Imagine being a doctor, already having no time from your daily job and still trying to post videos to help people in what time you do have left in the day, cheers to you
ehhhh the intent is good and even perhaps the knowledge in this video, but the abrasive methods in this video made my seb derm way worse, what's working for me is simply putting cerave on immediately after a shower, no washing, scrubs or anything harsh. I think more focus for this condition needs to be put on strengthening the skin barrier. It's not a cure but has done wonders.
💔I do.. I’ve canceled dates, hanging out with friends, i just don’t want anyone being close to me/in my face seeing this red scaly flaky embarrassing irritation that’s going on with my face asking questions🥺. I’m so sad, and depressed. I just found this video i hope the products shes mentioned can help me. I will order a few today to start my trail and error process🥺😢💔 Wish me luck pleaseeee I just want relief and to feel normal again🙏🏽♥️
I literally stopped wearing makeup because of it... I love makeup! I love playing with it. But I literally have ignored makeup and avoided even watching videos because I just feel gross when I put it on.
Not an expert but I have this condition too. To stop my flare ups, I I stopped eating bread and limited my rice intake and for some reason it works. I noticed that eating food with high carbs exacerbates my condition.
I recommend Eucerin eczema cream for seb derm - it has licorice root for redness and piroctone olamine, which is an antifungal! It's been awesome for me
I had this for a while i thought it was an allergic reaction to a face mask i wore, googled it realised it was fungal, decided to treat it with Aloe Vera that i grew myself, its huge lol, i detached a frond , filleted it to remove all the gel, split it into 5 parts put four parts in the freezer, then with the last bit i diced it up added some water and liquidised it, put this solution all over my head , instantly it felt relieved, did the same procedure twice a day, its been a week or so now and the flaky raw skin has completely disappeared, no chemicals used , cost Zero...
@@johanna2690 aye, but its controlled now by washing whole head thoroughly with soap and water, then i aloe vera whole head, this stops it coming back mostly, but if i lapse or forget to do this it comes back, i also use apricot kernel oil which is high in vitamin A and E on any outbreaks, this seems to calm it down very quickly, fungus is really hard to get rid of, all hats pillowcases etc need to be cleaned more often too, hope this helps :)
The only way I finally almost got over it (not even steroids worked) was changing my diet (eliminating sugar, wheat, alcohol and dairy), healing my gut and also supplementing with L-theanine amino acid to control stress.
LCHF/Keto/Carnivore diets are great for many skin conditions as well as most of the other chronic diseases of civilization. My skin and other health issues have significantly improved since getting rid of processed foods and eating very low carb.
I have found not many topicals will really help clear or cure a skin disease! Salicylic acid will help me, but I have to wash with it every 3 days or so!
I had it terribly on my eyebrows and sides of my nose and parts of my forehead.. It was really messing with my self esteem. I went to a dermatologist and he told me to use a shampoo daily to control it (for 30 days) and a cream to use daily for 2 months... He also gave me a list of safe products to use. I got la roche posay toleraine ultra night cream and the red patches and flakes from my face disappeared within the next day... The shampoo is very very drying to my hair but not to my scalp. So I am using it every other day to limit the side effects along with a scalp moisturizer from a brand called sebocalm. I opted not to use the cream because it contained a corticosteroid and it made me too nervous, but it seems that my face cleared up with just the moisturizer and shampoo.. hope someone may find this helpful..
@@sibu3554 Hey guys sad and sorry to report it did not get better. It came back. Dr. Dray is right. It's hit or miss. I am now trying almond oil to remove the flakes because that's the only thing that doesn't seem to be irritating. And then I try and shampoo with the agispor sparingly 1-2x a week. It's better than it was and my eyebrows havent acted up in a while. But yeah super frustrating.
Thank you for sharing. Do you experience eyebrow hairloss? I have lost so much density over the years with no regrowth. It is so frustrating and at times depressing. Shampoos and creams don't seem to help me, plus every shampoo I apply dries my skin out badly.

@@jeninen8312 I've suffered for so long now and have tried hundreds of different products and seen loads of different specialists and doctors. But there are people with worst cases than me so I will just keep trying.
Agreed. I spent over 4 years paying for dermatology visits and rx strength Ketoconazole that didnt work. I didnt realize the difference the shampoos made for our textured hair- especially Selsun Blue, my hair felt like sandpaper! I finally found a combination that has been working the past 5 weeks on my scalp and forehead, I'm hopeful it keeps working.
@@chantellebrinkley2943 I know you were asking Hibiscuss but I suffer from this as well. The Nizoral shampoo worked for me. I tried them all and that's the only thing that didn't dry my hair and skin out. You just have to be consistent. I'd use it every night on my face, lather it up and leave it on for about 5 minutes and rinse. For my scalp, I'd do it twice a week. Once I cleared it up, I used it once a week for maintenance. The prescription strength Ketoconazole the dermatologist gave me broke me out so bad, I think something in it, does not agree with my skin.

