- In todays video we are helping out my realtor Phil with his 2002 Honda CR-V. He needs a new Curt trailer hitch installed, but he also has a check engine light on for misfires on cylinder 2, 3, and 4. I smoked the engine to further diagnose the misfires and found a BUNCH of vacuum leaks. Join me as we get this Honda tuned up, diagnose and repair the cause of the misfire, and fit it with a sweet new trailer hitch. Hope you enjoy!

These are speed density engines so vacuum leaks don’t affect them in the same way as having a MAF sensor. Random cold start misfires on Hondas are typically valve clearance problem or blown head gasket. I typically look at my MAP reading at idle. Anything over 1 volt indicates some type of mechanical issue. I was an Acura dealer tech for 12 years. I love your videos, you have a great personality for RUclips.
thanks for the knowledge! wasnt sure where to go with misfires across the board, also couldnt find the MAF as well. makes since its got a MAP sensor like my old Jeep. I guess valve clearance will be a good next place to go if the misfires come back. Phil said its been running like a dream since the vacuum leak repairs so maybe it made some difference. Fingers crossed! appreciate your kind words!!!
Great video Alec. Love that Ventus smoke machine - even bought one for myself. Handy to have to check to make sure everything is connected properly after doing engine work.
Hey rob! pumped to hear that! autoline is pumped to see your comment too. Its a great tool and super handy, theyve done a great job innovating the smoke machine game.
Cool install and great mechanical skills. Looking forward to the next BMW episode project. Julio
Thanks Julio! appreciate the support
@@DayOffDIY hope you are feeling better! Take care.
Was surprised to see a K series I didn't know that gen had it. Also baking soda will work as super glue hardener.
Same here
ahh good to know Lt! ill have to try that. Seems like a solid engine, ive done a bit of work on it but it keeps on going and runs strong
try row52 people will go junkyard hopping for you to find parts. you can find one locally or out of state
ill have to give that a try sometime!
Excellent job. Tho definitely check oil before running.
good point! no oil light so i figured it couldnt be toooo low
70 lb tourqe, one handed on a creeper.....i'd be spinnin around look'n like a fool..hahahahaha
lol it was at the limit of my abilities! hahaha
Aren't you supposed to check tyre pressures when they are cold, not after a road test? Also, why was there oil in the intake? Does that mean the MAF sensor is covered in oil now?
tire pressure will increase by 4 psi from cold to hot, so as long as you keep that in mind its all good. For the oil, i believe it was coming from the PCV hose from the Valve cover to the air box. Could be from worn out valve train or the recirculated engine pressure not getting filtered correctly before re entering the intake stream. This engine is also consuming a little bit of oil. This engine has a manifold absolute pressure sensor instead of a MAF so no concern of an oil soaked MAF sensor
You dont even know how to use the ventus properly😂😂😂. Push the button twice so you can check with the leak meter if the leak was fixed or not 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ 🤦♂️
About glueing plastic stuff, look up the superglue and baking soda trick. Been using it for years, most of the time it works wonders. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that you need the runny superglue and not the gel type.
im going to look that up! had another viewer mention baking soda :) thanks for the comment
I tend to cut pieces of paper towel or blue shop towel with superglue. Cut it, place it and then the paper will soak up the superglue and form a great patch!
@@falklan Going to try that one day. Seems like a good way to get it covered. Roughen up the surface below it a bit could also help.
Your realtor better be thankful he has a mechanic like you to help with your knowledge! Great job Alec.
thanks johnny! hes a good man and has been supportive of the shop!
Hey, just wanted to ask if you would know how to rethread a stripped bolt on a BMW E46 Sedan power steering feed line that connects to the pump?
i havent done that before, its a pretty large size banjo bolt... youre going to need a HUGE drill and heli coil set if you did do it, id just replace the power steering pump instead, cant be too expensive
@@DayOffDIY update... there was nothing stripped. it's just the new feed line I got had too many thread but it holds
AHH this reminds me of my TSX that was just totaled. I Loved that car. More Honda content would be awesome!
ahh bummer to hear that ryan! ill keep you in mind for future honda content dude
rather than just super glue get an old soldering iron and plastic weld it
not a bad idea! luckily this epoxy did a great job
@@DayOffDIY if it breaks again try plastic welding i use to super glue and epoxy plastic parts but plastic welding works the best for me
ill have to try that!
Great video. So easy to use that metal box.
its the best!
thanks for the comment :)
Dude, that was a great video, really enjoyed it. It will be cool to see the follow up video when it comes back to you....
im glad you enjoyed! figured i might as well throw it up there even if its not everyones cup of tea. ill be sure to get an update for ya when it comes back around
Man I miss my Crv, making me want to get another one
never had much experience with Honda but they seem quite bullet proof
Nice have the same engine in my element, k24 think it is
seems like a solid engine!
Alec, your mechanical skills and you mustache are all fantastic!
thank you mitchell! appreciate that my friend
@@DayOffDIY You bet, Alec
Alec, seriously watching you do the work on this Honda without safety glasses is a no-no got to be safe if you want to continue working on the BMWs
I know i gotta be better, your comment made me slap on some safety glasses during my last E30 video so thank you for that.
