    I've removed these at home by applying a generous dab of salicylic acid gel (the kind used for acne) and topping it with a bandaid. Changed it daily for 2 or 3 days. The barnacle softened and began to disintegrate, and I was able to scrape the rest off with a thumbnail.

    I have lots of these and after a large one on my face was zapped three years in a row (with liquid nitrogen) by my dermatologist with no result, I decided to try tea tree oil. Amazing! Took a couple of weeks with daily application but it is gone with no scarring and has not returned. I use tea tree oil on lesions from shingles as well and it works. I believe more research should be done with these traditional remedies--they've worked for centuries!

    Hi Dr Dray! I have skin tags (acrochordons) everywhere but especially in the face around the eyes. Over the years, I have tried all the methods. The first time it was a surgeon who removed them from me and it was by laser. Every four years, I see a dermatologist and everyone has their favorite method. Of the methods I've tried, I hate cryotherapy. A feeling of pinch and burning that I don't want to experience in the future. I have to make an appointment but the waiting time is still too long. Here in Quebec, you have to be very...very...patient! No method has left any traces except once when I didn't choose a good dermatologist. Here we have a doctor's prescription and last time I paid $10 CDN for the liquid (nitrogen) but no cost to remove them. If you go to a private clinic, it's faster but you have to pay!

    Just had over 200 of these frozen two days ago (used a canister and a half) and after was on fire! I wish I'd taken an Aleve beforehand. I'm wonderfully speckled and can't wait for them to fall off. They're all over my torso, neck and bra line and makes wearing a bra uncomfortable. I've had some really large ones removed two years ago and leaves a light spot behind. I hate that they grow back but I have noticed they seem to come back skin-toned rather than dark brown. Thanks for the great info, Doc.

      @@ilovecornell After my dermatologist treatments …..I decided to use glycolic acid (“The Ordinary” brand …about $7.00 per bottle) applied a little on a round cotton pad and applied it to the area every other day and then every day. Glycolic acid is a strong exfoliate and may be too harsh for sensitive skin. Glycolic Acid worked for me and therefore I didn’t use the peroxide, but so nice to know it is an option. Lactic acid may also work for some people. Hope this is helpful. Happy Holidays!

I've been suffering from nodular acne from 4 years now, my dermatologist only ever prescribes me benzoyl peroxide (which gives me extreme swelling and extreme peeling) or oral antibiotics, which don't seem to work well either. I discussed this problem with my dermatologist again and she gave me vitamin B12 shots, 4 per month which didn't seem to work either. Then i switched dermatologist and she took me off all medication and prescribed me to 0.1% adapalene, been using it for 2 years now, still no change but my dermatologist insists that i keep using it....

    Thanks Dr. Dray. My dermatologist used cryotherapy, which did absolutely nothing, and called it a day. I then used a compounding pharmacy product called WartPeel, which reduced one of them, but it came back a year later. My previous dermatologist had prescribed WartPeel to treat warts that I got from my nail/pedicure shop -- it worked but it took a long time. None of those warts have returned. I need to try something else for the SK.

      Was that the chlorhexidine? Very commonly used by dentists where I am, pre-procedure etc.

    • @firnheledien
      @firnheledien 4 года назад

      Chronic use of chlorhexidine has been linked to the development of severe allergy to it especially if the mucosa or skin is broken. I would keep it for your acute dental setting (post oral surgery etc).

    • @Asptuber
      @Asptuber 4 года назад

      @@firnheledien That seems to be how it is mostly used here. Interestingly it is OTC, but every dentist I've ever seen has said to use it sparingly, or as a first aid (which you would naturally do since all preparations I've tried has tasted horrible).