I've been suffering from severe seborrheic dermatitis around my moustache and beard chin area for many years now. It comes and goes like the wind and my doctor advised me to keep it clean and moisturized. This month (July 2023) I had the worst flare ever. I woke up and it was sore, super red and itchy. I was searching online what I could use to calm down this flare and maybe prevent future ones. Your video was a blessing. Thank you so much! ❤
@@Iamaj941 Hi. I was prescribed hydrocortisone topical creams, and to apply loads of hydration creams too. They didn't work. The Neutrogena product recommended in this video works very well and helps to prevent new flares. But it needs to be applied daily.
Have you tried nizoral ketoconazole shampoo? This kills the yeast. I feel like hydrocortisone like can actually give yeast a place to live and surive. @@Hugo_Le_Mignon
I struggled with this skin condition for years now and I FINALLY got a clear skin recently : after years of trying products after products, diy solutions etc, doing researches, hearing everything and it's opposites Here is the skincare that helped got rid of seborrheic on my face : - Paula's Choice exfoliator Aha 8% (as the BHA is not fungal/seborrheic safe) - Simple "kind to skin" face wash - Tea Tree Oil (some drops in my face wash once a week) - The Organic Squalane Oil (to seal my hydratation) - Paula's Choice 50 SPF sunscreen everyday - Drinking lots of filtered lemon water and spirulina. I still didn't clear my hair scalp (which has gotten worse since I started working out) and my ears but I know that like my face it's possible and I can do it. For anyone struggling with this right now you are not alone, there is hope to have clear healthy skin everywhere!! Don't give up 💚✨ Update : I managed to clear my scalp. I have 4C hair so I oil my pree poo my scalp with MCT oil then wash with a tea tree anti dandruff shampoo (not sulfate free sadly) and then I apply Paul Mitchell "The conditionner" all of those products are fungal safe and even contain ingredients to fight against sd

