An honest seller. You find those once in a blue moon. Good for him, and good for you.
I am still in the video - the carb JUST came out. "It needs a carb cleaning..." seems to be the go-to for any non-running machine. However, my heart sank when I saw the compression test. I am at 24 minutes so my fingers are still crossed 🙂
Besides a carb cleaning and few minor maintenance operations, it needed nothing more. I think the seller was quite honest!
Always Remember to note...every buyer is not mechanically inclined so keep that in mind..also not everyone wants to work on even the littlest things so it doesnt matter how honest you are..people suck & are never satisfied

im no mecanic i try to fix quads i make then looks pretty run the best i can do and sell and still get people complaing a day later cause there friend said X thing, i reply man im no mecanic you tried the quad test drove it looked at it... for me it runs fine. but his mecanic friend said valve clearence and timing chain, i said i have no idea i dont touch that, it runs and drives its a honda engine it ticks... (was a barosa 250, yamaha blaster frame with cmx2520 honda engine)
or other times a chinees bashan 200cc quad same story his mecanic friend looked at it the next day, i forgot what was the problem this time.
so now i add in my advertisment 'im no mecanic not a garage i list all i know and did to it' cause i got tired of people....
@@reggiexp69sell to them then add them to your blocked list so you don’t have to deal with their crap problem solved
People are shady! I always sell stuff running and 100 percent honest bout issues. I never miss a video of yours,I've learned a lot bout ATVs,I'm a car guy, your videos taught me a lot. Interestingly, just bout a $100 98 Honda Odyssey last night. Yes,$100.
Trouble. Is. You. Lose. Faith. In. Human. Nature. Who. Is. Decent and. Whos rotten. Buying. Used. Is. A minefield.

@@mauriceclark4870 no.. problem is, people are lazy & will walk away from something that only needs the littlest things done.. people don't want to work on anything they're always wanting to Just Ride all the time they don't want to or have any intentions of being mechanically inclined
@@kevin2298 yup
My guess is the previous owner left ethanol fuel in it for too long. There are folks that will stand by their ethanol fuel but in my experience it has always went bad like you see in this video when left too long . I suspect that ethanol attracts water which then creates the muck in the tank and carbs. I don’t see that problem with premium non ethanol fuel, my Honda 4 trax had at least 5 year old premium none ethanol fuel in it and continued to start right up and run perfectly every time. I finally drained the tank and put fresh gas in it. The gas I drained looked fine so I divyed it up between my motorcycles that I regularly use….no problems. 😎
his dog did all the negotiating lol
People need to stop being so scared of dogs,I get that some attack and whatnot but that's just bad training or lack of it..they sense your fear and take advantage
That because the dog was better at negotiating than the buyer.
Saying it needed a carb clean was an understatement but that is a good machine. You have done well.
Joe I can't believe how far you've come over the years from working in your parents garage to how well you're doing now. Good for you my man. You work very hard on this channel and it It shows.👍
😢Miss those days, terrorizing the neighbor's yards, his brother Chuck wearing flip flops and poping wheelies in the yard
When you go to buy a rig, you’re going to have to bring Vinny as security. 😂
For once, an honest seller. Truly a carb clean, battery and air filter. Better go buy a lottery ticket. lol
The seller was honest about his dog, pretty sure he's honest about everything...Good work Joe....
If i had a dollar for every time I heard….”it just needs the carburetor cleaned”.. I would be well on my way to being rich. Sometimes thats all that’s needed but more times than not there’s more issues.
THis time, that's all it needed, plus a bit of maintenance, but that's all! That was an honest seller!
It’s always a carb clean. That’s the universal excuse for why something for that is for sale, but is not running.
Win some, lose some. This is definitely a win for you. Thanks for taking the time to make your videos and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
I was dealing with some carb issues this past week and finally figured it out!! Now I can just sit and relax watching joe’s videos 🙌🏻
I enjoy watching your repair videos and I learn lots from watching. I have a 2017 Polaris Sportsman 450 EPS. It has been great and reliable. Changed factory battery from wet cell to AGM sealed. Better option for the EPS and added winch.
One other thing: I think you should wear a 2Vintage tee shirt or hat in your videos. Great content.
All it needs is a carb clean!!! Awesome that means we're in for a full overhaul and rebuild today!! Score
I thought that as soon as I saw the compression reading.
Man that’s about the first time I think I’ve seen you fix one that seem to be an easy repair. Thanks for the post
Simple owners maintenance at required intervals, they'll go for a long time.... years.. but that means we'd be struggling for business. Oh well, glad to see well kept machines. These farmers around here, buy them and run them til they die, then expect us to fix them... great vid!!
Good to see there are still some honest people out there.beautiful machine !!
You should really try using Rotella T4 or T6 oil. I've been using the T4 many years, read the back of the bottle it has JASO MA/MA2 rating. Can beat the price.
Shout out to the seller for setting a good example!! It is refreshing indeed!!! Nice machine!!
