      As you said in the video: With the zoom lenses existing, there is no real reason to buy the primes. If you have a 2000 or even 3500 dollar camera, it makes no sense to buy lenses because they are cheap.

    Am just starting out with a A7C. Just recently the 35mm came down to 199.99, and picked one up. I shot mostly antique furniture for online sale, and needed something that would let me work in my dark tight studio. I was looking for a 35mm with a lower f then my kit lens' f4 which is practically f5 when at 35mm. I was looking at getting something with a 1.8 or 2, but the macro and the current price sold me on this one. With the macro, this saves me time swiping lenses when I need to get something close up like a scratch or a label. It has actually worked out really well so far, and at 199.99 may be a sleeper of a deal. With what I saved on this compared to some of the other 35mm available, I was able to also get a Sony 50mm 1.8 used which I have also been looking at.

  • @pixomar
    @pixomar 3 года назад +1

    um.. great video man! Thanks for this.. a question.. would you deem the 35mm for hybrid photo/video use?
    cuz I am stepping more and more in the video production (shooting too) but at the moment I don't want to invest in something specific for video.. I mean, ideally, I should split set lenses for video and one set of lenses for photo.. but this's going to triple the investment.. and at the moment it's not the right one..
    so, I'd like to know your opinion about using this 35mm (not so fast (2.8)) for video shooting either.
    Thanks and Happy new year!

    Very helpful review Dan, thanks. As a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 owner, I was thinking of buying the 35mm F2.8 for gimbal use (a few hundred grams lighter) but the poor autofocus and noisy-focusing are deal breakers. When Tamron released their 28-75mm f/2.8 the AF had issues too but they did a firmware update (about 6 months after release) that improved the AF a great deal. I don't believe it was ever noisy though. So a firmware update can fix the AF speed and accuracy but if the motor is noisy, that would still be a deal breaker for me as a filmmaker. I would buy the Sony Sonnar 35mm f/2.8 (the 35mm f/1.8 lens is great too but the 35mm f/2.8 lens is lighter) but the $800 USD price tag keeps me away. I wish Sony native lens were more reasonably priced.

    Fantastic and honest review Dan! I have the Tamron 28-75 and am about receive the 17-28. It was very interesting to hear that the zoom outperforms or equals the primes. I personally am not interested in Tamron's f2.8 primes as I have Sony's 24 GM and the Sony /Zeiss 35 f2.8 but I hear that Tamron's special 35mm anniversary lens is spectacular - they should do an E mount version of that.

    The bokeh of the Sony 35 1.8 is just a bit too harsh to be happy with,... so I guess I have to save for & carry the Sigma 35 1.4.

    Dan sorry but unrelated question. When you shoot timelpase with Nikon Z connected to edelkrone slider system, does it gives you the timelapse movie automatically in camera like when you use Just the timelpase feature on the Z6? Or does it gives you the images only and you have to post process it??

I already have the Sigma trio and the 19 2.8 which would be the closest at the moment. Also on the 24 there is no OSS. I like what the Tamron 35mm f/2.8 puts into one package for $300. Yes, there are faster aperture primes at similar prices, but they lack the 1:2 macro capability. Yes, there are 1:1 macro primes that are a similar size, but they're either a stop slower and APS-C only (Sony 30mm f/3.5 macro for $300) or twice the price of the Tamron (Sony 50mm f/2.8 macro FE for $550). The Tamron 35 would be great as a single travel lens for getting both landscapes and detailed, close up shots of spring flowers or fall leaves. It would let a student or new photographer play with macro in a standard focal length lens that still has a fast enough aperture to try out lower light and shallow DOF photos. Pros and enthusiasts who have the budget for a variety of specialized lenses (and the willingness to lug them around) aren't the market for these Tamron primes.

    • @0ooTheMAXXoo0
      @0ooTheMAXXoo0 3 года назад +1

      I have used that 30mm macro for over 5 years. I do get closer than 1:2, rarely, because that means the subject is right up close to the lens. Very hard to not throw a giant shadow into the frame, scare off tiny subjects, etc. The 35mm Tamron just has such great image quality and fast enough focus and enough magnification to fit 99% of my needs. I am so tempted, and probably will switch at some point. Seriously, look at reviews and image samples of the Tamron 35mm F2.8. It might be the best images out of any 35mm E mount lens... Or too close to call...

    I like what Tamron are doing for the Sony E-Mount with these new lenses offering high and affordable performance gear in compact packages but of course they will not please everyone. I'm not yet in a position to evaluate performance personally as I've not got any copies that have just become available (online) this past week where I live. What I've seen online has been impressive. I'm guessing there are better performing lenses out there but they probably cost the earth and weigh a ton but if that's what you need then these Tamrons are not for you. Regarding your comments on the auto-focus, I've not seen that elsewhere.

      Actually they have a 24 but it's an APSC lens which I forget so they only have the 1.4 GM which is I did review

      @@learningcameras Yes, and it's useless on full frame. Then it work like 35 and you get 10 mp pictures on an A7iii. It is even more expensiv than FE 35 f/1.8. I have an a6500 and the E 24 f/1.8 is the last lens I want.

      @@TVe200 Yeah, you wouldn't want the 24 1.8. I completely forgot it was apsc and I have no idea why an APSC lens like that costs $1000

    these lenses are really bad,
    Sony owns a lot of the company tamron
    i think sony pushed tamron to not release better lenses than their sony primes.
    Tamron could EASILY do F1.4 with the fast motors they use in the 70-180 or 28-75 lenses
    infact they have allready a superb 35mm f1.4 for Canon

    A complete miss by Tamron. Most likely its complete control by Sony.

    These lenses are so crappy, promoting them should be considered to be missleading. General problem are the distortion level en the semi inline focus. The phrase 'for this low price' should translate in don't buy at all. If you looking for low cost you would beter look for Samyang or Viltrox lenses that outperform this Tamron crap on all planes.

      I actually showed off the distortion and focus issues so not sure what would be misleading about that

      @@learningcameras yeah I mean this is gonna be my first lens purchase after having the 55-210mm cropped lens for the a7ii. I feel like tamron didn’t want to say “for beginners” but this is gonna be a huge step up. Also they’ve come down in price to $199 so I’m stoked that I just bought one