I have had it on my scalp for 40 years. I find neutrogena T Gel shampoo works well to calm down a flare up. Much better than the T Sal shampoo. Smells terrible but really works .hope this helps someone 😀
I have the worst oily, itchy, irritating scalp, and I started using the T/Sal shampoo on Saturday and for the first time in a LONG time, my scalp feels normal.
Probably shouldn’t but I used hair and shoulders clinical on my scalp and face when I shower. I do this every other day (even if I don’t flair up) and it’s changed my life. I don’t flair up, I don’t get any red skin anywhere. It’s amazing, I feel like I have normal skin now.
This works for me, too. Head & Shoulders Clinical Strength has virtually eliminated my dandruff and also helps a lot with flakes in my eyebrows and beard area. It doesn't irritate my face like at least one other dandruff shampoo that I tried, so I'd say that it's safe to use on most faces.
I use the "Head & Shoulders for Seborrheic Dermatitis" on my face daily. When I get in the shower I apply it to the face first thing, then do my normal body wash and shampoo (though I do the H&S Seb Derm as a shampoo three times a week). Then I wash it off and go on with my day. Been doing this for a couple of years now and not had any problems and it's kept the Seb Derm at bay.
Seborrheic dermatitis popped up when hashimotos thyroiditis set in when I was 28. Thankfully after being diagnosed by my reproductive endocrinologist, put on 112 mcg of levothyroxine daily, and using the Nioxin System 6 shampoo and conditioner, my scalp has made a drastic turn around. Seborrheic dermatitis is not fun to deal with!!
I think I have SD. I was put on levothyroxine back in August for low thyroid and noticed earlier this month that I dont have the severely flakey scalp that I used to. I was wondering if the meds had anything to do with it. You’re post just confirmed my suspicion!
@@chelseazaydaraensehon1198 I do have some thinning in 2 spots near my hairline. But I believe it’s due to my auto-immune disease and the medication I take for it.
I've been suffering from scalp irritation for years and the only thing that has helped calm down my flare ups is salicylic acid. Thank you so much for sharing this information; it has been a game changer.
I highly recommend alternating between multiple shampoos if you have stubborn SD on the scalp. I rotate between Nizoral, Neutrogena TGel Extra Strength, Head and Shoulders Extra Strength, and a Tea Tree Oil Shampoo, using one per day in a four day cycle, and it's the only method I've found to keep mine in check. It's common for SD to adapt and repel the effects of a single shampoo.
@@naildbyj7527 i use a different shampoo each day in a 4 day cycle. the 3 dandruff shampoos listed in the comment above with a tea tree oil shampoo being the 4th. after the tea tree oil on 4th day i start the cycle over
Dr. Day, I wanted to give you a huge thank you, for explaining why I had these scales coming up and disappearing around my nose, mouth and random spots on my chin. Went and got the Neutrogena oil free acne wash, and it cleaned everything off the first day, second day of application, even though the scales are putting up a good fight, Its doing wonders. I actually feel better about going out now! Thank you for helping anyone that has this disease, you're changing lives.
I had severe facial and scalp seborrheic dermatitis, but I'm SB free for a year now. For face use keratolitycs like AHA's and BHA's, and ketoconazole shampoo for your scalp. No need to use complicated fungal-safe routine because this products will always keep your sebo in check. 🧡
I just started having issues after my daughter was born. It has really done a number in my self esteem. My dermatologist prescribed the ketoconazole and hydrocortisone 50/50 mix for 2 weeks and it just didn’t really help a lot. I am so encouraged after watching this and can’t wait to try some of these products. I feel like a monster. Even covering it up with makeup is difficult because of the scaliness and flakes. I feel alone in this struggle and frustrated. I always have had great skin and now it’s awful. Sara Winter
The cause of my SD was Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Once I excluded that from my hair and face products, the SD went away. I even changed my toothpaste and haven't had a single canker sore since doing that. I now use a gentle SLS-free cleanser once a day and moisturize with Cetaphil Restoraderm 2/day. All good for 2 years now.
Thank for you creating this video. I was diagnosed with SD several years ago. At the time of diagnosis, I was going through the worst break EVER! I cried a LOT - I had NO idea what was going on. However, I found an AMAZING dermatologist in my area that knew exactly what is was within 2 minutes of examine me. I was so happy to know what it was. I could face it head on. I have been able to maintain control and adjust when I have a break out. Knowledge is power!!! And now I have found your channel! I love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to create them and share you knowledge, product suggestions and recommendation. I look forward to your next video.
Ive delt with this on my scalp and face for the past 20 years. I use monistat vaginal yeast cream to keep my flair ups under control. HEY...... whatever stops the itching and burning.
This is way more educational information than I got from 2 different dermatologists. Thank you for explaining causes and solutions other than steroids. I will start tomorrow with your suggestions. Mine has gotten painful so this is a God send! Bless you and the people’s comments.

