Every Journey to GM videos are so useful and enjoyable! I was stuck in chess a little bit for a time, but these JtGM videos in the last months pushed me towards higher ratings! Thank You for that!
I have learned this opening a bit mainly just learning the basic moves and focusing on the idea more and I average over 60% with it in about 90 games or so really recommend it
I like this variation on the Philidor a lot. Have played it many times. If you check out Grandmaster games, you will find Azmaiparashvili has played this successfully. For a while, my personal name for it was the "skunk" because White often gets overexcited and attacks in ways (e.g., finds 0-0-0 with check very appealing) that just help Black develop in a queenless middle game (like a dog that has never met a skunk before). I think the variations I had the most trouble with were ones where White plays an early f4, but it has been a while since I've played it. I've been focusing more on the Modern Defense lately. (My rating is roughly around 1800 I think. It's been a long time since playing in a rated tournament.)
@@philfrei1 totally agree! f4 is actually not that dangerous, you can ignore it in most of the cases and if they take - go for Ng4. But yeah, it's important to know a few things there.
@@MIDGETARELOW so many of my videos are exactly about this :) For example these two: ruclips.net/video/IqyBAw41_sk/видео.htmlsi=lx52_CNJZOqoaNsr ruclips.net/video/VPRRgPA-jJM/видео.htmlsi=wqA6LbZCLjh0VAQq
Thanks to Yevhenii I dare to play this line all the time with black and 10 out of 10 they exchange queens. My king ends up behind a solid pawn on c6 isolating the c3- knight 😊
Wow, thank you for this video, I will give the phillidor a try! I hope it helps me get out of 700 elo 😂. Btw, I love these videos that you are making with the chessnut board playing otb and with the online board on the screen. I think the white’s move 7. Ne2 was relativey weak. What is about 7.Nf3 and 8.Ng5? What kind of defense is recommended of not losing a pawn with 7.Nf3 and 8.Ng5? Thank you.
@@journeytograndmaster Finally after several attempts playing 1. … d6; I have got a similar position as in the game above and as I expected the white played 7.Nf3 and after your recommendations eventually I was able to win the game easily. Actually a search on the internet has given a relatively good plan for the black after playing 1. … d6 with other possible white’s moves at ruclips.net/video/lJHAmQX9shs/видео.html
It happens to everyone. You see a good plan and you go for it. I'm just going by the old victim when you see a good move stop and look for a better one easy to say hard to do with the clock ticking
What this video shows is that in the hands of an IM who has prepared lines, even an inferior opening can work. Non-masters who try to play like this will simply get equal or inferior positions.
I don't think that it's an inferior opening. On 2700+ level yeah, probably, but on a normal level where people just play chess without endless opening preparation it works very well (I play it for the last 10 years with great success). The important thing is to understand the ideas well. The engines says it's +0.3 for white on a high depth just as most of other "normal" openings.
@@journeytograndmaster Ok, it is not as bad as I thought in the line where White captures immediately with 4. dxe5. "There is nothing to be afraid of in this endgame" is correct unless your opponent is Karpov at his prime. It is just a normal +0.3 as you say. Isn't the alternative 4. Nc3 a transposition to a normal Nimzovich Variation of the Philidor? That line is better for White it appears.
Great opening, I will try some games with it. The "real" board is great for the opening and mid-game, but becomes a real time problem for the end game.
Hello, could you confirm for me that this is indeed the Fador defense? because I'm French and I'm not sure about my translator and my English is terrible! I looked on the net (fador defense) to study it, I found nothing! Thank you in advance.
Damn, they pressed me into the black lion, I tried to play often, but before the most opponents blocked. Aaaand, hm ... then the other blocked the queens trade cleverly and only 2 of 15 played the first turns of the script. I forgot some turns, lost a pawny, but then I killed one. I will try again the next days. It works against e4, c4, d4, Reti?
Thanks for this opening I'm going to give it a try as recently I've fallen from 587 to 413. I know 587 isn't fantastic but it was my personal best so far. Ideally I'd like to be up at 600 before Christmas. I'll let you know 🎉😅
@@jusuftheeagle6772 why did it happen? I hope you understand that it's almost impossible to do something great from the first try, you need to truly understand the ideas first.
@@PatAment-c4x agree with the first one. As for the second one - I said in the video that it wasn't perfect but if I never spoiled the advantage, it was always winning and I won - in my opinion you cannot call it "really weak". But no problem, that's your opinion. Nobody is perfect.
