I just love your approach to your channel. I’m guessing you made it your full time job, and because of that, you’re able to pump out a lot of content. The old saying that if you love your job, you don’t work a day in your life, is certainly true with you.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. This has to be his full-time job based on the amount of content he pushes out. Not only does he have to edit but he has research common issues with the vehicle, find parts, and the amount of times he spends actually working on what he buys - there is no way he can handle a full-time job. Good for him though, he has a great minimal stressful job with no boss.
I enjoy watching your thorough step by step troubleshooting procedure. I have learned a lot watching your channel, enjoyed every episode I have watched so far.
He has been making these videos for years started making money just flipping quads and dirt bikes, this is more then a job now he is teaching us troubleshooting and how to fix our own machines most importantly he has taught me over the years the attitude to have about it these are just machines and they can be fixed if something breaks
I’m surprised you jumped right into another UTV after the last “experience” 😂
I would suggest that overheating would have scoured your cylinder & bore first before damaging the con rod bearing - which is lubricated (and cooled) by the oil. So it may indicate that it either ran with low oil or the pump failed or an OEM part failure from abuse. The valve seats may need work if there was blow by due to insufficient clearance / sealing. Enjoy these investigative videos on such a variety of vehicles - very informative. Thanks man.
PS: hope you've got covers on your boats.
Agree, nothing points to cooling system error. Cylinder and head are first that go when overheated, oil still lubricates to a degree even if its cooking in there but sure, it doesnt hurt to check I guess. Hard to say what happened here because the top end and gasket look good, I'll just guess they ran it out of oil and rod bearing took the hit before anything else. Though, how was it even running with those valves in the first place? Means they drove it with a loud bearing until it didnt fire up anymore due low compression🤡
Maybe good pet owners..
I just found your channel about 2 weeks ago, and have watched about 8 of our videos. I worked on motorcycles for years, but I have learned so much from watching your different videos. Great work and thanks!
When checking a thermostat you place it in the water then turn on the heat and the moment it starts to open look at the water temp with either a thermometer or heat gun. That way you will know the exact temp it opens, usually 180-195 . If it only opens at boiling temp it's game over.
The seats are so bad because I and other farmers are in and out of them at a much higher rate than recreational drivers. Also we most always have something in our back pockets that tear up the seats, 13k on a farmers utv will have many more hours on the engine to get to 13k than a recreational rider. Ours sit idling much more as we go about our work . Keep up the vids, I enjoy watching.😊
Always a good day when 2vintage uploads.
Valves and check the fuel PSI. There is a rubber spacer under the fuel pump and when it deteriorates the pump gets loose in the pump housing and causes some fuel spray out before making it to the outlet hose.
My OCD is kicking in. First thing I'd have to do is hose off the filth before bringing it in to that nice clean garage. It's just a "Me" thing. Lol.
Not at all, worked at a Porsche dealership, techs were okay but the master mechanic would demand a clean engine (power washed).
Think former watch/clock repairman, more an engineer than a mechanic, every part, every nut, and bolt scrubbed and put in an ultrasonic cleaner.
@@thebigguy8306a nice clean power washed engine is nice to work on but if it is the first thing done to it then you wash away all the oil leaks and any other track evidence.
The seller always says it won't run.
And Joe always fixes it.
With Vinnie's help 👍
Brilliant channel, always enjoy your videos 👍🏻🇬🇧
make up a simple jig using a 12v stop light bulb.. wire the bulb with the circuit breaker inline on either lead... you can add more and more bulbs to increase load to the circuit breaker...cheap and dirty , but it works.
Good thing you got to it before it let go and destroyed everything! Not a moment too soon. I'm guessing you'll fix and keep this Polaris and sell the off brand ute?
Your thermostat should start to open at the rated temp. You are only checking if it opens at 212 which is too hot for your motor. Use a digital thermometer and see if it opens at rated temperature of thermostat.
we like that method, just dont use the same thermostat on the bbq later.
Always love watching you go through these machines. I am particularly interested any time you tear into a Polaris Ranger as I have a 2002 6WD with a transmission that grinds shifting to high range. After watching several other videos, I have a general idea of what is wrong but I'm still to chicken to remove it and and take it apart. The more I watch you, the more my confidence is building!
Whats the worse thing that can happen? Its already broke. Just take lots of pictures as you take it apart.