This is my regimen the past 5 weeks that have yielded visible SD results. I have textured hair and dark skin: Scalp: Once a week I use Head and Shoulders on the scalp. I let it sit while I do my regular shower stuff, rinse, then use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner on my hair so my hair doesn't dry out. Forehead: Daily wash my face with plain water. Use the psoriasis cream from dollar tree as a moisturizer daily. Its 2% salicylic acid. I also apply it to my hairline since thats where I tend to see the SD start flaking, before I feel anything itching. If I feel my scalp getting itchy or see white patches, I dab a little Fruit of The Earth 100% Aloe Vera Gel on the area. I also started taking caprylic acid to combat the candida overgrowth.
Dermazen is a newer company that has released a natural serum for seborrheic dermatitis, and it’s pretty affordable. They also have a whole free guide on how to improve and even cure it. I was diagnosed with seb derm October of last year. My dermatologist proscribed my a 2% ketoconazole cream, and it helped with the discoloration that I was having around my mouth and chin area. I had another flare up that start in February of this year, and it’s still going. I have been trying everything I could find to help, but there isn’t very many thing I know about, because I’m still learning. I have never had to deal with anything like this before. I have never had problems with my skin, except for the occasional break out, so this was a really hard punch in the gut to my already low self esteem. This video was really helpful to me. Definitely going to try these products. Thank you for the tips!💜
Yes happened to me too- I had pretty good skin for college years, then a lot of awful stuff happened in my life and during that time of extreme stress I was blessed with this nonsense
This seems like what I have. My face has been flaking for about 9 years now. Before this, for a number of years, I used to spend generally a couple hours a day in the sun/heat, then stopped. I noticed I started experiencing a flaky forehead, eyebrows, sides of nose, cheeks, along the edge of my face near my ears, but it's been by far much more prominent on my forehead/eyebrows than those other spots. So, because there were no other significant changes in lifestyle, logically I always figured it was lack of sun/vitamin D deficiency. Curious, I tested this theory a few times now. Every time I made an effort to get some sun, let's say 30+ mins at a time, the flaking would virtually disappear. The results were even better the more frequently during a week that I did this, as the effect (very little to no flaking at all) would last a few days after stopping sun exposure. In contrast, when I began again staying away from the sun for longer periods, the major flaking would return. So I think increasing my vitamin D, strengthening my body's natural defenses with nutrition, and overall having better self-care (improved personal hygiene, not being so isolated, properly managing stress/anxiety/depression, etc) would solve this issue for me. 😊
The same thing happened to me. During times when I was tanning or out in the sun every day for hours, my face cleared up. So I used a vitamin d supplement with 2000iu. Still have seborrheic dermatits 🙁
I got horrible seb derm on my scalp when i was 14, the same time I became allergic to dogs and nuts. Super thick scaley patches all over my scalp! It was horrible! My derm prescribed me all different topical drops to use, and various topical treatments to soften the scales. Nothing worked, except topical hydro cortisone 1% (scalpicin is the brand name) and Tsal shampoo! I’m now 20 and use the hydrocortisone drops 1x a week ish after showering and use the shampoo 2x a week. Did it every day until scales were gone. Took years to figure out what works for me but it was life changing!
Holy moly.. I think I’ve dealt with this… for years now… I’ve always been told I’ve had a dry scalp. Mentioning how stress can cause a flare up of this makes so much sense. For the past month I’ve started to get red scaly patches of this especially around my mouth/nose/cheeks area on my face. Last month my grandma passed away unexpectedly and a week ago one of my best friend’s passed away as well. Since then the amount of stress I’ve felt is overwhelming.. with that the patches on my face have gotten much worse and very irritated..
I’m a black American so my skin tone is darker. It shows up on my face under my nose very prevalent as a much lighter shade. It messed with my confidence for a while. Once I started using the Z bar soap on my face it completely disappeared, the only caveat is I incorporate washing my face with the zinc soap every day (which you should have a skin care routine daily anyway). I hope this helps someone

GIRL! Thank you so much for making this video. My area just got some extremely low temperatures that my body has never endured before, and all of a sudden I got red, itchy, and flaky around my nose. I thought I was breaking out with a rash or something, but watching this I've realized that I've had SD since elementary school. I am going to get these products that you mentioned, and hopefully this flare up will go away. Thanks again Dr. Dray!!!
The timing of this video couldn’t be any better and I’ve been noticing my scalp having issues. I love H&S clinical, and now that the weather is colder, I think I need to start using it daily.
The best one that works is AsIAm the blue bottle. It works on your scalp, and face. It literally keeps the inflammation away without drying your hair and skin. Plus tea tree oil. I stopped wasting money on all those other products.
What really helped me was Head & Shoulders clinical, but also I need to change active ingredients every 8 weeks or so. Neutrogena also makes T/Gel, which really helped me get control of a flare up.
Something that helped regarding scalp care is to dry my scalp completely after washing it. I used to allow my hair to dry dry but I found this would make flare ups worse. I found that heat helps.
@@madilyndunn130 I’d recommend skipping the dryer and just using a towel. I used to just let my hair drip dry. I thought those fancy microfiber towels were a waste of money, and now I have a 3-4 of them. I just squeeze and pat my hair dry. My roots dry almost immediately, and my ends take 3-4 hours.
Always so nice to hear Dr dray.. since i moved on to france i have a very bad problem with this.. scalp ... eyelashes and eyebrows... it is so embarrassing !!!
I flare up with this every autumn and through winter… The eyebrows and the nose wings, sometimes stretches to the cheeks… NOTHING has calmed it or got rid of it. After a derm appointment the Dr recommended to change shampoos every 4-6 months. There isn’t just one active ingredient that works for me, so I change between selsun, nizoral, neutrogena, head and shoulders and so on. My scalp changed after that, I have dark skin and my hairline was all in a lighter colour, and I have my hairline colour back now. It became manageable. I hope this helps anyone struggling.

