    You have to do
    A diesel heater fitting episode
A solar panel and charge control install
If you want to get involved Chris could put in a lithium battery and make it 240v internal off grid through an inverter
    Change all lights to leds
Change the fridge to a compressor
This will increase your followers van life and motor home conversions is massive at moment
If you make it completely off grid it adds thousands to value.
And before you think it’s going to cost the earth a diesel heater is from £80 a solar panel kit with everything is from £150 the led lights say £150 for all of them, lithium from £500 inverter from £200 solar compressor fridge £700 for a direct replacement for what’s fitted.

That's a Mk1 Boxer, and I've had one as a camper for 27 years so know a fair bit about them. Mine was a 2.0 petrol (rather than a 2.5TDi) although I did convert mine to 2.0HDi a decade back. Observations:
First, the bonnet grill (with that style of Peugeot badge on it) is from a Mk1 facelift so I suspect that's new post-collision.
Second, Mk1 Boxers suffered from water ingress into the gearbox. Essentially there's a drain from the heater plenum which, in the first units, dumped water straight onto the top of the gearbox. Best is to fit the later drain hose which directs water below the level of the gearbox. Also drain and refill the gearbox oil, checking for signs of water. Your van with an over-cab bed will not have had the regular deluge down the windscreen that, say, a panel van conversion gets, but it's worth checking all the same. At Mk2 (2002 - 2006) the configuration was much improved but water ingress wasn't completely eliminated. Note that Mk1s also suffered from rain water contamination of the vehicle battery if the cell vents were uppermost. Less of an issue with the more modern batteries but wet battery tops are seldom a good idea.
The Electrolux fridges are three way - 12V/240Vac/gas - but, with age, the burner corrodes blocking the gas jet. Also the flue sheds corrosion which then falls onto the burner making it difficult to light. Best is to draw out the fridge and take a peek, or remove the lower of the exterior grills. Bear in mind that, officially, you need to be 'gas-safe' qualified to work on these fridges.
Terminology-wise it isn't 'black water'. Instead, sink waste is generally referred to as 'grey' whereas that from the toilet is. not surprisingly, 'brown water'!
The Carver water heater heats up 4 - 5 litres of water in its reservoir so don't expect instant heat or lashings of water for a long shower. There's a drain plug on the lower left outside which is prone to leaking.
One of the strip lights - the one which didn't work - is probably 240Vac for use when on mains hook-up. That said I couldn't see the blue three pin IEC 16A socket on the outside of the van, but I'm sure it will be there somewhere.
Check for wear/failure of strut top bearings. In the early vans these were not so robust: another improvement at Mk2.
I'd flush the brake fluid: mine was contaminated from new and I had all manner of issues: BMC failure, brake compensator valve failure etc.
    Good luck!

Nice video lads. Don’t carpet the interior. I used to work for a camper conversion company, we used to do the floor wood effect 5 mm thick Lino. It makes for easier cleaning. The new owner can always puts narrow rug runner in if needed.

We got her for 4k only one other owner .All she needed was a new gearbox which I found on ebay for £80 . Every time we go anywhere we get call a classic which cracks us up. Can't wait to see what you do with this one 😃

There should be a pressure sensor in the water system so the pump only runs when you open a tap and pressure drops. If the pump keeps running, there's maybe a little issue there.
Same age and base vehicle as our Autosleepers Van :-)

Blimey - you're brave driving an unknown 27-ish year old motorhome round London on a bank holiday evening without it breaking down. If the seller as a locksmith it's a shame he didn't fix those locks. Don't tell Chris but there's a penny in the sink in the wash cubicle. Shame we didn't see under the bonnet - I guess we'll see in the next video. If those are the original clear cushion covers it hasn't had much use.

Very very nice. Terrific buy Rob. Can I suggest it might be worth keeping for family use and then retain it as a rental item...could be a nice little earner.
The lino is there for the kids muddy feet, etc. Whilst carpet would be a super upgrade it would not appeal to everyone. So for me I'm voting against carpet.

You need to put that polystyrene jacket back around the hot water heater - that tank will get dangerously hot to the touch when the heater is on otherwise. Also the pump should stop running when the tap is off - there will be a pressure switch somewhere in the water piping near the fresh water tank that needs adjusting.

    Hello chaps
Great work. I have a similar style motorhome. I changed the carpet to lino only for cleaning because when you go away it's a lot easier to clean.
To detail the motorhome part used a mild compound Maguires 300, comes up a treat.
For the water underneath the sink should be filter that would be worth changing.
    Many Regards
    Peter

  • @ched999uk
    @ched999uk 2 года назад +3

When it was dark and you where waking round all I could see was your teeth :-) . Grey water is washing/showering. Black is toilet which in your motor home is the cassette. The water heaters usually have a 240v element when you are on hook up and gas when no 240v available - it will take 30mins or more to heat up though. Carpets are usually removable and have bound (whipped) edges as people with pets don't want muddy paw prints on carpet, so if you get carpet make it removable. Looking forward to seeing it after the clean and tidy up - I bet it will be in big demand - might be worth getting damp test, gas and electrical safety tests done just to be safe.

