The BEST video of the series!! Every game is different and shows what happens in real live play. I like the new ideas. I would like to see more live games exactly like this video to see different attacking tactics. Thanks!! 😀
I agree with mark because these things happen when we play pirc and I want to see how you think. How you execute an idea/tactic. Instead of 3 min if you can play 3/2 it will be great becasue with that you explain a lot more.
I noticed that too. Reminds me of when I was studying Judo, and a former Japanese Silver medalist came to Texas and gave a demonstration of various ways he could throw with a particular throw. He lined up the top ten or so players in Texas, and proceeded to go down the line in Randori (free sparing) and threw each player with the same throw within a few seconds... except for one guy, Bill who laid down flat on his back as soon as the match began. It would be like a Chess player saying "You're not going to beat me with the Pirc, because I'm going to resign before you move." Ramirez really makes Great videos.
like all this video . but the last one is funny at the begining heheh he lose some tempi for opening his file for his rook . but you can ignor it block the pawn and develop the pieces . for its part, it is the rook who is free and he lacks 12 moves for finishing his developement. the tempi is like material hehe and you managed when subsequently he lost again tempi by taking the pawn h3 and then you exchanged the bishop by developing yourself and he move another time the rook for completing the exchange etc.. but he forget that his other pieces espacialy his other rook was ofside hehe by the other hand he played the same pieces over and over again hehe. you gave him a lesson of (time) heheh and to develop well normally and manage the position and (time) hehe that's why I liked this game
I like the pion b4-b5 games with black (games 1 and 2) just to get acquainted to basic middle games idea's behind the Pirc. I sometimes find myself stuck without a clear plan after the opening with all my pieces placed as they should so a couple of basic idea's starting from there would be very helpful at my level. I generally go for a c5 break instead of e5 because e5 ends up blocking my own bishop and very hesitant to go for f5 afterwards opening my castled king without a clear plan. Thank you again for the video's! EDIT: I just went through the Pirc video again which answers most of my questions.
@@1968laugro I totally understand what you mean, Laurent. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Hopefully you liked this c6 idea enough to include it in your repertoire. That way you can alternate it with c5.

That's great to hear, Mark! Now, it is probably going to get a little challenging to stay in the 1300s, but soon you will break through 1400. Keep up the good work!
This way of teaching in video is worth many hours of readings and studies. I unconsciously adopted a part of this way of playing during my games. What is amazing is how you master this game! Once again, a very big thank you!
Just want to tell you how appreciative and a bit surprized i am these days about the favorable result i'm experiencing by using the lesson i got from watching your video! Especially the White's version of Pirc🥰! It's like an 80-90% winning average! I love that Knight's manuever from b1-d2-c4. It's like unsettling for my opponent!
I really enjoyed the second game. I learned that players at that level are all-out attackers. I learned how to defend against a massive pawn storm by trading off the minor pieces and whittling down the pawns systematically. That was amazing! I loved how you had to scramble at the end, and even with the recognized blunders that you saw as you made them, you still pulled it off. Great chess! Thanks!
I took notes on your Pirc Def and I used them best I could and defeated a dude higher rated than me ,it was a good plan ,worked good . I think he was surprised . I might of told you before ,so there a some of your videos I have to watch . Tks
Took a while but I finally stumbled upon this channel / series. I’ve been learning this opening but had not yet seen many great videos on it. 👍 This is very helpful.
wow, only one game in so far but that first game was beautiful. I think you controlled every aspect of that game start to finish.. that defense just smothered your opponent and they ended up just shuffling around more than anything. Obviously not all games are like that but this has got me interested in the Pirc, I don’t know a ton about it honestly
Loved this one too. I appreciate your showing when things don't go according to plan and we make a mistake. Still, if we stay cool, then our good set up will help us recover and even win. After seeing your video I played a game and that is what happened. I made a mistake but because the setup principles had been followed i could recover and in the end game fight I was ahead 2 passed pawns and could convert. Getting through the opening with equality or slight advantage is really a saviour. Your videos help that a lot. So, again thank you Robert.