@KiranMai Buchupalle I have it on my face (I’m almost 30) and it’s been that way for almost two months now. I recently went to the doctor and he told me to get Hydrozole cream, which is a combination of Hydrocortisone (corticosteroid) and Clotrimazole (anti-fungal). I’ve noticed a drastic decrease in the redness, flakiness, and irritation in my first week of treatment. I didn’t notice any dandruff on my scalp, but he also recommended a shampoo called Selsun Gold (Selenium disulphide) as anti dandruff treatment which is also used as a facial wash in severe cases (see the label). I’m by no means a dermatologist, but my background is in pharmacology and after doing a whole bunch of research I can say that my doctor’s advice holds up. I don’t know where you live but in Australia, they’re available over the counter and without a prescription.
I’ve had seborrheic dermatitis, I’ve had it for years. I’m pregnant now and it’s been flaring lately. A combination of exfoliating combined with selenium Sulfide shampoo, eucerin cream, and aquaphor have helped. I also use occusoft eyelid scrub and hypochlorus acid on my eyelids when it flares on the eyelids. There is also a scrub for the eyelids meant for demodex that is also helpful. I find with the scalp products that I have to switch them up with each flare. What works one time may not work the next. Overall, loosening the scales first with some kind of exfoliating such as with salicylic acid, then going in with the treatment product seems to work best for me. I have used prescription steroid creams in the past but I’m unsure if they’re actually safe during pregnancy.
Hey! I know this is a little late. But I'm currently pregnant and my SD has flared up a lot. I never had it on my face before. But now I have spots all over my forehead and one side of my face. I just wanted to find out if it disappeared/reduced to pre-pregnancy levels once you delivered your child. I'm counting on that to be very honest.

Good coverage of the basics, but surprised she didn't distinguish between moisturizers that feed malassezia yeast and those that don't. Most moisturizers contain long-chain fatty acids (e.g. stearic acid/stearate, palmitic acid/palmitate, etc.) that create a feast for malassezia. A few, like squalane, aloe, and glycerin, don't, but they can be hard to find, especially in combination. I basically purchase them separately and combine them into my own moisturizer.
i had this for more than 10 years now. but i had it under control with only 3 products: 1.shower 2 or 3 times a week with Nizoral shampoo. 2. Use a cream like Advantan to calm down the inflamation. 3. And my personal favorite is BLUE CAP SPRAY (catalysis). After the shampoo or after washing the face, use the spray to the face area where the inflamation is. it will burn a little at the beggining but after a few minutes use the cream to let things work smoothly. Problem is that sometimes this is unpredictable and can cause irritation even bleeding sometimes if the procedure is not done sistematically. Hope it works, good luck.
I have to say that Dr. Dray is very through in giving information about products pertaining to specific skin issues, it's almost at an encyclopedic level, great videos
I went to a dermatologist and she prescribed me Triamcinolone Acetonide cream 0.1% and Ketoconazole cream 2%. You mix both creams together and apply to effected areas and it knocks it out very quickly. Usually one day and you cant see any irritation at all. I highly recommend going for a visit to get this combo. Also mix with the products Dr. Dray mentions and you have yourself a super plan to control this awful condition. Good luck all.
I notice I get flare ups seasonally with the change of the weather. I mainly have it on my scalp and hairline, Nizoral is a little pricy but it works great. If I get a patch on my face I will use a tiny amount of Nizoral on it, let it sit for a minute, then rinse.
I have it alllll over my body, my legs, arms, ofcourse my scalp and ears and just under my eyebrows. I take no birth control and I’ve been using head & shoulders forever and it still isn’t gone.
I use the Vichy Dercos anti-dandruff shampoo and it's the only one that's worked for me. Sometimes I rub the suds behind my ears and around my nose which seems to calm down the flareups.
Using also Vichy Dercos as my Shampoo and Uriage DS Foaming Gel as facial wash along with La Roche Posay Kerium DS Creme & Micellar Water . After 5 days it improved a lot and my facial skin started to peel off. Its looking so much better say by day.
Me and my dad have this. I have my dad's scalp. I waited so long to see a dermatologist, and I recommend people just *go* and see someone sooner rather than later. It often starts with an itch for me, and some flaking. The redness comes later, but sometimes it's just bad from the get-go. You never can tell. Your tip about letting Head & Shoulders sit for a couple minutes has worked wonders though, for beginning SD (just the start of some flakes at the temples for instance). I immediately told my dad. Now we don't have to bust out the Nizoral 2% that often (it's expensive at about 14.25 euro regular price for 100ml). Thank you so much for sharing that tip with the world! :D