I'd call this video DOG FACE, I being a Dog Lover would have loved to see the dog as to how a owner is a pow "piece of work" not having control of his dog when people arrive for what ever purpose, paint a dogs face on the front of the quad and call it Rover. lol. Enjoyed this video.
Hey, now! That dog knocked $200 off the original asking price. 😛
I need to find one for parts for my 01 Rubicon. Wow, the tool kit was actually with it. Those Hondamatic units will last forever as long as the oil is serviced regularly and has never been run dry or anything. Also, when replacing the angle sensor, using the cheapo Chinese ones can cause swashplate issues when they fail. That's the sensor that it's most important to replace with a high-quality sensor like oem, Sensortech, CW, and Wrench Rabbit. I'm currently in the process of basically re-building my Rubicon with 6500 mi on the odometer. Right now, i've got the rear end apart, cleaning the housing, replacing the bearings and seals, and getting ready for the new ring gear/axle shaft. Great video to wake up to this morning.
I think you got a bargain there Joe. Well done young Man .🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
When you opened up that air filter i thought it had been submerged in a pond and was totalled.
Turns out the seller was a true gent and i think that quad is my favourite 2vintage machine.
It looks good and sounds great.
A perfect tool for cutting trails.
Finally bought a machine that pretty much was just what the seller told you for a decent ATV. About time someone is on the up and up when selling a bike to you.😊
Best part of today's video, you put the Honda to work!! Honda running excellent. 👍
Looks as though someone tried to sabotage this ride! Or gas mixed with water , but sludge like this is many years of neglect.
Brother you are the greatest mechanic on the tube. Thanks!
I put Bounce dryer sheets around my engine air filter and wiring in the shed, it seems to work with the rodents
Look forward to your vids Joe! Honest guy fixing up things from the past. Doesn't get much better. How's the Cub Cadet side by side with cab coming along?
Great show. One of my favorites on Utube. If you want to keep mice out of your little shelter get a chlorine tablet for a swimming pool and lay it inside someplace that is not touching anything. Put one in my patio storage box and haven't had any mice or bugs in years.
Good tip. I've found that soaking the foam air filter surround in peppermint oil will also keep mice (along with chipmunks and pack rats!) from nesting in an ATV's air box.
Oil was put in before it was crated and left factory. Had one similar come in for service, was running horrible, asked gim if hes ever changed the oil, he looked at me like it was new. Why it was fine. The 1uad was trashed, drained it and big chunks of gunk plopped out. Filter was original, it was packed about solid.great job Joe!!!
What a score Joe. I was watching this in my SUV and it sounded great.
2V, with a bit of luck and a lot of TLC you pulled another rabbit out of the hat! The Honda turned out to be a good investment! Congrats!
Man never let your differentials get low The oil breaks down so much faster and it doesn't take long for there to start being some issues. It literally cost you a few dollars 1 qt can do like 3 or 4 differentials fluid changes.
Nice score, Joe. Little maintenance & you have yourself a really nice utility quad. Those Hondas are bullet proof. Something therapeutic about mowing grass. I mow our 5 acre property with a zero turn
Definitely needed that carb cleaned!! Haven’t seen one that bad in awhile!
Nice to get a good honest one now and again.
Very cool. And that lawn attachment is cool to
Outstanding job and appreciate the filming for us....be safe
You got this, Joe.
Another interesting gamble. Thanks!
I picked up a trx500fa2(same thing as yours) recently as well. Paid $600 for it. A carb clean, freed up the rear brakes. Runs quite well. Just doing maintenance like adjusting the valves, oil changes etc. Mine as well had water siting in the air box. Makes you wonder how it got into it just sitting.
Humidity, condensation.
Sweet honesty for once 😊
Wow! In the area I live in there are never any deals like you run into. Everyone around my area thinks everything they have is pure gold.
I own a 2009 Rubicon since it was new. I find 10W-40 a little thick for the pump makes the bike A little sluggish I find 10:30 works better little easier on the pump great videos as always
looks like you need to sharpen those blades on the lawn cutter. Still a great vid
The E.P.A. should have to clean a few hundred carburetors so they can see what a disaster they have created. Nice you found an honest seller for once.
That’s not water 😮 lol, love the videos Joe! Keep them coming 👍🏻
I'm happy for u that you found a good deal and an honest seller. I would have trouble buying something that wouldn't start up. I think you should really play hardball with anyone that is selling something they cannot crank up right there in front of u. You are the one that is taking ALL the risk and you gotta make sellers understand that. Your offers have to reflect the risk you are taking with the purchase.
Great find, good looking, and nice size quad. Now let's tear it apart. Lots of learning/teaching moments. Beautiful day for a ride in the Dairy State, although any day out of the office
No mice or ants were displaced in the production of this video. We were able to relocate all involved 🚽
I have a 1st gen oem rubicon carburetor i cleaned and never used. I eneded up having a faulty $20 iridium sparkplug. If you need it your welcome to it. Viola TN.
Happy Days Joe Has Posted 🔥🔥🔥
Awesome score and great job, will serve you well.
