  • I had a total hysterectomy laparoscopic (LAVH) with the Da Vinci Method on April 11th 2016. I had my uterus, both fallopian tubes, left ovary and cervix removed.
    I had this performed in hopes of easing my chronic pain condition PCS or Pelvic Congestion Syndrome.

    Blair I saw your video about how family friends and people don't understand how painful everyday a hysterectomy can be. I am a 67-year-old woman I had a total radical laparoscopic robotic hysterectomy because of uterus cancer. It has been 2 weeks for me only I have had to do everything for myself with the exception of one friend that would take me to the grocery store I've had to do everything in my home alone and my daughter lives right next door and says it's just a hysterectomy my sisters said 2 days after I got out of hospital it's a breeze it's not a breeze I feel like I'm dying from pain on a daily basis just struggling everyday so thank you for posting what you did about friends and family they don't know until they go through this kind of pain God bless you thank you for your videos

    Loving your videos and honest expressions of your recovery process!
    I am week 4 post hysterectomy and it is so helpful to see that I am “not alone” in my slow feeling of healing! I see you posted this 6 years ago! Very cool that it is still helping people like me and I hope you are doing great now!

    Thanks for sharing, I thought I was going crazy. I only have my ovaries, so everything is gone. I am so scared of the first time we are intimate. I had the same conversations with my husband. I actually escaped the house with out my driving buddy, I needed a break. Being a chef and extremely busy being in the house has me climbing the walls. Thank God for treadmill it's really helping to take the edge off.

      M.G. Barr I am four weeks post op too, only have ovaries left. I too am afraid to be intimate. The worst is being stuck in the house and getting cabin fever. I also went for a drive without my buddy too 🤣🤣 this has been a very isolating experience for me. Low mood at times, crying a bit too.... for no reason. Pain in uterus.... but no uterus there! A lot of adjustments to deal with. I love these videos, they help me so much 🙂

    Thank you SO MUCH for your candid honesty about such a "taboo' subject!! I realize that this video is two years past but it doesn't matter in the slightest; your experience & journey is just as relevant as always. So thank you!!! 😊

    Thank you for being open from the beginning and talking openly about your experience. I am a single mom almost 18 years since my youngest was born. Your husband knows what he wants and will stand by you through times of thick and thin. Don't worry! 💕

    I absolutely understand the emotional feelings! I actually underwent them several years ago when I was forced to have my tubes tied by both my doctor and my husband. This was after the birth of our fourth child. It would have been risky to have had another child because of the previous pregnancies and childbirths. At any rate, I didn't want the surgery, but had it because they insisted on it for my health. I literally cried myself into a stupor as I was going into the the surgery that day. I went through a dark period where I felt so unfeminine. I can't even explain but eventually, I began to notice that my husband seemed to be more attracted to me. I don't know if it was because I was no longer fertile or if it had just been the down time from recovery! He was very doting and caring. For a generally very UN-romantic man, he was being SUPER romantic. My feelings began to fade. When I was having so many of the issues I was having that led to the getting the hysterectomy (I have a new doctor now.) He stated his only hesitation would be how I would deal with the loss of the organs. When I explained I had dealt with that when I had my tubes tied, he agreed to do the surgery because I was having so many health issues again. I say ALL that to say, if there is anything I can help any one of you talk through since I know just how it felt and what I did to get through it, please don't hesitate to message me! (First.last@gmail.com) Hoping all of you are recovering well! Physically and emotionally!!!

    Being a female is defined biologically in your chromosomes, not your uterus or whether or not you have one. A male is still a male even without their reproductive organs, why wouldn't a female still be a female? Your sexual identification also resides in your mind or psychology so as long as you identify as a female and psychologically feel like a female you are a female. Please do not feel any doubts in regards to that.

    hi I'm also having some of these thoughts and feeling like life is really unfair I'm currently recovering from total hysterectomy and I'm 23 years old I had to have it as a life saving operation after losing too much blood from giving birth to my son. I'm dealing with the not feeling feminine and never being able to have any more kids my heart is broken my spirit is crushed .. have you been able to get past those feelings? I could really use the encouragement

    I'm 51 and I'm 2 weeks post-op from my hysterectomy and I feel EXACTLY like you regarding not feeling sexy now that I don't have a uterus anymore. Emotionally I feel that I am no longer complete and a woman without a uterus. I see younger girls in bikini and all I can look at is their belly where THEY still have their uterus (at least I assume so) and I say to myself that they are women and I'm not. Aaaaagggh I know that I will be fine and I will feel womanly again. But until then may God give patience and strength.

