    Whoop whoop!!! Been waiting for a sick upload!
    1:31:00 - I’d suggest getting a digital display of the coolant temperature on the speedo.
    Hold down the left button until it shows test, let go and press nineteen times until you see the number 19, then let go for a second until 19.0 is displayed then press seven times until 0.7 is displayed. This is when you’ll get a digital readout of the coolant temperature.
    The M54 thermostats tend to open at 97°C.

    I just discovered your channel and I'm loving it so far! I've been a BMW owner for 19 years now and an e46 owner for almost 14 years. I love how informative and honest you are. My dad ran his own auto repair shop for almost 30 years. Between my non-mechanical brain and my dad's impatience with teaching, it's disappointing I never learned car repair from him. I would save so much money on labor at shops! Your friend is getting a great deal since most shops charge double if not triple what you charge for labor plus markup on parts. That job would easily cost $5000 anywhere else. Thanks for putting out educational and informative content. We need more honest and straightforward people/auto techs like you in the world. ❤

    definitely watching this again when I go to do my rebuild, absolute perfect knowledge and some great tips for leaks! one thing to consider but not necessary is the oil pump nut wire tie fix, best to do when doing anything oil pan related, but the permanent fix would be to upgrade the oil pump shaft and the nut at the same time so it doesnt shear or vibrate loose, oh and fcp ftw best parts

    • @bogusienombre355
      @bogusienombre355 4 месяца назад +1

      Great tip! Was wondering..
      Where to purchase shaft and nut? Which oil pump, L30 or L20? Thank you in advance.

    • @Downy1230
      @Downy1230 4 месяца назад

      @@bogusienombre355 oh the l30 or l20 is the power steering pump model, and it's dependent on the hard lines you already have in your car, no real difference between them power wise/feel but I think the shaft is stronger on the l30 but again that depends on what you already have as those lines would be specific to the pump. As for the oil pump, If money and time isn't a problem, then the gsr four bolt oil pump shaft and rotor is the best upgrade, paired with a new harmonic balancer on the crankshaft, as the old one will be fatigued, and an upgrade for that would be the ati super damper as well. If cheap is the option, get the Achilles shaft upgrade since that uses a better design and you would have to manually change out the oil pump rotor and press it out and onto the Achilles shaft, that would give it the strength to prevent snapping but also solves the backing out of the oil pump nut. Overall it's a bit of a process but you'd save 400-500 compared to the gsr pump but I personally would spend the money and get the fully assembled pump from gsr with their upgraded shaft and slap in a new harmonic balancer while you're in there, less risk of failure with oil pump not sending oil effectively imo

    • @bogusienombre355
      @bogusienombre355 4 месяца назад +1

      @Downy1230 thanks! Ati?ATI? Gsr? I'm not sure what that is. Super damper, is that inside pump? Do you have links or product #'s, brand names. I feel it might take me too long of time to find products. Sorry, this is not familiar to me as you know. Thank you again very much.

    DSC/Traction Control Lights. Might need the Solder fix done on the ABS Unit. You can remove it and send off for repair. The Solder connections weaken over time from heat cycles. After the car warms up heat will weaken the solder and cause the trifecta. Traction control, Brake and ABS warning lights.

    No need tap or brake bushings.

    Hey Alec, in the early model E46s theres a round connector under the bonnet in the “drug stash” nicknamed the Pac-Man connector. For my car I have to jump pins 2-17-20 in this connector to get ISTA to communicate. So a wire from pin 2 to pin 17, and then a wire from pin 17 to pin 20.
    By default only the ECU is wired to the OBD plug inside the car, but jumping these pins allows all modules to communicate to the OBD connector.
    I think this might be the case with the car in the video because I see it also has the early model tubular brace under the engine like mine instead of the aluminium plate.
    You can also get an adapter that plugs into the Pac-Man connector and has an OBD output but 2 little wires to jump the pins is simple enough 😆 there are diagrams etc online if you search for “E46 packman pin jump”.

    • @ReeseSS01

      Oh and the upper front strut mounts are mushroomed quite badly on that car as well (also like mine lol). If left alone the tower will actually rip apart eventually.
      I had to hammer mine back flat, buy reinforcement plates and some new strut top mounts. BMW revised the design of the top mounts because the early ones would deform with the strut tower. The newer ones are designed differently to help prevent them deforming.

    Really wanna pick one of these things up as my third car, I feel I could get it to brand new status mechanically and daily it for years to my job and always have a grin on my face. Unfortunately can’t convince wife on the extra costs. I have a 2003 z4 with the M54B30 and 6 speed manual and can’t find myself parting ways with it

      A Z4 with the M54 is also a wonderful car! I love how much room the engine bay has for that chassis. So much easier to work on!

    INPA might not work because you have to bridge 2 connections on the cable. Have you looked in to that?

    After spending countless weeks diagnosing my P171 and P174 lean codes and checking for vacuum leaks and I changed the oil separator kit yet the code kept still coming back after the vacuum leaks were fixed. It ended up being a faulty mass airflow sensor….

      A lot of em do, hopefully this video will help you tackle your own! You can do “just” the bushings pretty easy with a pry bar, 16mm socket, and a hammer

    $6,000.00? Is that ALL? I spent that the first month of owning my 2008 335i e92… in total, it’s about $17,000.00. Three times what the car is worth!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Love FCP❤️💯👍🏽

    Hey. I'm looking at getting an E46 Wagon that I saw on Facebook. There are multiple codes that deal with the connecters from the engine wiring harness (P0117, P0102, P0197, P1351). From your experience is this a case of a bad engine wiring harness, wrong battery (Has H7, 94R), or a new Alternator?

      For this particular vehicle, Erik loves the car, and wants to clean her up to keep as a reliable daily driver. In comparison to a newer used car, I think he’s makin the right call. If you love it, why sell it

      One must drive it to know you love it. It's a great peppy engine with a nice exhaust note and great handling with grippy tires.