I just got officially diagnosed with seb derm by my dermatologist. She prescribed a topical cream, a hair leave in mouse and a prescription zinc shampoo. So far its improving but i think i have to try some other otc stuff to help it along as well. The cream definitely has gotten the flakes to subside in my ears.
I found the following helps my Seb Derm around my nose. -Drinking lots of water. -Not so hot shower’s. -Using Vaseline as a barrier/moisturizer in the night. - Selsin Blue on my hair on face. Really drying on the face though. - Zoryve prescription cream from Dermatologist. -Doxycycline antibiotic from dermatologist when really bad.
I find my SD actually flares more during the hotter months primarily because my oil production seems to amp up. I agree about Inkey List…..it has been a life saver. I use the sal cleanser to control the oil over the summer months but back off during the winter and use the hyaluronic cleanser. As for shampoos I had been using First Aid Beauty shampoo and sal acid serum combo but The Body Shop just released a new ginger shampoo ,conditioner and serum line that contains willow bark (which is a plant version of sal acid) and after several weeks of use I LOVE IT! It’s a really refreshing change from the atypical scents you get in dandruff shampoos and it does its job.
Interesting that most here have issues during warmer weather, mine flairs up pretty severely when it even starts getting cooler out. They really need to find a one and done solution for seb derm. Whether it’s some type of lazer skin therapy or an inhibitor of some type. Not to oversimplify this, but if we can place stents in hearts.. we should be able to find/cure a common skin condition like this.
My daughter has seborrheic dermatitis around her nose ( she just entered puberty ) and keeps on getting the scaly red inflamed patches. Thanks for this in-depth video and I'm so glad you give recommendations for real products to try, not just theoretical knowledge!
I believe that there's a correlation between fungus and seborrheic dermatitis. I used to have completely & I mean 100% clear skin. I'm a pca so I had to shower someone w/ a rash. His skin touched mine and I've been dealing w/ this condition ever since 😔. But when I go to the doctors they say that I just have "acne" 🙄. I'm so tired of doctors not listening to me. If you look somewhat attractive they think you're fine. It's sad. I appreciate this video. Will have to try those out!!
I could cry. Thank you so much Dr. Dray! My 5 yo has been suffering with something and none of the derms we went to thought to tell me it was SD. we’ve been using Tgel and Tsal for over a year now and seen amazing results but her eyes, ears(canals and inner and behind), underarms, and groin are constant flairs. I haven’t been hitting those areas with any SA or other items you mentioned. Trying it all! Thank you!!! 🥹🥹
A bit late my dermatologist recommended me topical cream called desonide specifically for the ears. And this type of topical cream is also mentioned in this video. Maybe speak to your doctor or if dermatologist is available about this as a possible solution for these areas.
Thank you so much! Her scalp is our only remaining problem area thankfully. We’ve started treatment with a new steroid at a new derm and hoping that will address it. But pimecromelus(sp?) has been a huge life saver for her.
I have rosacea and seb derm. I use nizoral shampoo 3 times per week along with the vanicream anti dandruff shampoo. Let both sit in my hair and my skin for 6 -8 mins each and let some of the suds from both shampoo sit on my face also. It’s really helped control it for me. My moisturise is the cerave in a tub and my sunscreen is Elta md uv clear. I use prescription metrogel at night also (sometimes use prescription fineca) depending on what my dermatologist has advised. My make up is tinted sunscreen Elta md uv elements. Hope this helps someone. 💜
I avoided sugar completely. By sugar i mean every thing related to sugar. Cake, sweets, cookies, sugar in the tea etc. And im free from it completely. It was very stressfull for the last one year when i had it and avoiding sugar helped alot. Even doctors wont say that it is bcs of sugar and will suggest you to use steroid shamboo or tar shamboo and salicylic acid. After applying salicylic acid your hair will be very dry and wont feel that good.Try avoiding sugar and it may help most of you guys.
Fungus feeds on sugar. When you make it starve that is when it goes away. Its really tough to avoid sugar.I have had this for 2 years now.I still try avoiding sugar as much as possible so atleast it doesn't itch and burn
I've suffered with SB for 25 yrs till I watched this video! Had been to dozens of dermatologists in several countries and nothing really worked... This simple method has kept me clean for 2 months (I was having flare ups every week) Salicylic acid is great! I'm combing the Neutrogena face wash with a Bioderma Sensibio DS+ cream during the day..... No more corticosteroids or strong medicines...My life has truly changed. Thanks a lot!
You don't need to use any products. Just wash your face 4 to 5 times a day (with cold water) and then gently scrub dry with a face cloth/flannel. Been doing this for 7 months & not had a flare up since.
Wow this is so amazing. I was just wondering why my eyebrows are so flakey. I’m always combing the flakes out. Sometimes they’re stubborn I have to use tweezers to pick at it. Thank you dr dray I hope this works well for me! I’m tired of raw red eyebrows after combing 😭