      Elisa in Montreal they say that after the ovaries decreases in hormone production which leads to depression crash like this. Prayers and hugs

      Hello Heather, thank you for the information provided. Thankfully the surgeon did not remove my ovaries as they were intact. She only "scraped" one ovary that had some cystic tissue. I believe that my "depression" is more emotional and "end of the road" kinda feeling. Like getting older. Being able to do less and less regardless of how active one is. All sorts of stuff that for ME, a hyper active person with energy good for 4 women, is a bit scary. I don't mind the wrinkles and the gray hair and the flabby skin. I mind the "not being physically capable" as much as when I was younger, invincible and immortal. Does this make sense to you?

      Hi Blair, I am very happy that you answered my comment. I am doing goodish. Except that after one hour of sitting I need to sleep for 2 hours!! I have not left the house nor walked more than to the kitchen and bathroom and that is enough for me to exhaust me. I have this weird feeling that I am being pulled from the inside of my abdomen (not stomach, that's fine). I know that besides sewing shut the vaginal cuff the surgeon also added support by attaching the ligaments that once held the uterus in place. I assume that it's that attachment that as it's healing it "pulls" and therefore I feel that pull at the abdomen sight (???). I have my appointment on March 3rd for my 5 weeks check up at which time I will ask why this pulling sensation. Right now I cannot find anything on the internet regarding this. Am I missing something?

    Hello I am 51 I just had my hysterectomy 2 week ago and boy I am telling you recovery is being really difficult for me, and I'm sure a lot of you too, it's probably going through the same thing I'm going through now, am I supposed to have this pain for how long, I don't have family or friends I'm pretty much alone and I told her related to the previous video that you posted when you first got your surgery, I have my family member telling me you need to get up walk and started doing normal things but it's so difficult for me because I can cope with this burning pain that I'm having in my abdominals, I can barely get off my bed alone I need to ask for help my 11 years old to push me off the bed.

    Hi Blair! I was just wondering how you are doing now since your hysterectomy. I am a fellow hystersister and also have pcs. I am nearly 2 years PO, and having hormonal imbalance issues more and more as time goes by. Anyways...I would love to hear how you are now, if your pcs was resolved, your feelings on having the hysterectomy etc etc. Hope all is going well! :)

    • @LoseitwithBlair
      @LoseitwithBlair  7 лет назад

      Hey lady! So I'm currently just over a year post hysterectomy.....and many fellow PCS ladies told me to really wait 18 months to see how my body is doing since our bodies take longer to heal post surgery PLUS with all the blood and vein issues in that area for us.
      I would say that there is improvement though some other issues that have not resolved. Once I have gotten past my 18 month mark I feel like I will be better able to share if I feel the surgery was a true success for me personally.
      I am sorry your having some issues still 2 years down the line.....did you have both ovaries removed?

    • @kariquick5148
      @kariquick5148 7 лет назад

      Hi Blair! Good to catch up on how things are going for you. I kept both ovaries. I am happy to say that my physical pain has pretty much been resolved due to the hyster. And it did indeed take me a year and a half to recover! At the one year mark, I was discouraged because I was still having pain but things thankfully got better with that aspect. My issues now are with mood (mostly depression) and weight gain, despite working out 5-6 times a week. Still trying to get those figured out.

    I just had a hysterectomy and it was by far the worst surgery I've had because I also had to have an emergency colostomy surgery and wearing an ostomy temporarily which will require a reversal surgery at some point, they had to take out everything for my hysterectomy due to several large fibroids, lots of scar tissue and endometriosis and am still recovering lots of soreness, anyway did tour incision and stitches feel tight and sore?