I've got a motorhome the same year, very similar inside,It will clean up perfect, It's charm is it's age.
I cleaned the back half up on mine with cream cleaner,Ciff once I washed off all the grime.
    It works,comes up shiny again.
To brighten up the lighting inside I brought LED strip lights off eBay,Under£10,fitted the lighting under the pelmet below the top cupboards. It looks great in mine at night.
Looking forward to you getting this one finished..
I hope my comments help you get this motorhome all shiny again.

I’m sure there will be patterns for the carpet for the make and model. Get a set made up that are removable and makes it more cozy. Couple of years ago we bought our first touring caravan and absolutely love it. Few new bits and bobs to bring her up to date - taps, usb lights, a good clean and some nick-naks to make it homely. Puriclean is the one recommended for water systems as won’t damage the delicate water heater. Also clean and flush the toilet cassette and get some nice smelling chemical. Good buy Rob, you look almost as excited as when you bought the Lambo 😀

Nice little project. Just a tip from my experience, take the battery out and check the wheel arch to bulkhead area. Very prone to rust... Amd with the cold water tank, undo the red cap and look in the bottom. Some of them have a little plug on a chain that allows you to drain the tank. Also near the water tank there will be a screw valve that you need to play with to stop the pump from constantly running. Loads of youtube videos on setting the pressure.

Sorry guys but not being rude as I've been a motorhomes for over 30 years but, there is no such thing as brown water, it's classed as grey water and that depicts sink or shower waste. Black waste is the toilet and you won't find many British or European vans with a black water outlet as you have the cassette instead. Black water is relative to American R V's that have a hose to attach to the outlet and discharge into a waste point on sites.or manhole where available.
Keep up the good work lads. Really enjoy your videos which give me a great sense of satisfaction seeing you keep all these old girls on the road for others pleasure. Well done guys

Check it's got the right tyres on it, loads of people put ordinary commercial tyres on these things because they don't know any better. Should have proper motorhome tyres that can handle the rated tyre pressures which can be over 70psi on this style motorhome, they effectively run at, or close to, their maximum weight pretty much all the time.

What a great buy! Carpet is great looking, however, lino cleans up easier from wet muddy boots, spills, etc. We've had our 'van for 15 odd years now, it came with lino and it's been fine. Looking forward to seeing how this cleans up

Yea of course a bit of carpet in there will make it much more cosy. That lino doesn’t look the part at all and it will be colder on your feet. That is a good buy it will be lovely once it’s cleaned up can’t wait to hear the numbers on it once it’s finished.

Don't use carpet it quickly goes shabby. Use good quality sheet or plank vinyl such as Karndean it's worth the extra cost for that small area. For comfort have a couple of whipped edge rugs.

With regards to the idea of putting carpeting down; personally, I would put rugs down as they are easier to take out and clean. A fixed carpet can get wet and dirty really quickly, so putting rugs down instead would make cleaning so much easier. Just an idea......

  • @yvindHvaal

The grin on both your faces at the end was priceless! A good clean up will do fine. Don't carpet the floors, they get dirty beyond cleening in a day. A set of new tyres may be needed, they must be old. Cambelt with accesories on the to do list and a oil and filter service. Nice one, Rob.

  • @ctiley2212

Carpet may be fine for adults but in a camper van where you don't have access to major cleaning tools like vacuum cleaners etc.. These vehicles tend to be used where people go on walks, down the beach and such like, which causes mud and sand to be dragged into the vehicle therefore I reckon lino or tiles are vastly more practical, especially if there are kids involved.

Nifty little purchase there for sure well done. With the saving you've made I'd look at getting some of the shaped mat sets motorhomes and caravans have now instead of one continuous carpet. Or pick up a cheap off cut and see if you can get someone to make them. You'll probably be able to buy something from the manufacturer but I doubt it will be cheap. The mats give the warmth and comfort (there was probably some originally) but are easier to clean and sections can be replaced from those inevitable spills and mud rather than replacing a whole carpet. Speaking from experience of years of caravan and campervan owning with kids and dogs!

Hi rob when you fire up the cooker don’t lower the glass screen over the top as it sometimes cracks the glass due to the heat. Nice van try getting a butane gas bottle the blue one. The blue ones work well in the summer and the orange bottles are propane and work well in the winter if being used in a tent but as the bottle is in the van you could get away with a blue bottle they have a new regulator as the blue ones have been changed. I agree rob a light coloured carpet would brighten up the van. work a treat.

    Score! Replace:
    - all the interior lights with LEDs as it would give it a nice bright modern look.
    - replace lanolin with modern design - carpeting is a “no”
    - redo the old cushion covers
    - assume your doing all the mechanicals / consumables
PS - this rig was a great buy!
