Thank You Robert for such excellent instruction. I studied the KID and Pirc from GM Kasimdzhanovs DVD - "A world Champions guide to the Kings Indian Defense" and your training material is as good if not better! I'm an old goat who's been playing since age 5. Now I'm 62 and I used to to play whatever opening came to mind. No opening repertoire! I had a fair game but stayed between 1600-1800 for a few decades! Fortunately I got a chess coach who said "Do you want to remain a jack of all trades, master of none, when it comes to openings?" So for 2 years I played the French and had moderate success. maybe a 50 Elo uptick. I thought I liked wild open games, and would play risky gambits and play unsound sacrifices
often being the victim of the opening I chose! So I wised up and I only play KID, KIA and Pirc. Result? Now I'm +2000 on Lichess. Today I didn't see your lesson before a game with my online chess "frenemy". However, I did what you recommended in this lesson. Maybe I'm psychic!?
So I beat my Chess nemesis who I've played for about 3 years today and he's a hard egg to crack, but
somewhere about move 20 I told him "This is where I become the hammer, and you become the nail! You're gonna bleed wood! He did!

You are one of the best chess teachers I’ve ever studied. Your explanations of the big picture and how you integrate the tactics are so insightful. I can actually follow you, whereas some teachers either move too fast or don’t explain WHY. I never considered the Pirc before. Your honest and humble style translates well in instructing an intermediate player like me. It’s a huge compliment to say that are not the average ‘chess-tech’. Thank you Robert.

Especially now that I've committed to the King's Indian Defense since it seemed natural to my style (never studied theory before this year), and the Pirc is something that I want to continue studying, thanks to NM Robert Ramirez. Thanks mr Ramirez. Pirc is my favoured opening against e4. And now finally, finally I know the answer against B e3 and Qd2. Many times I lost due to the pawn storm on my King site. But now you taught me not to castle at all, and go to the Queensite. And guess what, I immediately crushed a strong opponent when he tried me...!! Thanks for the excellent practical implementations of the Pirc theory. Jurjen Bade, Curacao.

A couple of games when playing against London type openings, I was lost on what to do as it didn’t feel right to loose the King’s Bishop and have the Queen so close to my King. Can’t wait to try this out now. Thanks a lot for the great video series!

What an awesome lesson this is!!
I won my first ever game against the 150 attack today…unbelievable!
I learnt the King’s Indian from RUclips and played it for hundreds of games but every time I came across the opposite side castling I’d just get murdered. And just like you said in the video I started looking at other openings (Stonewall Dutch/Scandinavian) because I was totally demoralised with how many beatings I took against this opening.
Then I watched this video very briefly a couple of nights ago and today, as soon as I seen f3 and bishop to e3 I simply moved my ‘leverage’ pawn c6 followed by b5 and then after that I was winging it because I hadn’t studied the opening properly but I went on to win after forcing my opponent to eventually castle on the king side!
I’m gonna sit and study the full video tonight…thank you so much for posting this…once again, awesome!
This is without doubt the best course on RUclips.

@@NMRobertRamirez I just lost to Sam Shankland in a simul. I was playing the Pirc with the black pieces, and he played the 150 attack. I halted kingside plans (didn't fianchetto bishop or castle) and instead advanced c6 and b5, but he tore me a new one nonetheless! lol Per the computer, we were dead even around move 10, though, so this defense has something going for it. I just made critical mistakes because I'm like 1000 points lower rated! BTW, Robert: (1) people love my 1... d6 shirt, and (2) I emailed you my Pirc plans in an Excel spreadsheet. Now, I'm not a rated chess player, I don't belong to a club, and I've never played in a chess tournament. I'm just a totally committed chess nerd who studies chess constantly. But, about 8 months ago, I played one of my best friends and he beat me badly by playing the Queen's Gambit which I had never seen before. Really have to say that I like that you rewind and go back to the start position multiple times. The repetition is excellent for us noob's learning. Also this is part of what I needed to learn (I made a comment about being attacked on the King side a few days ago) ... next I just have to find what you do vs an e5 push by white, cause I run into that a lot as well.
TY also for all the other lessons on here! Opposition, End-Games, how to Pawn Storm, and how to make and use Outpost Squares have all been extremely useful topics that I've been sorely missing in my game. Please keep up the amazing content... you are a great teacher of this game!

I started playing only Pirc, KID, KIA, Reti. Dont assume we know nothing and get confused. Your material
is some of the best because you explain concepts and general ideas rather than memorizing moves. By exclusively playing the aforementioned systems, the opponent plays my pet opening, I never play his! I have thoroughly studied GM Rustam Kasimzhanovs "A world champions guide to the Kings Indian Defense" Hes rated above 2700. Your
material explains it just as well. I had a chess coach who once said "Do you want to know how to play every opening with mediocrity, or learn to play just a few very well?" Playing these systems exclusively, while studying them for about a year my rating went up approximately 300 points. The Samisch Variation played well by white can be a tough game just because so few players know it really well. I'm working on that.

Im playing this as white site and never knew that this opening had a name. After playing hundred and hundreds of games i came i with this opening setup myself after playing the sämisch variation for literally any game. But this (150 Attack )is better than the sämisch varation because you have one extra tempo , the reason is you didnt play c4 in the beginning like you do for the sämisch.
I won many games in this opening with white. Now im watching how black can refute this opening so i can refute the refutation, thanks for the video :).

Nice video showcasing some good ideas in the pirc. Ultimately I never ended out picking it up because I believe white has a plethora of attacking options and you need to know what you are doing against all of them. The classical, geller system, and Shveshnikov system are for the most part harmless and more of a positional game, the problem more so lies with having to deal with the 150 attack, Chinese variation, Austrian Attack, Bryne Variation, The kholmov system (white CAN win 3 pieces & prevents black from castling for a queen if black in underprepared), Technically the king's indian kramer variation is a possible settup but never used, and the Sveshnikov-Jansa Attack which is an improved variation of the 150 attack that prevents the ideas you presented in this video. ie. 1. e4 d6 2. d4 Nf6 3. Nc3 g6 4. Be3 c6 5. h3 b5 6. e5 b4 7. exf6 bxc3 8. fxe7 Qxe7 9. bxc3 which is notably different since white's dark square bishop is still protected since they have yet to play f3. exf5 also leads to a winning endgame for white. Ultimately because of this black would have to play Bg7 and either waste a tempo or castle into the 150 attack/improved version of the austrian attack if white chooses to go with F4. While it's not impossible to prepare for all variations, and the pirc is certainly a solid opening, it is a pretty tall order for those with a poor memory/limited time.