Thank you very much NM. I got stuck to 1600 for two years. I ranked up to 1900 in less than one week because of this opening. Nice work. Can see see another session with 5 to 10 games of pirc/king's indian defence and king's indian attack? After studying the main openings it would be beneficial at this point to learn from some "more" middle games that typically arise from these openings.
At 23:45 my move from white is to move the knight to c7 attacking the rook and simultaneously attacking the knight with the bishop. Am I missing something?

awesome video, thanks! would you ever consider doing this again but with an account that you don't gain elo with so fast? i would love so much to watch you climb in elo over several games using the Pirc, KID, KIA, etc.. and with a longer time control (at least 5 minutes) so you can take time to really explain your thoughts. thanks for reading!
Hi Robert and everyone. I started trying the pirc and I was wondering what you would play as black against: 1.e4, d6 2. f4 Didn't know how to proceed right there and played e5 and transposed into kings gambit. What would you do as black? Nf6 maybe? Or c6? I'm stumped.
In the first 2 games on move 4 after white plays Bc4 have you considered 4…Nd5 5 Nd5 e4, forking with the pawn to reclaim a minor piece and winning a central pawn to disrupt the centre? I’d be interested to hear your view on that line
Hello! Yes, and it is actually a strong continuation, but keep in mind you will get positions that are not what we typically get in the Pirc. I would rather have you guys stay in your elements, but I also agree that variation is strong 👍
This opening paired with London as white, allows me to be even with way stronger players after the opening and the early middlegame. Leaves way more time to learn tactics and proper endgame ! Thank you so much for the Pirc series. Its a blessing !
You are welcome, Leon! I liked to see you understand how studying middle and endgame is extremely important. Thank you for providing such a nice and useful feedback. It means a lot 👍
@@NMRobertRamirez your videos mean a lot ! Do you have anything buyable regarding middlegame or endgame ? Your logical and well paced teaching is great !
@@Re2OnlyMove the only thing buyable is the videos I am putting every month for the members of the channel, but if you continue following this course in order, you will find valuable middlegame material. Besides, we have a long way to go in order to get you guys to master level 💪

Hola! Muchas gracias por su comentario. Me da gran satisfacción saber que le han sido útil estas clases. No deje de preguntarme cualquier duda que pueda tener y saludos! 👍
Hey Robert, in the first game with the classical variation I've been tought to take on e4 whenever the white bishop develops early to c4. This is way you would end up with an early pawn attack forking knight and bishop in the center. In the game first game this would go like: 6: Bc4, Kxe4. 7: Kxe4, d5. 8: Bd3, d5xKe4... As far as I know this line equalizes quickly but I'm curious on your take. I haven't seen this line in any of your pirc-videos but I might have overlooked something. Thanks in advance, Anders
Have you considered doing the first chessable opening repertoire for White *and* Black? This would be an awesome course. Sign me up! I've always been drawn to the Pirc/KID/KIA complex. Have you looked at any of the games of Duncan Suttles? He has some great games in the Modern/Pirc.
Loving the series on Pirc Defense! Thank you for the content, I am prepping for a tournament and adding the ideas to my repertoire. First I thought of Sicilian, but there are just too many lines :p Would appreciate if you would do a Sicilian series as well whenever if possible. Also do let me know, if I can contribute in monetary sense to your content, with whatever I can. I don't have much, but would still love to contribute :) love from India
Hello Anindya! it is great to hear you are finding these lessons helpful. Soon, I will be posting a lesson on how to use the Pirc vs the Austrian attack. You have to get that one straight because it is popular and tricky. I am planning to provide you guys with everything you need to make it to master level and of course we have to talk about the Sicilian at some point. We have a long way to go 😎Regarding your question about contributing to the channel, you can visit the channel and there you will see the option of PAYPAL where you can make a one-time contribution or you can click on JOIN and sign up for one of the membership options. Just know that you do not have to contribute. I am really thankful to those who are contributing to the channel, but it is completely optional. I am going to continue with this series regardless 👍💪

