I picked up the 24mm for $175 from best buy and it lives on my camera. Perfect lens IMO, focus is fast and accurate and extremely sharp not to mention incredible close focus.
Thanks for this! I bought it after your review. I have version 3. The autofocus is definitely slow and loud but I like the look. I want basically a walk-around macro like the fuji 30mm macro but on full frame. I'd love to learn to manual focus.
I just bought a good used copy of the Tamron 24 f2.8 and immediately checked the firmware version. Sure enough, it needed updating to Ver. 3. If you use these Tamron primes with an APS-C sensor camera, that macro capability is even better as the ratio becomes 1:1. I bought my lens to have a lightweight, rugged . fairly small lens for travel.
Thanks. Going to order it knowing that firmware improves focusing.

Awesome. I hadn't even thought of the extra macro using APS-C but that makes this lens even more alluring for some, especially at the price.
Would have been good to have seen a shot at 2.8 showing the corner sharpness. Thanks for the review
thanks for sharing your thoughts. its my no1 problem, AF. :-( i want to buy this lens for making short movies. is that so bad in low light ?
