Prayer answered!👏🏽 I started suffering with this in my 20s and it's been a struggle ever since. Seen a couple of dermatologists for the condition, but this video has been the most helpful. Unfortunately, my son started suffering from this some years back as well and he's only 11. This is especially helpful because it's practical. You provide solutions that a black woman (and child), with kinky/coily hair can actually implement. The first derm I saw told me to wash my 4c afro daily with a drying medicated shampoo. Side eye and goodbye. The second one simply reiterated using the medicated shampoo, with no additional information. After lots of research, trial and error, and coming close (many times) to shaving my head just to be able to wash it daily, my the condition is under better control. However, this information you provided will help to improve our routines even more. I never knew the importance of using the leave on scalp treatments. That will definitely be added. I appreciate this thorough explanation more than you know. Thank you again for all you do!
I have a sensitive itchy dermatitis scalp, folliculitis, and very coarse thick wavy salt and pepper hair. I just tried Superzero solid shampoo for flakes and itches and it made my scalp feel less itchy. It also made my hair shiny, soft, and bouncy. Love it so far!
This video definitely helped me with my SD. I had been dealing with it for a while and seen a doc that prescribed me ketaconazole and it didn’t help. After watching this and following the directions given, my SD has started to clear up 🙌🏾. Thank you for making this video.
What a great video that is full of information. In fact, my friend was also suffering from this problem. During this problem, he was very upset. Thank you so much... I've been suffering for years with dry skin behind my ears, eyelids and around my nose... Nothing has really fixed the issue, not even the cream my doctor prescribed me. Hoping to get relief soon.

I've used prescription shampoos, every over the counter dandruff shampoo and I use Bethamethasone Dipropionate Lotion 5%. I'm currently using the clinical strength Head and Shoulders that you show along with their itch scalp version. The Bethamethasone helps in my ears and relieves some of the itching on my scalp but nothing has ever controlled the dandruff, loss of pigmentation on my forehead, the bleeding and now the hair loss. I also have Eczema on my elbows, legs feet, etc.. Having this condition on my hair is one of my very first memories. At 61 I still walk around with my clothes full of dandruff. It's an embarrassment to me and it was to my kids when they were little. Now that I'm older these shampoos strip the color out of my hair. The Head and Shoulders Clinical is more delicate on my hair color. Thank you for the video.
Thank you. I appreciate these tips. I went to a dermatologist before about my scalp issue and they just brushed me off. The doctor actually said “ I’m surprised you was your hair once a week, most African Americans only wash their hair once a month.” 😑
I started putting the Dandruff shampoo on my scalp versus my hair & boy did that make a difference. Thanks so much! My scalp hasn't been itchy or flakey.
Thank you for Medical Mondays!!! I have tried every last one of those products and they flare my seborrheic dermatitis. The absolute best and most efficient treatment for me is mixture of Apple-Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda. Saved my life and my wallet, not to mention how great my scalp feels for weeks afterward.

Thank you so much, I am looking forward to next Medical Monday! I would love to see something about contact dermatitis or topical allergies. I've just recently been diagnosed with an allergy to neosporin, and dealing with the rash has been an interesting experience. I have my first appointment with a derm in a few weeks!
Thanks for talking about this. I feel like no one has until recently, and I've had severe Seb Derm for 30 years. It seems to be much more common now. I wonder why? Some ingredients in skin products that weren't common in the past? Some water additives or food additives that weren't used as often before? I wonder if this is happening in non-Western countries, or even outside the US?
Thanks Dr. Stephen’s I just went to the doctor was a little relieved but mine too was a five minute visit he prescribed triamcinolone cream during the day and one for night time daily. Go back for follow up in 2 weeks.
Love this video. Thank you. I was wondering if you could clarify somethings. 1.) Should we be using the products for the flakes daily? 2.) How often should we switch out the different shampoos? 3.) Once the flakes are gone, should we still be doing this, or only once they reappear? Once again, thank you. Love your videos.
I am so happy to have found you today! I am 56, was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis/folliculitis (sensitive, oily, very coarse, wavy, salt and pepper hair) on my scalp over 30+ years ago, and have tried everything. I visited the dermatologist in November and she told me I don't have seborrheic dermatitis anymore but I still have folliculitis and a very sensitive on the oily prone to scabs scalp. She advised me not to use any irritating products. I prefer clean natural products. I have found that a clean clarifying shampoo works best for me, leaves my scalp clean and clear, and keeps my hair cleaner. It allows me to to only shampoo only 2x a week.
My scalp had become really sensitive and a constant burning pain sensation. I was so relieved with the SB diagnosis from my dermatologist, because I knew something was wrong, but didn't have a name for it. I can't believe the pain and discomfort! My hair is too sensitive to comb at the moment. I really hope the prescription shampoo and steroid oil work!
I've been struggling with this condition for several years, but believe I may have recently stumbled upon something that really seems to be helping. I started taking both MSM and selenium (sodium selenite) for other reasons, and my skin has improved dramatically. Other people have had success with caprylic acid, and I do think that helped as well. I think all these things have the potential to help a lot, and it might be worth talking to a doctor about.
Thank you. I will do some research and see if any of these will work for me. I always treat "natural supplements" with the same caution as prescription medication. The side effects can be just as bad. But when you're careful they can (sometimes) be much more effective than meds, not to mention cheaper. For these reasons I normally try "natural" first then prescription when all else fails.
Thank you for this info!! Could you do a video on those white spots you mentioned from this fungus and how to get rid of them? My poor daughter suffers from these white spots especially in the summer when she gets a tan, they standout. It is good to know the spots are linked to the dandruff that she has been suffering from 😢