Thank you, Alvin for your feedback and for your support to the channel. It's greatly appreciated! When it comes to anxiety, I have had some students who struggled with it and I can tell you this: - It will get better as you improve and have more control over your games. Part of your anxiety might be related to not having a plan or the ability to calculate accurately enough. As you start building your opening repertoire, you will know what to do at the beginning of every game and you will also have some guidelines to follow once you transition into the middlegame. Likewise, once your visualization and calculation skills improve, you will become more effective at attacking and you will also be able to anticipate your opponent's initiatives. - It might also be lack of practice. As you play more (specially rapids and blitz) you will feel more comfortable. I do not recommend to only play blitz, but it is good to do it from time to time. Even if we play a one-hour game, we might get into time pressure and we have to know how to handle such situations. - Lastly, I always tell my students to be aware and ask themselves what is it that their opponent is threatening? Is it necessary to do something desperate such as sacrificing a piece? If the answer is no, then take the time to think of a plan and do not see ghosts. Many times, we make our opponents stronger than what they really are. **Bottom line is that as you train more, you will inevitably get stronger and getting stronger will boost your confidence. Then, before you know it, your anxiety is there only until the moment you shake hands to start the game and then it dissapears. Also, as you make mistakes and experience stressful situations, you will know yourself better. It is all part of the process. My hands still sweat a little before I play a tournament game and the moment I do the first move, it is gone. Hope this answers your question, Alvin! If not, let me know and we can talk more about it 👍
@@NMRobertRamirez Thank you very much for your response. I saw an immediate improvement when I started watching your videos just last week. I played a game today on chesscom using what I learned from your Pirc series and it is the first time since I have played that I did not have a blunder, mistake or inaccuracy with a 93% accuracy. This definitely helps a lot. Not having a set plan or strategy definitely puts me on edge and I am sure you are right about that. I am very glad I found your page. I will definitely be following all of your work and support in any way I can. You are doing great work, Thank you Sir
@@a.tigerjr.6132 thank you! Anyways, we will keep in touch as you go through the lessons. You will find other tips to improve your game and deal with the anxiety. Little by little 👍
I'm learning this and a beginner but once I've gotten to move 6 or 7 I feel like I'm just playing defense. Can you explain the method and idea of how to attack and put white on the defensive?
Hello Coach, I had a question, is it possible to play the pirc starting with 1. e4 e5 and then u can play d6 and Nf3 and the remaining plan after e5? Is it possible to play that way, and if no, then what is the reason? Thanks alot, love your videos
Hello! The main problem with it is that you will be exposed to many different openings. For example, white can play 1.e4, e5 and then 2.f4 (king's gambit). So, you have to be prepared for that and many other lines they can play vs 1..., e5 👍
It is not as good as longer games, but hopefully these games help you see some of the middlegame plans. I would recommend playing longer games for sure, but occasional speed Chess might be beneficial.
Hello. Thanks a lot for all this great lessons. I have a question. Why at 21mn13sec didn't you play Night to E4 attacking the Queen the black squared bishop and the C Night which is pin to the queen?
Hola Jon! Si, la variante Checa que aprendimos en la clase # 51 es sin fiancheto. También se pude jugar contra d4 aunque tendría un nombre diferente. Puedes mas de eso en la clase # 53 💪
I enjoy your videos and find them helpful, but I have mixed results with the pirc. When white castles long, he occupies the open D file after the pawn exchange. Also have problems getting my queen side pieces active. What am I doing wrong?
Hello! We have to get that fixed! Can you share some of those games to get a better idea of what positions you are referring to specifically? Thank you!
@@BamaRider Okay, let's talk about this ... First thing I would like to mention is that even though we learned that when they do e5 on move # 3, we trade pawns followed by Ng4, it is not the case here. On move # 7, it was more accurate to do Nd5 centralizing your knight and more importantly to not have it awkwardly placed on g4. Now, more important than that is the following. Since you are more advanced now and have more experience with this opening, you should know that after white does Bd2, we do not have to move our queen right away (even though I said so when we first talked about it) Instead, insert e5 right away and that prevents white from doing e5 themselves. If they do the discovered attack with Nd5, you simple do Qd8 and nothing happens. Please, let me know if this makes sense and feel free to share any other lines you are having trouble with. Always happy to help 💪
@@NMRobertRamirez Thanks Robert, I'll take the notes and practice. I'm currently low 1200s, my idea is compete with the unrated games vs 1300 players. The last time I entered the 1200 elo, I couldn't stay there, and was quickly back in the 11s after engaging the better competition for a few days. So until I can consistently win against 1300 players I see no point matching wits with 1300 players in competitive matches. I have to get better. Your simplification of this defense has helped me win more.

