      @D.Ambrose 12 дней назад +1

      I mean I hate to say it but it is pretty obvious that RUclips is no longer going to be allowed to cater their algorithm so hard. They’re trying to make some prudent changes pending the incoming administration.
      I’m not complaining, it’s been SO MUCH easier to find good, high detail, quality mechanical and technical videos recently.

      My GF had a really clapped out E39 523i once. Rust everywhere, Exhaust fell off, Suspension was loose...
      But that M52B25TÜ ran smooth as cas be every single day 👍🏻 even though it had 240.000km on it.

The 3 dials, retro gaming style (i really liked the use of TF2/Half Life music, its fits really well!), and the informations about engines are great. Be sure to continue with this style. It would be cool to see engines in other Bmws maybe.. idk e36 (even though e36 is very similar to e46), or maybe some Mercedeses (idk.. w124 maybe) but whatever. Id like to say, for anyone lookng to buy an e46, go for the 328i version.
    Simply because the M52TUB28 has better oil control rings around the pistons. The M52 uses much less oil than the M54 does. And while you wont get the power of the M54B30 engine, you can still just swap the headers for catless ones, get the ZHP camshafts and get a proper tune, and you should see power increase from the 192 HP to somewhere around 240.

My N42B20A e46 wagon was a fiery little beast that wanted to rev and loved but but worst engine to own. M47 and M57 are brilliant but M47 are underappreciated. Great video. A bit of inaccuracies here and there, like how the M52TU would be somewhere in the middle between M52 and M54, but those are things that only people really into these engines would know. M52 it's actually much closer to M54 than to M52. To be honest, BMW should have called the M52TU - > M54 and the M54 -> M54TU; it would have been much closer to reality. Blocks and heads are absolutely the same on the M52TU and M54, headers and intake designs are identical (the intake is just larger or smaller), ECUs are very similar, sensors are the same or similar etc. etc. Essentially, you can convert easily an M52TU to be an M54 or viceversa, but you cannot convert an M52 easily to an M52TU. Some stuff is outright impossible.

    M52TU the goat.

  • @kaneCVR
    @kaneCVR 12 дней назад

    - 170hp N46 engine has a different cam (more lift, slightly longer duration) vs the 150hp version. The intake also differs slightly. You cannot just "upgrade" the DME form a e46 N46 with the one of an e90 - the E90 uses a different immobilizer and the wiring harness is different.
    - the 2.5L M52TU (323i) uses the exact same engine block as the M54 325i (same part number) - blocks that have very little in common with the M52. In fact the 1998-2000 M52TUB25 and 2000-2004 M54B25 share the exact same block and crank. The differences are pistons, rods, intake cam, piston rings, intake manifold, DISA and throttle body (M54 is drive by wire).

    • @BabaJansGarage
      @BabaJansGarage  9 дней назад

      I completely forgot about the 170hp version of the N46! The DME upgrade is more of a theoretical upgrade than one that you can actually do. It’s fully possible, but completely over complicated, I just added it as from what I’ve researched, there are VERY few power increasing modifications available for the N4X series of engines. As for the M52TU and M54 similarities, I did miss the block connection between the 2.5 liter variants.

    Very good idea for the video, but I would ask for more distinguishing between TU and non TU engines. The M43TU is very different from the non TU M43, as is the M52TU from the M52.
    Before I delved deep into these engines, I would not get how different they are, and that the Technical Update (technisch uberarbeitet) is indeed a major change.

      @BabaJansGarage  9 дней назад +1

      Thanks! Yep, it means potential, as in tuning potential to make more power than it does stock. It’s based on both the engines ability to push more power than it did originally as well as the availability of components you can fit to it to boost power (turbos, remaps, bolt ons etc.)

    What you are showing at 11:40 is not the M52 engine, nor is it the M52TU engine. It is an M50 non-vanos engine, from my knowledge it could have come out of an e34.
    You can easily distinguish an M50 and M52 by looking at the oil filler cap.
    It is near the back of the engine, close to the firewall in the M50,
    near the front of the car in the M52 and M52TU.

      Yep, I noticed only after uploading the video. I thought it was a m52 with a spray painted valve cover 😅

      For the M52TU and M43, they do. The other engines were exclusively for the E46/E39 series onward. The E36 engines video is already in the works though, so stay tuned :D

    I know its a stretch but... You should have added the P60B40 from the M3 GTR, its the most iconic engine in the most iconic E46 (mainly because of Need for Speed: Most Wanted)

    M54B22 is engine with worse fuel consumption as ownership proves than M52 and also higher oil consumption but both engines are still rlly good and reliable and still fun even with 400 000km driven

    Hey i loves your video i am from Europe and This is really comon car.Only 1 thing M54 has Maybe the biggest potencial out of all engine.On turbo it can live 500hp completely stock.

      The M54 and M52 are really close in pretty much all areas, but the M52 does have a slight edge as I’ve seen more custom made turbo/supercharger kits specifically for it than the M54. Both are amazing engines though, so whichever you get will still be great to drive :)

      M57 would also easily take over 500hp

    You made some mistakes on the m47 1. The 1951cm³ version is equipped with a bosch vp44 not with commonrail and was build in the 320d up to 2001(facelift) and in the 318d up to 2003.

      Slightly beating myself up over this too, I knew that as I was making the video, completely forgot to add it in though!