@@nahshon2281 DHS Zinc shampoo and any conditioner that I have. For me I’ve found that the shampoo is what made the difference not so much the conditioner. Hope it helps you too
Oh we are supposed to use it on dry hair? I missed that part
I didn't hear her say that. How in the world would you spread it? It would also be almost impossible to rinse out without saturating the rest of your hair. @@BriMyselfandGod
@@mmmelaneyaround the 7:04 min mark she provides the instructions. Apply shampoo to dry scalp only and let it sit for 5-10 min, rinse it out and follow with a moisturizing shampoo to the entire head/ hair
Great video! Please do a video on traction alopecia & hair line thinning! Love you!
I hope you can tackle excessive keratosis pilaris next time and the products and remedies that can lessen its appearance. Thanks!
Thank you sooo much 😭 I didn’t know about rotating shampoo I just figured my scalp kept adapting to it , I’ve tried so many.. thanks for your help
Such good information I am so happy for your sharing appreciate it.
This could not have come at a better time!! I’m looking forward to the next Medical Monday! 🥰
Ohhh my goodness. This is sooo BEYOND helpful!! Thank you so much. I took some goodt notes! Any tips on finding black dermatologists near me?
thank you. i have been using the medicated shampoo on my whole hair and was so dry.
now i know now its only for my scalp
This video has been so helpful! Thank you, Doc, sincerely!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you so much! You're my favorite health and beauty channel you're so thorough and show accessable products!! Excited for Monday's!!!
I didn't know I had it until I moved to America. I lived on a tropical Island and never had dry skin or dandruff.
Would love to see you cover keratosis pilaris! Please and thank you.
Thanks for the video it really helped. Could you do a video on textured skin care routine..
MCT oil and mineral oil don't feed the yeast, might be a good option to coat hair before applying medicated shampoo, thanks dr. Alexis.
Thank you, this is what I'm struggling with
Can you PLEASE do a video on above the upper lip (around the mouth) hyperpigmentation and how to treat it???
Thanks Dr. Stephen’s I just went to the doctor was a little relieved but mine too was a five minute visit he prescribed triamcinolone cream during the day and one for night time daily. Go back for follow up in 2 weeks.
Thank you for all this great information 🙏
Love this video. Thank you. I was wondering if you could clarify somethings.
1.) Should we be using the products for the flakes daily?
2.) How often should we switch out the different shampoos?
3.) Once the flakes are gone, should we still be doing this, or only once they reappear?
Once again, thank you. Love your videos.

Wish you talked about dealing with loss of pigmentation.
I'm so glad I came across your channel. I like your advice & your so soft spoken & lovely. Tfs these, now a new subbie.
Hi what is the shampoo name?
Hi, Dr. Alexis. You're so pretty 💜 thank you for the explanation!
This was so helpful. I will try these methods.
Please do a video on treating keratosis pilaris on the face 🙏🏾
Wow, so amazingly well explained. Thank you!
Your the best can you do vidoes on your night time skin care routine we love this type of videos
Thank you for this detailed video! I'm adding this things to my wash day.
I think all these things have the potential to help a lot, and it might be worth talking to a doctor about.
be careful w the powdered msm! it causes heart pain, had to go to emerg a few times bc of it!
@@leanneofori-atta137 A few times???! What would make you continue using it?