Great job, I can say you are now a rubicon expert 😂 it would cool to make a video with all the bikes you have restored and which ones are for sale.
Joe. Can you please start using Jade's toothbrush to clean things? Thanks.
P.S. We LOVE Vinny
The problem with quads at least where I live in Ohio is they are always owned by Hillbillies who never perform any maintenance on them period. As long as it starts and moves under it's own power they think nothing is wrong with it and just ride them till they will no longer do anything. I would never touch one of these.
Hey Joe, I've watched a bunch of your videos and learned a ton, thank you. Is this your full time gig or a side hobby? Thanks again.
Your on the road all the time u ever take jade or at least Vinny with u? My pup never misses a car ride
I think Jade is gone. The last video's her car was't home. Evenso her mom's car. I asked him but he refused to answer.
So it shows married and his pic is still him and jade i think there fine ? Joes an awesome guy so she better stick by his side
I am really happy for you. And really jealous! What a nice machine!
Ive got some just (CARB CLEAN) Projects, still Projects 😵💫.
Thanks for the videos
Hey great video !!! put that there float in a vacuum sealer and the leak will appear , just use your skill to operate the sealer to what is needed . Thanks !!!
You can buy oil by the gallon which is usually much cheaper then buying quarts.
Excellent. Thank you.
Original air cleaner, wow! Should never have owned that machine, may be a pule, but it's a Honda so there is a little hope.
Is it that hard to look after stuff ?
It's a keeper. Nice job mate.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
My brother has one of these and he's had for close to 20 plus years and he's done a bunch a stuff with it towing things, plowing snow pulling stuff and knock on wood it's still runs great. His is I think maybe the light army green. But he takes really good care of anything he has whether it's his vehicles or outdoor power equipment he's got equipment that's close to 30 years old and they still run.
Excellent great buy 🎉
Looks like you could use an ultrasonic cleaner. Love your show.
Could you do a garden update? Really wondered how it’s going
Definitely like the Rubicon's I have one myself
Well it's a Honda right, some good cleaning and runs perfect. I don't like those type of carbs lol. Great find again. Big Up!
Brilliant channel as always
Another great video. Good find
fantastic as always sir
Great video. Thanks
man that worked out great-good job
Nice find..
Beautiful property you have there!
Awesome videos. You are great bro. Thanks.
you must of got a good one--- i had one but newer it was a money pit ---- they dont make hondas like they used to -- great find and grat video
Glad this one payed off Joe, can’t trust anyone these days 🙄👍🏼
Hey joe something you should invest into is a set of jet brushes. It’s a kit that has about 10 different brushes to clean out passage ways in the carb and obviously jets. I have three kits one that’s brass and one that a rigid nylon type material and one that’s very soft. I’ve saved a few carbs using these kits over the years.
I liked that Suzuki atv liked to find one more you had there I love those yz490 or cr500 85
That's a pretty clean cut for a rough cut mower
I need the plans for that mower shelter, that's a pretty neat shelter.
Joe I just had the same problem with my 400at rancher. Petcock was full of rust. The fuel gauge was sticky and rusty from water in the tank. I soaked it in vinegar overnight and sanded down the steel. Now the float goes up and down freely
If you are talented and resourceful, you can be lucky with a degree of frequency. Good video!
With all those clogged carburetors you could considder to buy a ultrasonic cleaner. They work fantastic, are not expensif and worth every penny. Greetings from The Netherlands
I really enjoyed this video of yours 👍💪
It’s not amazing that it fired right up. It’s a Honda!!!!!!!! Best machines on the market.
Love the videos. I think you should take a jump pack with you when you check out these used bikes.
When you're out doing your farming stuff, take a battery leaf blower with you, it's great for clearing things like the mouse nest, general clean up, blowing out air filters etc.
Turn the botle upside down when you're pouring oil in. It's easier that way.
Yes, you are right about that, the oil bottles are designed to pour the oil with the bottle the other way ... pours out in a steady stream because air can get in, instead of bubbling out.
Congratulations, finally finding someone who didn't try to rip you off. That problem has become nationwide. The lack of morals in this country seems to get worse and worse. This isn't the place for a Bible study but we can defiantly see what's going on. Hopefully, you can get more good deals that can be resold fast to upgrade your workshop tools, such as a parts washer and a blaster cabinet. Invest money to make more money. Hang in there and keep up the good work.
Well done
With ez-outs I use the clutch on my drill to give some “impact” affect. Also doesn’t allow the ez-out to just rip out.
You're having way toooo much Fun 😊😊😊
Tight quarters removing the carb. I know that feeling, took my quad carbs. On my street bike were the same big pain
Good Deal on that one. But as I commented on a previous Video...A Yellow Honda just ain't Right!
I love them 4x4 quads you can tow a little trailer easily
There is still honest people in this world , I try to be upfront and honest with anything I sell. Cause I hate getting screwed
You should maybe do some outboard motor vids.
Love your channel, from a country boy farmer/fisherman on the East coast of Florida.
