it over my freshly done total makeup routine. It makes my face glow and show less wrinkles or lines. Kind of keeps it fresh. I also pat a bit over lip edges.
I do this too but just on the top of my cheekbones / undereye transition area I rub a small dab into my palm and pick it up with my beauty blender and tap it gently on there

This, while into making natural skincare and makeup i came across people who hated “chemicals” and hated vaseline. I had a moment where i started believing that vaseline is bad but couldn’t justify hate around chemicals bcoz it all depends what it is and how you use. Came across a mum with kids who had very sensitive skin and were allergic to anything natural too and the only thing they could use were petroleum jelly wraps for skin moisture and some medicated creams. I did research on vaseline and realised its not an evil and isnt bad for environment too bcoz its a by product and not the main thing for which crude oil is mined.
The ”natural” hype has been driving me crazy because I keep having reactions to most natural oils. It makes is so hard to find skincare! Thank god for petrolatum and ingredients like it, or I wouldn’t be able to do anything with my skin. There are so few ingredients out there that I can safely use.
I am 68 years old (aging, dryness, wrinkles), and I fight rosacea. I've been using Vaseline to remove my eye makeup. It's cost friendly ( I'm on social security ), and I find it effective.
For each pregnancy, I used Vaseline from my collarbones to knees every single day. Didn’t get a single stretch mark. Amazing since all the women in my family have them except me. I give the credit to Vaseline.
Years ago my dermatologist gave me a little sample of an ointment to use on my face following having some "stuff" frozen off. I asked if I could buy it anywhere, and she said, "Yeah it's vaseline". I've been given that same little packet to use on areas following surgical incisions, and for healing scrapes. I love the Aquaphore Healing version and use it everywhere but always lips and hands at night and throughout the day. Thanks for reinforcing and reminding me. Love!

I was hesitant when my PCP told me to use Vaseline for my itchy dry skin. But once I tried it I liked it much better than creams & lotions which now seem cold & sticky to me. Applied thinly, Vaseline is more comfortable. Doesn't drip. A little goes a long ways. I apply it to wet skin after bathing - just a little blob per arm or leg can be very quickly spread thin over wet skin.

Vaseline was a staple in our medicine cabinet when I was growing up. We used it for everything... minor cuts and burns, rashes, dry skin, sunburn, chapped skin etc. These days, I always have a container in my home but don't use it quite as much as when I was a child. I've never tried it for slugging. It's very humid where I live so I can't imagine slathering my face with it. Happy Thursday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💗
I don’t typically slug, but I do when I’m headed outside on dry cold winter days (mountains may be snowy but the air is super dry) or even headed on a flight. Works beautifully so I don’t get indoors after a long day outside or off the plane with dry, itchy, irritated skin.
When I was in junior high I started using Noxzema to cleans my face, and moisturized with Vaseline. In a sea of kids with acne, my skin was almost completely clear!
I just started using Vaseline because of your videos. Applying a small amount on my face before bed is a lifesaver for my dry, dehydrated skin.
Cool!
Wet wounds heal better with minimal scarring over dry wounds. Make sure it doesn't get infected.

When growing up in Finland my mother used to put Vaseline on our faces before going out into the winter to play all day.
Preventing us from wind , cold and possibly frost bite.
Same here when growing up in the North in the United States.
Same
same here in Minnesota~ and greased our wrists and ankles so you never got that ice/snow rash where your mittens or boots end.
Same here in Montreal, Canada! I had 3 very blonde boys who got frost-bitten cheeks and never thought of applying anything but vaseline to their cheeks when they played outside in the winter - just like my mother did for me some 70 odd years ago!
That's smart, as a protective agent I think it's fine.

My husband and I are in our 20's and slugging now thanks to these videos about vaseline. Based on these comments about people's grandparents having amazing skin due to years of vaseline usage, I'm so glad I'm doing it before I hit my 30's!
Yes it's great for hands & face I've been using it for long time
I can't go to bed without using it on my lips.
What is tretinoin cream please?
@@jamierogers4530 Retin-A is the brand I use but my comment implies that I use it on my eyes. Nope. Nope. Too irritating.

I use creamy Vaseline if I can find it. Never have cracks.
In India, almost everyone does the vaseline trick for cracks in your feet. Even doctors recommend it.
Thank you. I'm going to try it.

@@holisticstarhealing8673 No! That is a medical condition which I don’t feel has to do with skin care.
@@pansywalker9017 just asked :)
Thank you.

Several years ago I had huge areas of dermatitis on my face caused from using some essential oils as skin care🙄. At the time I was clueless as to what the oils were actually doing to my skin.

I love the CeraVe Healing Ointment., which has 46% petrolatum and also ceramides.
I use Nivea Creme (in a blue jar, no scents) on my face in very dry periods and it works well too.
🥰I love the big blue jar of Nivea!! I have dry skin now from thyroid problems, and literally the only things that work are thickass Nivea cream or Vaseline. I use Nivea head to foot! Babyskin now!
one of the main ingredients is vaseline
I use niven cream too and always taken for being younger than I am
Even the dermatologist asked what I use on my skin…. Have used it forever, even though some said it would clog pores. I am 73 and get compliments alllllll the time!
I have recently been using Vaseline on my lips. It is making a difference.
I love vaseline no other product leaves my skin so soft
I also like applying it all over the eye area during the day, as well as on my lips. I usually buy brand name, because it's the same or similar price as the off brands are where I am and much more common. I can find a tub of Vaseline at almost every store here lol.
Just got out of bed and slapped some Vaseline on my skin 😂
I used to always put this under my eyes and am glad this video gave me more information about Vaseline and the advantages it has!!! Literally something so simple does wonders. Thank you Dr. Dray!! In Dr. Dray we trust 👏
I wont ever let myself run out of vaseline. I use it for so many things in my beauty routine from using it as a lip balm to slugging to protecting my skin when dying my hair or painting my nail and more
My European Aunt used Baby Oil to remove makeup and to moisturize her face and body. She died at 89 with no noticeable wrinkles!😊
I have been using Vaseline on my lips every night before bed since I was a teenager. Now in my late 50’s and my lips and the area around my mouth are super soft and no wrinkles! Never thought to use it other places on my face…lol Of course this would work for me in other parts of my face. I will give it a try! Thank you.
My grandmother used it everyday. I have used it for years. It is the only thing that doesn't irritate my excema on my eyes and other sensitive areas.
I use vaseline as a baseprimer under my eyeshadow. I am 57 and creamy eye shadow creeps up in my wrinkels and powder eyeshadow makes my eye skin more dry and look dry. The vaseline gives a more youthfull glow.
May I ask what kind of eyeshadow you use after the Vaseline? And how you prep for the eyeshadow using the Vaseline please?
Use on feet when wearing new shoes! Or running. Helps with friction.
Always bring small box of Vaseline when I travel and I know I'm going to walk a lot