Update: Been dealing with this awful skin condition since Feb. After 3 dermatologists, trying various precriptions - so far this is what is making this disappear and not spread for me within 5 days in this order: A.M & P.M: 1. Wiping area & w/ red box Stridex pads which are salicylic acid. 2. washing area w/Head and Shoulders Classic Clean which has zinc pyrithione 3. Applying Ordinary brand Niacinimide 10%zinc1% 4. Then for moisturizer applying La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Night creme. Si far so good - time will tell, Best Wishes!!!
I was diagnosed with seb derm when I was a teenager. It came back recently when I started spending a lot of time with my new boyfriend ! Right at the start of our relationship, I got red, flaky and sensitive patches on my nose, around my nose and lips, as well as flakes on the scalp around my face. Then we didn’t see each other during lockdown, and my skin got back to normal. As soon as we were reunited, the red patches and flakes went back ! I don’t see any other changes in my lifestyle that could have worsened this condition, and living as a couple hasn’t been stressful at all, quite the contrary.
I have been suffering with this for 4 years now. I recently tried using pure shea butter after washing my face, and I was shocked to see how it keeps it in check. I'm not certain how, but it does it for me. I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but keeping my face moisturized with it has been a life saver.
@@Ameelz but you are born with PCOS, symptoms don’t show up until you hit puberty though. Im 28 and sub derm showed up in 2018 when my pcos symptoms hit their peak.
D.S. Emulsion by Uriage is an incredible mosturizer for Seb derm as well, sometimes I use it on its own and it gets rids of the redness and the flakes and gets rid of the itching
The D.S. by Uriage, both the face wash and the moisturiser, were recommended to me after a visit to the dermatologist. For me the moisturiser is the only one that allows my skin to breathe after applying it since sometimes my skin feels so tight that I can't even smile or do any simple face gestures.
I met with a dermatologist for the first time yesterday after more than six years of struggling with this condition on my face. She prescribed me steroid cream and a non steroid cream to use for controlling the flare. I picked up prescriptions just to have available, but I want to use a holistic approach first. I had no idea and Im shocked this can be related to hair hygiene. I stopped washing my hair six years ago because I thought it was making me go bald. My hair is extremely short so I didn't think eliminating shampoo from my hygiene route could have created this problem. I also have an oily skin type. Reading all of this comments has me in tears because I felt like the only person that dealt with the very frustrating skin condition. Thank you so much Dr. Dray. This video and comment section has been so helpful. My journey to recovery starts today
Ketoconazole cream works like a miracle for controlling my seb-derm! And Oh how I wish it was available over the counter! Mine tends to flare up during season changes (summer to fall.) Crazy as it sounds ....it flares up many times a couple of days before the weather changes. Stress / lack of sleep can also exacerbate my seb-derm. Pyrithrione zinc shampoos work best for my scalp.
I have seb derm mostly on my forehead. Mine weeps more than flakes. The vanicream z bar helped me so much!! Especially because I have a fragrance skin allergy, it's fragrance free! Acupuncture has also helped it over the years. THANK U DR DRAY FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!
How do you use the vanicream z bar? Do use it before your daily cleanser or do you use it after? Can it be used as a daily cleanser? I just wanna know if it's effective. I've been dealing with seb derm since I was 8th grade and it's getting worse lately. I can afford to buy more skin care product so I'm curious if the Vanicream Z bar will really work.
I have suffered with this for over 30 years and I have survived anxiety and deep depression from all of the isolation of going out into public and even church and at work with always getting asked what's wrong with your face and the one that gets me most is when people have a face to face conversation with me the first thing that they do is touch their own face while looking at mine as if their face is damaged in the same exact spot as mine. If I had $20 for every time that a person does that I would be a Billionaire. It's so annoying having irregular two-toned skin and my affected area is on both sides of my nose and underneath my nose and chin area... I have spent $100's on name-brand concealers for men just for my face to look presentable and it's complicated to apply when your skin-tone is so uneven nothing has ever really worked and I stopped taking dangerous liver killer drugs from prescriptions! Thank you for taking out the time to research on Seborrheic Dermatitis for extreme suffers as myself...I'm going to try everything that you've suggested to see if I get the best results I'm almost 60 and this sucks!
I have been on steroids for many years. They are really strong and highly encourage others to avoid them if possible. Will be trying the leave ons to see if it helps. Good luck everyone!