Yes, picture is worth a thousand words 😅
polaris 570 are common to have the rod bearing fail. i love rebuilding these machines because they are so easy.
Another great video.
I'm finally starting to learn a little bit at 53yo thanks to Joe.
I'm actually understanding the tear downs and when you wobbled that piston i was like "Oh. Rod bearing has gone"
I tell you. Before i found 2vintage i didnt even know what a rod bearing was.
Thanks Joe. You are a great teacher.
I knew nothing before I started watching Joe. Now I know the trinity. Air, spark, gas. It seems that is half of the problems he covers. Then things start being really broken.
Joe, check all of the valves and cylinder head parts carefully. Mostly valves, seats and springs and head warpage. Having bucket shim valves going tight after the engine was running is not a logical failure mode. Wider maybe. But tighter? This indicates a possible valve geometry issue.
If someone installed the wrong buckets during some sort of mindless troubleshooting of course. But that’s not logical either. Not with all of the other issues this engine appears to have.
Nice Challenge. Get it fix and sold ! Thanks. Also love seeing you help subs like the crf250
I love that the lights are always a focus on your channel. I’m not even kidding. Sets you apart. 😂
Maybe that engine is playing that song by Tony Orlando and Dawn.......you heard of it long ago....."Knock Three Times"....but in this case.....Its more like......."I Hear Your Knockin"
Oh yeah, Dave Edmunds.
Perfect timing .....wifey wanted to cuddle.. now I've got 53min to stay on the toilet. 😂😂
Hi, second time you test a thermostat wrong ,you need to heat the water to the thermostat spec ,normally around 70-75 C not boiling ,if the thermostat opens on 100c then the engine is allready overheated .
Oh and sorryfor my bad english i am on my phone no spelling checker 😁
Surprised you’re taking on another SxS after that last one but very hype to see this content. Came for dirt bikes stayed for everything else
Love the troubleshooting process. It looks like the former owners of that machine didn't go very far out of their way to do much in maintaining it. Engine replaced; new engine with a bad rod bearing...abused, used outside of its parameters, low coolant (?), strained the engine?
There is dust everywhere. I have a 2017 that gets washed quite frequently. I would have washed this one before I worked on it.
There is a temperature sensor measuring liquid temp in radiator. I found it failed on my Polaris 400. Switch must be made for electricity to flow to fan. This is in addition to the thermostat.
the fan breaker can be tested quickly by hooking positive voltage to the 12volt input and then using your volt meter to see if there is 12 volts on the output side. If there is voltage then short the output side to ground and it should cut off then voltage leave your volt meter connected to se then un-short the output side and voltage should return. Yes it's that simple! a breaker is just a re-settable fuse.
That's a really dumb way to test a resettable breaker because they trip by Heat and the heat won't dissipate fast enough to reset immediately.
Great video and I'm sure you're going to find an oil pump problem. One thing that annoys me is the amount of gas you're wasting when checking the thermostat. If you can see the flames around the saucepan like that you need to turn it down so the flames are on the bottom of the pan. I learnt this in a professional kitchen. It all adds to your profit on the job.
Looks like it’s sat outside for a long time. Those seats look like they’re all ripped up from getting stiff and brittle from sun damage.
It is obvious the previous owner did not take any kind of care of this utv. It confuses me how people will pay outrageous money for something and then treat it without any respect.
One of the best channels on the tube !! Nice work 💪 cant wait to see the fat wheeler 😂
You should put a motorcycle engine in it . Then it would be a fast 4x4. Smoke all 4 tires if you wanted to. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about it blowing up anymore. Great channel, keep up the great work and God Bless you and your family. 😊👍🙏🏼
How is there any used quads, bikes or utv's left in Wisconsin with Joe around? lol
Some great tips in this one. I have learned from this, Usually do, but not this much. Thanks :)
Joe why haven’t you cobbled a $100 winch onto that trailer yet?
Because he spent all his money on an asphalt driveway.
Just weld up the bracket and borrow a winch from one of the rigs
@@marshallpolzin9086doesn't need one.
🎶knock, knock, knockin’ on heavens door…😉
Can you show us how you keep all of the parts stored so you know where they belong when you put them back together?
You can see them under his benches usually from various projects. Usually a box or two holding loose bits.
