Rewatching this video now that I finally broke 1650 after starting your videos around 1250 and it’s like watching a different vid. Subtle things you do at this pace are really enlightening to me now. Thank you so much for putting your chess brain on full display.
@@NMRobertRamirez You're welcome! I know a good teacher when I see one. I'm a teacher myself. What's your favorite book on the Pirc? I'm trying to decide which one to buy...
@@Thisrandomguyonline Good question! In the description of this video, you will find a link that will take you to my book recommendations. There, I listed two books about the Pirc (main line with g6 and Bg7). Now, when I first prepared the Pirc, I did it using a Chess encyclopedia. This is basically pages of lines without any explanation - nothing like a book. Then, by reviewing games of other players and playing it myself, I understood it better. These two books I am recommending were brought to my attention by one of my students who would consult me any time he found a line he wanted to go deeper into. I ended up buying them, but I only reviewed specific chapters to assist him and I can tell the information is well presented and clear. If I had to pick one, I would pick the one by James Vigus. If you get any, let me know what you think.

More videos on the Czech Pirc are coming for sure since there is a lot we have not covered yet. Again, thank you for your feedback and please keep telling me about anything you think I should include or change. I really appreciate it!
Your course is amazing!! I really like how you structure it in a way in which you never assume prior knowledge. You really helped me build a foundation how to think about strategy in chess! I really like how you systematically introduce us to new concepts in small steps! You motivated me to join a club and I will attend my first tournament at the end of may, although I will most likely get utterly destroyed. You really made studying chess fun for me! As I am currently at this point in your course, I will use the Queen's Gambit for White and the Czech Pirc for Black :D
Since subscribing to your channel, I learned so many ideas and I think my understanding of the game is much better today. I love the Czech Pirc and have been trying it lately.
Great Teacher NM Robert !! Please keep up the good work. I think I will start playing this opening. I have been confused with what opening to choose. I think choosing one system to play with both white and black will help me concentrate on the middle game end game and also tactics. Thank You for the video's. Subscribed !!
Thank you for your kind words, Muhammad! And yes, that's my philosophy as well -the most important thing is middle and endgame training. I am sure most of your games are decided in those stages instead of in the opening. Once you get more advanced, you might dedicate more time to opening training. Truth is that after a while you will feel like you need to add another opening to your repertoire, but that's okay. At that point you will have a really good foundation on middle and endgame. Maybe by then you start looking into the regular Pirc (lesson # 69) and the King's Indian Defense (lesson # 85) 👍
Your right. I love this opening for black, I use it all the time unless I'm trying the Traxler I don't like anything else thing else..it works for everything I won 8 in a row just playing with the Czech defense 👌 👍 🙌 I have to try it for white
Amazing video Coach !! Bravo. At 28:14 I thought u will loose. But u won👍 Last game is just amazing. Once again I gotta tell u that it’s amazing how u make games look so easy.
This is great! I like how Coach RobRam is not afraid to admit mistakes in the game but handles it very calmly. These were some good games to give us an idea of how the Czech Pirc is used.
more excellence from Robert! i tried this opening for the first time tonight (white) and played with 75% accuracy. i had mate in 4 but had a mouse slip and lost. felt so much more comfortable knowing why i was playing certain moves. thank you once again!
Thanks Brian! It is certainly easier when you have some guidance throughout the opening and even sometimes the middlegame. The key is to keep playing and studying it until you fully understand it. Whenever you have time, watch lesson # 57. You will learn how to play against one of the most dangerous variations your opponent can choose against the Czech Pirc, but more importantly, you will learn how you can atudy any opening.
@@NMRobertRamirez, after move 11 for white, I see that you responded with cxd5. Would you have done that if white had their knight on c3? The timestamp I'm referring to is about 9:45 - thank you!
Hey Brian! Good question. As a general rule, I try not to break on d5 when their knight is on c3. And of course, whenever that knight is not on c3, doing d5 immediately comes to mind I if the timing is right I would do it. In this specific position you refer to, I would not mind if his knight was there because if he took with his knight on d5 then I take with my knight from f6. If instead he takes his bishop first, even better for me since he is giving up his fianchetto bishop. Does this make any sense?
@@NMRobertRamirez that makes perfect sense thank you! And, if he were to move Nb5 instead, would the best move be Qb6, to threaten and get the queen to safety?
Absolutely. Do not forget that Nb5 is what we call a one-move threat. We can easily attack that knight by doing a6 and he wasted a tempo at the end of the day.
