I worked at a polaris dealership back in the 1990's with my best friend. We didn't have many of the 6X6's come in but when they did they were beat to hell. Started at that place as yard boys just moving display machines up to the front lot at open and moving them back at close. Doing prep work on new units going out (Install battery, wash, check tires etc) until one day the mechanic we had quit and the owner walked in the back and saw the back log of work. Pointed to the manuals and told us to start working on them. Only had the job for about a summer but it was a blast. We had access to 4 Wheelers to ride and access to the demo water craft out at the lake. We learned a lot that summer.
I picked up a non-running 2001 Polaris 6x6 kind of on a whim a few years ago. I mostly just thought it was cool but it has been an absolute workhorse. I use it for just about everything around the yard, I don't want to imagine life without it now
Great video. Only thing missing on this channel is cleaning/painting to get them in sellable shape. Nothing overboard, just a nice clean and touch up. The before and after would be so satisfying.
That's what I don't understand about him. He's Good and tracing firing/fuel problems. But wont sand blast nothing or repaint nothing. I've done amazing things with$40 worth sand paper and paint. Maybe he's not a paint and etc guy. But most people are that know anything about motorcycles so 🤷
@MarkAlan-no7mb he might not sand blast stuff butt I've seen 4 of his kids. IN 2 of them he took a drill wire brush cleaned stuff off and REPAINTED WITH HIGH GLOSS THAT HAD A PRIMER MIX ALREADY ADDED...So in my opinion that has him at a 50% rate of painting on his shows..
Would love to see all the remaining repairs carried out! Looks like it would be a pretty handy contraption for collecting all the produce that you're growing or for carting a few deer on the property!
I honestly thought it would be a hell of a rough ride across the field but it seems to float pretty nicely. The master was laying right next to where you looked at the chain the first time.
I love how Joe just gets on these old rust buckets and gives them hell! LOL. You gotta see what these things can do. Love the channel brother. Keep on wrenchin'.
Wicked deal! Probably took a bit for the valve sealing surface to clean up then that fixed your back fire. As for the shifting there are some detent pins that get rusted stuck in there, clean those up and you should have low range.
We can see why it was free and to be honest the seller probably would have paid you to take it away! But it's also great to see that somebody got their money's worth out of that old Polaris, somebody spent big bucks on this thing brand new nothing with the Polaris name on it was cheap! Backfiring through the carb is also a sign of a vaccum leak. You need to expand the shop....sandblaster, vapor blaster and a powder coat oven. Deal done.
You are good fixer of atv..I want to be handy of mechanical like you to fix anything that still good but not very running like you did fixed this 6x6 Polaris ATV. I bought a 1996 4x4 Polaris magnum atv from a guy last year. Sometime it has hard time to start and run. I sometime troubleshoot but not very handy fixing it. I am proud of you.
For future reference a bent valve will not cause tight lash. Usually it's a worn seat or valve face that does that as the valve is allowed to travel up more. Another thing is from ppl touching stuff they know nothing about. Probably tightened the lash too much wouldn't run anymore then came to the conclusion the engine went bad. Popping thru the carb is not lean. More than likely the valve that was tight had crap on the face and everything cleared out and it seated again.
Got another big bore 660 to 686 to do today. Guss I better get my guys going... great vid Joe. I got a younger guy helping out, his thing is always " what would Joe do"? Brian my assistant always says clean the carb.. lol.
Usually, if you have a bent valve you will see a very loose rocker, you were also wondering why the spark plug was so wet with no compression you’re going to have a wet spark plug does matter how much spark you have those notorious for dumping raw fuel into the intake as well.
@@jerrywilcox9890 If your referring to the "no compression wet plug" statement how so? You need fuel, spark, AND compression. With the basically zero compression due to the valve not sealing you would have a wet plug given fuel, spark, and NO compression.