I bought one of these was in pieces with nothing labeled. Wasn’t hard to rebuild with the factory manual
🙋I've done that, taken engine apart, where I put this/than, having to go buy parts I could not find, worst putting back together and having extra parts
@1g❤❤❤❤❤eniusl
Ho Lee Chit love these projects.😊😊
Nice driveway .
Makes things easier 🙂
Great project, good review - assessment, A B & C. A - get it running, B - operational (tires, brakes, shocks), C - seats, cosmetics. Keep up the hard work
Nice find, good project, Your warehouse must cover football fields.
Hey,
I am having the same issue with my utv 2013 cfmoto 600 snyper not starting. I adjusted the valves to spec and tried starting it again. No go. It keeps blowing the air intake hose off the throttle body and air is blowing out of the air intake tube. Any thoughts??
If you tear down the engine more then youl kno what’s wrong with it lol you don’t need to here it run to see what’s bad . Just tear her down an make sure evrything is in spec . But I deff love the vids
Sounded like Vini was in the back chopping onions or something lol
Just like they said below this seems like a lubrication problem not a coolant problem. Another great video!!!
I would also add the factory setting of valve shims should be correct and there would be a reason they were not correct anymore.
I’m thinking it never had the oil change or even checked ✅
Why not read the codes first and see what comes up?
Love the videos but can you do another snowmobile video
I keep waiting for Jade to walk in while you're testing thermostats......"WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY KITCHEN!?!?!!?!?!" :-0)
It seems to me that the previous owners may have had it in for service with that high of mileage. Dealer may have done a rebuild but did not put assembly lube on the crank shaft or rod bearings. Customer gets it back after the service and it runs fine for a little bit then no longer starts. At least that is what the perfect cylinder and head with working water pump say to me.
Very good problem solving skills there bro w shaving that down u saved time and money and gave many ideas 💡💡 thanks.
You can test that circuit breaker it's just like a fuse that resets itself
When you first put jumper on it and turned the key on it had check engine light on leads me to believe it had on board diag. You can probably retrieve the codes from it and it may point you in the right direction as to why it either over heated or was starved for oil
Starting fluid brother, it’s very old fuel, probably dirty and clogged carburetor.
Bottom end bearing knocking, let’s just rev it to make sure, love your channel mate.
great video like always
Those buckets were a terrible, useless design..why not just an adjuster on the stupid rocker arm ..that would make things too simple and easy to work on... I'm not a big fan of that engine Polaris has..
7-8 a year ago. They’re more around 6500 or so nowadays.
Hopefully they case ain’t trash like the 800’s
Tight lashing of the valves hold the valves hold them open don't they ?
But you said " see if we could get them to open " ?
Too loose would give compression and being held open will give little or no compression !
Excited to see this restored
Hi joe liked the add on at the back of the atv 😂😂 just can’t help yourself mate lol yeah it’s a bit beat up but nothing you can’t fix buddy should be some good content coming on the rebuild ,look forward to it take care and all the best 👍👌🔧🔧🔧❤️🐾🦴🦴🐾
Polaris YUK! When they run they can be really good fun. The bottom end on them likes to let go. I have a 900 xp EFI that has been rebuilt Twice and it only has 368 miles on the Odometer. 1st time it spit out the bearings in the bottom end and the 2nd time it dropped 3 valve guides and bent 2 valves. The 570 is basically a RZR 900/1000 with 1/2 the cylinders. The oil pump isn't the problem. They have a chain driven high pressure oil pump with Boost pump in them that very very rarely fails. They are a just a poorly designed engine that tends to suffer from Oil starvation issues due to a poorly designed Crank and block. The Oil galleys in the Stock cranks and block are a bit to small and restricted. Stay away from the OEM Polaris and the Rev6 "kits". HotRods makes a really good bottom end kit for those.
Great video, 1, can you show a video of cutting/drilling those head bolts out? 2, pretty cool of your wife to let you use that nice pot to boil a thermostat 😂
The lower part of the seats get the blunt of the sun when they let a unit set outside that's why they shrink up and tear. You can get new covers but OEM can be expensive.
Joe the engine probably blew up cause it has 11k. It was probably not replaced as the seller told you
salut a toi, encore une super vidéo merci ,et vive la suite
Good video but every time you call the cvt a clutch hurts me😅 its a cvt (continously variable transmission)
Great video! I love how he is rocking the 180 piece Cresant tool set from video 1! Keeping it real!
I like it when you give the back story on the project.