I had it terribly on my eyebrows and sides of my nose and parts of my forehead.. It was really messing with my self esteem. Here is the skincare that helped got rid of seborrheic on my face :
- Paula's Choice exfoliator Aha 8% (as the BHA is not fungal/seborrheic safe)
- Simple "kind to skin" face wash
- Tea Tree Oil (some drops in my face wash once a week)
- The Organic Squalane Oil (to seal my hydratation)
- Paula's Choice 50 SPF sunscreen everyday
- Drinking lots of filtered lemon water and spirulina.

Forehead: Daily wash my face with plain water. Use the psoriasis cream from dollar tree as a moisturizer daily. Its 2% salicylic acid. I also apply it to my hairline since thats where I tend to see the SD start flaking, before I feel anything itching.

How long did it take for the color to come back

Did u wear sunscreen during that time too ? & if so what brand? Thank u for ur answer in advance 💕
90% of the aging of the skin, comes from the sun, be careful
The same thing happened to me. During times when I was tanning or out in the sun every day for hours, my face cleared up. So I used a vitamin d supplement with 2000iu. Still have seborrheic dermatits 🙁
@@Unlucky13ification so the supplement didn't help ?
@@Unlucky13ification i read somewhere that the UV light from the sun kills the malassezia bacteria. So i am not sure whether vitamin D helps at all.
Holy moly.. I think I’ve dealt with this… for years now…
I’ve always been told I’ve had a dry scalp.
So sorry for the losses you've experienced. 💛

Dray!!!
Did it work?
Do we need to avoid moisturizers with oils, fatty acids, and esters like for fungal acne?
The timing of this video couldn’t be any better and I’ve been noticing my scalp having issues. I love H&S clinical, and now that the weather is colder, I think I need to start using it daily.
I use that too. I found it has been the one that works the best
I use H&S Clinical as well and it’s really the only product that works for me.
The Head and Shoulders Clinical has really helped me with Seborrheic Dermititis.
Same its the best my scalp came out in 3 inch patches
Something that helped regarding scalp care is to dry my scalp completely after washing it. I used to allow my hair to dry dry but I found this would make flare ups worse. I found that heat helps.
I have also noticed the same thing. But after a year of blow drying my hair, the hair at my crown is totally fried/ broken because of it!
Often, products causes burning sensations in those flaring areas. Makes my life a total misery clockwork. Within the next 30 days, it will start since we’re in September… Goodbye to makeup or hello “cakey porridge face”…. Tried so many products, I don’t even know what to try anymore… Will look for Z-bar….
Ketaconzole shampoo worked wonders for my seborrheic dermatitis. Cleared it within a couple days after using it each night. Highly recommend
Did your color come back on your hairline?
I thought dermatitis was being addicted to Dr Dray videos

I have it on my scalp slightly. I’m 15 and it just started acting out and I’m not sure what to do. I haven’t been diagnosed but after research i am positive I have it. It only really acts up at night but I shower with it and it calms quickly but I don’t know what to do

Ive been suffering from this for almost a year but now it has lessened thanks to this video.
I experimented with alot of things but this is what I did. I have very sensitive skin.
Use anti dandruff shampoo 2x a day and ketoconazole cream 2x a day. Yes it will sting at first because of the flaked skin but use it everyday because I healed my dermatitis I've been suffering for a year in just 2 weeks.
Hope this helps! 😁
Use it less if the dermatitis lessened but continue it for atleast 4 weeks

Good coverage of the basics, but surprised she didn't distinguish between moisturizers that feed malassezia yeast and those that don't. Most moisturizers contain long-chain fatty acids (e.g. stearic acid/stearate, palmitic acid/palmitate, etc.) that create a feast for malassezia. A few, like squalane, aloe, and glycerin, don't, but they can be hard to find, especially in combination. I basically purchase them separately and combine them into my own moisturizer.
i had this for more than 10 years now. but i had it under control with only 3 products:
1.shower 2 or 3 times a week with Nizoral shampoo.
@Bea's Bayou are your products science-backed?

I went to a dermatologist and she prescribed me Triamcinolone Acetonide cream 0.1% and Ketoconazole cream 2%. You mix both creams together and apply to effected areas and it knocks it out very quickly. Usually one day and you cant see any irritation at all. I highly recommend going for a visit to get this combo. Also mix with the products Dr. Dray mentions and you have yourself a super plan to control this awful condition. Good luck all.

Same I'm having this issue right now and I'm pregnant so it's going crazy right now
Mine flares up bad during the warmer months as well. Not as much when it cools down
Interesting that most here have issues during warmer weather, mine flairs up pretty severely when it even starts getting cooler out.
They really need to find a one and done solution for seb derm. Whether it’s some type of lazer skin therapy or an inhibitor of some type. Not to oversimplify this, but if we can place stents in hearts.. we should be able to find/cure a common skin condition like this.

Dray.
