Could be the fuel

Thanks for the suggestion. The gas tank was empty when in bought it so it's all new fuel. Probably needs a carb cleaning at a minimum though.

Pull shaft and clean and grease.

@@anthonyguenther6008 hindsight, I definitely should have just done that. It does work properly now, but if it gets tight again, I'll definitely take you advice. Thanks for the suggestion.