Really nice video. I enjoyed every second. Thank you very much, sir!
Sounds like it might have something to do with the fuel system
Timing and fuel, that many miles may be valves out of adjustment, doubt they ever had it serviced. See it all the time out here. Guys drive them into the ground here..
No need to fire it up man. Could hear the knocking cranking it over. Should have saved alot of time and just tore this one down. Guess its understandable when alot of the focus is on content though.
Looks like goats have been on seat , seen it several times 😊
waaaaaaaait! where is part 2, so I can see it running?
That is a good score. I think those engines have oil issues. Not sure about that model, but look into something call the "bearing" mod for the oil system. Also, those oil pickups can look clean, but if you use brake cleaner and back flush them, LOTS of crap can come out of them. If you don't do that, you will be in the same place soon.
Just a little Rod Slap Up and Down!! Haven't seen this old school thermast test since I was kid watching my Step Dad and Uncle working on a 305 Chevy engine!! 😂😂❤️
Where did you het that trailer? Im looking into buying one to haul stuff around on and thats perfect!
Just a suggestion..even if the thermostat tests “okay”, if that engine was overheated, just replace the thermostat to be safe.
By the way the battery cables corrode a LOT
Good Job! You kept it interesting!
I like the fact that you check the thermostat but, at what temperature is it opening? Should it open at 120° and you’re putting it in water that’s at 250°? Would it be better to lay the thermostat in cold, then start to heat water and check the temperature of the water when it starts to open?
Hi it is me again I just wanna thank u for making these videos I really love your content
Booo it’s terrible
Sounds really rough
rode HARD and put away WET...
11,000 miles? damn, sound like highway miles..
money spent on that POORLY MANTAINED machine... fuel that is over 6 months oldx, is NOT good for anything...
Sadly, I wouldn't pay over $200 for that of JUNK!!!!!
👍Very good Intro and good Vid !!
I may have missed it on o e of your videos, but how in the dickens do you get an ATV on a trailer if it doesn’t run??? Great shot of getting it off the trailer though, because I was curious. ,And the same with getting a non running motorcycle into the back of your truck and getting it out???
I thought I heard a horse. Maybe it's just my imagination
Nice work BTW
Or someone hit it?
Hi, Michael from Nelspruit in South Africa. Just out of curiosity and excuse my ignorance, but why don't you clean the engines or the engine bays or surrounding areas as on the quads and ATV's, before working on themm Surely all the dirt, gravel and grime cannot be good for an open engine?. Sand acts as a rubbing compound.
$2700 for a nonrunning side by side, BS, that thing is ragged out and worth maybe $300!
If you're paying that much YOU are part of the problem!!
Looks like the seller, drove the crap out of his parents UTV.
He said it knocks and it knocks. Looks like it was used up on a farm.
Oh, I must have missed that part. @@mph5896
You will get this thing to run, Joe! Looking forward to the next episode. Thanks man!
Such amazing talent
You should check for mice before you start trying to start the engine not after 5 minutes of cranking
The last Ranger we did was one of those 570's. The rod bearings were shot on it, had valve seat coming loose, one adjuster was stripped clear out. Had 4200 mls on it, had nevrr taken it in toit serviced, it crapped out and didnt want to take it in cause way expensive, so he brought to me. My assistant knew the huy and said he had no business owning motorized anything. Took bout a week ti fix t hen found out it had a bent rear wheel and hub.
When you put the new crank in make shure the plug (oil jet) is in the flywheel end of the crank... i recently rebuilt my 570... twice 😢
Any time I hear that a dealership's service department has supposedly done some work on a vehicle I am suspicious. Why would it be such a reach that this vehicle had a lousy, sub-par rebuild and given back to the owner and told it had a new engine? Wouldn't that explain the fact that this vehicle supposedly blew another engine soon after the dealership had its hands on it? With that said, do these UTVs have VIN numbers on the engines that could be checked and verified as original or not? It would be interesting to know how much the previous owner was charged by the dealership to install a "new" engine.
Heavens sakes. Suorised how many folks talk about washing the machine down before working on it..... life is too short.
Great video, but once again too many ads every few seconds. Gets to be annoying
I bought a small bore gauge tool thats for gunsmithing to do this job. Take buckets out, reinstall cams, take base lobe measurements and record them. Subtract the lash and I can order the buckets without having to buy the dealer kit for 30x the cost.