@@NMRobertRamirez for sure! I played alot of chess when I was young and recently started playing again. Dropped to 800. Now I am back at 1150 because of your advice on the Pirc. I am playing scotch on white side but seeing this I think I will switch to the kings indian attack! Its just so similair.
@@Daanvinchie nice! That was a big jump so you are doing other things right besides the opening. Mainly, work on your tactics at this point.
@@NMRobertRamirez Any tips how I can work on them?

awesome video, thanks! would you ever consider doing this again but with an account that you don't gain elo with so fast? i would love so much to watch you climb in elo over several games using the Pirc, KID, KIA, etc.. and with a longer time control (at least 5 minutes) so you can take time to really explain your thoughts.
thanks for reading!
Hi Robert and everyone.
I started trying the pirc and I was wondering what you would play as black against:
1.e4, d6
2. f4
Didn't know how to proceed right there and played e5 and transposed into kings gambit.
What would you do as black? Nf6 maybe? Or c6?
I'm stumped.
@21:23 why did you not take the e4 pawn with your knight? His knight is pinned to the queen
Oh wait, nevermind, the bishop covers the queen
I was thoroughly entertained!
@@NMRobertRamirez great thanks, Rob. Love the channel keep up the good work!
This opening paired with London as white, allows me to be even with way stronger players after the opening and the early middlegame. Leaves way more time to learn tactics and proper endgame ! Thank you so much for the Pirc series. Its a blessing !

That was a super risky pre-move at @25:06 lol

Great video! Do you have any tips or videos about getting passed anxiety before and during games? I struggle with it.
Thank you, Alvin for your feedback and for your support to the channel. It's greatly appreciated!
When it comes to anxiety, I have had some students who struggled with it and I can tell you this:
- It will get better as you improve and have more control over your games.

00:23:50 Nc7 cut the defender Queen onto Nb6
I'm learning this and a beginner but once I've gotten to move 6 or 7 I feel like I'm just playing defense. Can you explain the method and idea of how to attack and put white on the defensive?
You are amazing. I like your explanations and style, same as me. Thank you!
That's great to hear! Thank you for your kind words by the way. It means a lot 👍
Love the Pirc. But does speed chess lack sound fundamentals?
It is not as good as longer games, but hopefully these games help you see some of the middlegame plans. I would recommend playing longer games for sure, but occasional speed Chess might be beneficial.
Hello. Thanks a lot for all this great lessons. I have a question. Why at 21mn13sec didn't you play Night to E4 attacking the Queen the black squared bishop and the C Night which is pin to the queen?
Hello! The problem is that their c3-knight could capture our knight 👍😎
@@NMRobertRamirez Thanks a lot for your answer. Effectively he can eat our knight and protect his queen at the same time... :/ thanks :)
@@tak3norag3 no problem! And his bishop from g5 is defending queen too 👍

Hola Robert.
Hi, what do you think about King's Indian Attack against Pirc?
I enjoy your videos and find them helpful, but I have mixed results with the pirc. When white castles long, he occupies the open D file after the pawn exchange. Also have problems getting my queen side pieces active. What am I doing wrong?
Hello! We have to get that fixed! Can you share some of those games to get a better idea of what positions you are referring to specifically? Thank you!
@@NMRobertRamirez www.chess.com/a/2i6nP1ZK4KszN
I have this problem and don't know what I keep doing wrong.
@@BamaRider you got it! We will keep in touch 👍
