      We’ve used it maybe 5 times total. Rubber tube is cracked and falling apart. Heater element is now broken. This thing normally sits around on its own shelf and the rate of deterioration is intense. Are there spare parts??

    I’m totally buying one in a few days. Just started a fix and flip car business. Never would have even gotten into this stuff without this channel. Had a 07 Sebring stuck in limp mode. Code was p0765 (UD Solenoid Circuit), eventually the trans solenoid pack was replaced by the previous owner but the code never went away. They took the car to 2 different transmission specialists in town, and they said the car is totaled, needs a new wiring harness or transmission. I bought the car for $500 and was able to test everything except the pcm. Turns out a new PCM fixed the car, but still trying to figure out how to detect it with a test light. PCM would go into limp mode immediately after resetting the codes.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  Год назад +2

      testing the solenoid with a testlight would be done in three stages. first- at the solenoid itself. you would replace solenoid with test light at the connector and you would have seen that when the solenoid should activate, you have no voltage at the solenoid to light the test light. You then would use the light to make determination on if the power or the ground is missing (or both). Finally, you then would go to the PCM and tap into the pin for the solenoid control (most likely it is ground side controlled so you would have testlight on power and then touch to PCM ground side control) and you would see when solenoid is activated there is no transistor activity to light the test light . this would confirm the PCM was the problem. if however you saw the testlight did indeed light, you know you have a wiring issue to the solenoid.

    If I'd found this channel a few weeks ago, I'd be pretty stoked about the low-cost smoke machine, but it turned out that I needed one earlier and built an improved version of the "plumbing parts" model found a few places on RUclips. I used a Li-Ion battery-powered aquarium pump to provide the mobile low pressure air source, and I bought a flow meter off of Amazon, to provide the feature I find most useful on the commercial "Pro" versions. Mine isn't completely wireless, as I still have to connect to the vehicle battery for the heating filament, but I don't need to bring an air compressor.
    While I'm not in the market for another smoke machine, I could make good use of many of the accessories they have available.

    When adding smoke through the snorkel, how does the smoke get past the closed throttle plate and into the intake manifold, especially on a drive by wire car?

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  Год назад +1

      yeah great question. on either a cable or DBW throttle there will always be a little gap that smoke can get through when it’s closed - it doesn’t totally seal. the 1PSI pressure is way more than enough to get past it. as a matter of fact if you do it the other way around and smoke the intake from a vacuum like, you will need to seal the throttle body or smoke will go right past it and you won’t find your leak!
