    I have both the 24 and the 35mm tamrons on a sony a7r ii. I love both of them, although the 35 gets most of the usage. Excellent sharpness, good colors, and nice flair resistance.
    My favorite is the1:2 macro, which I use every day. It would be hard to switch to another lens, for example the new 35mm f2 sigma and give that up.
    Ocassionally I miss not having a wider aperature for the bokeh. However, for me, having the macro is more important. Exceptional lenses, and afffordable!
    The weakness of the 35mm, is slow focus in low contrast or low light. the 24mm focuses faster. the weakness of the 24mm is the distortion, although still usable. a manual focus switch would be nice. in the future, I plan on either the 17-28mm tamron or the 14-24 sigma, and the 70-180 f2.8 tamron. I also have the viltox 85mm f1.8, a wonderful lens.

    I'd actually love to see the Zeiss version and the Samyang lens in there aswell. Majorly suprised about the shown Sony 35 1.4 - I don't remember the lens itself looking like that from the outside (especially the red ring on the bottom), but I might be wrong.
    Edit: Just realized the red ring indicates a old Sony A mount lens. Of this is actually the lens they used, then this whole comparison is seriously not saying that much.

      It is showing that native lenses aren't always the best choice.

    Before this Tamaron there was the Samyang, so I got one. No regrets. I thought the Sony and Sigma 35 were just to large for that focal length. 35 is usually a run and gun, so it should be compact.

    The Sony/Zeiss 35mm f2.8 would do well in this comparison. That lens is crazy small and light weight and a good performer

    • @socratesvela8285
      @socratesvela8285 4 года назад +1

      True, but at over twice the cost of the Tamaron; will not be worth it. Tamaron delivers, just like a Samyang or Rokinon.

    • @NickGranville
      @NickGranville 4 года назад +1

      Socrates Vela the Sony Zeiss is available for cheap second hand cause there are lots of them around now. It’s a much better lens than the tamron - the Sony/Zeiss is lighter, sharper and has much better bokeh. As for Samyang there just not in the same league (but useful for those on a tight budget). Anyway, my point was the Sony/Zeiss 35mm f2.8 would be good in this comparison.

    i'm not a fan of how they tested these lenses...the whole point of buying the sigma 35mm 1.2 is to shoot it using a wider aperture. I would much rather have some more real-life examples for testing such as for portraiture or low light photography.

    You measured barrel distortion and sharpens, but nothing else. How about Bokeh - circular aperture, repeatable manual focus accuracy, autofocus accuracy, AF speed, AF tracking/continues AF speed and accuracy and how silent the lens is (audible noise generated from aperture and AF acquisition). All these qualities matter as much as sharpness - if not more depending on what you're shooting.

      @@TheSlantedLens thanks! There's no such review or I don't know about that. Tamron 35mm 1.4 is incredible for the price and I couldn't find anything like that for Sony so I use it with MC-11. There's Zeiss 35mm 1.4 which is very pricey and some copies have sharpness issues and there are Sigmas which are huge and have poor light transmission.

      I think the Sony 35mm F1.8 is a more direct comparison to the Tamron 35mm F2.8. Both are the newest 35mm for E- mount on the market. And they weight Similar. For the people who are interested in the Tamron, they very likely look for something budget friendly lens, Not the Zeiss F1.4

      The closer the subject is to the camera the more apparent it is. So the images of the sign are further away and the difference is not as noticeable.

    • @TheSlantedLens

      Generally speaking zooms are not as sharp as fixed focal length.

    • @jml7916
      @jml7916 3 года назад

      The zoom is much larger, heavier, more expensive and not as sharp. My wife and I often take the tamron 35 and Sony 50 f1.8 out on our cameras and each carry 1 other small prime lens. Often the 85 f1.8 and an old Tamron 28 manual focus or some other interesting adapted lens (90mm macro or Pentax 50mm M). We both prefer the much lighter setup and all together that collection was cheaper than a Single Tamron zoom and sometimes faster. All bought used (except the Tamron 35) on 2nd hand A7ii bodies.
